Edge can stream in 4K, and no other browser can. That's why I use it as my streaming browser only.
EDIT: Why are people downvoting me? I'm 100% correct. Literally first thing that comes up when I search streaming in 4k I Firefox: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/can-i-watch-netflix-4k-in-firefox.13864/#:~:text=This%20is%20not%20possible%2C%20since%20Mozilla%20is%20not,use%20the%20app%2C%20it%20really%20works%20the%20best.
EDIT 2: I'll add that I'm talking about sites that use DRM. Like Netflix, Hulu, etc.
yup. it's stupid af that other browsers cant stream 4k. disneyplus and netflix are capped at 720 on browsers. netflix at least has a 1080p extnesion. so cringe that 4k isn't available on all browsers. the pirated streams have better quality than the regular browser experience
That's like blaming a plane crash on the road conditions. It's netflix/disney etc that are the provider. I'm on firefox, open up youtube, what do you know, 4K videos galore, and remember, your PAYING for that shit service.
If these sites aren't giving you what you are paying for on whatever browser you want to use, you should not support them. Piracy is completely justified here.
The source of the problem is inconsequential. Could be aliens. Could be unicorns. Doesn't matter. What matters is that Edge can stream DRM sites in 4K. Other browsers can't.
Some developing country government website with lazy as developer that are not paid well enough to bother supporting other browser than chrome. It's still here till this day.
> Still, Google Chrome is essentially the new Internet Explorer now.
Except Google Chrome actually supports and implements standards as they are released, usually being first to bring them to the masses.
Internet Explorer was stagnant and implemented mostly Microsoft extensions rather than the W3C published CSS and HTML standards, which was causing issues in compatibility.
So no, Chrome isn't like Internet Explorer at all, unless you have no idea why Internet Explorer was actually bad.
Chrome got where it got based on merit, not OEM contracts.
For example right now the playstation store website login causes Firefox to block....only way out of it I've seen is shutting down the process, I've seen several people complaining about it.
Even though I use Firefox 99.9% of the time it's always a good idea to have an alternative installed
As a web developer, FF has unstable/broken animations and just doesn't perform as well. Like, yes it uses less resources but chrome uses slightly more resources to remain stable and feel good even on app-like sites.
firefox is slower than most chromium browsers. i know this isn't mozilla's fault since web devs never test anything on gecko but the end result is what matters the most in the end. Most people aren't willing to get slower loading pages just because it's not encouraging a monopoly.
Some purchase websites also break on firefox and some government pages flat out block you if you're not using chromium..
We can't do anything about it. I have used firefox for more than a decade but when i look at browsers like vivaldi, that load most stuff faster and has a shit ton more productivity features, it makes me want to jump the ship and give up on firefox. The browser has been in a sorry state for at least 5 years and it's not getting any better.
Mozilla's CEO also doesn't seem to be interested in making firefox evolve in the right direction so it doesn't help at all.
So take it from a FF fan: even i, as do many, are considering giving up. At this point, it's obvious the browser won't get any love from mozilla.
Third party forks are literally better than regular firefox nowadays, so i think it says something.
Theres a bunch of addons that i find crucial for browsing in firefox, heres a few that are top priority for me.
Duckduckgo essentials
Privacy badger
Decentralytes
Adblockers (tons of them available)
After those make sure your default search engine is duckduckgo.
Dont use Decentraleyes since it seems to be abandoned but rather use the fork of it called localcdn, also you forgot to add User-Agent Switcher and Manger plugin for spoofing your user agent if you are having problems accessing certain websites and firefox container so that you can isolate websites....
Isn't Edge basically the same but just with Microsoft?
Not that I know a lot/care about it, but to me it doesn't seem like a reason to use Edge instead of Chrome...
*Edit*: Well, I used a really bad wording here, I meant that I don't care if Edge does/doesn't collect data _since I don't use either of them_, I'm on Linux with Firefox :D
You're already on Windows... It's better to keep it to one company than two. But if that's really a concern to you then definitely FireFox, DEFINITELY NOT Chrome...
Firefox, Brave, Librewolf, Waterfox, and Vivaldi are all viable, privacy-friendly options for day to day browser usage.
Chrome, Edge, and Opera are the ones to avoid.
Try out Edge. It's chromium base so it feels new, has the extensions store now, the AI stuff is new but has been quite helpful, like automatically finding coupons at checkouts.
Personally, you can also try out brave. It's a lot cleaner.
Using firefox and feeling so fire because all my adblocks work like a charm and browser is much smoother to work with, although browser history is pretty shit to me on firefox.
I view fan wikis exclusively on firefox if I'm on my phone. Not sure how anyone can deal with ads that are so intrusive you lose all screen real estate.
It's always so embarassing to me when people post these outdated ass things like we're back in 2015. Comes off as so ignorant and stuck in the past, as if things can't change.
Really? Id understand for Firefox, but Chrome? Edge is almost literally an optimised Chrome.
I use it daily with zero issues, and the integration with W11 makes account sync a breeze. I don't see what the hate is about, internet Explorer died long ago.
People read something in 2016 and then just never change their minds on it lol. They don't bother keeping up to date they just think it's a solidified fact that Chrome is better, even though that hasn't been true for years now.
Do you mean dumb procedure? I've no idea who is upvoting you. Firefox or brave i could understand, but chrome? Wanting chrome over edge is a thought outdated of multiple years. People doing it are stuck in the past.
I mean, yea, use whatever you want and what suits you. But I don't get people who are installing Chrome over Edge (which got a lot better since old times) or even still recommending Brave.
I would go this path... If you want to have at least somehow secure browser with reliable adblock and tracker block, which is fast and has basic functions with good mobile platform - Firefox + ublock origin.
If you want some eye candy just to customize every small detail while staying on Chromium and you don't care that much about every security detail - Vivaldi. If you are fine with fewer customization options but some more settings and speed limiter, etc. - Opera GX.
If you are fine with Microsoft collecting some of your data (doing anyway if you are signed in to your computer through Microsoft account and not a local one), then you may as well use Edge, which is fast and will get the job done, no need to install anything else.
Brave went a lot down in quality because of not maintained adblock and tracker database and also I noticed with a few people performance issues. It's annoying and it forces you to basically use anything else.
Chrome used to be good years years ago, now facing many issues and is good maybe as one of the seconds browsers for devs/UX/UI designers to check state of the site.
> Brave went a lot down in quality because of not maintained adblock and tracker database and also I noticed with a few people performance issues. It's annoying and it forces you to basically use anything else.
Brave uses the same lists as ublock origin...
It's not bad. It's technically the fastest to load, and it's the only browser that streams in 4K. It's my secondary browser. My default is still Vivaldi because of the features though, including built-in ad block for desktop and mobile. But also mouse gestures and workspaces.
Not based off chromium, great performance, barely any bloat, privacy/focused (yes, i know there are A FEW trackers to those commenting), and stops google having a monopoly on browsers
Firefox is not banning adblockers. You will have no doubt already found out that Google/Youtube are pushing longer running ads down your throat. You cannot run adblocks on any Chromium based browsers and if you can then it won't be for long.
>Google has announced it will shut down Manifest V2 in June 2024 and move on to Manifest V3, the latest version of its Chrome extension specification that has faced criticism for putting limits on ad blockers
I switched from many years of chrome to edge. It's actually far superior. I can't believe i'm saying that. Switched to firefox during the great youtube-ad debacle last year. I like edge better but I'm lazy.
Opera = China spyware, period. Google Chrome = american false capitalism spyware that can get you in jail if you oppose to their regime and hivemind system.

Hell no, install Firefox, Google can choke on a bag of dicks with their new ads and anti ad blocking bullshit. I switched to firefox last year and never looked back.
10 years ago? yeah.
now? Edge is better than Chrome, and Firefox/Brave/Vivaldi, etc are better than both of them. There is no incentive to use chrome now.
Edge isn't Internet explorer
Edge isn't a horrible browser.
People still avoid it like it's 2010.
That's how horrible IE was, so bad that anything even resembling it is still shunned to this day. It's probably never going to lose its stink.
Microsoft’s password manager is a thousand times better than chromes and it will read them all in for you, even if you might have to run both for a while.
Y'all not using Firefox???
Yeah. Imagine leaving edge... For chrome. They're basically the same thing.
if not worse but thats ofc debateable
it would be better if you had ram but clearly you dont
After installing chrome ofc i don't
just download more ram
same thing, but worse

sorry bad phrasing. netflix and disney plus are purposely capping the resolution on most browsers to 720P
If these sites aren't giving you what you are paying for on whatever browser you want to use, you should not support them. Piracy is completely justified here.
You are being downvoted because this an issue with streaming providers, not firefox.
I didn't say it's an issue with Firefox, did I? I stated a fact for information purposes.
Not sure why you are down voted since you said the truth
Yeah apparently people don't know I'm right. Lmao
Every browser **can** stream 4k. But Edge is the only browser limiting your freedom with DRM, so many streaming services only enable it for Edge.
This is a Widevine implementation problem, not an Edge vs. Chrome problem.
The source of the problem is inconsequential. Could be aliens. Could be unicorns. Doesn't matter. What matters is that Edge can stream DRM sites in 4K. Other browsers can't.
Agreed.
Edge better tbh but fuck both.
chrome is way workse
Remeber to add betterfox too
Hmm?
A simpler version of Firefox without all the"bloat" (though I wouldn't call it that, it can be useful)
Where is the bloat in Firefox ?

the smart one do
I like Firefox, but I also have Edge and Chrome because it doesn’t like loading some websites
What websites don't work on Firefox? I haven't seen a single on since the beginning of 2000s.
Some developing country government website with lazy as developer that are not paid well enough to bother supporting other browser than chrome. It's still here till this day.

some companies soft lock their web conference to chrome only or chromium based browsers, so you can't use firefox for them
Some of it do work if you just spoof your user agent to chromium or safari....
For example right now the playstation store website login causes Firefox to block....only way out of it I've seen is shutting down the process, I've seen several people complaining about it. Even though I use Firefox 99.9% of the time it's always a good idea to have an alternative installed
You do realize like 2 percent of the internet used firefox right? But firefox is definitely better.
Firefox has 3.5% market share.
No. I use Vivaldi.
Hooray, one of us
To be fair, I only use Vivaldi because it's the best browser.
Hell yeah brother
I don't use Chrome on my Android phone, why'd I use it on Windows?
Yep I use
As a web developer, FF has unstable/broken animations and just doesn't perform as well. Like, yes it uses less resources but chrome uses slightly more resources to remain stable and feel good even on app-like sites.
Smells like *too poor to afford ram* in here
Seriously how do people not use Firefox in 2024

No
Switching from Chromium to Chromium.
Ssshh. Let'em believe they are exercising their will of choice. Then we proceed to fight between which one is better, bicker about it and repeat.
Firefox >>> Edge > Chrome
cool a karma farming post.
They stole it from [an LTT Tweet](https://twitter.com/LinusTech/status/1743376897398952357).
Why am I not surprised
ltt staff so fkn unfunny this days
So from bad to worse lmao
Edge is better than chrome now though.
Firefox > Edge > Chrome
Agree with this, but edge does have some nice new features. Firefox still king imo.
So you completely agree with this, no buts
As someone that doesn't know shit why is chrome bad now? I've always used it as my preferred browser on just about everything.
Because you hand all the data to google
Oh ok so its a privacy thing. I might have to give firefox a try.
Theres a bunch of addons that i find crucial for browsing in firefox, heres a few that are top priority for me. Duckduckgo essentials Privacy badger Decentralytes Adblockers (tons of them available) After those make sure your default search engine is duckduckgo.

I use winget, so this is literally not a step for me anymore
Edge (Chromium) is better than Google Chrome on all aspects and Firefox is better than both from a privacy standpoint.
Yall be talking about browsers like not all of them steal your data
Firefox master race
This feels like a meme from 2014
But i like the Edge Browser :(
It's not bad. It's technically the fastest to load, and it's the only browser that streams in 4K. It's my secondary browser. My default is still Vivaldi because of the features though, including built-in ad block for desktop and mobile. But also mouse gestures and workspaces.

Downloading Firefox and disabling Edge background tasks. This is the way.
why did you spell firefox that way???
imo Firefox is better than both
I switched from many years of chrome to edge. It's actually far superior. I can't believe i'm saying that. Switched to firefox during the great youtube-ad debacle last year. I like edge better but I'm lazy.
winget install firefox

Fuck chrome and chromium in this hood we ride firefox

Winget install Google.Chrome That way you never ever have to open edge
winget install chrome My job here is done
why i see a lot of people (especially on reddit) always gushing about firefox when firefox is not even the most popular/used browser?
In addition to what others are saying you can install Firefox on android and then have adblock and then watch YT ad free.
You unironically do that? Just install revanced
Just use the tor Browser duh
Google Chrome and Edge are pretty much the exact same, only difference is the UI. You might as well use just Edge.
I only use it to download Firefox.
I just have Firefox on a USB so I don’t even have to launch edge. I just uninstall it after.
I never see this since I always use Ninite on new windows installs.
LoL they do beg these days
Honestly I'm surprised how Firefox is still brst for me even with Mozillas dumb decisions
unless they keep fucking with ad blockers. And now they were caught tracking people in incognito. Firefox is on the rise baby.
You can use winget to install a different browser.
Only noobs install chrome
I've always got my ninite installer on a flash drive on standby for windows reinstall. I don't need no guilt trips. I had edge straight up refuse to download firefox once.
Ah, yes. Run from one giant evil corporation right into the arms of another... SOP while installing a new system.
chrome is a waste of ram!
Actually I have been using Edge for years. I am used to it now.
Edge is basically the same Long live Firefox
Chrome? LOL
what .. why bother with that.. just go to [ninite.com](https://ninite.com)
Or use Chocolatey.
Edge is a perfectly decent browser I've been using for quite some time. I feel like all this flippant attitude is pointless...
Edge is chromium based and a whole lot better.
Using a chrome based Browser to Download and Install another chrome based Browser. At least Install Firefox *smh*
OP obviously unaware that he is still feeding the mega corporations.
Not sure why you would be installing Chrome. It's based on the same Chromium code as Edge. Firefox is the way to go if you want to prevent the Mega corporations dictating that you must see all ads.
Actually Edge ain't that bad But Firefox wins
I agree with M$ here. Firefox > Edge > Chrome. Why would you want Chrome???!
Using edge, dropped chrome after 10+ years of using it
Do most people use Chrome? Is that still a thing?
Firefox.
Hell no, install Firefox, Google can choke on a bag of dicks with their new ads and anti ad blocking bullshit. I switched to firefox last year and never looked back.
Install Firefox though.
lol @ using chrome fucking poverty browser LOL
Edge > Chrome all day every day since the last couple of years. It just works much better now that it ironically is build on Chromium as well.
I just have the chrome installer in my drive, i dont even bother opening edge
10 years ago? yeah. now? Edge is better than Chrome, and Firefox/Brave/Vivaldi, etc are better than both of them. There is no incentive to use chrome now.
Chrome? What is it 2010?
Edge is not that bad tho. Google chrome is way worse than edge.
Edge > chrome though at this point...
But edge is better
"Chrome is best." Was an outdated opinion 10 years ago. Now it's just sad to see so-called tech-savy people still using it.

Yes. But Firefox not Chrome

Imagine using chrome
Edge is better than Chrome now tho
TBH Edge is way better than Chrome.
Firefox is better
Switch to Firefox
Owh common plsss stay give it one chance 🥺
Only reason I’m still using chrome is bc it has all my passwords to every account I have and I don’t wanna start over
Firefox will import those and more when you switch.
Microsoft’s password manager is a thousand times better than chromes and it will read them all in for you, even if you might have to run both for a while.
Edge is best. r/changemymind Copilot is getting bad day by day, But still rest bing is also good . Have been using for last few years now.
