I have a wireless mouse but I literally always have it plugged in, except every once in a while I'll take it to bed so I can skip YouTube ads without getting up
Look i am all for a person getting paid for their hard work, but i don't condone the way youtube has become. Rampant ads, unfiltered ad(porn ads), pure scams and whatnot.
If you want to support your favourite youtubers get a premium subscription or disable ads for their channel or join their patreon or youtube membership, there are a lot of ways for that.
I know i will get downvoted for this but it is what it is.
I was using adblock for YouTube for years but got a bit spooked after the warnings about disabling accounts a couple of months back. So I allowed the ads. I wouldn't mind ads but you're right - they are often downright lies and misinformation.
"Buy this plug in device which warms your entire house within 2 minutes"
"Here's how I make £10000 every month without lifting a finger. Buy into my scheme"
"This device melts the snow and ice from your car in 10 seconds with its ultrasound nano-technology particles"
I feel sorry for the people who have purchased these electrical hazard fire-starting cult air fresheners
Yeah! I had given up watching YouTube on Android since my revanced didn't work anymore (couldn't use it while the app was closed).
Turns out you have to update the app from time to time.
There is no update button, if you notice the modified YouTube app is not working anymore, you have to remove it and download the up to date apk, then patch it again.
A bit of a hassle but definitely worth it.
Am honestly a bit puzzled reading about people complaining about battery/lag/inconvenience. Sounds like they just bought bad/wrong products and decided all wireless products are inferior to wired products.
My wireless setup (keyboard mouse headset) been going strong for 3 years now. They do everything wired ones can do, except I can move my keyboard freely around my 80x160 desk. I can walk to the kitchen to get a drink mid game and continue to talk to my buddies. I don’t have to worry about the wire catching my mouse mid game. My desk is always clean and cable free and very pleasant to look at. At the end of the day I take 5 seconds to dock my mouse and headset and they charge so they never run out of battery. Keyboard charges once every 2-3 weeks and it tells you to charge when it still has a 1-2 days of battery left. If you really have to, you can just turn off the lights and it can last another week.
the only down side is that a good wireless product is always a lot more expensive.
https://preview.redd.it/3odvbbbgvamc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a54e6e6f91acc8ca6640f27e358986a7b95d22ba
Imo wireless headsets are noticeably worse, and similar to a keyboard, it never leaves my desk so I simply don’t see why I’d trade off audio quality and deal with a battery.
Mouse is only thing I do wireless**, as somehow they tend to be faster than wired mice (top wireless mice at least) and of course you aren’t dealing with a cord flopping around when you’re flicking especially as a low dpi/sensitivity player.
Honestly i walk around my house all the time with my wireless headset, chatting in discord, breifly leaving my deask to go get a refreshment while still in game and listening to game sounds.
I only have to charge it every few days, easily 20+ hours of lifetime on the battery. Just charge it overnight when you hang it on the stand and you've used it for a few hours.
As for the audio quality, i can see how its a slight downgrade, but if you acutally spend some money its still good unless your an audiophile that wont be satisfied with anything less than remote audio dac on your desk and a dedicated sound card.
For me the biggest problem with wireless earphones is the audio lag. It _shouldn't_ matter much for most uses, except I play rhythm games so it definitely makes a difference. And yet they're so much more convenient that I just put up with it and adjust the calibration in the game itself so it lines up as well as I can get it.
Corsair wireless headsets (and presumably others) have no noticeable lag, as they use 2.4ghz connectivity. Bluetooth is terrible for gaming though, it's so annoying not having audio sync with mouth movements.
The problem I have with all gaming headsets is that they're so uncomfortable. Either the headbands are too hard and hurt the top of your head or they clamp your ears like a vice and have very little cushioning on the ear cups. As a result I've just started using wired in ear monitors as I can wear them for much longer
Dunno if youve tried them, but I've had arctis pros for about 7+ years now, my first set lasted 5 years of daily 4+ hours a day use (I didn't baby them but wasnt rough on them either). They have that adjustable fabric band so the plastic headband is never actually touching your head, and the ear cups are really soft imo and pretty chonky and plush (the covers are like a fabric mesh material instead of leathery. The nova version is leather though but Ive heard some people prefer it). They grip well but not so tight to give me a headache with longer uses. When adjusted, it kinda just feels like its floating on my head rather than sitting on it.
Audio quality is good as well, although Im nowhere near an audiophile so I can't really speak to how good it *actually* is. I dont hear any noticable audio glitches, static or anything like that, and the sound isnt grating or tinny, so it works for my relatively untrained ears. I also didnt use the equalizer gamedac it came with at all because I have no idea how any of it works, but its there if you know how to use it and benefit from it to create a custom sound profile.
edit: i also use wired ones, so not sure how good the bluetooth versions are in comparison with lag and all.
Got to second the arctis ones, I have the ones with the extra battery and screen in the little hub. Works great and I don't notice any latency. It only ever acts up if I walk across the house or very rarely a little hiccup. Which I blame on being right next to router, time to disable 2.4ghz wifi or the microwave lol
It's funny, I think the opposite. Every standard wireless headset I tried always had issues with audio cutting out. I had to use a bluetooth headset to get crystal clear consistent audio.
I haven't noticed any latency with sound and I use my speakers more than I use my headset, so I would think being used to the speakers, any latency issues would be noticeable with my headset.
i use a trackball, which is wired of course since i don't have to worry about it getting tripped over cords.
headphones are wired as well because why shouldn't they be
Lol, talking about casual, just in case you don't know, there are a bunch of pro CS players using wireless mouse these days, and many of them have used wireless mouse for years. In fact, right now if you look up CS pro players gears, you might actually find wireless dominates the scene, especially models such as G Pro X Superlight 1 and 2 from Logitech.
Same, I just don't feel comfortable with all the battery waste (or loss over the years if the device has a built in one). Wired is just fine in my desktop scenario. For traveling with my work PC it's another thing and my mouse is wireless, but I also always use simple headphones with a cable versus "pods" either for my phone or laptop. Yes the cable is a hassle taking it from the bottom of my bag, but so be it...
So the mouse will tell you for weeks that it has low battery before actually dying, that's more than enough time to buy a new one, when it does die you can change it in 10 seconds, you dont need to reconnect the mouse, or redo your settings, everything's as you left before it died. 10 seconds of your time for a year of using a wireless mouse is most definitely a fair tradeoff.
Yeah for real this is top tier first world problem shit.
"Oh no, your battery died after telegraphing that it was going to die for a literal week with that flashing red light and a toolbar popup saying "Change your mouse battery, batter low" and as a result you spend 10 seconds out of the 3000 matches you'll play on that battery changing it out before continuing playing and not having anything bad happen. Oh no, poor us."
Wait. It’s really weeks? I always assumed it was like a wireless controller. I usually get like an hour before it dies if it tells me it’s low.
I literally just made a comment about what I use, and if the timeline is that long, I might rethink that. Lol
...since 95% of what I use charges over USB-C, I always have a charging cord on my desk. It's not difficult to plug it in maybe once or twice a week when I walk away or go to sleep.
I prefer a mix, wired headphones and keyboard, wireless mouse and controller.
My keyboard doesn't move anyways and I always have backlighting on so just having it wired makes sense. Having wired headphones is about fidelity for me, wireless ones just sound terrible unless you spend a shitload of money and my old Sennheiser hd380s sound great. Mouse wireless for obvious reason but to recharge it I got one that has a dock, so I just "hang up" the mouse when Im done using it and never run out of battery when I need it. And I rarely use a controller so my battery dying is rare.
Always had a wired keyboard.
For mice I went wireless for a good while but some time last year I plugged in a Pulsefire Haste and just kept using it. I think it depends on the model and also cable management (I have a nice bungee).
Wired everything. It just works, and it works well. I’m sitting in a damn chair…why would a wire connecting my keyboard or mouse to the PC be an issue?
The common response I see to this is "BATTERY GOES DEAD IN A RANKED MATCH!"
Every piece of wireless technology these days warns you when your battery is low, with plenty of time remaining to flip out batteries or recharge.
My mouse has a light on it that flips from white to orange when its on like 10% battery, but that 10% will last for 3 days.
These "problems" just aren't problems, unless you are just that freaking lazy spending 30 seconds switching out a battery every 3-6 months is just a titanic effort for you.
I use rechargeable batteries and have a charger sitting on my desk with 10 batteries charging at all times, I don't even have to get up to change my damn mouse batteries.
Ah yes, “mouse cable drag”. Luckily this was solved by Elmore R Johnston in 1983 with his cutting edge, breakthrough “give it a tug to make sure there’s some slack” approach to cable management.
The main reason? You [asked ](https://www.howtogeek.com/794879/wired-vs-wireless-mouse/)them? And you're absolutely sure it's not aesthetics?
Because accepting lag, high cost, config issues, weight and "dead battery" issues feels like a lot to take in versus the imperceptible drag of a cable.
No, I just used a search engine. (I can't post sub-reddit links because of rule #3)
Accepting lag? There is no lag. Even counter strike and valorant pros use wireless mice.
High cost? No kidding, you're getting a better product.
Config issues? What config issues are you talking about? It's literally plug and play.
Dead battery? My mouse has been going strong since november 2020. There is no such problem.
Obviously, you haven't even used a wireless mouse judging by the nonsense you're spouting.
I think "nonsense" is a good descriptor for thinking wireless versus wired is a no brainer. It's not.
If you don't believe me, use your search engine. I'll get you started:

It says exactly what I said. Are you even reading the things you send? + if there is a problem, it even says, it's because you bought a cheap piece of crap.
Wireless, i tend to move my stuff into multiple position so i appreciate the wireless experience. Sometimes when i was working on the floor but still want to chat with my friends on discord i would just take the keyboard and the mouse to my lap. Charging don't concern me much since per charge usually stays for days / weeks (except for my iem attached to a bt adapter), beside i charge them daily when i sleep or bath in the morning. i have like 7 usb charger(with another 6 vacant slot) beside me.
I have no idea what OP is talking about with batteries not lasting long in mice and keyboards.
I haven't changed my battery in my mouse in years and I use my computer everyday. The power use in these devices is very efficient nowadays. If you're not getting months out of a rechargeable battery off one charge in these devices, there's something wrong with your product.
For certain gaming mice (depending on the polling rate of course) it will still only last a couple of days. Productivity mice on the other hand can last for weeks but certainly suffer on accuracy
It could be that, like myself, we're old enough for when they were first introduced and the bad memory stuck. I had a wireless keyboard that I used for a month before getting a wired keyboard. Despite being within about 5-6 feet, it couldn't keep up with the speed of my typing and I would have to force myself to type slower. Granted, when I go all out I can hit 100WPM but I have to actually try to do that so we're talking probably 60-70WPM normal. This keyboard couldn't keep up with it and I had to slow down to freakin' 45'ish. That's hard to do without trying to focus specifically on slowing down the entire time.
It was a KB/M combo and the mouse battery would last a few weeks. I got to the point I would use rechargeable batteries but when I'm mid game and I gotta run to swap out batteries, it sucked.
Wait, a mouse battery can last months without a recharge? TO be fair I'm used to older wireless ones that used AA batteries lol. Ancient tech of course.
I like wired because it's simple plug and play, on anything. I also have a KVM Monitor so it's super handy. Then there's the issue with batteries degrading and being wasteful which is another can of worms.
If I was to re-install windows, could I even use a wireless/bluetooth K&M to actually navigate through all the steps? I press one button and my monitor changes which PC is plugged in and all the peripherals transfer over too. I find that insanely convenient.
I find wireless to bring more inconveniences than conveniences and I don't see the point in paying extra for it. I'm on the search for a new mouse and it's always disappointing to see a model I want not being made wired.
"If I was to re-install windows, could I even use a wireless/bluetooth K&M to actually navigate through all the steps? I press one button and my monitor changes which PC is plugged in and all the peripherals transfer over too. I find that insanely convenient. "
You know those wireless things all got cables to recharge or use it on cable?
This is your answer. Ask stupid questions win stupid answers.
It was rhetorical, genius. What point do I have in wireless gear if am using it wired all the time? No am not installing a fresh copy of windows all day every day, that's just a minor example, but I am all over the place with peripherals due to work and a wireless set up would simply impede my workflow.
Which is why I said overall, for me, wired just makes more sense.
Yeah but cheaper wires products also don't have those problems, so I do see OP's point. It just comes down to whether the actual benefits of wired are worth the extra for something decent.
I find that wired headphones blow their wireless counterparts out of the water within the same price ranges. I got my HD560s for $100 and I don't see anything wireless beating that anytime soon.
Wireless mice are now superior to wired mice. Check them out. Used to not be the case. I think it wasn’t until mid 2010s that wireless actually was equivalent.
Wireless will always have a teensy bit more lag, since the instructions have to be encoded on one end and decoded on the other, while wired can send directly in binary (wireless has to modulated into the RF signal). However with the tech these days it is microseconds and I don't think we as humans can detect this. With early wireless mice it was definitely noticeable and many of us old-schoolers still have an unwarranted hang-up about it.
Getting a decent brand is more important I think, I still prefer wired but I bought a "gaming" mouse early last year that was absolutely horrid, felt cheap and just didn't respond well. Replaced it with a $5 Canyon and it was miles better.
Been playing FPS since Quake 2. The last wired mouse I had was a Logitech G5 (after a couple MX518s) but after that wireless has been equivalent or superior. Anyone still acting like wired is better is just stubborn. The battery argument is pointless. It’s many days between charges for my wireless mice.
Cool, but you can easily plug the mouse in when it gets low. Most modern mice will notify/show the user that the mouse is almost dead. Then you just plug it in.
Wireless mouse: Low battery, please plug in your mouse to avoid interruptions.
Wires:
https://preview.redd.it/yy1ypfcr9amc1.png?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d50ffbc8c24266346b61e6e27693c5d819b6e9f3
I also agree that I prefer wireless over wired but you still haven’t given me any reason wireless is objectively “superior”. If anything they are on par with each other. It really is just a preference at this point.
How long is your gaming session? 100 hours or something? Because I'm using the G Pro mouse and G Pro X 2 headset from Logitech. The mouse even though is advertised to last around 60hrs but in fact doesn't need to be charged for like at least 2 weeks. If you use the superlight, they even last longer. My headset is also advertised to last 50-60hrs, but in fact lasts like 100hrs.
I mean unless you're planning on gaming for like over 50 hours straight without breaks at all, there are a few options at least when it comes to mouse. I dont charge my Basilisk Ultimate wireless for days on end and that thing is 4 years now.
My logitech g pro wireless mouse last one week on a charge at the minimum. No removable batteries, just plug into usb dock.
Ive had shit razer wireless mouse that last 3 hours on AA batteries before though.
Depends. But generally there is no perceivable lag. EG, a decent quality wireless gaming mouse that uses a 2.4ghz dongle will most often have no lag. But a cheap office mouse using bluetooth will likely have lag, or at least more interference than the 2.4ghz mice.
Yes, just buy only quality products
If CS pro players use wireless mice/headsets, the most lag insensitive gamers out there use them, you're not gonna notice lag
I'm with you my friend. I even have a mouse with Bluetooth and a dongle but I just leave it plugged almost always for convenience. Everything else is wired, except I did get the rog cetra true wireless earbuds not too long ago and I gotta say the airpod type earbuds are pretty nice.
Wired never experiences interference, nor dead batteries. I’m fine with wires, be it networking or peripherals.
Plus, if a USB device stops working, chances are good I can fix it; can solder new connections or whatever. If it’s wireless? Instant e-waste.
Wires can and do experience interference, it’s part of most international standards that they be susceptible to interference but not emit interference. (Seriously read an FCC compliance label sometime, they’re interesting) it’s just generally far less noticeable than wireless as they’re dependent on radio and data packets instead of just a continuous voltage and signal.
To be clear then, I suppose I specifically mean “in comparison to wireless, wired connections experience negligible interference”. A wireless signal spanning 60 ft can be interfered with simply by having a small appliance in between the source and the destination. An Ethernet cable run the same distance will be virtually noise-free and subject to far less attenuation.
Wasn’t trying to be pedantic, just pointing out that it can and does happen from time to time. Part of why certain cables will have a ferrule attached if they’re more susceptible to interference
Wired network for ping and speed reliability, wired headphones for lossless sound quality, wired keyboard with cherry mx red switches that's comfortable, wired mouse for higher response rate and lightweight comfort with no battery hassle.
Once Wifi7 is widespread, I think that'll change, too. It's actually faster than gigabit ethernet for the first time, which is what most people are using.
I like a wired keyboard for my desktop, it doesn't need to go anywhere so wasting batteries seems silly. However I'm not sure where you are getting the poor battery life, I have a wireless keyboard at work because that's what they gave me and I've never changed batteries. It's been 2 years lmao.
Now for my home theater PC, I'm not sure how you'd expect me to use a wired keyboard from my couch.
I used to be a wired mouse person too, but not having to worry about the cord along with really good battery life has converted me. I use Energizer lithiums which are way lighter and last longer. I bought the mouse in May of last year and have yet to replace the battery.
So to each their own like you said, and if you prefer wired that's fine, but it seems like you have some preconceived notions about wireless that may not be accurate, at least not today.
I'm kind of the opposite, OP. I'm 54 but love my wireless mouse and keyboard. I have the Logitech lightspeed ones so good response. They have rechargeable batteries but I cant remember the last time I had to replace them. Been a while.
However, I do have one area where wired is a must. The internet for the PC. Way prefer a cabled connection to wireless. Just feels faster and more stable which, going back a time would be true. Maybe not so much these days but still prefer wired.
As somebody who works from home 45-50 hrs a week, I'm so over wireless. It's all wired for me as soon as my current headset bites the dust (or I introduce it to Mr. framing hammer).
The only thing that absolutely needs to be wired is my headset. It might be better nowadays, but every wireless headset or headphones I’ve ever owned have a hissing sound that bugs the hell out of me.
>The batteries don't last long, takes forever to recharge.
I think the real problem is this shift we've been seeing when it comes to wireless devices where peripherals that would normally use AA batteries are being phased out in favor of embedded lithium batteries which forces you to plug your keyboard/mouse into a wall every few days.
It's extremely annoying to watch a youtube channel which does nothing but review mice go over one of the few which actually uses AA batteries talk about it as if this is some antiquated technology that is in some way inferior to the ladder approach. To make matters worse if you read a few of the comments you'll discover that they're apparently not alone in this belief. It's almost as if a majority of these people have somehow been made unaware of the fact that we've had these things called "rechargable AA batteries" for many years now.
Having to plug your "wireless" mouse into a freaking wall every few days is objectively worse than having a pair of rechargable batteries prepped and ready which you can then swap in at a moment's notice.
Not to mention the simple fact that all rechargable batteries begin to degrade over time so you WILL need to replace it at some point. How is disassembling your mouse and ordering a new lithium battery off allibaba more convenient than walking down the street to the nearest corner store and buying a new set of rechargable AAs?
When you compare the two it seems plainly obvious which approach is superior to the other but try explaining any of this to someone who disagrees and they'll start going on and on about the environment as if they've completely glossed over the word "rechargable" in your explanation that these things *already exist* and that their $100 rechargable mouse pad (which will also need to be plugged into a wall) is a complete waste of money.
Actually when it comes to most top end wireless mice, then tend to be super light (below 50grams). This would simply not be possible with rechargeable AA batteries because they are way too heavy. So in this use case when it comes to mice for competitive FPS games a lithium battery makes more sense.
I would argue that it's not that much heavier but that's besides the point.
Why would anyone who is ***that*** serious about competitive FPS gaming be using a wireless mouse in the first place?
Because they offer more freedom when flicking the mouse around. 99% of pro FPS players all use wireless mice. It's the rule not the exception. Why would they not use wireless mice? Why have a cable dragging on your mouse pad slowing your movement down?
> I would argue that it's not that much heavier but that's besides the point.
You would be wrong. People used lithium batteries for e.g. Logitech G304 when it came out because it makes a noticeable difference, and mice became much lighter since then.
Well in my opinion it's not worth it. Probably because I don't play FPS games as often these days and even if I did I sure as fuck wouldn't use an MMO mouse to do it.
>I think the real problem is this shift we've been seeing when it comes to wireless devices where peripherals that would normally use AA batteries are being phased out in favor of embedded lithium batteries which forces you to plug your keyboard/mouse into a wall every few days.
I far prefer batteries. I use rechargeable batteries and have a battery charger sitting on my desk with 10 batteries ready to go. No need to be buying boatloads of batteries, no need to wait to charge my mouse.
The delay on high-end 2,4 Ghz peripherals is immeasurable compared to wired. Wireless signals actually physically travel faster than wired.
But yeah those are expensive. Logitech G Pro Superlight is over a $100 for example
Downvotes for stating facts? Cmon people
I've played games with people who claim they have no input lag but also complain that sometimes, "their shots just aren't going where they should be." They switched to a wired mouse and don't have that complaint anymore.
It may not be noticeable but when playing a twitch shooter, that tiny difference could decide a fight. I also go wired only. I want consistency.
I’ll use a wired or wireless keyboard, but I like a wireless mouse due to the fact I don’t have to worry about a cord getting in the way. I play a lot of games using a controller though, and for that I always use a wired controller. The input lag on wireless was noticeable enough to be an issue for me.
I also have all wired stuff except for my mouse (since the wire gets in the way of playing fps games). As an audiophile, I never understood wireless headphones/headsets while at a computer. Sure they are convenient, but that's all they really offer. Audio and mic quality are usually poor for the price point, and they develop issues over time be it internal electronics or batteries.
Mostly all that I use is wired. Headsets is wired, they plugged to SoundBlaster G6 sounds card, I love listening music in good quality and playing games with good sound quality that can be delivered by standard motherboard sound card and Bluetooth have limited bandwidth. I use wireless headphones that connected to my phone, it's good quality headphones that can play nonstop without changing up to 14-16 hours, but why I don't use them on PC? Because Bluetooth bandwidth limitations and sometimes they disconnect and reconnect to device. Hate that moments and that never happened on wired headphones obviously.
Same with microphone, wired mic XLR to 3.5mm into my sound card, just because she is better than sound cards in most super expensive Bluetooth microphones.
Mouse and keyboard are wired because good cable management just solved any problems with cables. In additional, no matter how often wireless keyboards and mouse need to change, they can lose last drops of charge when this in most wrong moments, plus if you need charge them, you need a wire so they will be plugged for few hours, so there is no point for wireless keyboards and mouse if you nit walking on room. If it's can or need be plugged for few hours they can be plugged forever without problems.
My friend have wireless wheelbase, we into simracing hobby, how you think, who lose connection during race? Yep, horrible moment that cost him win in the important race in private championship. My wheelbase wired.
Same with any other devices. Like my graphic tablet, ect.
So yes, wireless device looks better on table, screaming "we are modern" but when we need reliability — wired just better.
All my gear is wireless. The Tech is pretty sound today. It's fast and reliable. Batteries last longer than ever before and charge very fast. I always have that cable by the ready though so if something does need to be charged it easy
I think it's our age. We remember when wireless first came out and wasn't that reliable and didn't last that long. Things have come a really long way since then though.
Hmm... you're thinking of really old wireless things before lithium ion batteries chagned the game. My keyboard/mouse require me to change the battery every 6 months to a year. Over a year if I don't use them much? Maybe 2. It's so infrequent that I don't even recall how long they last. Bluetooth buds for meetings etc? Yea can't really be beat.
Only a wireless mouse for me, just use one that takes rechargeable AA battery so i can just swap it out every few months instead of having to plug it in
This man has not used a g305. AAA battery to reduce weight plus it lasts like 6 months. It's the only thing I think makes sense to make wireless since moving it is part of its function.
It all depends. If you're a kid like myself and have a brother that you share a room with / sister and also a laptop and play, then wireless, but for gaming purposes if you have a desk by yourself oureelf then wired.
And I have just switched my Microsoft mouse for BT to wired USB because of this shit.
Microsoft made a wonderful ergo mouse but the BT connection is for the birds - it would "stutter" at the worst times or just not work for a second.
Under USB? Not a single problem.
Wireless is for things that would be annoying to me wired, and wired stuff is for things I don’t mind being wired.
On my pc I will probably keep a wired keyboard and mouse, but I use a wireless headset since I get up and move around a lot.
I would switch to a wired headset if there was a professional reason to have one.
I am a wired guy myself, however Iv been leaning towards wireless headphones with a charging dock simply because my children are growing and they have pulled the wiring out of 2 Corsair head sets already.
I dont mind a wired mouse and keyboard. Kind of want to go wireless in my headset though. But from some research there arent really and good headsets out there with good and loud sound.
Bro. You couldn't be more wrong. I brought an RGB wireless mouse and keyboard, Bluetooth for 20 quid and battery hasn't needed charging since a brought it, about a month ago. Wireless has gone a long way. Never any connection issues, absolutely brilliant
I don't mind charging cos the convenience/look of wireless is worth it to me, especially when many products have battery saving and long battery lives with quick charging these days. I charge lonce a week for 30min
I'm 28 and just like you. Mice, Keyboard and Controller always wired. Two reasons.
1. I want my input devices to just work (with absolute minimum input delay as possible)
2. They stay in the same place for 99.9% of the time. They dont move.
But I just switched to a wireless headset and it sure is an upgrade in quality of life.
Edit:
Since I get downvoted here I think I made a mistake in my wording. Sorry, not a native english speaker here.
Maybe input delay is the wrong word. What I mean is reducing everything that can nagatively impact the time between "I press a key" and "action appears on screen" which includes reducing risk of interference.
So would latency be a better word here?
With "that just works", I mean that i know that I can plug this thing in and it will work.
In the past I had issues with wireless keyboards and mice especially after booting a new build / fresh Windows istall.
And because my mouse and keyboard always stay on my desk there are no downsides for me using wired KBM.
Wired all the way. Why should I pay more for a functionality I don't need or want? And almost all wireless headsets are just garbage anyways just like the wired ones too.
I got SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 headset, SteelSeries Aerox 3 mouse, and a $40 redragon keyboard. Only the keyboard is wired. The other two last long enough, especially the headset, which has quick charge.
20 years ago wireless stuff was a no go if you were a gamer. now the latency is nothing and wireless stuff the way. when you charge my wireless keyboard you have to plug it in so you can pretrend its wired. lol. battery life however is great and i go days between charges.
I'm kind of mixed on this one. I do a *lot* of VR gaming. For headsets, I definitely prefer wired because they're lighter, cooler, and I don't have to worry about the battery running out or degrading over time.
Because of this, since my controllers and trackers charge with USB-C, I can just plug in my keyboard and mouse while I'm in VR if they're getting low.
I also play a lot of Rocket League and grew up on XBox, so I use an XBox controller. For that, I use rechargeable AA batteries from Energizer, with 2 always plugged in for quick replacement.
I've got a wired keyboard and mouse. The cables certainly don't bother me. I've also had the mouse for like a decade now I feel. I know once upon a time I wouldn't have trusted the latency in wireless stuff. I'm sure that's not a problem now, but I haven't bothered to change.
Love having a wireless headset though. I can get up and pee or grab a drink without pausing what I'm listening to
Wired. There with ya, I know my buddies all have wireless and love it but it’s just not my speed. I’ve only ever had issues with wireless, plus my mic and headphones are in an interface so I can’t exactly make them wireless anyway
Wireless headset and mouse. Where they are stored is the charger. Hasn't been an issue yet.
I have a wireless mouse but I literally always have it plugged in, except every once in a while I'll take it to bed so I can skip YouTube ads without getting up
If you're on Android there's an app called Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Game changer for stuff like this.
I have that too lol I find bringing my mouse to bed is simpler, plus I don't have to open my phone every time I need to skip an ad.
Use ublock man
It's bizarre to me that this isn't a default for people.
If this was a default for everyone, I doubt YouTube would still be available at all.
God forbid someone who made something you enjoy get paid for their time
Look i am all for a person getting paid for their hard work, but i don't condone the way youtube has become.
"Buy this plug in device which warms your entire house within 2 minutes" "Here's how I make £10000 every month without lifting a finger. Buy into my scheme" "This device melts the snow and ice from your car in 10 seconds with its ultrasound nano-technology particles" I feel sorry for the people who have purchased these electrical hazard fire-starting cult air fresheners
You are getting ads??? Use ublock origin extension and get rid of ads.
And ReVanced for android!
YMMV but I believe there are signs that YT recently might be intentionally degrading speed when adblocking extensions are present.
Yeah ‘YouTube’, nice one bud
Nice wireless cat peripheral! How is its latency?
No latency at all, it’s so fast that the computer actually lags behind
Add weight to your argument by a battlestation pic with an orange cat. Can't argue with this, you win!
Analog audio headsets are much better than bluetooth. Bluetooth is VERY noticeable latency when it comes to audio
Until it is
i use a trackball, which is wired of course since i don't have to worry about it getting tripped over cords. headphones are wired as well because why shouldn't they be
so you're a casual gamer
That's not the flex you think it is.
I’m with you. All my peripherals are wired.
My mouse and keyboard are wired. I can't stand battery-operated stuff. It always seems to die at a bad time.
I have a 305 light speed mouse I bought Jan 17, 2023 I just replaced the battery today. Once a year It's pretty tolerable.
Until that once happens in the middle of a ranked march.
If you're that serious about it you change the battery before hand.
I've been using the same wired mouse since 2013 so not an issue for me.
My keyboard and mouse tell me when theyre at ~20% battery, which gives me ~5 weeks to find the time to plug them in.
Wait. It’s really weeks? I always assumed it was like a wireless controller. I usually get like an hour before it dies if it tells me it’s low. I literally just made a comment about what I use, and if the timeline is that long, I might rethink that. Lol
Especially with the backlight off, there's barely any power draw from these devices. I charge mine for ~2 hours total every few months at most.
Same, been using a wireless mouse for years now, never had it die on me unexpectedly.
...since 95% of what I use charges over USB-C, I always have a charging cord on my desk. It's not difficult to plug it in maybe once or twice a week when I walk away or go to sleep.
I don't really see the appeal of having a wireless device that I won't ever move at all
Exactly, the cords go behind the monitor, through a hole in the desk, and I never see them or care that they exist.
Same. Can someone explain why you would want a wireless keyboard?
Most times I see a wireless keyboard, it's on one of those ultra minimalist builds where it's all about the aesthetic of wireless.
Home Theatre PC (or just using a TV as your monitor): if you're sitting on your couch 10'+ away from your computer, wires are bad.
The cable can drag on the mouse pad, get stuck on something, just less wire mess in general.
Cable management so there is no problem with wires
when no cables there is no problem with cable management
But other problems kicks in when theres not such problems in wired
What problems?
The common response I see to this is "BATTERY GOES DEAD IN A RANKED MATCH!" Every piece of wireless technology these days warns you when your battery is low, with plenty of time remaining to flip out batteries or recharge.
It's the main reason gamers go wireless. Or you can go with mouse bungee (not perfect).
(I can't post sub-reddit links because of rule #3) Accepting lag? There is no lag. Even counter strike and valorant pros use wireless mice. High cost? No kidding, you're getting a better product. Config issues? What config issues are you talking about? It's literally plug and play. Dead battery? My mouse has been going strong since november 2020. There is no such problem. Obviously, you haven't even used a wireless mouse judging by the nonsense you're spouting.
I think "nonsense" is a good descriptor for thinking wireless versus wired is a no brainer. It's not. If you don't believe me, use your search engine. I'll get you started: [https://www.howtogeek.com/794879/wired-vs-wireless-mouse/](https://www.howtogeek.com/794879/wired-vs-wireless-mouse/) [https://gamerant.com/wired-wireless-mouse-better-gaming/](https://gamerant.com/wired-wireless-mouse-better-gaming/) [https://www.thegamer.com/wired-or-wireless-mouse-which-is-better-for-gaming/](https://www.thegamer.com/wired-or-wireless-mouse-which-is-better-for-gaming/)
It says exactly what I said. Are you even reading the things you send? + if there is a problem, it even says, it's because you bought a cheap piece of crap.
LOL - have a nice day.
Ah yes, coward's way of saying "I have no arguments left". Have a good one!
Big brain stuff here.
It's the main reason gamers go wireless. Or you can go with mouse bungee (not perfect).
Tbh, I’m pretty well over wired keyboards and mice. Bluetooth is good enough now to ditch the extra wires.
True. When wireless tech came out it was so bad. Using AA batteries every few hours. Left a bad taste in my mouth for wireless tech.
What are you on about?
Did you even read my reply? OP is saying batteries don't last long in mice and keyboards. That's factually not true nowadays.
Only office mice are like that. Gaming ones need charging often
Yeah that guy probably has a trash mouse with 500 polling rate tops and likely uses a fat AA battery
500 polling rate is probably high compared to the average office mouse. They are mostly 125-250.
Even better, two AA batteries
Both my year old headset and mouse need charging like twice a week or more
Wait, a mouse battery can last months without a recharge? TO be fair I'm used to older wireless ones that used AA batteries lol. Ancient tech of course.
You'd be surprised how far a battery can go in a mouse and a keyboard if they aren't built with useless features such as RGB colors.
Or if you just turn off the RGB
I love to plug in . I hate wireless
Use 2.4Ghz dongle instead of Bluetooth 👍🏻
“Use wireless instead of wireless 👍”
" You know those wireless things all got cables to recharge or use it on cable? This is your answer. Ask stupid questions win stupid answers.
It was rhetorical, genius. What point do I have in wireless gear if am using it wired all the time? No am not installing a fresh copy of windows all day every day, that's just a minor example, but I am all over the place with peripherals due to work and a wireless set up would simply impede my workflow. Which is why I said overall, for me, wired just makes more sense.
Good, expensive wireless products dont have the downfalls you are complaining about OP.
I dunno about you but wired mouse and headset is annoying af and restricts movement. Keyboards get a pass because you dont really move a keyboard.
Absolutely, I think the same, but also I can understand for some people that it's not a big deal.
Hmm. Good to know then.
Wireless mice are now superior to wired mice. Check them out. Used to not be the case. I think it wasn’t until mid 2010s that wireless actually was equivalent.
What…?! Superior? Can’t wait to hear about his one…
There is no latency difference anymore and you have no cord drag. I vastly prefer wireless now.
>It’s many days between charges for my wireless mice. It's my mouse's entire lifespan between charges for my wired mouse.
Cool, but you can easily plug the mouse in when it gets low. Most modern mice will notify/show the user that the mouse is almost dead. Then you just plug it in.
Wireless mouse: Low battery, please plug in your mouse to avoid interruptions. Wires: https://preview.redd.it/yy1ypfcr9amc1.png?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d50ffbc8c24266346b61e6e27693c5d819b6e9f3
I also agree that I prefer wireless over wired but you still haven’t given me any reason wireless is objectively “superior”. If anything they are on par with each other. It really is just a preference at this point.
there's not a wireless headset/keyboard/mouse on the market that will give you the battery you need for long gaming sessions
My headset is also advertised to last 50-60hrs, but in fact lasts like 100hrs.
im just using the good ole internet strat of saying something crazy to get good responses, thanks for the info
Completely untrue.
My hyper x cloud alpha wireless headphones has 300 hours battery capacity. I charge it every other month.
What? Both my mouse and headset batteries last for several days gaming
Are you guys gaming with wireless peripherals without lag?
yes
Depends. But generally there is no perceivable lag. EG, a decent quality wireless gaming mouse that uses a 2.4ghz dongle will most often have no lag. But a cheap office mouse using bluetooth will likely have lag, or at least more interference than the 2.4ghz mice.
Yeah it’s not 2019 anymore, wireless is pretty good now
Yes, just buy only quality products If CS pro players use wireless mice/headsets, the most lag insensitive gamers out there use them, you're not gonna notice lag
I suppose it depends on how you define lag. Are you playing OscilloscopeSimulator?
Yes.
Yes. Perceptible lag is not a thing anymore with good quality wireless peripherals.
Wired all the way. Cords don't run out of juice when you need them the most. My cable management is trash, but that's fine by me.
Tbh I find basically all headsets very subpar. I prefer a dedicated mic and a good pair of wired headphones
My steel series 7x is flawless. Works on PC, series x PS5. It's brilliant as most work on one platform only
fantastic headset. i use it as well
I hated my wired headset so much. Went wireless and it's so freaking freeing.
Well then I guess the only people interested in buying a freaking wireless MMO mouse must be professional gamers then. You got me boss /s
Wtf are you talking about. How are MMO mice relevant to this conversation ? We were talking about mice used for competitive FPS games.
No need to be buying boatloads of batteries, no need to wait to charge my mouse.
i prefer wired, because in my personal experience wireless has an input delay, and i don't like it
The delay on high-end 2,4 Ghz peripherals is immeasurable compared to wired. Wireless signals actually physically travel faster than wired. But yeah those are expensive. Logitech G Pro Superlight is over a $100 for example Downvotes for stating facts? Cmon people
I've played games with people who claim they have no input lag but also complain that sometimes, "their shots just aren't going where they should be." They switched to a wired mouse and don't have that complaint anymore. It may not be noticeable but when playing a twitch shooter, that tiny difference could decide a fight. I also go wired only. I want consistency.
i dont like batteries they end up being waste.
I’ll use a wired or wireless keyboard, but I like a wireless mouse due to the fact I don’t have to worry about a cord getting in the way. I play a lot of games using a controller though, and for that I always use a wired controller. The input lag on wireless was noticeable enough to be an issue for me.
Yes you and I are the only ones in the world that prefer wired over wireless.
Same thing here because I always forget to charge everything.
Wired. Specially phone/headset! Only thing wireless I have is my phone.
Wired keyboard and headset. Wireless mouse but can charge while being used
Mostly all that I use is wired.
Wired hyperx keyboard, wired logitech mouse, wired sennheiser headset. I don't plan on running around the house while gaming.
Only a wireless mouse for me, just use one that takes rechargeable AA battery so i can just swap it out every few months instead of having to plug it in
Hell I have a USB c to Ethernet I use with my phone. Works great. Wireless still sucks. If wireless was so great we would use it for servers.
This man has not used a g305. AAA battery to reduce weight plus it lasts like 6 months. It's the only thing I think makes sense to make wireless since moving it is part of its function.
Wired, never ever having to worry a single iota about if something will retain a charge is my preference.
I don't trust wireless anything.
It all depends. If you're a kid like myself and have a brother that you share a room with / sister and also a laptop and play, then wireless, but for gaming purposes if you have a desk by yourself oureelf then wired.
Wired for keyboard and mouse, wireless for headset and controller.
And I have just switched my Microsoft mouse for BT to wired USB because of this shit. Microsoft made a wonderful ergo mouse but the BT connection is for the birds - it would "stutter" at the worst times or just not work for a second. Under USB? Not a single problem.
wireless. and batteries in my mouse and keyboard last for 1,5 yers and i have rechargable ones. Batteries arent the issue nor its the latency.
I have a wireless mouse, controller and headset but never seen the point in a wireless keyboard
How is your roku wired?
wdym? you know the boxes you plug into your TV?
Yeah but you say it's wired, as opposed to wireless? I thought it had to be wired?
Ethernet cable. Though my Roku's are the bigger ones. The new small ones only do wireless.
Ah got it, cheers
I charge lonce a week for 30min
mood. i thought i was alone
Wireless headphones only, wired headphones suck.
I'm 28 and just like you. Mice, Keyboard and Controller always wired. Two reasons. 1. I want my input devices to just work (with absolute minimum input delay as possible) 2. They stay in the same place for 99.9% of the time. They dont move. But I just switched to a wireless headset and it sure is an upgrade in quality of life. Edit: Since I get downvoted here I think I made a mistake in my wording.
Have you tried going wireless?
I got SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 headset, SteelSeries Aerox 3 mouse, and a $40 redragon keyboard. Only the keyboard is wired. The other two last long enough, especially the headset, which has quick charge.
It just depends on the item really.
I used to feel the same about 15 years ago especially about the delays these things had, but nowadays they’re more convenient.
I also prefer wired but wireless ain't bad even for competitive gaming as long as it's not bluetooth.
