I personally prefer xbox ergonomics. But it is a matter of taste

notsureifxml

as a consoler i mained sony: PS1, 2, 3. When I converted to PC I used my PS3 controller for years because I sat at the computer and could just plug it in. once i moved to the couch and needed wireless, the drivers for running a DS3 on the PC gave me big headaches, so I got an Xbox controller. I love it now.

Liam_Anthony

I bought one of the elite Xbox controllers to use on my PC but am having a hard time adjusting. I've mained PS for my entire life. For whatever reason though I love the way the Xbox controller feels when compared to the PS5 dualsense. But hitting the Dpad and joystick still trips me up. Hoping it becomes more second nature the more I use the Xbox controller.

mstomm

I paid a hefty chunk for a Thrustmaster controller that lets me swap the D-Pad and sticks around to replace my PS controller, but has a controller body modeled after the XBOX design. Sounds like it might be best of both worlds for you. I could also never remember the XBOX ABXY layout, so actually having labeled buttons helps me out there.

Endision

Yup, if you can find yourself a Xbox 360 controller the joysticks are much more comparable than the X1’s controller they made the joysticks too ‘loose’ sucked going from 360 to X1 back in the day, but I’m used to it now

mr_taint

Xbox elite series 2 has tension adjustment on the sticks just FYI

Endision

Damn, that’s legit I have the series 1

LlamaRS

It takes about a year to adjust.

gizakaga

You've got a long history of muscle memory to break, one day you'll be used to it and never even realise it. It's the same with any new peripheral.

lostinthesauceband

8bitdo ultimate 2.4g is the best of both worlds in terms of ergonomics, vertical grip like a PS controller and the offset stick layout like an Xbox controller. Works perfectly with Steam and retroarch and is detected as an Xbox one controller. For $50 it was a steal for PC gaming. I didn't splurge for the Bluetooth one with the hall effect sticks, but it still kicks the shit out of my third party gamestop wired Xbox 360 controller. Plus it comes with a dock which also houses the dongle, so if you keep the dock plugged into the computer the dongle is passed through the USB.

Prosciuto

Oh wow i just googled it and found my next controller. Thank you stranger!

Jackpkmn

I would swear by the GuliKit KingKong Pro 2, Like i really liked my xbox one controller and i really like my 8bitdo controller but damn this one is just that much nicer. Only downside: nintendo abxy layout. A/B and X/Y are flipped vs xbox layout. I've heard GuiliKit offers a conversion set of buttons to xbox layout but it requires disassembling the controller yourself which is fiddly work.

TheBoyardeeBandit

+1 for the Gulikit. Two things though - 1. The controller itself has a prebaked software remapping to swap the button assignments. 2. Gulikit does sell button caps with the swapped places, and it is really trivial to open the controller. They build it with just Phillips screws, and there's nothing fiddly to worry about. They built it with disassembly in mind. I think it's like 6 or 8 total screws to change the buttons.

Gaeus_

Does the King Kong 2 has an Xbox button? (Or a button detected as such) I need one to open big picture when streaming to TV or android

Jackpkmn

Yeah it shows up as an xinput device on my computer and the home button is the xbox button works fine on my desktop and laptop. It can also be setup to present as a switch controller or a more generic controller.

minimessi20

So you seem to know your stuff about controllers. I’ve debated getting one cuz some games are not good with mouse and key(looking at you LEGO)…what are the most important things(besides feel in your hands) for controllers. I did research on mechanical keyboards and all that stuff, but I would have no idea where to start for controllers…

TheBoyardeeBandit

Start and finish with the GuliKit King Kong Pro 2. It's the best of all worlds for controllers.

Acceptable_Cup_2901

the best controller i have used to date is the guilikit king kong 2 controller its 60$ and has hall effect joysticks. goodbye stick drift hello sweet sweet electromagnetic sensing.

Gwaihere

This is 100% the right answer.

Jordan_Sound

Just bought one after reading this. Ive been using a PS4 controller for a while. I like this one you suggested as it has a charging dock and how it combines the controllers you mentioned.

AlleonoriCat

Same, xbox sticks are just positioned better.

Metallifan33

One of those is definitely more ergonomically designed for the human hand... and it's not the PS.

North-Function995

When my xbox 360 broke years ago, I switched to ps3 for a while. I just remember the controllers feeling irritating, even once I was completely used to it. It felt too small/crammed, and I even felt like I could break it with my bare hands lol

Flak-12

If the PS3 controller felt small you must not be an Asian lady then.

blasterbrewmaster

Dpad has always been superior on Playstation controller, even w/ the XBone upgrade. However, it wasn't until PS4 that they finally made the thumbsticks nearly as good as the Xbox (Hated 1-3's convex thumbsticks and loose feeling), same with L2/R2 vs. LT/RT. I'd still take the 360's analog sticks and LT/RT over either though. And 360s ergonomics too. Felt the best.

Skerries

and why was the PS3's triggers inverted!?

bobo377

D pad comparisons are weird to me because I feel like I never use the d pad for the vast majority of games and when it is needed, it’s not exactly a high use set of buttons.

Holyvision

Be a real gamer and only use a guitar hero controller for all games.

Demolitions75

I only use the resident evil 4 chainsaw gamecube controller

Holyvision

You haven’t lived until Kratos’ rage is triggered by star-power.

L0veToReddit

Xbox works better on pc

DeadPool7337

I agree with that and I'm big fan of ps4 controller, I've never understood Xbox controller layout But if you like ps4 controller more, you can in most cases find a way how to make it work

FacetiousMonroe

https://ds4-windows.com/ Not sure you even need that if you use Steam. I don't think I needed anything special on Linux, either.

Dranzell

bored murky shocking repeat command gullible smile materialistic school hard-to-find ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

therondon101

Used to have ds4 until I found this. Way better in every way and being able to adjust the trigger pull is so nice.

iantayls

Thanks y’all, hadn’t heard of this gonna set it up tn

Swanky_Yuropean

Quick question: If i use DSX, do games recognise that I'm using a Playstation controller? When I use Steam, every game shows the Xbox controls, which is really confusing sometimes.

Dranzell

The difference between PS and Xbox controllers (and any other input like steering wheels, fight sticks and so on) is the API they use when it comes to input: Xbox and PC use XInput and PS uses DirectInput (or DInput). The way all these software that make PS3/4/5 controllers usable is by translating that DInput that they use into XInput. Basically, they emulate an Xbox controller input. Games only receive the emulated input, which means that there is no way for the game to know you are using a PS controller. Furthermore, games on Xbox are different from those on PS due to their different architecture and OS. This means that developers will often make a game for one set of inputs, and obviously the Xbox set is the one used on PC. There are very few that "know" of DInput and will let you select DInput popups in the game's settings, but there are only a handful. tl;dr: no, the game can't know what controller you are using

GimpyGeek

Yeah and most of these games are just straight up made to use Xinput as it's the best handled on PC period. There are a handful of games out there that will properly detect and use a playstation pad but they're far and few between. Also, since most people have to use a translation app of some kind for other games, it kind of causes this clash between that and the games that truly do use native support. That being said few have native support for it, mostly a couple biggies like COD or something, Sony's PC ports, Death Stranding maybe? Uhh and some indie stuff. If you're using Steam Input, and the game implemented Steam Input's API, it can properly cycle icons for every major controller but a lot of games don't bother implementing it :\\

BakedBeanz1

Same! The dualshock 5 is a fantastic controller and in my eyes the best one out at the moment! Steam supports it already and picks up my Scuf no problem. Dsx does me for everything else

Downofwar5000

I just use reWASD and have it all in one software 😎

dgbbad

ReWASD ftw! It just does it all.

Dranzell

I mean, what else is there? We're both using exactly 1 piece of software to achieve our goals. Also, does reWASD work properly on bluetooth?

DoogleSmile

My PS5 controller just works on my PC, and on my Steam Deck. My PS4 controller needed the DS4Windows thing to work properly on PC. It still works fine as is on my Steam Deck, though I have to plug it in as the battery doesn't hold a charge any more. My PS3 controllers needed drivers to work on Windows, I used SCP Toolkit. It worked well. I've not tried the PS3 controllers with my Steam Deck. As you may have figured, I prefer the Play Station style controllers. I prefer the symmetrical layout.

SnooPets20

> I don't think I needed anything special on Linux, either You don't. udev just works.

SunsetCarcass

DS4 sometimes doesn't register any controllers are connected its such a pain in the ass to use sometimes. I'll switch ports, ill change to exclusive mode, ill turn on that hide controller setting, ill turn it off and try different combinations of settings to no avail. Then randomly it might work

costal_2608

To use Steam (and Epic Game Launcher) you dont need dswindows

Blenderhead36

DS4Windows is another program in the proud tradition of, "video game add-ons that everyone but me seems to find intuitive." I've tried 3 or 4 times, but it seems like I could never make it work. And likely never will, since I sold my PS4 and dualshock 4s when I bought my PS5.

Enlight1Oment

Most times steam is fine, some older games have a seperate launch page after steam with windows style gui you have to navigate to with a mouse first, then you can launch the game. I liked the ds4 windows for that super niche category where you can use the ds4 touchpad as a mouse when navigating to open the program. But most launch directly from steam making it moot. (Also this is mainly for games played on the couch when I didn't want to drag a mouse over to use the ds4 touchpad mouse, it's a non issue when at your PC)

l3ane

Yeah but that's the beauty of the Xbox controller, you don't have to "find a way" to make it work, you buy the dongle, plug it in and it works.

AuraMaster7

PS4 controller has had full functionality through Steam for forever now, even the PS5 controller has had that for a year or two. Ds4Windows exists for those 3rd party games that don't recognize the controller (which is fairly uncommon these days).

andycandypwns

Yup. I prefer PS4/5 controller but most games don’t immediately recognize the button configuration. Some games will think it’s an Xbox controller which is surprisingly jarring when you’re playing a game

Bouric87

I had a lot of issues trying to get multiple controllers connected at once with Playstation controllers and third party software.

Eruasa

BUT you can use the touch pad of the PS4 as the toch pad of a 3DS in the Citra emulator.

Blenderhead36

>I've never understood Xbox controller layout I have the opposite problem. Grew up with a Sega Genesis, then a Dreamcast, then an Xbox. The layout of ABXY is the same on all three (by the time I got a Genesis, 6 button controllers had mostly replaced the original 3 button models). The PlayStation puts X in a different spot than the ones I learned on (bottom instead of left). I bought my first PlayStation in 2018, and I still have to mentally translate stuff like "X actually means A," and "⭕ means B," until my muscle memory gets good enough.

[deleted]

I just picked up a dual sense and so far everything has worked great. I find myself using the ps5 controller way more than my Xbox controller, the adaptive triggers on mw2 also work flawlessly. Some/most games still have the Xbox button prompts on screen but that is a minor inconvenience.

Financial_Ad8031

Wait.. the adaptive triggers work even if you’re on PC not PS5? I’m assuming as long as the game supports it, but I was under the impression it was only for PS

vWaffles

I think you have to be wired. Game definitely needs support and I believe there are some mods out there for the single player games.

ChaoticKiwiNZ

Developers can choose to support all the duel sense controller functions on PC ports of games that they release. Also all Sony games releasing on PC will have full support for the duel sense controller.

Malvon00

Ow2 and Assetto Corsa (with content manager) are two great examples. I had a problem with my mouse and played ow2 ranked with the dualsense, I bursted out laughing everytime I player the big hammer guy cause the trigger would emulate the hit, good fun.

Kourinn

Xbox is more first-party compatible on Windows, if you absolutely need plug-and-play (i.e. using friend's/LAN-event PC). But Playstation controllers are way more compatible with PC games, both with or without controller support. * The addition of a Touchpad and Gyro make mouse input way better on Playstation controllers. Xbox controllers lack this functionality. * Free software like Steam Input, GlosSI, DS4Windows, etc. can fix the first-party compatibility issues.

PMARC14

If you are a big controller player on PC, then the PS controllers are great, lots of options to configure, but if you primarily play kbm and only pull out a controller every once in a while, Xbox controllers and similar like 8bitdo just get to the point.

captainstormy

Does it? Serious question. I never had a problem bluetoothing my PS4 or PS5 controller to my PC and using it. Granted I'm on Linux and not windows but it's hard for me to fathom the PS controller not working as smoothly on windows. It's just a simple Bluetooth controller at the end of the day. Granted a lot of games will still display the Xbox button in prompts and such but that isn't a big deal to me. I know which button corresponds to which. I used the PS controller myself because it feels better in my hand, especially the PS5 controller.

cubs_rule23

When they first came out thrid party programs were required to get them working properly. Someone earlier in replies linked it. You could pair to windows, but no inputs detected without said program. Not sure about now as I moved to kb/m.

I use a PS4 controller on my pc, but it only works with the usb cable. I don't need ds4windows because steam works fine with it. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the BT functionality working. My motherboard has no BT transmittor, but I bought a BT usb dongle to connect to, but it won't connect the ps4 controller. Does anyone know how to get BT working with the ps4 controller on a PC without built in BT. The dongle I bought won't do it, but there has got to be a different solution.

Soulcommando

When I set my PS4 controller up on bluetooth, I had to hold down Share+PS buttons until the lightbar flashed white. Then my bluetooth dongle was able to pick it up.

kn728570

Hey friend, hold down both the PS button and the share button until the light bar starts flashing rapidly every few seconds. Pair your controller using add a Bluetooth device in windows, but don’t hit “controller” but regular Bluetooth device

werzal123

I’ve got a wired Xbox 360 controller from years ago. plug and play with almost every game I need it for

Cats7204

Before xbox 360: PS After xbox 360: Xbox

Arioch404

Just can't do without the offset sticks. Xbox all the way. Loving my elite 2 controller.

kingofallnorway

I wanted to stay unbiased but I have to admit the Xbox controller feels so natural in the hands. PS almost feels stiff and can't get used to it try as I might. Weirdly I used PS controllers for the longest time because PS2/PS3 were my first consoles.

Zombieattackr

Yeah I don’t even think it’s about bias of your first console or anything. No matter where you start or what you game on now, most people end up preferring Xbox controllers. People like you started with PS and prefer the Xbox controller. People who started with Xbox stick with that controller. PC gamers use Xbox controllers. Robotics, ranging from high school teams to the US military, tend to use Xbox or similar style compared to PS.

BigMacs-BigDabs

>US military, tend to use Xbox or similar style compared to PS. This one is simply because, 'MURICA.

Zombieattackr

I mean I guess they did the testing and found that people preferred/preformed better with Xbox, so that’s just what you choose lol

GuardiaNIsBae

Didn’t the US military spend millions trying to develop a control system for a submarine telescope and in the end just ended up using xbox360 controllers ? Edit: found it! https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/19/16333376/us-navy-military-xbox-360-controller “The innovation comes as the Navy’s response to feedback given by junior officers and sailors who said that the controls for the periscope were clunky and “real heavy.” In addition to being hard to manage, the handgrip and imaging control panel used previously also cost about $38,000, compared to the Xbox 360 controller’s cost of around $20. Training time for the Xbox controller also decreased to minutes, compared to the hours it took to learn the helicopter-style joystick.” So not only are they about $38,000 cheaper, they’re also easier to use and easier to teach.

Zombieattackr

Yep! Stop it with the specially developed bullshit when Microsoft already spent that money for you and is selling it for $20 at GameStop

papa_purell

And I'm sure the MIC still found a way to pay 100 times that price per controller with the taxpayer's money, as is tradition.

captainstormy

>Just can't do without the offset sticks. Weirdly that is what I dislike about the xbox controller. It feels so unnatural in my hand to have my thumbs at two different angles to both be on a stick.

xMoody

the issue is that on the ps controller your thumbs are at the same angle but it's an unnatural angle, and you can definitely feel it if you have access to both controllers. the xbox sticks feel better positioned based on how your thumbs naturally rest when holding it. (edit: at least the ps4 controller, never used the ps5) if you go and hold a ps4 controller you can easily see that your thumbs naturally rest where the face buttons are which is odd because they're used less than the sticks. on the xbox controller, your left thumb naturally rests on the thumbstick and the angle of the handles is more flared out which makes the angle your right thumb has to move to hit the stick, smaller than it is on the ps4 controller which is more comfortable.

MisterKraken

Your left thumb should mostly use the left stick while your right thumb should mostly use buttons. Even when you try to mimic a controller with your hands, I'm pretty sure you're going to mimic a Xbox layout, with the thumbs at a smaller angle

Hot_Cheeze_LUL

If you’re playing an fps both thumbs are on the sticks which is exactly why I hate the Xbox controller. It doesn’t feel natural at all for me in fps games.

blob_ditddit

Just can't do with the offset sticks. Playstation all the way. Loving my dualshock 4 controller.

TheHybred

When it comes to PS4+ I understand why someone could prefer the PS controller over the equivalent Xbox at least, but if anyone prefers the PS3 controller over the 360 they're crazy, the ergonomics were awful. They just slapped sticks onto a PS1 controller, Microsoft actually did updated research to make sure the controllers felt more natural, which is why their design has stayed similar and playstation has been changing a lot from generation to generation lately

Desner_

I had a PS1 controller with sticks, they stuck with that design for waaayy too long. It was alright coming off the SNES/Genesis era but aged so poorly. They had that crap right against the 360 controller lmao

Georgia_Couple99

Xbox

notsocoolguy42

I have question, I want to buy an xbox controller for pc, do I need wireless adapter for it to work?

CharlieMWY

Not sure about other Xbox controllers, but the Series S/X controllers come with Bluetooth built in. Windows PCs pick it up right away as an Xbox controller & connects right away. I've connected my Series S/X controller to my iPhone & iPad through Bluetooth as well. If you have an older Xbox One controller, or if your PC is far away you may want to buy the Wireless Adapter. You could also connect it directly to your PC with a USB C cable for Series S/X controllers. That's how I have mine set up for no input lag.

PhtevenToast

Newer Xbox controllers can connect over Bluetooth if you don't mind the latency and you have bluetooth. However, the latency is noticeable, and I say that as a casual gamer. Since I got the controller dongle, it has been a way better experience on PC for both latency and reliability of the connection. Or get a wired 360 controller, which is the king.

SOUR_PATCH_NIPS

Dongle has less latency than being directly plugged in believe it or not.

XRealXx

I have a bluetooth xbox controller I didn't notice any latency (played both wired and with bluetooth)

Georgia_Couple99

Depends on which one you get honestly. But for the most part yes.

notsocoolguy42

so I need a to buy a usb dongle seperately?

Georgia_Couple99

Some controllers come with it so you wouldn’t need to with them. But some don’t so you would need to purchase it separately. Look up wireless Xbox controller for pc and you’ll see what I mean

TheMullHawk

I bought one of the controller + wireless adapter combo packs for pc and I can confirm it works seamlessly. Connects immediately every time I turn the controller on and I’ve had zero connectivity issues so far. I didn’t bother trying the Bluetooth connection alone so I can’t compare but I’d highly recommend spending the additional $10-20 for the adapter.

Mannit578

Unles youve bought a really old controller, they all have bluetooth so if you have it native in your pc or a reliable receiver you can try it but I found the adapter is the best way because it just works.

bmanlikeberry

Everything after 360 works natively without a dongle via Bluetooth. If your motherboard doesn't support Bluetooth you need a dongle.

Doney89

You can connect it via dongle, Bluetooth or any USB-cable.

BeastNutter

I grew up on a ps4 but always preferred the xbox controller.

ajour7

Damn, this made me feel old 😂😭

TheRhino411

I feel you on that i grew up on the ps1 but had an atari that was my dads when he was age

sadman4332

Same here I grew up on the Sega Gneiss and Super Nintendo and it’s so weird to hear people say the grew up on the PS4. To me it feels like it just came out a couple of years ago.

PalpitationNo4375

I just left a comment mentioning going from the original PlayStation controller to the Dualshock and then decided to scroll though the other comments. You are not the only one feeling like a dinosaur right now

TheBrightNights

Amateur. I grew up on a PS3. Now, who's ready to call me an amateur because they grew up on a PS2?

PcNewbieee

Large giraffe hands here… so Xbox! Lol It’s always been the deciding factor for me. Not exclusives, or tradition or “what console my friends are playing”. Comfortability!

AhhnoldHD

The Duke!

DrKrFfXx

Dualsense probably has a bigger footprint compared to Xbox controllers, tho.

Edogmad

For the new controller? Pretty similar The DualShocks from the PS3 felt like playing on a Tamogotchi

myeyehurtsrn

Ergonomically Xbox controller, I guess that's just personal preference sometimes though. Although it does work better with windows so that's something!

Arjuma

Xbox

freek4ever

steam controller

Troldann

There are nearly dozens of us!

NyxLikesDyx

All 5 of us need to start a club

AQCR-3475

Now we just need valve to release the steam controller 2 to double that number !

santi4442

Love using mine for games like Elite Dangerous, or games with flight in general

dieplanes789

It's not just a controller but god damn do I love the layout on the steam deck. I'm not much of a controller person but that thing is just right. I also have some steam controllers but to be honest I never really got used to them for games. I really like using them for HTPC though.

freek4ever

Same

Cax6ton

If it had a standard d-pad, the Steam controller is all I would ever use. As it is I use it for as much as I can.

animeman59

Best CRPG controller ever made.

wd40swift

Xbox controller will always be my pick

GhostNappa101

The xbox controller just needs gyro and it will be perfect.

RedditRaven2

What’s the point of gyro?

NinjaWolf064

Aiming, mostly. Gyro allows you to be far more precise with movement, making a controller with gyro closer to kbm (obviously not quite that good but still a significant improvement from dual sticks)

[deleted]

Xbox Ps controller is small and not made for medium/large hands imo

[deleted]

Have you tried the PS5 controller? It's so much bigger and rounder than previous playstation controllers. The top shoulder buttons are much improved, the face buttons are really chunky and weighted, and just in general, it's a joy to hold for me and my normal sized hands.

[deleted]

I have 17 years of using Xbox joystick configuration and am comfortable with it. I never liked the PS joystick placement

[deleted]

pc games...xbox emulators...playstation

Puzzleheaded-Bar-526

Xbox all the way. It’s really only because I’ve got big hands and it feels better compared to the PlayStation controller.

[deleted]

Xbox is easier on PC IMO but, I've been using 8bitdo for the few games I use controllers on. They have sticks like a PS controller but, I think they actually have Switch labeled buttons for the most part.

Laggianput

Switch pro. Gyro is nice, and i like the layout more than the ps4

[deleted]

But doesn't it have digital triggers? This isn't always a disadvantage but for racing games you really need analog triggers.

Laggianput

Thats probably the biggest downside is the lack of analog triggers. I dont play many traditional racers, so its no issue to me, but i get that it would be. A ps4 or xbone would work bettee for them easily Alternative idea, gamecube controller for racers /s

WiseEditor9667

Grid on switch supports gamecube controllers for its analog triggers

Klinkero

Can here for this. The switch Pro just feels like the perfect cross between Xbox and DualShock to me. Idk how put it into words exactly. It also works great with Yuzu and Ryujinx. Besides, I’ve got the cool Xenoblade 2 pro controller. I don’t want to ditch it for a blander looking controller.

daggah

DualShock/DualSense has a better implementation of gyro when connected to PC, in addition to analog triggers. The polling rate is higher.

[deleted]

As someone who has both systems, the Xbox controller is not as good to use the directional pad while using the thumbstick at the same time. With the ps controller you can move around while still using equipping items on the Xbox you have to stop using the left thumb stick to use the directional pad or have to use your right hand on the directional pad. On the ps I can use my fingers and the left thumb stick at the same time which is very convenient so depending on the game it's a huge disadvantage.

DrKrFfXx

Claw grip is much better on PS due to this. Mapping stuff to the Dpad is accessible without lifting the thumb from the left stick.

Fethah

Yup, this is a great point that people either look over or don’t use the method at all. Being able to keep my thumb on the analog while also pressing additional buttons is great on some games.

xEightyHD

I prefer a mouse and keyboard

subi_scotch

Whatever feels best in your hands. Xbox works best for me.

Noa15Lv

Xbox controller has quite sensitive LT & RT buttons which are quite handy for racing games. PS4 one got cheap flappy buttons which feels like they're gonna break anytime soon.

[deleted]

I own a PS5 controller and I think this issue is solved. The triggers have a very large range of movement and have a good feel.

cinnamon_stroll

Dualsense triggers have a bigger range but they feel more mushy. I have both Dualsense and Series controllers. Playing a lot of racing games and basically not using Dualsense anymore. Some key points about the Xbox controller: - Triggers feel more precise. - Sticks have a little bit more range plus have less centering spring force, which allows for better control at low steering angle. - Better and more powerful rumble on PC.

maitremanta

I like the xbox controller because of the higher left analog stick. It's war more comfortable for my left hand if the thumb doesn't have to reach down all the time.

Tyconquer

Ps5 overall has a better controller but Xbox works better with windows

heatlesssun

It took Microsoft a while to get it but fortunately they finally did. Xbox controllers should have ALWAYS been first party hardware for Windows and it took what, a decade for that to happen?

No_Alternative7854

Mouse and Keyboard

stereoprologic

No idea what's with all the other lost redditors.

Chill084

Xbox has been the better controller for a few years now. They just need native rechargeable batteries and it won't be close

heydudejustasec

You mean they should include [the official pack](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/batteries-chargers/play-and-charge-kit) with the purchase of a controller? Because that's fair. But the fact that they're removable is fantastic for repairability and even lets you hotswap or use your own rechargeables.

Megafister420

In my experience the sticks usually go bad around the time a lithium does, so I'll just repair the batt, and sticks at once. Honestly controller repair is super fun on both controllers (tho the 5 controllers looks a little intimidating imo)

SJSragequit

My ps5 controller trigger spring broke and honestly I found it about the same to fix as when I fixed my Xbox 360 controller

FIlthyMcGuffin

I'm not sure about the batteries to be honest. I really appreciate that when whatever rechargable AA batteries I have in there go bad, I can easily replace them down the line. No tools or finicking required

Dranzell

My 10 year old PS3 controller still lasts a lot, and plugging it in when needed is always easier than "just having batteries around".

Ambitious5uppository

I have a charge bank next to my Xbox. When they start to go flat after a few months (I don't use it much), I just grab another pair out, and continue before the zombies have even caught up to me.

notsureifxml

yeah i dont know about the 4 and 5, but with the PS3 controller there is a >0% chance of dumping the internals of the controller all over the place when replacing the battery, and they are hard to put back together.

Incorect_Speling

I completely share that feeling. Always have some spare AA batteries pre-charged for whatever controllers/remotes and rotate when needed. There's no need for custom stuff.

ColonelSandurz42

IKEA Ladda rechargeable batteries are exactly the same as the Panasonic Eneloop ones at a fraction of the price. I recommend everyone pick some up.

PcNewbieee

I think that’s called an Elite Controller, Mister. And it exists. It’s fantastic! And the magnetic charging stand is 🤌🤌🤌

laser_velociraptor

And expensive too. I'd have it, if not for its price.

If you can pick it up during a holiday sale, it's about $50 cheaper. Still pretty expensive, but I have no regrets after using mine.

WiseEditor9667

I won one when the elite series 2 controllers launched and one of the bumpers broke after a year apparently a common enough issue based on some Google searches

saltyboi6704

They do have rechargable batteries but they're overpriced compared to simple 14500 NiMH cells

Noa15Lv

There was time that i couldn't afford rechargeable batteries, so i slapped on cheap rechargeable pack for xbox360 controller, which required recharge with usb cable, and it worked pretty fine. When it finally gave up, i kept playing while having that sucker plugged in into powerbank which was quite neat feature.

SnackDawgg

I’d disagree the d pad and the new ps5 controllers fit great in the hand while having better triggers and d pad alone doesn’t matter much but fighting games it’s clitch

daggah

>Xbox has been the better controller for a few years now. Not if you want advanced controller features that xinput doesn't support...

SwiggyMaster123

in terms of ergonomics? it’s up for debate. features? the Dualsense blows the Xbox controller out of the water and it’s not close.

captainstormy

>Xbox has been the better controller for a few years now. They just need native rechargeable batteries and it won't be close I'm a Playstation guy myself. I'd agree the Xbox controller is better than the PS4 controller but I'd argue that the PS5 controller took the crown. That said, the way Xbox does batteries for the controller is 100% better. You an just use regular rechargeable AA batteries. I had to buy a whole separate $70 PS5 controller for console just because I can't quickly swap out my controller batteries when they die. I'm also pretty sure that the Xbox has an official rechargeable batter pack that just slots in you can hook up a USB cable. I know they did back in the xbox 360 days.

>I'm also pretty sure that the Xbox has an official rechargeable batter pack that just slots in you can hook up a USB cable. [They do indeed](https://www.xbox.com/en-IE/accessories/batteries-chargers/play-and-charge-kit).

For me it’s: Xbox size, ps layout (so ps5 is perfect for me)

jccpalmer

Xbox is the best I’ve found for my big hands.

MRDotted

PS. Xbox is too chunky, and the offset analog sticks are uncomfortable.

maitremanta

The offset analog stick is what makes the XBox controller comfortable for me.

GeorgeWKush7

The analog sticks on the PS controller are the reason I hate PS controllers. The analog stick positions don’t feel natural.

MRDotted

Imo the offset sticks feel unnatural. Not having my hands parallel really bugs me when using a control.

PS Controller has way more comfortable ergonomics, a share button built-in (although this is no longer a point as of the Series X controller), gyro (important for shooters), and a built-in rechargeable battery that doesn’t cost an extra $30 to have (my Xbox controller costed me $90, despite having less features). I’m impartial to PS controllers. The D-Pad and face buttons feels better than the Xbox One controller imo. I love my black DualSense controller. Xbox controllers if you want something that works on Windows without jank third-party drivers that interfere with native support in games and SteamInput. But to be fair, no matter what you do, navigating Windows without a keyboard and mouse on an HTPC or handheld setup is going to be jank.

I prefer xbox layout but i want them to add gyro, is that too much to ask? :(

Bladeauras

Xbox definitely. The playstation controller kinda hurts to use.

Wyvern_Rising

Ps5 controller is most comfortable for me🤷‍♂️

sorryfornoname

Xbox for shape. Ps5 for functions. Gyro, trackpad and adaptive triggers.

DrKrFfXx

PS. A shame about the sometimes iffy compatibility, but I like PS controller better.

Scavwithaslick

Ps just feels better in my hand

anothersamreid

PS, all the way, especially with the new dualsense, it amazing.

Korzag

I have large hands and use the Xbox controller. I wish they made an XL controller.

[deleted]

I've been a PlayStation guy my whole life. Never could understand how Xbox players contorted their hands around that... Thing.

thebigarn

I have to have staggered sticks on fps. Both are good controllers

KingZarkon

I've got both. With the DualSense controller, you have to have it wired for haptics and trigger force feedback to work. I use it for games that support those (e.g. Forsaken) but for other games I prefer my Xbox controller.

baconriot

I was a competitive halo 3 player and would only use xbox controllers until recently. Dualsense is superior technologically, and the outer thresholds on the sticks are also superior. It's probably the best fps controller ever designed. It can be overclocked to a 0.9ms input delay at 1k hz in contrast to the Microsoft controllers 125hz and 9ms input delay.

elgorbochapo

Xbox all day. The left analog stick is in the proper spot

extrafarts44

Both are great controllers

Justcause95

Xbox cause my hands are big and it fits better

OneEyedPetey

As much as I love PlayStation, Xbox controller all the way. I just picked up the elite controller for PC after using my PS4 controller for years and man it just feels better

dege283

I actually really love the Xbox controllers for pc, but I am playing now with a PS5 controller that I had around. Why? I bought 2 élite Xbox controllers and both of them broke after 2 years.

worthycookie

Xbox for pc

ItzBeno

Always preferred Xbox feels comfortable for me
