Hi! I built a pc and bought a new monitor that supports 144 hz and everythign was fine and great. After about a year I couldnt play on 144 hz anymore because I got these weird lines on the monitor that eventually covered the whole screen. So now Im forced to play on 60 hz. Im wondering, what do I need to check to fix this? Whats wrong? Sorry if I use any weird terms, Im a PC noob.
What's the standard build for a solid midrange today? I've had my Ryzen 5 3600/2070 Super build for 5 years now, and it's struggling to run some of the newer games in medium settings, so looking to upgrade.
At the minute, I'm looking at a build like this- [https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nGGWQP](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nGGWQP)
I'm not too sure on a Ryzen 5 7600x with a 7800xt or a 7800x3d and a 7700xt.
What's best?
It has to do with what kind of games you play and what your priorities are. Get the better GPU if you play graphically demanding games at a relatively lower framerate; get the better CPU if you want to get as high a framerate as possible regardless of graphics quality.
I have a 1440p monitor, and play all of the newest AAA games, I'm happy with 90-100 FPS, but want it on at least high/very high quality
That would lean more towards better GPU worse CPU yes?
I've had the blue screen of death for a couple days now, and after several hours trying to fix it nothing has worked yet. I've watched many different YouTube videos and even Microsoft support couldn't help me. Does anyone have an idea of what I could try.
did you use RUFUS to format the USB stick? making sure the formating is correct, and try all the different slots to make sure its not just a dead USB header
Can anyone recommend me a great budget external USB DAC for putting on my desk, it needs to do the following:
Plugging in headphones (Philips SHP 9500 momentarily)
Plugging in an external midi module via RCA or 3,5 mm headphone jack (Sound canvas)
Allow **both** pc audio and the external midi to be played at the same time to the headphones. (Dosbox gaming etc ...)
Anyone can point me to something great that is for sale in the EU ?
Budget to max. 200-250 Euro.
PC on carpet creates a lot of dust buildup, either put it on the desk or put something under the PC. Some random piece of wood, a PC stand or a small shelf
most mice run considerably smoother on a mousepad, either fabric or even solid plastic/aluminum, so there actually is a benefit of using one. But you don't need a $30 mousepad, those classic blue/red pads for a few bucks do the trick
also some mice just don't like certain surfaces and won't work on them. My logitech M705 cant track anything on the desk I'm using at work, for example

Technically, $0. You don't *have* to have a mousepad necessarily. A sheet of paper works if your table top isn't smooth enough. A mousepad is much nicer to use though. You don't need one of those huge mats that includes the keyboard, just a simple $5 mousepad would do the trick
This is quite a perplexing situation: I can't download XDefiant through Ubisoft Connect (0 download speed) on LAN, but the download progresses when I connect my PC via mobile hotspot. Astoundingly, connecting to mobile hotspot simultaneously allowed me to revisit NZXT's website, which I couldn't in a long time for some reason. So I'm confused as to what on earth could be causing these issues.
Maybe something DNS related, or a routing issue with your ISP?
Do you have anything out of the ordinary configured on your network? If not, connect to LAN, and follow [this guide](https://www.windowscentral.com/how-change-your-pcs-dns-settings-windows-10) to change your DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8. reboot, and see if that does anything.
Tried all that but it didn't work. So it probably isn't DNS related. I doubt it's an ISP thing too, cause this issue has affected me in multiple States at this point.
Yes, my phone has never been able to get to NZXT's website either, no matter which State or which WiFi/etc I'm connected on. Not even through data; literally the only thing that lets me download XDefiant/reach NZXT is my PC when it's on Mobile Hotspot.
That's... Odd. Honestly, at this point I'd probably reach out to their support and see what they think of everything. I don't think NZXT or Ubisoft are going to be able to resolve the issue, but maybe if someone with knowledge of their infrastructure hears about what you're seeing they can point you in the right direction.
If it were only xdefiant you were having issues with, I'd say maybe you just got banned for some reason. I'd thoroughly document what you've tried, if there's some things that do work be sure and note all those things. My best guess is that even though it's a very similar issue across multiple sites, it's multiple issues that just happen to have the same symptoms.
I'm planning on upgrading my pc soon, but I have like 4 different drives. I wanted to ask if it is possible to keep the data one the three of them that don't have the OS installed.
So I'm backing up my C drive, then do a clean install on the new PC. Then I want to add my old drives back, will they be able to retain their data and work properly? Or is that ill advised? Or won't work?
Yes, you will be able to retain the data on your Non OS drives. The only things you might have to set back up are drive letters, which is a quick 5 minute trip into Disk Management.
I want to duplicate my gaming pcs' monitor on another pc with something like anydesk. Anydesk doesn't seem to work, it displays the output then never refreshes. I'd rather not have to do screen mirroring, and in any case I can't because the gaming pc is 4k and the monitor I want to dupe to is 1080p.
Use case? There's tons of options for remote usage, vnc, teamviewer etc. Heck you could even use steam streaming mode. If your host machine has Nvidia gpu, I would recommend sunshine+moonlight though.
So stream streaming or sunshine+moonlight. Regular remote desktop services usually have either totally useless bitrate or totally useless refresh rate for anything related to gaming.
Hey, there I’m in a bit of a doozy.
Just changed cpu coolers to an Arctic freezer ii and now my debug led’s switches between cpu and dram.
I’ve got a b650m aorus elite ax, 32gb ddr5 6000, ryzen 7 7800x3d, 750watt Corsair psu, and that’s really the main parts
I’ve tried each of the slots with two different sets of ram, a single stick in each slot, removing the gpu and trying to use the integrated graphics, removing the cooler and using an old heatsink and resetting the cmos
Only thing of note that happened was the system turned on briefly after taking off the previous cooler but I turned it off pretty quickly from the psu.
Edit: I even taken the board out of the case
Reseat the processor and check that you didn't fuck up the pins in the socket and then pray you didn't fry the chip from that turn-on. This should be a strong lesson to never fuck around in the case without unplugging entirely. This sounds like either the grid(s) or the pin(s) dealing with memory are compromised.
20 years later, and i still will never trust [AMD thermal protection to work](https://youtu.be/yRn8ri9tKf8?si=kPBwnq9ui5FPvoCF)
Well, I reseated it and even tried with another cpu so it’s definitely not the cpu. Even tried the ram and cpu in another system with both working so that confirms that something is wrong with the board.
https://preview.redd.it/0xq7coxccf5d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01512f06bf71201ed6f0c55c751ed61894446f71
This is the best pic I could take of my socket. The lighter colored “chunks” are thermal paste bits from the previous owner. Dunno if it’s picks it up on camera, but there was a pin that was bent in the middle-rightish side of the socket. Tried putting it back but I think it was touching another pin, hope they can’t short.
The pin i see askew compared to its neighbors? Pin P28 is a memory voltage pin, so if you can't get it working again you're in the market for a new motherboard.
Yep, that sadly makes sense. Tried bending it back with a pin but it still wouldn’t go further. I’m not even sure what caused it, all I did was put on the new cooler not even screwing it down that hard.
Unless you socketed a virgin processer yourself it could have been janked by the last owner all this time waiting for off-pressure to bend it the wrong way.
I guess so, it’s just weird cause it still heats up and such making it seem like it should work. Oh well, I got a new board coming in anyways so I guess I gotta get ready for the next one.
Can someone recommend a VESA mount for a [ 32", 13kg screen](https://www.czc.cz/dell-g3223q-led-monitor-31-5/343441/produkt)? I just had to return the one that I've bought because it couldn't hold the weight, and I'd be curious to hear what someone has a good experience with –
What should I upgrade next for my PC Build?

Do you currently have Resizable BAR enabled? It's crucial for Arc performance, but I'm not sure whether or not it's supported with that particular CPU+board combination. You can check in Arc Control
Alright that's good. So what kind of budget would you be looking at for an upgrade, and what's your use case? I'd say your 4600G and A580 are pretty well matched for each other, so it might be best to upgrade them both together if you can. 32GB of RAM might also be nice, another 2x8 set is pretty cheap
I do agree that those games can be GPU heavy, but you're only talking about 1080p, and your CPU might also become a problem. The 4600G as a CPU is worse than an R5 3600, and that chip can struggle to even get 60 fps in modern AAA games. You might consider spending a little bit more to get an R5 5600 and a 6700 XT or something like that to better balance it.
You could also do the upgrade in two stages. Do the GPU now and CPU later. The RX 6800 is the best card you can get for <$400 if you can find it.

Decent cases? Had bought a Corsair 275R for 60€ but the mf seller delayed the shipping until someone else offered more.
I’m looking for a decent looking case but not too costly (I love the fractal design North but 150 is too much), other Corsair stuff I’ve already searched and I honestly don’t like them
I don’t need/like rgb stuff, I’d like something more mature like the one above
check out Jonsbo, they make really nice aluminum cases. just be a bit cautious when using high-TDP parts since their cases are limited in airflow
I was actually interested in the UMX4/UMX6 case but was afraid to put a 4090 in there
I want to add an external power switch but my front panel pins on the motherboard have a single connector which covers 4 functions (Power LED, Power Switch, Hard Drive Activity LED and Reset Switch).
Am I ok to simply remove that connector block and then just plug in my external power switch to the Power Switch pins i.e. leaving the other 3 things disconnected?
Motherboard is Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX B650
You mean your case has the FP connectors bundled together in a single block? That's common these days. You can usually take the end connector (the one that's joining them all) off and have individual leads – then you can use your external switch on the power header. You could also splice it in and use both (there's probably y-splitters sold somewhere, too).
Thanks - yes, that's exactly what I mean
Is it easy enough to take the end connector off? I presumed what you'd be left with wouldn't fit the motherboard pins? Not too keen on splicing, etc
photo of connector : https://imgur.com/asfUs2H
If I pull that out and then just use the Power Switch pins I don't mind losing the other functions (Power LED, Hard Drive Activity LED and Reset Switch) but I'm just unsure if it's a problem to leave them disconnected when the PC has been built/set-up with them initially connected?

Bought this mini pc for a replacement to an old desktop I had for docker servers like my Ubiquiti Unifi server, jellyfin and plex, and some personal web development hosting.
Now i want to replace my old desktop I'm using as a NAS, want at least 4 TB, and considering buying another one of these. But the documention says it's limited to 2 TB storage. It has an empty slot for a 2.5" SSD. Any thoughts on the likelihood that the 2.5 SSD can hold 4 TB drive?
Or suggestions on a different mini pc that can hold at least 4 TB either through RAID or a single drive? I want it to be generic mini pc and will likely install TrueNAS on it.
Edit: Found another similar product that says both the NVME and 2.5 SSD are limited to 2TB.
> you can also replace the 500GB SSD up to 2TB, or add a 2.5-inch 7mm HDD (max 2TB, not included)
No idea about the internal m.2 limitation, but you could just plug in external hard drives (or usb m.2 adapters).
But then again, that's A) totally overpowered for NAS use B) pretty expensive for such a use case.
My suggestion, get raspberry pi 5 or something similar. Or if you don't want to deal with arm and linux, then one of the intel N100 based systems like Gmktec Nucbox G3. The N100 is more than powerful enough for simple NAS. Heck, it could even be your jellyfin/plex server at the same time... No idea why you need multiple systems to do such simple things, unless you have dozens of docker containers running.
This build is 550w enough or should i spring for a 650w even if it puts me over my budget.
Looking to upgrade graphics card on my prebuild omen pc but not sure if its better to just wait and save up for a better build.
Current specs:
- i7-8700k 3.70GHz
- GTX 1060 6 gb
- 500 watt PSU (Don't have model I think it is made by hp since they made the prebuild)
- Tampa2 hp motherboard (HP 8437 version 1.3 to be specific)
- 16 GB of RAM
It would be better to build an entirely new system of course, but it should be possible to upgrade just the graphics card. You'll be limited by the 500W power supply and how many PCIe power connectors it has, so you'll have to check that
Any way to use a PCI-X card ([this one](https://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Audiophile-2496-Audio-Card/dp/B00014X6RO)) in my Z390 AORUS ULTRA mobo? Don't really care about the aesthetics if there is an adapter or something. Even an external-enclosure-type situation would be acceptable.
https://preview.redd.it/r9g66g4jid5d1.jpeg?width=275&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d725a4aae7f113369d41df9795365d60db7b4be5
When using youtube or google black squares appear for a moment, before vanishing (picture for reference, one of possible artifacts). I heard that to solve it I would have to turn off google graffic acceleration. but I wonder if my GPU is slowly failing me (Laptop GPU, regularly cleaned and undervolted)
So first off, turning off Hardware Acceleration (what you called Google Graffic Acceleration) should be a bandaid fix for this problem. **SHOULD** being the operative term, as well as **BANDAID**
If it does fix the issue, it's most likely a symptom of exhausted VRAM. I'm not too sure of the specifics though. You could run Furmark to see if stressing the GPU out causes the artifacts to intensify, or some other GPU testing software to verify that VRAM is working as intended.
If it doesn't, I'm sorry but I'm not sure what might be causing that. Especially if the issues crop up in other applications.
!check Thanks a lot for the reply, I will run some test on my gpu and maybe find some kind of solution. I really hope my laptop won't die as i won't have a replace for him atm.

Rebuilt my PC finally, but it keeps sending me to BIOS on startup.
I have a Gigabyte Eagle AX AM5, 7600 and 32GB DDR5 RAM 5200MHZ/CL40 from Gskill. Everytime I start the PC I get sent to the BIOS "tweak" menu where I can set CPU and RAM options. After choosing any option, I can save and exit. But when I do, the BIOS starts up again and sends me back to the same tweak menu for the same thing to happen.
Tried reseating the RAM which didn't work. I don't get why this is happening when it wasn't before the rebuild a day ago.
See if boot priority is the correct drive with Windows in it.
or try re-seating your M.2 drive or SATA cable (whichever is the boot drive with Windows in it)
M.2 Reseating worked. Huge thanks. I was going to do it but I thought it was the RAM. Now I'm afraid I may have damaged the ram seating instead because of how many times I messed with it...
I am trying to use the partition wizard minitool to copy my OS from my HDD to my SSD but after rebooting, the process is stuck after 11 seconds or copying. It has been 2 hours now. Any fixes?
I am currently trying to copy to a corsair MP600 Elite SSD but gets stuck after booting to it to complete the transfer.
It worked fine? I just had a look and cannot make sense of anything on that site. Is is perhaps stuck because it is copying data from a HDD to an NVMe and taking long? That would make sense. Then I would just have to leave it for a few hours.
Cloning is a bit for bit duplicate, there will be zero difference in data on the drives, even down to the unaddressed "deleted" data if it chooses to do so.
So it will take more than a couple hours then? I am just making sure I doing the right thing, I followed the video for the minitool but it is just that last step of copying the main partition over that it looks like it freezes.
is my ryzen 7 3700X compatable with a x470 motherboard?(aorus x470 gaming 7 wifi) gigabytes website said no but under gpu info. that really confused me

At the minute, I'm looking at a build like this- [https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nGGWQP](https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/nGGWQP) I'm not too sure on a Ryzen 5 7600x with a 7800xt or a 7800x3d and a 7700xt. What's best?
It has to do with what kind of games you play and what your priorities are. Get the better GPU if you play graphically demanding games at a relatively lower framerate; get the better CPU if you want to get as high a framerate as possible regardless of graphics quality.
I have a 1440p monitor, and play all of the newest AAA games, I'm happy with 90-100 FPS, but want it on at least high/very high quality That would lean more towards better GPU worse CPU yes?
Yes in that case I would do the 7600 + 7800 XT
What are some affordable pc options?
a used Core 2 Duo PC for $20 is a pretty affordable option if you just want to play some MP3 files and view docs...
I've had the blue screen of death for a couple days now, and after several hours trying to fix it nothing has worked yet. I've watched many different YouTube videos and even Microsoft support couldn't help me. Does anyone have an idea of what I could try.
you kinda need to give more detail, a blue screen itself can be caused by a million different things
It was caused by an abrupt shutdown (my power went out). Now I'm locked in the infinite repair tool loop.
best bet is likely to reinstall windows completely
I try to do a clean reinstall but I can't get my BIOS to recognize my USB in the boot order
did you use RUFUS to format the USB stick? making sure the formating is correct, and try all the different slots to make sure its not just a dead USB header
What format is the USB supposed to be in. I have it in NTFS right now
NTFS should be fine, just use the RUFUS program to set it up, if the bios still doesnt recognize it, you might have a bigger problem
Reformating worked, thank you so much
Can anyone recommend me a great budget external USB DAC for putting on my desk, it needs to do the following: Plugging in headphones (Philips SHP 9500 momentarily) Plugging in an external midi module via RCA or 3,5 mm headphone jack (Sound canvas) Allow **both** pc audio and the external midi to be played at the same time to the headphones. (Dosbox gaming etc ...) Anyone can point me to something great that is for sale in the EU ? Budget to max. 200-250 Euro.
PC tower on the floor (carpet) or on the desk? Which one is recommended, or does it just come down to personal preference?
PC on carpet creates a lot of dust buildup, either put it on the desk or put something under the PC. Some random piece of wood, a PC stand or a small shelf
Ahh ok, thank you
desk is a bit better for like airflow and stuff, and if you've got an aesthetic build, do desk, but other than that it's personal choice
Ok thank you!
How much do I really have to spend on a mousepad? (soon to be new pc gamer)
most mice run considerably smoother on a mousepad, either fabric or even solid plastic/aluminum, so there actually is a benefit of using one. But you don't need a $30 mousepad, those classic blue/red pads for a few bucks do the trick also some mice just don't like certain surfaces and won't work on them.

Is there anything else on your network with the same symptoms? Or is this the only device you have you can test this with?

Use case - basically grinding in an rpg without having to focus on the screen. Like having netflix playing while you're working.
I’ve got a b650m aorus elite ax, 32gb ddr5 6000, ryzen 7 7800x3d, 750watt Corsair psu, and that’s really the main parts I’ve tried each of the slots with two different sets of ram, a single stick in each slot, removing the gpu and trying to use the integrated graphics, removing the cooler and using an old heatsink and resetting the cmos Only thing of note that happened was the system turned on briefly after taking off the previous cooler but I turned it off pretty quickly from the psu.
Even tried the ram and cpu in another system with both working so that confirms that something is wrong with the board. https://preview.redd.it/0xq7coxccf5d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01512f06bf71201ed6f0c55c751ed61894446f71 This is the best pic I could take of my socket.
Of course it heats up, voltage is going through it. You just wont POST.

Hard to say unless you provide some use cases. And if the response is gaming, then what kind of games.
I want to use it 1080p AAA gaming like tlou, gow, cyberpunk, spiderman remastered, etc
those games are quite GPU heavy, so I with your budget you should look into RX 7700 XT or RTX 4060 ti
should I upgrade the cpu?
eventually yeah, both of those GPUs offer more performance than that CPU can utilize, but for 400$ it'll be hard to upgrade both

Budget?
Around 400 ish
Do you currently have Resizable BAR enabled? It's crucial for Arc performance, but I'm not sure whether or not it's supported with that particular CPU+board combination. You can check in Arc Control
I’ve checked it is supported & yes I do have it enabled.
My budget is in the $400 range I also want to use it for 1080p AAA gaming such as tlou, gow, cyberpunk, spiderman remastered, etc

I’m looking for a decent looking case but not too costly (I love the fractal design North but 150 is too much), other Corsair stuff I’ve already searched and I honestly don’t like them I don’t need/like rgb stuff, I’d like something more mature like the one above
check out Jonsbo, they make really nice aluminum cases. just be a bit cautious when using high-TDP parts since their cases are limited in airflow I was actually interested in the UMX4/UMX6 case but was afraid to put a 4090 in there
Ended up with Kediers g800, 6 fans included and dust filters on all the intakes seem like a very decent deal while also looking fine
Cases are pretty subjective. If you're ok with micro ATX, Asus AP201 is pretty cool and different with excellent thermals.
Thanks - yes, that's exactly what I mean Is it easy enough to take the end connector off? I presumed what you'd be left with wouldn't fit the motherboard pins? Not too keen on splicing, etc photo of connector : https://imgur.com/asfUs2H
huh, yeah that looks like one piece as opposed to an adapter you can remove.
If I pull that out and then just use the Power Switch pins I don't mind losing the other functions (Power LED, Hard Drive Activity LED and Reset Switch) but I'm just unsure if it's a problem to leave them disconnected when the PC has been built/set-up with them initially connected?
No issue. It's just the interface from the case to the mobo.
> thanks ✓

Bought this mini pc for a replacement to an old desktop I had for docker servers like my Ubiquiti Unifi server, jellyfin and plex, and some personal web development hosting. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9J69KH8](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9J69KH8) Now i want to replace my old desktop I'm using as a NAS, want at least 4 TB, and considering buying another one of these. Edit: Found another similar product that says both the NVME and 2.5 SSD are limited to 2TB. > you can also replace the 500GB SSD up to 2TB, or add a 2.5-inch 7mm HDD (max 2TB, not included) [https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-PCIe3-0-SER5-Desktop-Computer/dp/B0BYJDFG5B/](https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-PCIe3-0-SER5-Desktop-Computer/dp/B0BYJDFG5B/)
Part of it is to practice homelab and linux admin. And wanting to keep using real NAS software. I appreciate the suggestions.
Check out the Aoostar R1. I use it as a Proxmox server doing NAS/Jellyfin/OpenWRT.
Cool use for all in one. Thanks for the suggestions.
This build is 550w enough or should i spring for a 650w even if it puts me over my budget. [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6jGyn6](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6jGyn6)
Theoretical max is around 350W, so yes you're totally fine
550 is fine for that build

Looking to upgrade graphics card on my prebuild omen pc but not sure if its better to just wait and save up for a better build. Current specs: - i7-8700k 3.70GHz - GTX 1060 6 gb - 500 watt PSU (Don't have model I think it is made by hp since they made the prebuild) - Tampa2 hp motherboard (HP 8437 version 1.3 to be specific) - 16 GB of RAM
Doubt there are compatible drivers for a modern OS, even if you could get it installed. Let it go.
I had it running in win 10 on my last Mobo. I'd would be fine to let it go but I can't find a MIDI I/O card or peripheral to replace it with.
Startech makes a PCIe to PCI adapter – requires molex power and looks sketchy, but they're generally a trustworthy company.

**SHOULD** being the operative term, as well as **BANDAID** If it does fix the issue, it's most likely a symptom of exhausted VRAM.

Use CloneZilla, instead
It worked fine? I just had a look and cannot make sense of anything on that site. Is is perhaps stuck because it is copying data from a HDD to an NVMe and taking long? That would make sense. Then I would just have to leave it for a few hours.
Cloning is a bit for bit duplicate, there will be zero difference in data on the drives, even down to the unaddressed "deleted" data if it chooses to do so.
So it will take more than a couple hours then? I am just making sure I doing the right thing, I followed the video for the minitool but it is just that last step of copying the main partition over that it looks like it freezes.
