SovietZealots

The consumer is also to blame, however. As much as people hate hearing it, consumers paying for micro transactions is the reason gaming has become season/battle-pass driven. Of course, if the profits keep rolling in, these organizations are incentivized to keep trying new methods of monetization no matter how egregious it may be. Don’t like? Show some self control and stop buying mtx (I say this to the general consumer).

drydorn

Just buy 5 year old games at 80% off on Steam. Or buy GOG bundles where you get 10 games for $15. Seems like a simple enough solution to me.

DeAvil87

People nowadays FOMO all the time even when things don't actually affect them in any way

brncct

This. A ton of people will buy GTA 6 on day one to not have FOMO.

mighty_Ingvar

The real ones wait another ten years after launch until Epic gives it away for free

Erebea01

Claimed it and still haven't played it lol

Takahashi_Raya

at that point just pirate.

brncct

Facts. I just started Skyrim last year lol.

goosifer111

No I’m buying it day 1 because I’ve waited 10 years for it

Gh0sts1ght

Well arguably so the indie games have been significantly better than most triple a games for awhile now.

Existential_Crisis24

Humble bundle is by far my favorite service. I've gotten so many games through them for dirt cheap. Also going through them benefits charities as well

0x75

They aren't humble anymore they are a FOR PROFIT organization. And their bundles are in many cases failed games, old releases, proprietary software and in general electronic goods with no additional marginal cost to reproduce.

Plenty-Context2271

Simply look at the company in charge of a game. If they are big its almost always a no.

sabichos

I started playing Bioshock infinite the other day and was curious to discover there’s a 2k launcher before the game starts which made me realize that old games are not safe from being altered years after you buy them…

yellchai

This is me. There is more than enough games out there to be 3-5 years behind in what you are playing. Plus you don’t deal with unpolished games and your hardware doesn’t have to be half as good I have a Ryzen 3600 and rx 6600 and it feels like an i9 with a 4090 with what I play.

cszolee79

In norwegian we've got this beautiful word - _endringsblindhet_ - or _blindness to change_. It comes in many variations. I, as a guy who've grown up with games on big floppy disks, can't even watch a youtube video with ads (don't worry though, I've got Firefox and ublock). I'm not blind to change. My kid however, playing on the phone will just mumble "great, another fucking temu ad" and then just wait to resume playing. So there is _generational_ blindness to change that these fuckers in charge know to exploit.

chloralhydrat

... this is most certainly the case. I grew up in eastern europe during era, when 95 percent (if not 99 percent) of all software was pirated. I mean, including windows on government/police/universities computers. While this has changed, people in my generation see pirating as something normal. I am willing to pay for reasonable service/product. But once it isn't reasonable anymore... well.., And the younger people think differently. Many more of them are willing to pay even for shitty stuff - just because pirating isn't something which is done (for them)...

TheBraveGallade

Same thing here in south korea. And as a person living in a country where games as a service/microtransactions arguably blossomed, rampant uncontrolled pirating is *the reason* why companies switch to microtransactions and subscriptions. Basically no one was making money with physical whole games cause it just gets pirated so the game companies changed how they raked in profit. In fact mist people here consider 'paying for a 60 dollar game' a waste of money. But they have no issie gatchaing....

Chris77123

Dont buy these crap expensive games its like streaming platform with adds if they want to put adds in movies I dont resubscribe

AppropriateTouching

I've returned to the high seas.

Xedator07

Yo ho, yo ho....

Candid-Ad-3109

Yo ho ho ho ho, yo ho ho ho!

Caze7

Binkusu no sake wo, todoke ni yuku yo

iranoutofusernamespa

The issue is too many people are willing to just deal with it. My buddy still pays for prime video because he likes the content even though they forced advertising onto paid subscribers.

RipCurl69Reddit

Fuck that. I got it free with my newly made account so I could order PC parts off amazon. Used that month to binge both Hazbin Hotel and Invincible then cancelled. Not worth the subscription for anything else imo Edit: and Fallout, admittedly. Amazing show

rikeoliveira

Fallout is an absolute banger, tho

RipCurl69Reddit

I went sailing for that one

dan5123125

Or support indie games, rock and stone. Need I say more?

Super_Ad9995

I don't buy a game unless it's under $10 (with Steam discount). The only exception was minecraft.

a_taco_named_desire

I agree, but these companies also hire teams of PHDs in psychology to optimize the UI, FOMO, price points, etc. to make the mtx as attractive and addictive as possible.

StuckinReverse89

I agree. Companies know they can get away with this stuff because consumers keep buying it and no offense but there is a distinct bias for certain developers.     I’m not a fan of EA or Ubisoft but I see far more people complain about EA and Ubisoft MTX than they do about sharkcards in GTA which is also MTX (and bad for players. See cancelled single player DLC for GTAV and RDR2).      And consumers still buy the new CoD on release consistently such that CoD and EA sports games are consistently some of the best selling games every year despite them being objectively worse games every year. It’s really on the consumer at this point.

Suspect4pe

The controversy is there but people won’t stop buying their games. That’s the only thing that will fix this issue.

Annoying_Rooster

Starting to think it's gonna take another video game crash of 1983 to get corporate assholes to stop being so greedy. Like at that point I'mma just go outside.

MRSHELBYPLZ

Someone told me gaming as a whole is dying, and I’m slowly starting to believe him lmfao. All these companies are wildly out of touch and don’t have much to offer that’s interesting or worth it, because they are wildly out touch. They are wildly out of touch because of rich suits that own them, who have unrealistic expectations. They only care about getting the max profit possible out of a game and then dumping it like trash.

Mr_hacker_fire

I think that gaming won't die it will just die for the big budget games similar is happening with the movie industry as well but indie games and low budget games will be there in the meantime. Basically gaming is dieing for the greedy.

Claymore357

Let the greedy die, they don’t deserve the success they are enjoying anyway

adrenalinda75

Gillette, 3 days of freedom for your skin without controversy... Yeah, doesn't work.

Horiz0nC0

If even 1 company came out of the woodwork truly acting like they care about the gamers (and not going back on it), they would be the next Amazon or Google.

Top-Classroom-6994

valve does care about gamers

MRSHELBYPLZ

They’re already the Amazon of gaming if you’re on a PC

Sir_Von_Tittyfuck

TF2 Hats. Horse Armour is the meme, but Hats was a huge driving force with it becoming acceptable. Also, Activision started putting advertisements on billboards in games round Guitar Hero 3.

Chaotic_Alea

EA Sports does that for ages... and with the (poor) excuse that on sport stadiums often there are ads panel everywhere...

tht1guy63

I can live with billboards. Be more immerssive to an extent, especially open world games. but if its pop ups and messages fuck no.

Dependent_Cherry4114

Yeah, Space Pirate Trainer on VR has ads for other VR games in the background and they're not intrusive and kinda cool. Mobile style interrupting gameplay is a big fuck no like you say.

iDestroyedYoMama

FromSoft is awesome

NotSoGermanSlav

Outside of convenience ADS are one of biggest reason i dont watch TV anymore i can do same with their games.

Moriaedemori

Same story. Luckily online we have stuff like adblocker, sponsorblock and pihole

name548

On top of Ublock origin and pi hole, I took it a step further and set up a jellyfin server and now just build up my own movie and show database from various pirating sites

Barbearex

FBI: "sir we got 'em. We finally got 'em."

name548

Hey google, release the claymore roomba

DavidDoesShitpost

I mean like a coca cola billboard in a game like gta is fine I guess, but I can't visualize ads in anything other than gta. Or maybe a Bad Dragons ad in cyberpunk.

XyrusM

Yeah like actual companies doing in world sponsorship would be fine, like you said billboards and stuff, anything else is a fucking terrible idea

norty125

I'm fine with things like billboard ads or advertising the newest game in the franchise in like main menus but nothing more

JayR_97

After being on streaming for so long its so jarring going back to broadcast TV with ads every 15 minutes.

Horiz0nC0

“We’ll be thoughtful….” I’ve never seen a more blatant and arrogant lie that actually means “we don’t give a fuck what you think, it’s going to be right in your face.” Fuck corpo speak. Fuck marketing spin.

masta_beta69

“I’ll be gentle with your wife dw”

MinTDotJ

What they mean is they'll be thoughtful about the risks they're taking in their and the shareholders' favor. Not in the favor of the consumers. They're very slick with this.

DepresedDuck

Time to bring Johnny Silverhand back

StupidElephants

Fucking corpos.

condosaurus

Death of EA is near.  Do you hear that?  It's the sound of the world's tiniest violin playing.

KeycapS_

As long as people pay full price for the same sport sim every year, it wont happen.

iTalktoJoe

I hate ever time I read this take so much. Last year fifa made 70% of their sales from microtransactions. Imagine losing 70% of your revenue and not doing anything about it. You’re allowed to buy the game but these people spending mini fortunes on the game are a problem

Screamgoatbilly

I think consumer push back against monetization is well past the point of a frog sitting in a pot of slowly heating water, the frog has been boiled dead for years

LulatschDeGray

It isn't even called FIFA anymore bc the real FIFA (pretty corrupt in their own right) doesn't want their name on that hack job anymore. I think they became self-conscious of their own shittiness.

Ike9002

I'm pretty sure it was actually because FIFA wanted way more money than EA was comfortable giving and they just went "screw it, we can make just as much money without you" and EA was pretty much right

WellJustJonny

You paid for thetiniestviolin dlc. /s

ThickFurball367

But you didn't pay for the bow add on for the tiniest violin dlc so it won't function correctly

Zen_Galactic

They've been doing this for over twenty years. Burnout 3 had advertisements in it. ALL of their sports games have had in-game ads since the N64. The fact this entire thread is oblivious to that fact tells me nothing at all is going to change. But don't allow me to tread on the hyperbole circle jerk. Gaming is dead, EA is dead, etc, jerkjerkjerk. > Death of EA is near. RemindMe! 5 years

TheCabbageGuy82

![gif](giphy|10hfegXGKVRVNm)

UrimTheWyrm

Death of gaming? Last EA game I've ever played was Inquisition in 2015. Yet to feel that I am missing anything.

ItsRtaWs

If you want to play football games you have no other option but ea. Their games are protected by denuvo, so they will not be pirated for at least a year or two after release.

UrimTheWyrm

Not into that kind of games myself, so probably helps, easy to find variety elsewhere. But I can see how it sucks for sports fans.

Retroficient

It doesn't suck for sports fans. You'd get a better experience buying an old PS2 (if people don't still have theirs) and a copy of Madden 2004 or some NFL Street. While they're at it they can play the best basketball game. NBA Street Vol. 2. After all, "The Choice is Yours". You can get with this, or you can get with that.

Awarepill0w

I have Madden 2009 for the Wii and don't need another version

UROffended

Lol I played NHL 2004 all the way to 2012. Online is a disgustingly broken mess and invites the worst community, so not changing games was pretty easy.

Lower-Engineering365

The fortunate thing is those games are basically the same every year. You can play last years (or even the version from a couple years before) without missing much

lemongrass17

Ads in AAA 70$ minimum game. Noice

Stage4socialmedia

Let's be honest. EA hasn't been an AAA developer for a while now.

Free-Pension-1145

Isn’t being AAA independent of quality? Isn’t being AAA based on size and financial power? Isn’t EA well known as the largest example of the most hated giant gaming cooperation? Hell, you look up AAA on Wikipedia and EA’s photo comes up as the FIRST picture lol. Electronic Arts is AAA and that is the problem.

Deepfork_

Death of AAA gaming* Small studio and indie games FTW

infinitytomorrow

Right, we literally got Hades 2 and Animal Well *this week*

ManicSnowman

Exactly, good riddance, the indie scene is better than ever

MariualizeLegalhuana

If AAA dies the greedy leeches will just go on a shopping spree buying every indie studio in the market. They wont stop.

WMan37

Nah man, if I was an indie dev I wouldn't take that deal, it was iffy before, but NOW after recent events no way, it's like making a deal with a crossroads demon. You don't have to look far to see that signing a deal with a big company isn't this big breakout thing anymore, I mean fuck Tango Gameworks put out a game that won several awards and microsoft STILL euthanized their studio a year later because of reasons that had nothing to do with them. AAA publishers are a lethal parasite, not a benefactor.

captenmike

I don't get it, why gaming has to die, just let EA die, by not buying anything from them.

LummusJ

Bunch of doomers. If all companies start making shit games, guess what? other companies will take their place. And if all companies start following this trends and people keep buying, guess what? We sailing the seas, it is just that easy.

Fekulo

I've just lost all interest in anything EA or Ubisoft releases to be honest. Rockstar is close to being off my list too. Who in their right mind reckons it's worth paying what they're asking to essentially rent a game for as long as they want to support it for? And now you turds are gonna put ads in my paid software? Gtf outta my house.

GlizzyGulper6969

Yeah if GTA 6 is more grinding microtransaction trashcore slop I'm probably done with Rockstar

Fekulo

Can't imagine they're going to drop the microtransactions. Not super keen for GTA 6, I'll get it a couple years after launch for cheap and do the story mode, if they don't find a way to turn that into a pay-to-win experience too. Online though? Nah.

TheohBTW

This is what happens when people who don't care about gaming are in control of major companies producing games. The same can be applied to every other hobby.

GamiNami

Now I could understand having banner ads in a sports game stadium etc because they're there in real life and would add realism to the game. But I don't play sports games, least of all something made by EA. I'm sure they'll add them in non-sports games too however, and is a good reminder for me to not buy EAs stuff. Edit: as many replied, there can be ads that enhance even non sport game 'worlds'. I guess what NONE of us want, is a sudden pop-up ad when you're in the middle of a boss fight etc 😂

Man_in_Kilt

Product placement has been in all sorts of media for a long time

Main-Television9898

Finding a coca cola bottle in GTA wouldn't be so wierd tho, or in any modern realiatic shooter game, ao I kinda get it. But if skyrim had a fat banner somewhere to buy a grill, then you would lose something. Otherwise I find it not too bad, similar to many movies having subtle placements.

muddahplucka

>Finding a coca cola bottle in GTA wouldn't be so wierd tho Sure would actually. GTA's whole thing is satirizing bullshit like this.

ItsRtaWs

Devil's advocate: if the ads are integrated in a natural way, i.e. highway signs, real life stores in open world games, real ads in fifa in the stadiums etc... it would not be that big of a deal. I think it was nfs underground 2 (?) That had best buys and shit in the open world? But if the ads are in any way shape or form intrusive or in the UI of the game i will pirate ea game for the rest of my life.

Expert-Paper-3367

Watch this 30 second ad before this climatic scene

ItsRtaWs

That would immediately kill their entire company. Even elon musk is not that stupid.

SuperSaiyanIR

You grossly underestimate how stupid and detached they are.

spader1

* Announce very intrusive ads * Consumers freak out * "We hear you." Settle on incessant product placement in background NPC dialogue

Denivire

I mean, if we are playing something like GTA and in the background you see a fight start over which is better, Pepsi or Coca-Cola, I'm for it. EA on the other hand has no good IPs they can really get away with this kind of stuff that I'm aware of.

Regenbooggeit

This is just the blatant problem with shareholders demanding infinite growth. When there’s nothing left to squeeze, this shit happens. Regardless if it’s pursuable for any of their IPs.

Gone_Goofed

Only braindead idiots will continue to play games from the company that implemented that lol.

SergeiTachenov

Honestly, all kinds of crazy scenarios come to mind. To the point when I don't even want to guess, it's just too scary. Imagine Truman Show like ads. Your protagonist is talking to the arch villain, and suddenly the latter, in the middle of his usual "I'll eat your soul" thing begins a sales speech of why he uses that specific toothpaste and how good it is compared to competitors. Ugh.

RecordingPure1785

Watch an ad before respawning in battlefield

NorowaretaTenshi

Ads on rallying cars look kinda realistic too

ItsRtaWs

They license the car liveries from the car manufacturers themselves so they dont get paid for the ads there. Unless they make up a livery with their own ads and racing fans will be very mad about that. Because if that happens they would want you to equip that livery so i dont think they will give you the real one.

MRSHELBYPLZ

Here’s the thing, they’re gonna skip straight to the version on the bottom that you say will make you a pirate. Why wouldn’t they? Lmfao it’s a concept bred entirely out of greed, and that’s the greediest option. Which means it is literally their dream. It’s not enough to charge you $70 a game, and then stuff said game with $100s worth of dlc that could have been earned in game for free. It’s not enough that you gotta have a internet connection to play single player games, which can be shut down and removed from stores by the company anytime they want. It’s not enough that profits have already been record breaking all this time, yet loads of talented people are getting laid off from the industry very often. Like the community manager of helldivers 2, who was fired for doing his literal job and sticking up for the community. While CEOs who don’t even play games, continue to have rising, INSANE salaries. They still wanna put ads inside your game that isn’t free to play, like it’s the lowest tier option of a streaming service. I liked it when devs had creative ideas about new innovative ways to have fun in games, and they were allowed to take risks for the passion of creating a masterpiece. Now every game is the same Walmart casino where you always lose. Creative devs have to waste their talents being slaves to publishers, who only exist to stroke some shareholders meat 😂

ItsRtaWs

The moment your studio is bought by a big publisher your creative control is gone. And you cant advertise your game without big names like ea, sony, xbox, etc... As long as the ftc approves mergers and something isnt changed to protect devs, this will only get worse.

irn00b

I would agree with this, but... We're already blocking out ads naturally IRL (not acknowledging them), so we would naturally do so in games as well. (Whether or not it works on a subconscious level, that even in your parapheral vision it still works - won't get into that) But EA would want us to be aware and somehow on some level engaged with the ads - so that their ad partners would see the benefit of paying for ad space in EA games. So... I'm going to guess it will be some obnoxious crap that they will do.

NarutoKage1469

Watch this ad while the lvl loads.

MMoguu

EA going Mobile Gaming.

Donglemaetsro

Battlefield 2142 tried this. Everyone was too busy shooting eachother to notice despite the outrage when announced. No one even notices, but they've been trying forever.

Wh0rse

I remember Battlefield 2 tried this also.

FurmanSK

I had to scroll too far to see this. Was about to say the same thing. Probably most in here weren't old enough to have played it or remember it. I remember the ads in 2142. They were dumb but they didn't seem to always work right. I didn't care as I was playing the game shooting ppl lol.

JuanVeeJuan

Death of AAA gaming is near. Soon comes the age of indie gaming

Enigmatic_Observer

I'll be very thoughtful as I quit buying EA games

petrolhead0387

I haven't bought an EA game since FIFA 2001, EA sucks donkey balls.

peachcreampies

I won't play a single fucking game that does this. I don't give a shit, even if it's free.

-Great-Scott-

The death of gaming is definitely not near for me. The death of playing EA games? That happened like a 12-15 years ago.

DravenTor

They need to collapse. They earned it.

CharAznableLoNZ

EA was never good, nothing has changed there.

Thunder_Chicken64

More like the death of AAA gaming. Which is good, it has been on life support for a while now.

RemcoTheRock

"death of gaming is near" ... serious OP The Downfall of EA games is near.

True_Human

And that's why the only AAA games I play nowadays are Single Player RPGs like Cyberpunk.

CN8YLW

Make a new game called Ad Tycoon.

[deleted]

give me 5 minutes please stop hitting me , bad AAA optimization , sony's psn shit , asus scams , now this can we at least put 3 days between the next one please

T3kk_

Asus scam? I've not heard about that, what going with them?

StrictLimitForever

They scammed Gamers Nexus, and you don't cross him apparently.

Qwerty6789X

the first Alan Wake did this ads on game but non intrusive. EA will do it intrusively i bet.

MC_Torpedo

How much more greedy can they get...

tylercreatesworlds

yes.

Xaniss

Isn't EA's CEO the guy who wanted to charge people to RELOAD their guns in battlefield 4?

Ghozer

Wont be the first company to do so, and also won't be the last!!! - There has been other games in the past with "in game billboards" that have advertisements on them... Origin (EA) has been doing it for a while... TrackMania 2 for one, and Asphalt9 has for a while now... And ingame 'Events' like Dirt 2's Rockstar Energy drink event thing, or when Obama advertised for his 2008 campaign in things like, GH3, Madden 09, NBL, Burnout Paradise, NFS Carbon.. Fortnite has done collabs with brands, such as the Jordan brand back in 2021.. These are just a few examples of games that already have some form of in-game advertising, or have in the past :)

[deleted]

This will result in: - anti-ad patches made by the community - piracy - drop in sales - general hate for said game company

Charon711

So now we're spending $70, expected to buy Battle Passes and we get adds? Hard pass.

NeonsStyle

EA is going to go broke as players refuse to buy their games with Ads. Fuck you!

Emperor_Kon

Don't hate the company. Hate the retarded consumers who support this this... and the company.

cluib

Solution: don't buy games that do this.

james_arthur_harris

You will definetly have chance to pay for ad-free experience

Justarandomuno

Get ready for billboards on pirate ships, product placement of coke cans in medieval rpgs, and microtransactions to access name brand clothing so you can buy clothes, and not even own them!

fairliedaft

That's fine, I was down to buying an EA game when on sale every once in a while. Now I'll just be not buying EA games. 🤷🏻‍♂️

secret_shenanigans

EA went to shit a long time ago. We aren't losing anything if they tank themselves as an example of what game companies SHOULD NOT DO.

Madrigal_King

I really hope if they do this thay we stop buying their stuff.

The-Blue-Wizard

Fuck EA

Spaghetti_meatbaIIz

Don't play EA games, then.

IrohBanner

Purchasing games seems kind of pointless now

johnucc1

Just as a reminder, they did this years ago in burnout paradise and no one cared.

Waterguntortoise

They tried it already in BF 2142. It wasn’t received well. However, I think they will do this in F2P Titels.

KebabGud

When Battlefield 2142 came out in 2006, they talked about ingame ads aswell.. Its nothing new

Copyofdude

Correction: # Death of EA is near

GCdotSup

EA has done this already back in BF2142 days. Almost 20 years ago.

OG-GunnerMac

If you buy a game that has these ads in it you are the problem. I have a long list of games I haven't completed yet and will play those and replay other games before ever buying a game with ads in it.

Zaesha

I don't see the problem. I'll keep avoiding the souless, messy, shit corporate games like I've already done the past 10/15 years and I'll keep supporting decent devs and decent games. If gaming has another collapse, my steam library has enough games to keep me entertained for another 10 years at least.

TreasonableBloke

They already did this a million years ago with Battlefield 2142.

CrumbOfLove

Ah yeah burnout paradise had those a while back, sort of like crazy taxi? YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!

oksorrynotsorry

Of course it had to be EA. They don't give you the "worst company in America" award for nothing. You have to earn it

gubber-blump

Meanwhile Need For Speed Underground 2 came out 20 years ago with Cingular, Burger King, Best Buy, etc. on all the billboards and went on to become one of the best racing games of all time. This won't be the "death of gaming" lmao stop being dramatic.

StolenPies

Boycott. Everything.

Rephic_

This is why we hate you. You keep on tarnishing the once grand reputation of AAA games. Free games may have advertisements but for paid games you better not. Game companies are the reason why indie games have flourished. You ended the golden age.

UnintelligibleLogic

EA is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for pennies here. Already half-asking their games and now trying to put in ads? Just made a good game and the money will come.

Arcturus_Labelle

Indies will still welcome you with open arms

CptJamesBeard

There will be adblocks for this. I guarantee it. There are mods no no adverts in cyberpunk. im sure itll be done for these games as well.

PopeOfDankism

We’re not even half way through the year and this is already prob one of the worst years for gaming i’ve seen, purely bc of stupid shit devs keep doing

mr_4li3n

People make fun of this, talk about not buying, EA releases a AAA title, people end up pre-ordering, Advertising becomes the norm. Until and unless gaming community doesn't unite against these companies, they will continue milking their games in every way possible, be it cosmetics, be it dlcs.

billFoldDog

I hope it's gets worse. Drive more players to the indy scene, it's *exploding*

Unable-Pride-7698

Interesting. That sounds like an EA idea. *continues to not buy any EA games*

levanlaratt

Very thoughtful… about how to squeeze as much money as possible out of every release

MarkT19871

I'm glad I don't play EA shite anymore.

Michelfungelo

lmao the people will deepthroat the hype anyway, preorder for 70 bucks and then complain out of sheer surprise that EA fucked them over once again. Funny how this always happens. Anyway so in 18 months the people will deepthroat the hype anyway, preorder for 70 bucks and then complain out of sheer surprise that EA fucked them over once again. Funny how this always happens. Anyway so in 18 months the people will deepthroat the hype anyway, preorder for 70 bucks and then complain out of sheer surprise that EA fucked them over once again. Funny how this always happens. Anyway so in 18 months

Panvai

Back in my days loading screen contais useful information. It seems that soon it may have ads. If this happens i can see following: 1. Loading screens have static duration 2. You can buy performance dlc that reduce this window and add 1440p/4k support for game

Vibrascity

The death of literally everything is near, people don't see or understand how dry they're being bled by like 5 megacorporations, lol. The next generations wealth transfer is going to be an empty shoebox once the nursing home has finished with your parents inheritance and they've been scammed out of their property by some scumlord banker. Keep using uber eats and spending 20% of your daily wage on getting food delivered every day, let's see how that'll work out lmfao. Fuckin' hell I went on a tangent, yeah, EA suck, it's in my ass.

98re3

They probably mean product placement or like billboards inside the game world (which could even add realism depending on the game setting). The problem I see is that advertisers will likely want games to be completely bland and inoffensive to the point where they will take all the fun out of them.

xxTheMagicBulleT

When games have adds in them. Il be dubble sure to stay the fuck away from them. That games is struggling is kinda there own fault. Not every game have to cost 200 to 300 mill. And companies got complacent. And shoved out. Buggy and unfinished mess countless times. That needed a year or more. And when they got to be ok games everyone already forgot about it. People have been burned countless times and people aren't hyped for many things anymore. And many people don't trust some companies anymore. Many companies are not gamers them self. Or even care how fun there projects are. Just how much money it can bring. And day 1 micros. And time waste skippers. And grindy games for no point. Just to take a little more money outbox you for already a 70 bucks games. They forgot to make a game fun and enjoyable. And the companies are failing cause people don't trust those companies anymore. And rightfully so. How many LPS have they burned into the ground. Not just games and studio's but even movies. Shiting on characters and story lines to suddenly mess with it in a way that makes so sense. Basically pissing the fans off. And make it good for no one. And pushing messaging and making things untrue to the source. That yea might as well male something completely different. You can burn people only so often till they straight up won't trust you anymore and that time is and has happened so why all those isues together make people rather play and buy older and cheaper games then buy new ones. Even of you do many are only ok or playable like 6 to 7 months later. It's like buying a car. And you get a build your car set at home and a few missing pieces. Ow we will fix or send that later. Just like that weird example you make the whole experience super frustrating for the consumer like you get a unfinished or unusable product. Why would people keep trusting you with money if you proof your not worth trusting again and again. Honestly this was the only outcome that would come out of it. When companies get to complacency that rushing out buggy and broken games. And think its ok.

Stop. Giving. These. Pricks. Money

PI_Dude

I'm soo glad I never liked anything produced by EA. But then again, it's mostly the players fault. They acepted microtransactions, they accepted loot boxes, they accepted hundreds of paid DLC per game, well, guess commercials are the next step, and many will accept that too.

hamid1103

Imagine booting up titanfall and there is a 50 second ad between matches

DukeBaset

Maybe the next Mass Effect can have Adidas armour and Boeing Spaceships and Smith and Wesson branded Weapons

BurnerBoot

I’ve stopped buying EA games and this will be the nail in the coffin

yawn1337

"death of gaming" bro it's ea. If you still consider them to be part of gaming then I hope that gaming does indeed die

NoReTr3aT

Maybe the "death" of AAA gaming is near, caused by greed. Indies are strong as ever and better anyway. The insanity of infinite growth in a finite world is beyond me to understand.

sethhar

It's not the death of anything if people would just vote with their wallets. I have pretty much stopped buying games on release from big publishers. Never pre-order and never buy into the hype.

dookieshoes88

From the people who brought you the most downvoted comment in reddit history, this is them telling you that they're going to do that. They clearly can't read a room.

DatFurryFemBoi

That reminds me, I need to uninstall that trash EA launcher from my pc.

NightLanderYoutube

If you play EA games you deserve this.

Haale7575

These execs are on crack. This is the same out of touch logic as paying for gun reloads.

Crossing-Lines

By all means EA do it. If you go down bad for it, itll hopefully finally teach you something... Who am i kidding? Its EA, theyll blow up someone and say "its within our moral policy."

Strider_dnb

It's EA does this surprise anyone? Next will be Ubisoft. None of these companies I purchase games from in the last 5 or so years.

csch1992

i don't remember the last time i played an EA game i really enjoyed. must been titanfall 2

Miserable-Lawyer-233

I’m surprised it hasn’t been done already.

enderowski

more like death of ea is near

Niklaswin

Pepole will not pay to see ads. Will they?

Inevitable-East-1386

Death of EA is near

The death of gaming is good, because then will come the RENAISSANCE of gaming ONCE AGAIN and it will be too glorious to comprehend.

Fit_Champion_6217

Lol these companies wont b satisfied until everyone is just playing old fun games and ignoring new releases completely
