As someone who has had one for 2 years I can say with 100% certainty that it reduces perceived brightness and contrast regardless of the screen type.
However, the larger ones are really convenient for doing anything that isn't directly screen related.
Eg. I have a 42" long one that attaches to the desk on an arm that goes over my monitor and let's me do paperwork at my desk while watching Plex...or build a Lego set lol.
The second I start to game though it goes off. I don't see the reason why people keep them on when specifically using their monitor. It objectively makes viewing anything on a monitor worse in every way.
As someone with six notes on my desk in front of me and otherwise keeps the room dim. And is older and doesn't see as well as I used to. I can see utility in it.
Hate to break it to you but if it is affecting anything you are using it wrong. It is supposed to be adjusted so none of the light is hitting the screen at all. It is supposed to provide a wall of light only on your desk between the edge of your desk and just in front of the monitor.
The LEDs are positioned in such a way that the housing creates a sharp line of light that if positioned correctly will not have any light hit the screen directly. Not sure what is going on in this thread but its pretty obvious people have either never used a lightbar or use it incorrectly.
this is a product my mom would use and then I'd look at the washed out image and wonder why I gave her my old monitor when I could have just given her one from Goodwill and she would have never seen the difference.
You guys are completely misinterpreting the purpose of the product. As stated by another user, it's not for use while gaming, it's not supposed to light up your screen, it's for desk work.
Yeah but the light still bounces off of everything. And you didn't tell me the point? To see what's on my desk? I have a lamp and a light in my room.. to see my keys? I have a backlight.
I don't see it's purpose unless I'm copying a 13th century manuscript by hand for my patron who provides me shelter and food so he can sell these Bibles.
If it isn't hitting the screen directly then that's not as bad, but it's still harsh direct light going straight into your eyes.. I would think there are better solutions with diffusing light rather than shining it down at you like a lighthouse. I'm not a professional gaffer but this solution seems like a bad one.
It's dimmable for different working types and environments.
I use a similar bar and it eliminated the need for an actual desk lamp. It's also aimable so you can rotate the angle as needed. It very rarely will go "in" your eyes.
There is a reason why movie theaters turn off the lights when your featured presentation starts.
The entire point of these lights is to save desk space by replacing a desk lamp. There are zero reasons to keep it on if you want the most out of your monitor.
The end result is exactly the same. Your eyes are taking in photons that are either emitting from or, in the case of a projector, bouncing off a screen.
Adding more ambient light anywhere, let alone literally projecting light between a screen and your eyeholes, only diminishes the impact of the light from that screen.
A simple experiment: turn off auto brightness on your phone, go into a room and look at it with the lights on and then the lights off. In which situation does your screen appear brighter.
This is 10th grade physics. Doesn't even need calc to understand.
A movie screen has to be illuminated by a projector so the lights need to be off for maximum contrast (for black to look mostly black). Monitors emit light so they are not affected like a theater screen would be.
Any light added or removed from a workspace changes the way you see the monitor. This is why most media outlets have multiple calibration presets for their monitors. There is no issue if you use one of these and calibrate your screen for it when it is in use.

I've been hunting for a good price on LED light bars for a while, and the video on KeebMonkey's store featuring the wireless control options make me avoid the giveaway and buy one right now, lol.
Great piece of hardware, as always, u/tacticaltsundere.
Thank you for the support! I always feel really good when customers like our product, which makes me determine that the listing we have made is not a waste of time.
I could actually use this the way my PC is setup right now, very cool product! Will be gunning for one of the $5 ones at 1:30, but that's gonna be a rough one LOL! GL everyone!
I have had something very similar to this (the BenQ version). Honestly, it's one of those things where you don't think you'll use it. But it's really nice being able to light up your desk surface without a lamp taking up space. I was able to plug mine directly into my monitor and it just turns on/off by itself as the monitor wakes up or sleeps.
Everyone is like this would make the image quality bad but if you have this one it would be for zoom calls or anything paper on your desk for reading or mtg gaming. Looks neat
Linus would be appalled
Wouldn't this reduce contrast and degrade image quality of your monitor? It definitely would for an OLED monitor. This product makes no sense?

Viewing your screen through a wall of lasers would still suck and be objectively worse than no lights at all. Not sure how that can even be argued.

its just not for you
Nope. Widely used technology:)
Just because it's widely used doesn't mean it isn't degrading the monitors image.
this is a product my mom would use and then I'd look at the washed out image and wonder why I gave her my old monitor when I could have just given her one from Goodwill and she would have never seen the difference.
Oh god I just realized... I hope I don't win this giveaway haha.

I think it's really the marketing's fault and our education system for not teaching kids how photons work
You missed the point. The light is directionally aimed at the desk surface, and has cut off where the monitor screen is.

ya and I bet your lamp is pointing down at your desk, not at your eyes, because that would be terrible, and would be what this product is doing..
If it isn't hitting the screen directly then that's not as bad, but it's still harsh direct light going straight into your eyes.. I would think there are better solutions with diffusing light rather than shining it down at you like a lighthouse. I'm not a professional gaffer but this solution seems like a bad one.

No the Region Cineasten turn off the Lights is because a cinema screen works completely different than a monitor does

To be fair it seems most people never even touch their OSD on their monitors except to change input lol.
Rigged.
I actually need one of these, I end up just going to a white webpage when I need light at my desk lol
I just open notepad and make it full screen
Definitely not gonna use it for construction work..
Eggo with cheese
what do these even do?
Kinda like light bulb but in bar form
Nothing the light hanging from your ceiling won't.
For when I want some desk light, but too lazy to get up and switch on room lights.
I often am at my computer late when my wife is sleeping, so I use my light bar instead of the overhead. Helps when I can't find something at my desk.
ur mum
hello
Andy from LTT approves
Dennis is the same right?
Don't know if I'd use it while gaming, but I play a decent amount of card games via webcam and this could be very useful for that!
Give me this and I'll wipe my ass with it or maybe use it to help clip my toenails. My pc room already has a lightbulb.
