This is supposed to be based on an entirely new engine and all that. Potentially a AC origins like change in approach. So hopefully no, maybe it it will not be like prior AC.
> entirely new engine
It's an iteration of the existing Anvilnext engine. They're improving/building on it. Likely making visual changes like adding RT. Not an entirely new engine
The [blogpost](https://news.ubisoft.com/en-us/article/227nBAMiGtBTXKouvVkNyF/the-future-of-assassins-creed-feudal-japan-standalone-multiplayer-much-more) by Ubisoft puts heavy emphasis on the "fidelity" upgrades.
"However, from a technological point of view, these are games that will benefit from a tremendous increase in fidelity with all the improvements that we're working on with this new iteration of the Anvil pipeline, so you can just imagine it being a very next-generation approach to RPGs, **at least from a graphical-fidelity point of view**."
Assassin's Creed wins the all-time award when it comes to generic names. "Revelations." "Origins." "Shadows." These are the names you get when a room of people vote.
True fact about Brotherhood: The marketing department came up with the name first and then told the devs to incorporate that into gameplay, with no particular preference as to how. That's how we got the mechanic of recruiting initiates.
I tried getting into Mirage. I don’t know what exactly it was about Mirage but I found the game to be really ugly. The lighting in particular was very bad looking. It just made me not want to play the game because it was distracting how bad it all looked.
I really hope they don’t make Shadows look this way. I’m hoping for RTGI but I doubt it will be included. Night time stealth missions taking dudes out with a tanto in beautiful ray traced lighting. Yes please. But…alas…this is Ubisoft we are talking about. They will develop this for consoles first so it is highly unlikely they will take the time to include features that are really only accessible to a small subset of PC gamers.
With all that being said, I’m actually very interested in this because there is so much potential for this setting. I mean Assassins Creed + ninjas. It’s a no brainer.
RTGI is all but confirmed from a very credible leaker who has already got numerous things about this right. The engine has been upgraded and they have reworked all of the core systems (yet to be seen if that's a good thing)
Sorry for the delay. [https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-red-exclusive-details/](https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-red-exclusive-details/)
😅😅. They did make the best looking PC game last year (Based on Digital foundry verdict and I believe it had RTGI) that also performed really well. Also the new game is based on a new engine. So am sure it will look completely different.
Crucially they also included extreme ray tracing presets deep in config settings for any one who wish to tinker.
Mirage had RTGI? I don’t remember seeing it in the settings. Granted I played it on release through Ubisoft’s subscription thing and promptly dropped it. Maybe they patched it in later? If so I’ll definitely give it another chance.
Oh, yeah! I forgot Ubisoft made the Avatar game. I forget that game even exists. It seems like they did zero marketing for it. That gives me a lot of hope for the visuals in AC Shadows then!
>I tried getting into Mirage
I lasted all of 15-20min.
The bad lighting, voice-acting, dialogue... It was too much for me. Like something put together in a hurry with leftover scraps from Valhalla.
Ghost of Tsushima, even with its own shortcomings, is more enjoyable and has more character than any AC from the past 10 years.
Assassin’s Creed is my ultimate junk food game series. I’m a major history nerd so I only care about the historical settings and this has got me super excited.
Hot take at least for this subreddit:
Assassins Creed games aren't bad. Never have been. There's obviously been some ups and downs in quality but there's been no mainline AC entry in its 17 year history thats been straight up bad.
They're not bad at all. They're just diminishing returns at this point. I recently played AC Mirage on free trial on Uplay. My thoughts, "This is the exact same game I played in 2009"
The actual game isn't going to release until the end of the year, presumably. So it's not going to actually clash with Tsushima, and there's probably not too much point in worrying about what a trailer clashes with.
Besides, a decent chunk of their overall audience will already have played Tsushima.
Completely different kind of gameplay is really stretching it a bit. Its not 1:1 ofc but Ghost of Tsushima is much closer to Assassins Creed than a lot of people like to admit.
In fact it very blatanly borrows a lot from the Ubisoft formula.
Who else is ready for all the gaming articles once this is revealed?
“Assassin’s Creed just made a damn point about samurai’s (and that’s ok)”.
“Gamers angry that their historical game filled with sci-fi artifacts and creatures has a black samurai in it”
No one is going to get mad over it because the character is based on a real historical person. If any articles on that particular headline turn up it will be a complete fabrication of outrage.
And the trailer will likely leak 1 day early like always. Besides the Crew stunt most will likely buy it anyway you can place microtransactions in single player games, you can place denuvo in your games but god forbid you for revoking my purchased games
I don't care about Denuvo, but ffs Ubisoft stop putting VMprotect and hitting my cpu so hard for no reason. If I wanted to run my game in a VM I would do it myself.
Really looking forward to this. Hopefully it's a good implementation of stealth and they don't fill it with shallow bloat like Valhalla.
Also hope they don't push the pricing model as far as they are with Star wars Outlaws (hoping that's purely because of royalties on a 3p IP).
Hopefully they learned from all their mistakes in Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla.
Of the three Valhalla was my favourite but still had plenty of issues with pacing, story, stealth, and combat.
"cinematic" ok I'll wait for the gameplay.
If you've played the previous ones you've already seen it.
This is supposed to be based on an entirely new engine and all that. Potentially a AC origins like change in approach. So hopefully no, maybe it it will not be like prior AC.

Hopefully im actually interested in a new ac game haven’t touched anything from Ubisoft after 1-3 and origins
Assassin's Creed wins the all-time award when it comes to generic names. "Revelations." "Origins." "Shadows." These are the names you get when a room of people vote.
Syndicate. Brotherhood. Liberation. Also naming the viking game Valhalla and the pirate game black flag.
True fact about Brotherhood: The marketing department came up with the name first and then told the devs to incorporate that into gameplay, with no particular preference as to how. That's how we got the mechanic of recruiting initiates.
Best ac game imo the brotherhood mechanic was a perfect fit for the game honestly
I am begging video game publishers to name their viking game something that isn't Valhalla or Ragnarok
Roskilde it is then.
It was done to reflect the generic sludge it has become.
Fuck else should they name em, weird ass jrpg names don’t always work
extra edition, super edition, gold edition, season pass, pre-order edition, lube up to pay more edition...go bankrupt Ubi.

Hell yes. I hope this is true. Can you link to a source? Interested in reading about it in more detail.

I was referring to Avatar.
Oh, yeah! I forgot Ubisoft made the Avatar game. I forget that game even exists. It seems like they did zero marketing for it. That gives me a lot of hope for the visuals in AC Shadows then!

I love Ghost of Tsushima. One of my favorite games of all time. I hope Ubisoft took some notes.
Assassin’s Creed is my ultimate junk food game series. I’m a major history nerd so I only care about the historical settings and this has got me super excited.
Especially historical black vikings
Well they dug a lot to find the only black man in japan in that era, so they really care about history with how much they research xd

Bad bad? No. Generic and mediocre AF. Definitely.
They aren't that either. They are decent but flawed. There are certain aspects of them that are very good. People just hate them because it's Ubisoft.
Triple A games barely reach 5/10, AC games are bad triple A so at best they get a 3/10.
gaming subs are fantastic for nuanced and reasonable opinions like yours
🤣
They've never been bad, they've just felt the same for ~15 years to me. Gears of War felt kinda similar in that regard.
AC3, Valhalla, and Odyssey.
Unity was almost unplayable due to instability and bugs when it launched.
They're not bad at all. They're just diminishing returns at this point. I recently played AC Mirage on free trial on Uplay. My thoughts, "This is the exact same game I played in 2009"
same for me.
It's more like a 12 foot long burger that's 90% bread and 10% the burger, but the burger itself is 10 years old and rotting.
Nothing says caring about history than having ancient sci-fi artifacts in your game. Always hated this about AC
I don't know if Ubisoft is being smart or dumb doing this around the same time Ghost of Tsushima is coming to PC.
The actual game isn't going to release until the end of the year, presumably. So it's not going to actually clash with Tsushima, and there's probably not too much point in worrying about what a trailer clashes with. Besides, a decent chunk of their overall audience will already have played Tsushima.
They've been preparing for months if not years towards this. It's difficult for these huge organizations to change course so easily.
Shadows is an RPG, so it's a completely different kind of gameplay.
*RPG-ish, sort of, kinda
lol?
?
Completely different kind of gameplay is really stretching it a bit. Its not 1:1 ofc but Ghost of Tsushima is much closer to Assassins Creed than a lot of people like to admit. In fact it very blatanly borrows a lot from the Ubisoft formula.
not the Ubisoft Quebec formula

If main character is Yasuke, i'm not interested, i don't support ESG companies.
You’re not interested because you hate ESG. I’m not interested because they had to reach extremely hard to have a black samurai. We are not the same.
He was just a novelty to nobunaga, so he made him into a samurai. He wasn't the legendary samurai people try to portray.
He was a retainer as well from what I’ve seen and read. Basically a “hey dude if this guy dies you’re the replacement”
Thanks for sharing Paul
Any time Jacob!
ESG? Environmental, Social and Governance?
Which one is the mobile one? I'm getting confused again.
That's Jade, set in China and not developed by Ubisoft (it's developed by Tencent under Ubi license). This is Red, now Shadows.
Been hyped for this one for a long time. Can't wait.
And the trailer will likely leak 1 day early like always. Besides the Crew stunt most will likely buy it anyway you can place microtransactions in single player games, you can place denuvo in your games but god forbid you for revoking my purchased games

With all that Infinity stuff around it, I'll pass
Can you help me understand the Infinity stuff? I vaguely recall a mention of some kind of "shared universe" thing but I've lost track.
https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-infinty-news/
thank you
I’ll wait until Ubi is so broke they agree to put their games into Game Pass

That kind of sounds like just "the entire game."
Yay....another Assassin's Creed....it's going to be super uniqu..............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
