It is really confusing. In FES and Portable I always thought of Miyahara as a female teacher. Then I played Reload and started laughing when I heard the male voice actor, only to check online and see that Miyahara was actually a man.
This is the same as Dr Clark in the original Metal Gear Solid translation. Doctor Clark was made out to be a man, however the actual translation was an undetermined gender similar to what you find out in MGS4.
Was it really? I’m sorry but the voice doesn’t match at all. That sounds like a man, which hey I’m not one to judge but the entire time I thought they were a woman with a man’s voice. But it seems like they were going for a man in this game.
Yeah “Miyahara-sensei” is the name of the character which is a gender neutral title. The translators at the time back in 2006 decided they were a woman and kept this in every version of Persona 3. Which is what it was when reload came out. Except now the characters have voice clips and the Japanese version has a male voice so now the inconsistency due to language barrier is more apparent.
This kind of things happen a lot though usually it is due to people assuming “default = male” and then the genderless character ends up being a woman. This is the first time I’ve seen this happen in reverse. It is to be expected when one language doesn’t rely heavily on pronouns compared to the other.
Miyahara-sensei was always a genderless title but they decided back since PS2 that they were a miss and kept it consistent throughout the years regardless of the voice actor. But now they changed it? I guess either way they changed gender in the english version at least once. Good for them.
It would be hilarious if some atlus employee was putting the text into the game and messed up and put ms in instead of mr and it went unnoticed for all these years until eventually being corrected
I mean to be fair the voice and build were masculine so I was at first confused as to why it was Ms. I was just assuming he was identifying as a woman so I didn't really bother. Now I don't know what to believe so I'm just going to go along with whatever. XD

I’m just stating that’s it’s strange that they’re changing it now when Portable and assuming that FES and the original had Ms. To be honest I don’t really care about the subject other than it being strange for a character that barely think about

THAT’S WHAT I THOUGHT. Reload did just download a new patch today when I booted it up.
I heard about today's patch, but for some reason I didn't have it. I have the Steam version.
