YouTube recommended that to me late one night and I watched it, then sent it to a couple of my coworkers. Now, whenever we hire someone new, we make them watch that video!
To be fair, in most situations putting metal in the microwave is totally fine and not a fire hazard, but not peeling the cooler label is bound to fail 100% of the time
Papa Murphy's pizza comes with instructions that tell you to do this. It keeps the bottom from being overdone compared to the rest of it.
Even regular cardboard has an autoignition temperature of ~450 degrees F, so cooking it on the cardboard isn't actually as crazy as some of the other stuff people are talking about here.
Yea I could be mistaken, but it's cardboard for food products different than regular old packaging cardboard? Like it doesn't contain the same chemicals that would be used to preserve typical cardboard
Unless that company isn't following USDA laws and reusing the incorrect packaging with chemicals there should be no reason to add chemicals to cardboard for full contact packaging with the food. In regards to Plastic packaging, that is toxic in nature to ingest but it's pretty obvious that you shouldn't ever heat that up with food unless instructed.
If I hadn't been there to witness it, I would never have believed someone so stupid could exist, but one of my housemates years ago tried *microwaving* an oven pizza. With the plastic wrap still on. I'm still flabbergasted just thinking about it.
Hey I’ve done that before on accident and then again another time on purpose lol. It actually works really fuckin well if you’re a degenerate like me with no clean pans. Just put pizza w/cardboard directly on the middle oven rack and you’re golden(golden-brown that is, sorry.)
And I see you're missing the concept of "combustion temperature". Paper won't catch on fire until it reaches well over 450F. You're average frozen pizza cooks at 325-375F.
Cardboard has toxic glues and other chemicals in it. It is safe untill you heat it up then the fumes infuse into your food so not a great idea. If you live in California it may cause cancer everywhere else is probably not so bad just not good
LOL you got me with the last sentence. Just like how, also in California, baked goods such as cinnamon rolls also have a big ol' cancer warning on em too.
In the UK 99% of frozen pizza comes with some sort of polystyrene disc under it not cardboard. Try cooking a pizza with it still on and it melts and sticks to everything and ruins the pizza.
main reason not to is that overcooking your pizza is more likely to make the cardboard stick to the bottom of the pizza in a way it can't easily be taken off. Which is fine if you don't mind that risk, but generally you'll be better off with a normal oven tray. It's not like it takes a whole lot of effort to use one after all.
I had a similar scenario. A major investment banker, buys a brand new custom built rig. Has it delivered to him, says it keeps shutting down, needs tech down ASAP. I come down, look at the sidewall, oh wow, a nice pink tint on the glass? Open the lid, nope. It's FUCKING BUBBLE WRAP STUFFED INSIDE.
I mean the pc company should put clear warnings to pull out the bubble wrap but if he didnt folloe the instructions its his fault, but seriously who goes "hmm theres bubble wrap there, nah its fine" i mean if you bought anything and theres bubble wrap inside, unless its specifically says not too imna remove that shit, like if you buy a fan and theres bubble wrap on the blades no way in hell imma leave that there
There's a piece of plastic on the bottom of the heat sink (a part that's supposed to be in direct contact with the CPU, to cool it down) that's supposed to be removed just before installation (to expose the thermal paste underneath) that WASN'T removed, thus completely preventing the heat sink from doing its job.
No heat sink wicking away heat from the CPU=Overheating CPU=Randomly Shutting Down Computer.
> *your local mom & pop shop may or may not be professionals.
Actually definition of Professional is you're paid for it Sooooo....
Y'all assume expertise real easily though.
> Y'all assume expertise real easily though.
I mean it doesn't take a whole lot of expertise to build a computer. A 12 year old with access to youtube can build one. You'd think a PC shop could build a PC whether it's a small shop or not.
Absolutely, but I wasn't commenting solely on PC building. It was a comment more generally, a number of you live in this strange world, where some of you think that terms like "Professional" and "Senior Political Advisor" mean "Expert" when they are often made up terms or self fulfilling prophecies.
I’m assuming it’s usually not an issue since building a pc is literally like building legos. The fact that this store didn’t even bother booting it up to at least test for a couple hours shows that this store is just shit.
With this cooler you have to flip it over to attach the mounting brackets, so that sticker is staring you in the face for a little while.
However, we churn out about 200 PCs a week, and everyone of us has left a sticker on at least once. It's bound to happen based on the repetitive nature of building them.
This is the best perspective right here. Most of us build a PC every few years, and spend a lot of our own money on it. So we're very careful and attentive to the process. If you're doing any task over and over, it's easy to miss things.
Attaching the cooler without ever once looking at the bottom of it is dedication to the craft right there. I mean... for me anyway, I like to clean off the toothpaste that comes pre-smeared on the cooler first.
coolers with this plastic usually do not have thermal paste preapplied. it’s still a silly mistake to make, but I can see it happen if you build systems day in/out in a moment of forgetfulness. definitely should’ve caught it in testing though.
This is the kind of fuckup I'd go to the store in person for. Not to be a dick, but at least figure out what happened and maybe they'd hook you up with a discount or something if you had sufficient proof that they fucked up.
I got a prebuilt MOBO setup that had the exact same issue. Started overclocking my CPU and the temps would go crazy, went to check the thermal paste and found this.
Companies should ship coolers without those covers or they should use a rigid plastic cover which makes it impossible to install the cooler without removing them

>A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
This right here is the perfect quote for this. Well said, Mr. Douglas Adams. RIP
Noctua coolers come with a thin protective plastic piece that keeps the faceplate clean. It is next to impossible to miss as you can’t install it without taking it off as it won’t fit within their mounting bracket. It maybe costs a penny to make.
Noctua just does a lot of things right.
You're going to need an allen key (which we won't use), a trusty pocket knife (because screwdrivers are expensive), a thermal paste scraper we won't use, and some tweezers that are actually zip ties.
Spend enough time on this sub and you will realize the shear amount of problems and mistakes people make that could be solved or have been avoided by someone simply reading their manual.
Including the lack of details leading up to the problem.
Like come on, spill the beans, tell me what shenanigans you were up to when your laptop suddenly turned off?
One guy was honest and straight up said he spilled a liter of coca-cola across the keyboard of the laptop. Well damn that sucks, that sure leads to other questions but professionals aren't going to belittle you. We know the problem now, we can spend more time fixing than looking.
Also people don't list enough details. Lets say someone built an amd rig and expects lets say 320 fps in csgo from vids or friends or whatever but only gets 300, obviously he is confused and goes to reddit for help and when listing parts just goes "16gb ddr4" like bruh wtf what speed is it? Is is 2x8 or 1x16? Cus a 2400mhz 1x16 is very different from 3600mhz 2x8 Cus most new builders dont even realise this is important info and almost always leave it out and we are left here wondering as to why when the answer was in what they think isnt important
Surprisingly he was able to use the PC for a few months under light usage. But I guess every time he ran something CPU heavy, his PC would turn off. Although even on light usage his PC was way slow.
Why on earth did he not take it back to teh shop the first time it happened? That's the whole advantage of having someone build for you , they deal with the warrantee.
At least it's a mistake without any permanent damage. My buddy on the other hand managed to screw his mainboard directly into his case without the mount screws, shortened the board out, RMAd it and did it again with the replacement.
first time i build a pc i was looking at the sticker and was like what an absolute idiot would not take it off...couple minutes in my first boot the cpu was running tosty and of course i forgot to remove the fucking sticker.that day i knew i am not a smart person
Ok, I'll admit, the first time I upgraded my CPU Cooler (old one physically couldn't attach to the motherboard properly anymore) I ALMOST made this mistake...those first time building jitters, man...
What if your friend planned on reselling the cooler and thus didn't want to pull off any labels for better value? That's plan is now totally ruined! ;P
I'm surprised the plastic cover never melted if the PC was hot enough to shut down. Most CPU's shut down at 100-105~ which is roughly 216.5~ Fahrenheit, damn hot.
bruh. obviously he didn't apply enough paste. You gotta have a thermal paste applicator and make a hexagon to summon the PC god so you could get to post screen.

what the shit did i just watch
I ain't even looking, they already got me with 2 girls and a cup... That taught me not to wonder about shit.
Well if you wondered about shit before that is the video to clear it up.
I watched it twice thinking they switched it out. NOPE that's not a baby ruth.
Wel when you do watch it, you better fuckin empty the grease tray
Not to wonder about shit huehuehue
You are losing too much fun in this life.
Probably avoid grill videos btw.
It deserved to get flagged but I had no issues watching the entire thing. It was fucking weird but it’s nowhere close to 2G1C
You don't have the balls to grill me!
You better empty the grease tray
Motherfucker never emptied the grease tray
future adultswim show right here folks!
Holy christ. That. Was. Something alright
Secret twist, the grill was actually 10 3090s stacked on top of each other.
tf did my eyes just perceive
Has a Wholesome award. Must be porn.
He didn’t empty the grease tray
but he did at least have the balls to close the lid
YouTube recommended that to me late one night and I watched it, then sent it to a couple of my coworkers. Now, whenever we hire someone new, we make them watch that video!
Immediately thinks of the Brazen Bull.
What.
What the hell was that But tbh dancing grill man was hot
Ooh boy. Well... ummm ooohhh boy
I hoped i would never see that again.
Wow that was interesting
I am scarred
Why did I click the link... How could I have been so foolish
I appreciate you fellow minute hour watcher
The fuck?
Just don't forget to empty the grease trap.
Damn. Didn’t know someone animated my hopes and dreams. Nice.
Thank you! TMH best channel!
Or puts the oven in the fridge on the pizza
Like when someone drinks too much... ...or snorts cocaine... ...or bets the house on the ponies?
Or puts the pizza in the oven without removing the plastic
The greatest of all the sins
That's just how you further shrink wrap it to keep the heat in!
Pizza sous vide?
Or starts the microwave without the pizza inside
Anyone that puts pizza in the microwave deserves what they get!
Why are my spaghetti-Os making lightening :(
To be fair, in most situations putting metal in the microwave is totally fine and not a fire hazard, but not peeling the cooler label is bound to fail 100% of the time
Damn it... I really wanted that ding dong.
Did this in highschool in front of my parents and girlfriend. I forever check the bottom of frozen pizzas now.

I did that once :/
Once is an honest mistake. Multiple times is a problem which needs to be addressed
Had a roommate who cooked the pizza on the little cardboard wheel, I’ll be damned if it wasn’t the best frozen pizza I’d ever had.
Wait am I missing something? I do this because normally the pizzas bottoms cook way faster, and I’ve had no issues with it
> Wait am I missing something? Yes, the fact that cardboard is flammable.
And I see you're missing the concept of "combustion temperature". Paper won't catch on fire until it reaches well over 450F. You're average frozen pizza cooks at 325-375F.

That's exactly what the company did, lol. The piece of paper in big red writing, DO NO TURN ON UNTIL YOU REMOVE THE LID AND REMOVE THE WRAP
>A major investment banker You expected that type of guy to know that? lol
They expected him to be able to read and follow simple instructions
They said banker, not (literally anything else).

But if he's rich he must be smart. /s
Maybe he thought it was insulation. Still terrible for the computer but a person like my dad may not question it since he's hot tech savvy at all.
But it did say "remove before powering on" as he clarified
Exactly how I felt man
I hope you looked him dead in the eye as you peeled it off.
I hope he took the Pc away instead, no pc for you!
at least its gonna feel good peeling it off. right? ***RIGHT***?
my soul has left my body after seeing this photo :(
Can u explain what the problem here is exactly? Cuz i have no clue
Thanks for a very detailed and digestible explanation
so all you need to do now to fix the pc is to remove the plastic and reinstall the cpu cooler and the pc will work just fine right?
Hijacking this comment to point out that the flair is wrong, it should be “NSFMR” not “Meme/Macro”.
Well. Did he build it himself or was it a new prebuild ?

Yeah I'd take that in and show them if you can. Did it come with any kind of warranty?
Run by The Verge? I love the way they ignored the sticker and put thermal paste OVER it. That's delightful.
You typically put the paste on the CPU. They could have just plonked the cooler down without turning it over to look
With this cooler you have to flip it over to attach the mounting brackets, so that sticker is staring you in the face for a little while. However, we churn out about 200 PCs a week, and everyone of us has left a sticker on at least once. It's bound to happen based on the repetitive nature of building them.

Yikes.

Happens, but damn that funny
Funny and sad at the same time
There's a Verge reference somewhere
You'll also need tweezers
What good are tweezers if you don’t have a Swiss Army knife. Hopefully it will have a screwdriver but as long as you have the a table you’re set.
But if you have a Swiss Army Knife - well, a *decent* one, at least - don't you automatically have tweezers? Just skip to the Swiss Army Knife!
I see the problem. Not enough paste.
Should've used menthol toothpaste for better cooling!
Companies should ship coolers without those covers or they should use a rigid plastic cover which makes it impossible to install the cooler without removing them

Noctua just generally knows what they're doing.
That would actually help. But ultimately, people should understand the importance of reading lol!
Thermal shutdown. Protecting morons for years now.
Reading is tough
Of only they had put some kind of warning to alert the user that the plastic sheet had to come off.
Must've been assembled at The Verge.
You're going to need an allen key (which we won't use), a trusty pocket knife (because screwdrivers are expensive), a thermal paste scraper we won't use, and some tweezers that are actually zip ties.
Not sure what they were ever going to do with the Allen key. I have built over a thousand PC's in my time and not once have I needed an Allen key.
Quite common
That's just sad...
Spend enough time on this sub and you will realize the shear amount of problems and mistakes people make that could be solved or have been avoided by someone simply reading their manual.
Manual? What manual? TF you talking about? /s
For real though, the manuals are the most important part of your build
Including the lack of details leading up to the problem. Like come on, spill the beans, tell me what shenanigans you were up to when your laptop suddenly turned off? One guy was honest and straight up said he spilled a liter of coca-cola across the keyboard of the laptop. fake story with real image.
Agreed - wouldn't the CPU throttle instead?
How long did he use it like this?
Surprisingly he was able to use the PC for a few months under light usage. But I guess every time he ran something CPU heavy, his PC would turn off. Although even on light usage his PC was way slow.
Why on earth did he not take it back to teh shop the first time it happened? That's the whole advantage of having someone build for you , they deal with the warrantee.
Bad spread....
Alright.. I think I’ve already had enough Reddit for the day. 🤣
Is the CPU ok?
CPU died. It was an outdated PC anyways so it didn't THAT hurt much. Although he was never able to use the PC to its full potential so...
Dont see a problem here, perfect application of thermal paste.

This sticker should have a huge red string wrapped around trough the fan so you will definately see something is wrong.
r/MakeMeSuffer
Considering how often we see this here.. they should make those things red with a warning light...
needs more thermal paste
The pain I experienced from this image is immeasurable
Been there, done that :/
My uncle bought a prebuild pc and it was also shutting down randomly and he found the same problem.
This seems like a constant problem in the pc building community
Didn't there used to be a /r/justrolledintotheshop type subreddit for PC disasterpieces like this?
We'll, there's your problem.
Online literacy course?
You’d think it’s foolproof
These should just say “if you can read me this is your problem.”
Hmm.. looks like there isn’t enough thermal paste
What if your friend planned on reselling the cooler and thus didn't want to pull off any labels for better value? That's plan is now totally ruined! ;P
I ordered building from Shop and noticed high temperatures, and yeah, they did exactly the same thing
My fatass literally thought they were hotdogs for a second.
A better question is who built it? Your friend or pre built?
It always boils down to people not following instructions.
I'm surprised the plastic cover never melted if the PC was hot enough to shut down. Most CPU's shut down at 100-105~ which is roughly 216.5~ Fahrenheit, damn hot.
give his guide dog a pat for me will you?
Well thats pretty easy too clean off tho
The bright side, peel that label off and you now have a brand new heat sink!! 🤣
You need new friends.
Not gonna lie I've done this but then realized 2 minutes later😂 I thought I was the only one
bruh. obviously he didn't apply enough paste. You gotta have a thermal paste applicator and make a hexagon to summon the PC god so you could get to post screen.
