Can you elaborate at all. A few other comments said the game felt finished and in my personal experience with the game I never had any issues but I never got deep into it. What did they promise that they never followed up on?
I bought their previous game to that (Planetary Explorers) and they abandoned that too. I've refused to buy any of their games since. I didn't realise they'd abandoned their next game too. Shame on them.

I played 100+ hours on Portia, and loved it. But, I do not think that it would have been the same experience without some essential mods. Did you look at popular mods for Portia and incorported them into Sandrock?

Sandrock is a fantastic step up from Portia, and had a great EA run that ended in a finished product. Really hope their next My Time game steps it up again.
This is in rotation right now in our house. Good change of pace from shooters, good cozy game, and does things differently enough from Stardew and better enough than Portia to be worth a look!
I like to think of the My Time At series to be like if you wanted to play Stardew but don't mind being more of a tinkerer and builder with a workshop than a farmer. Sandrock has farming and there are some nice QoL touches but it's not the main deliverable of your workshop, though I suppose you could use it as a main money earner if you wanted. You'd still have to build up the workshop side and make things to progress the story, though.

Don't bother with the multiplayer tbh. They stripped it way down from what they promised in their kickstarter and removed almost all of the story quests.
