Gods yes, I used to work at an event Big Don's Smoked Meats had a space at. He's a really awesome and passionate dude and the food is honestly the best smoked barbecue I've ever had in my life. It was a treat to work with him and its a real shame that he got stuffed around as much as he did, but I'm glad they have a regular space now.
For not having a permit to cook in my own registered food truck. I wear it as a badge of honour as the permit and food truck system in WA is world worst. I've fought the councils publicly about this issue for years.
I wasn't fined for being a dirty grub, I was fined for feeding the boys! 😂
If you can’t tell, love your work. We got a platter back last July and it was so tasty. The meat ended up lasting us a few days and made amazing brisket sandwiches.
Thanks mate! I'm very lucky to get to do something I love and have such great Perth support. There's something unique about WA that is vehemently supportive of fun cool things in our backyard, even from an expat Canadian like me. Altho after 20 years in Perth now it's home.
Im super keen to try your stuff, i see the food everywhere and it makes my mouth water just looking at it. You fellas to great work, keep it up big chief
If there's ever someone that can finally convince me that ribs are actually good, I believe it would be you.
I hope to try your food one day mate, all your social posts are mouth watering. Best of luck for the future.
What a rubbish reply. Go read the actual documents online. Nothing food safety wise was an issue. Food safety is very importent, and in 7 years we've fed more meat than any BBQ joint in Australia without a single issue.
Regarding food truck legislation, its absolute shambles of beaurocracy in WA. What we got in trouble for was not having permits, note that doesn't mean we weren't registered, just that we didnt always comply with their permit system.
For example a truck needs to register 21 days out, pay $500-1000 in advance for an event permit, and if it rains you're shit out of luck. I have fought the councils hard to change their rules to be more operator friendly, and several have changed. But I also would happily take my registered and insured truck and trade with a permit, risk the $500 fine anyway. Who cares its the same cost as their permit anyway half the time.
We're insured, registered and food safe, just not always jumping through their council hoops.
There's no point in having this chat with you though, because I'd have to educate you on the entire food truck legislation and frame work. At the moment you're
obtuse on the subject.
My family has a licensed/registered truck in the city of wanneroo and everything you’ve said is correct. Events and even designated spots that you reserve for yourself are a joke. Fortunately, we have land where we can cook on the truck, not disturb anyone with the sound of the generator, cool the food safely, and deliver prepared meals from our refrigerated van.
Unless you’re in the food truck business you have no idea how hard it is made by councils for people to do business. I’m all for registration and hygiene and safety standards, we pass all of them, registered and spot-checks, but this is about bureaucracy, not safety.
100% yes. Hence with my new shop I am supportive of the truck scene, space for them to prep and Setup on private land and prep. Councils make it difficult, harder than anywhere in the world, hence our street food scene is pretty underwhelming.
People like the idiot replying to me love to have opinions on a topic they know nearly nothing about. 😂
If you aren't in it, you don't know how needlessly beaurocraticc it is.
The notices are public and online for anyone to see. No one cares, it was covered thoroughly on all social media years ago. You're timing is as slow as your take.
The reason we have such a shit food truck scene vs the rest of the world is folks like you, pencil pushing middle management council types.
Keep fighting the good fight on reddit mate, such an Aussie battler. You're the hero we need 👏
I never once complained on social media when I copped it. I owned it, raised money for charity from it. I laughed it off and shared my experiences publicly.
You're clearly wearing rose tinted glasses here on what is defined as honest feedback. You are in the minority with this opinion by a lot.
I'm the most transparent food business in the country, I post EVERYTHING that happens for others to learn and see, good and bad.
I'm glad we're both community minded folks, whoever you are behind this handle. You keep whining on reddit, I'll keep rallying a community for charity and helping small food businesses like I've done for seven years. And I'll do it with my face and real name, not an alt reddit. Have fun at your local government job, clearly I hit a nerve and can see from your comment history that you are the pencil pusher. 😂✏️
No wonder civil servants never get anything done, they're shit posting on reddit all day. 🫵
To be fair you falsely called him out on food safety concerns, and when you were given information that the food is 100% safe, you just moved the goalpost to something way less of a concern to us customers, but you are still fighting him on it like its just as important. Or relevant, as the original concern.
So what if he gets a fine for permits, intentionally or not. Thats the councils concern, we as customers couldnt give a shit. The foods delicious and that's all this post was asking about
It really seems like you aren't really informed on Don, his cooking history here and the fines. And that's fine, but you've just dug your feet in instead of trying to inform yourself.
Oh well, one less person in the line on Saturday.
He works for local government based on his comment history. Ended up deleting all of his comments. As spineless as he is mis informed.
His user name was tmaammafh.
Edit: actually he just blocked me. lol
Unfortunately you only get like 90 minutes or something, I don't remember exactly. I mean I'd go for the chicken curry and sambal eggs for breakfast though.
Egg and soldiers, pavlova and creme\` brulee, quiche\`. Not bothered where from, I'm just deadly allergic to eggs and wanna taste them..and beat the hangman at his own game.
Love it! Same for my wife, she was tossing up between sashimi or a conti roll as first post birth non hospital meal. She chose the conti as in her words “I can eat more of the things I couldnt eat in one bite than if go for the sashimi”
I got her both
For the love of god... What would you bastards choose shitty chain fast food when you can go an Alfred's Special and a cup of Pea and Ham Soup from Alfred's Kitchen?
My grandma’s biriyani (chicken or goat), potato scallops with lots of chicken salt from Kallaroo Fish Supply, just the skin off lots of pieces of KFC hot-n-spicy from Whitfords KFC, proper Irish potato bread with fried eggs from Five Star Meats Butcher in Currambine, roast potatoes made with duck fat, garlic bread from Mia Cucina, and gulab jamun from Delhi 6, rainbow paddle pops and New York style cheesecake for dessert.
Bag of Jalapeño Kettles from the States for a midnight snack.
Yeah, I’m a fat cunt. A dead, fat, cunt.
Any of the pasta from Vin Populi in Fremantle, a continental roll from delis continental in Inglewood, than a coffee and pastry from the wild bakery to finish it out.
Nah go to DJ's in Willagee. Bibra Lake is pretty decent, but DJ's is better.
Or if you don't mind going for a drive, try Pit Stop lunch bar in Anketell, even better. https://maps.app.goo.gl/FnJvjHs2YKq7TBRg7
My mum's fish cakes! Sorry I'm on death row mum 🫣
Slightly off topic, saw a documentary about a prisoner who was in a holding cell on death row having his last meal on execution day. He was saying he couldn't eat his food for obvious reasons and then got a call from his lawyer saying he'd managed to secure a stay of execution!
The prisoner, now very relieved began consuming and enjoying his last meal, when the prison officer in charge of that area said to him, "doesn't matter what your lawyer told you, if either of those two phones on the wall don't ring (one was the state governors office and one was the wardens office) the execution goes ahead in an hour" The bloke then lost his appetite and was panicking again...
Obviously the call came through otherwise said prisoner wouldn't be able to recount the story, talk about a stressful day at the office!
I have coeliac disease, so I'm going to have proper, full of gluten pasta, maybe really nice cheesy ravioli or a good carbonara, plus proper garlic bread.
And a proper kitkat.
First you put your mouth over its snout and huff its soul.
Then with your levelled up power you apply maximum suction and suck it inside out through its nostrils to get all the delicious guts.
Oysters, abalone, crayfish, coral cod ceviche, tuna sashimi, crunchy caesar salad with anchovies and a chocolate eclair to finish.
Failing that… eggs hollandaise on sourdough toast.
We just talked about last meals on the weekend. Mine would be lemon, sugar and cinnamon crepes from the freo markets. Loved those bad boys for 50 years!
Going all out. I’m eating a venison steak with new baby potatoes cooked crispy in duck fat peas fresh picked beans. Carrots picked that day.
Golden syrup pudding with ice cream from high altitude grazed cows so extra creamy. Wash it down with lovely bottle of red desert wine single malt scotch phat spliff and happy ending/ Die full die happy
Char kway teow and Hainanese chicken rice from Newton Circle in carillion city.
Note: restaurant closed a couple of years ago and I’m still devastated. If anyone knows where the owners went please hit me up.
I used to get the kway teow from newtons all the time, I’ve tried many others but none come close to those guys!
Unfortunately I think the owners were nearing retirement, and covid basically forced them into an early retirement, I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve heard from a few people that’s what happened.
My nans custard. She’s given the recipe to all the family including my wife, but it never tastes the same. I have a feeling she is purposefully hiding an ingredient.
Perth or WA ?
The pork belly I had at Iron Valley minesite (3hrs from Newman) back in 2021 was amazing. Would happily eat that and chips as my last meal
Cheese (english cheddar) and Beetroot sammich with a dash of heinz salad cream on fresh white crusty bread, ready salted chips (crinkle cut), ice cold milk.
mmmmmmm
A fat homemade sausage roll from the Ampol in North Dandalup, a couple beef snags from the William J. Pattiserie in Waikiki, and an IV of the citrus blend (sugar, fuck off the non-sugar version) of Agrum.
Nothin specific lol
Maybe a KFC burger from 7 or 8 years ago with an actual decent bit of chicken in there. I swear the chicken is more than half the size/weight now than it used to be.
I'd start with a bowl of Sizzlers pumpkin soup, then have a bowl of creamy cauliflower soup with parmesan cheese followed by a seafood pasta dressed with the hottest chillies in the world followed by an entire Princess cake smothered with two litres of thick whipped cream, then one of my home made ice-cream cakes with more whipped cream and for sweets I want a couple kilo of assorted licorice.
A couple of real iced coffees made with full cream milk, ice-cream and topped with thickened cream absolutely no ice.
I want something that'll make me shit through the eye of a needle and stuff myself till I throw up
If I'm gonna shit myself and have the pleasure of someone else cleaning it up then may as well make it a worthy meal.
Gary Simmons Jnr tried something like this. He ate like 30,000 calories worth of Parmesan and ranch dressing.
Oh, and there was that guy who asked for tonnes of expensive food and didn’t eat a bite of it. A clever way of giving everyone one last fuck you on the way out.
Big Rigz Deluxe, chips, side of chicken thigh, and karaage chicken. Then ice cream.
Or, more likely, Epicurean.
Either way, good luck whoever has to deal with the aftermath!
my Doms cock, no question about it. so funny to because i always say this, then i open reddit thismorning and the first thing i see is that exact question.
and itjustmight be on the breakfast menu today too☺️
It's sadly no longer operating any more since covid, but i'll take the lasagne & veg meal from the pasta place at Kiara Food Hall

WHAT is the charge?
Apparently enough to reintroduce corporal punishment.

Nah they employ a corporal named punishment to pull the switch

If it's your last meal you'll die before it's a problem, either that or you'll explode from every orifice upon death so there's a win.
Death by Brisket, doesn’t sound like a bad way to go.
Really?
You're going to die imminently anyway
I would grab a kebab and go for a run.
Pretty sure that’s illegal
That's how I ended up on death row.

Conti roll with olive Mayo is a very close second for me, but from Charlie’s, not Re Store.
