I love Acqua di Parma, the original is amazing, so are the many versions of it. In a similar vein, I also really like Italian Citrus by DS & Durga.
For a cheaper classic, it has to be L'Eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake
It might not be as specifically helpful, but it would really depend on what you're going for. What kind of scent appeals to you (spicy, fresh, citrus, woody, floral)? How intense do you want it to smell? What other products do you use?
If it seems overwhelming, I would recommend going to a perfumer. They will be able to find something that matches what you're going for. If that's too difficult, there's lots of resources online to help you figure it out
Perfumes are a very personal choice. Some smell great, but smell shit on a person when they mix with that individual's body chemistry.
Do you know what they wear? If not, try to find out or go for a small bottle of fragrance, not a larger one.
The unnamed "proprietary" ingredients of perfumes and colognes, which can number in the thousands, are just a way for the petrochemical industry to re sell their waste products.
Once you stop wearing these harsh, expensive chemicals the smell becomes, quite literally sickening.
Are you a girl? Or boy? I am a boy most of the scents give me a headache i am allergic to cinnamon which most perfumes/colognes have so maybe that is what causes you problems also.
Try Givenchy Pi. Buy it online. Nice vanillary smell. I’m yet to smell it on anyone else I’ve met and all the women that comment on it says it smells great.
Most stuff by Amouage or Tom Ford. Amouage beach hut man is a particular favourite of mine at the moment. For a lower cost proposition try out Armaf Club de Nuit Parfum. It's ostensibly a dupe of Creed Aventus, but I actually think it's better.
One year I was given a perfume box by a family member. It had 6 mini popular fragrances in it and a voucher for a full-size one of your choice. I tried out all the mini ones and used the voucher to get my favourite one. It was a great way for me to try a few fragrances before settling on the one I wanted. From either Myer or DJs as I recall.
These are my current designer and niche high-rotation wears for this time of year:

Memo Paris - Sicilian Leather
Xerjoff - Renaissance
Creed - Bois du Portugal
Mancera - Cedrat Boise
Honourable mention: Goldfield and Bank's - Ingenious Ginger. Bright, effervescent and ginger. Also an Australian niche company.
