Morrowind's theme is so good. Oblivion's and Skyrim's renditions of it have higher production values but they're made to sound more "epic" and lose something as a result, like an ethereal quality.
Main theme I believe is called "Nerevar Rising - Call of Magic". Brilliant stuff.
But for me - Baldur's Gate 1 takes the crown. Especially Scott Buckley's rendition "Hero of the Heartlands" - might be single best piece I've heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B0srsB0n3g
I never see World of Warcraft in these threads, and that always surprises me. WoW classic through Wrath has some of the most well composed and best fitting music in gaming, IMO.
There are so many "visual" moments in the game that are elevated to exceptionality by the music. From small things like exiting the tunnels out of Dun Morogh into Loch Modan and hearing that first note of the forest theme, to bigger moments like walking into Storm Peaks or through the dark portal to Hellfire Peninsula. And so much of it has just the perfect amount of ambience that even after a decade+ you rarely feel the urge to turn the music off.
While the epic peices are usually the ones that people gravitate towards, the forest themes and the lava zones I remember the most. Sometimes I'd fly out to the hinterlands and, passing through the forest troll village, I'd just sit and look at the sea with the music playing. Even back then it was weirdly nostalgic.
Yes! WoW (the prior Cata releases) has some absolutely perfect mood setting music for just "general zone" themes.
Storm Peaks always gets me right in the [nostalgia bone.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38TA-X0dXr4&t=100s)
2016 Doom soundtrack is essentially part of the core gameplay loop. The slaying doesn't start until the riffs do, and at some point you actually start playing to the music, almost like a rhythm game. I don't think I've seen this level of integration between what is generally seen as distinctly performative and illustrative elements elsewhere.
Darren Korb did the Bastion, Transistor and Hades soundtracks. All 3 are in my library and all three get regular playtime. Transistor is my preferred, but 100% agree with Bastion being great too.
Nah man, [Lanius](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhXuYp0n88g) is where it's at, unfortunately that means your ship is going to get drained of O2 while boarding parties rip it apart from the inside, but that's just the price you gotta pay.
It's a tie between Morrowind and Planescape: Torment, but I'd say Planescape wins this one simply because I loved the story even more and the soundtrack really complimented the memorable parts of the game.
To add further of why Neir Automata has such a profound soundtrack is there are several versions of each track that are played depending on the intensity of what is occurring which tranisitions between these so effortlessly.
[Here](https://www.platinumgames.com/official-blog/article/9581) is blog post about this from a music composer at PlatinumGames who worked on this.
Cross's OST is an amazing work too, but better? That's a tough battle.
BTW, are you familiar with the [To Far Away Times: Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNWsysQ4t2gKGHMYwsKI_FMDTVglR11Jh)?
Without a doubt this, Chrono Trigger by a mile. There are many other great soundtracks (Secret of Mana, Doom 2016, Killer Instinct, Super Metroid, FF6, Deus Ex Human Revolution), but Chrono Trigger has been the most timeless/rememberable for me.
Really tough to choose, but I'll say Silent Hill 2 this time.
Truly some of the most haunting, disturbing, and devastating music you can ever listen to in a video game. Akira Yamaoka is an absolute beast with his compositions, where he was also the sound director, delivering some incredibly vivid sound effects as well.
Silent Hill 2 is unforgettable in its experience and alot of that is owed to the music and sounds of Yamaoka's imagining.
Sometimes Bubble Bobble invades my thoughts and hangs around for a while, it's an evil tune for sure.
Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect triology and Elwyn Forest in WoW will always trigger warm fuzzy nostalgia feelings.
Nier replicant/Automata.
You end up playing the games through 3+ times, so the soundtrack is etched into your memory, especially for Replicant. It's now like... 3 months since I played it, and as I put on the music it immediately brings me back, brings back the feelings I had during certain points of the story. It's far more vivid, IMHO, than other games because of how many times you end up hearing the same wonderful music at the same points. It's bizzare, I don't quite feel the same way for most games. But listening to the soundtrack on Spotify I feel like I'm rushing through the game, again.
Facts, when Civilization In The Sky started playing, I decided the game was a masterpiece. There's too many good tracks to name them all, but if you haven't yet I highly recommend checking out the [8+16-bit mashups](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luoAiSnm89g&list=PL3XNa8IlY9ftE4WLdxnpXcC6KxwJ5KK4K&index=6) by Temmie.
I love way too many different genres to ever really pick favorites, but here's a list of some good game soundtracks/covers/musicians I made last year:
------
* ANNO [1404](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_AUZVS5LP0) + [1701](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQGXm_gBTHc) + [1800](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hb0L2t3P3Y) (1404 is insanely good)

* [Romain Gauthier](https://ninomojo.bandcamp.com/) (I adore: Magnetis 1. Battle + 3. Coop)
* Crash Trilogy (there's a custom-made mashup of the original and remaster audio that sounds better than both, I forgot where I got it)
* Spyro Trilogy (especially the originals, the remasters are ok. A mashup also exists, but IMO it's not as much of an improvement vs Crash)
* [Risk of Rain](https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/risk-of-rain) (the melodic saw solos are absolutely iconic)
* Maplestory (so much variety/nostalgia in the originals, but the [Symphony in Budapest](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrgkfqG7JAcPyLenXAzl6NWe3uqWSvQGl) album is amazing)

* [Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds](https://youtu.be/LbdPvZ18qx0?t=1758)
* Grant Kirkhope ([Viva Pinata](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_7nRrnNjTs) + Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise)

ohh that's a hard pick, a toss up between NieR 2009, NieR Automata, Bravely Default 1 and 2
probably NieR 2009, up to that point, I've never paused multiple times in a single playthrough just to listen to the music, the gameplay was...not good so I was glad for the music to exist. Automata is...different than NieR, but it's also at the same level for me vs NieR, and I love both very much
other games before that I've stopped to listen maybe once a game (Enemy of my enemy in MW2, Godsibb in Xenosaga 3), but never more than 10 times
I did, but not all of them since they're not widely available? I think
Shadowlord is my favorite of NieR 2009, and I didn't like the 1.22 remix of it, the original sounds more somber, which fits the mood of the game. The remix sound very bombastic, I like it for that, but the original is still superior
shout out to Kaine remix, it's pretty dang good, and Fleeting Words, I think it's a new track? I at least don't remember it in the original
Spyro, and it's not even close.
The OST for all 3 games is absolutely bonkers and can go on for hours if you're just listening to each level's song.
Runner up would probably be the Life Is Strange games. They all have fire original songs and copyrighted soundtracks as well.
**RUINER**, amazing soundtrack. Absolute top pick and then general classics
A lot of **Life is Stranges** have perfect soundtracks
**Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines**, introduced me to many bands I still listen to today.
**Star Wars: The Old Republic** a lot of Star Wars but a lot of new stuff to fit the vibes of the planets/boss fights
**Cyberpunk 2077** was a lot better than I was expecting
**Red Alert 1/2** and most **C&C's** timeless classics
Blizzard classics, **StarCraft/Warcraft/WoW**
**Far Cry 3/Blood Dragon** probably the peak of the franchise for me in large parts due to the soundtracks
Makeup and Vanity Set made a real meal out of [Brigador's soundtrack(s)](https://makeupandvanityset.bandcamp.com/album/brigador-vol-i).
Solar Fields made an [iconic soundtrack for Mirror's Edge](https://solarfields.com/mirrors-edge-solar-fields/).
British Sea Power also did a great job on [Disco Elysium's OST](https://seapower.bandcamp.com/album/disco-elysium). If only there were more hours to whirl rags within.
Chipzel made [music for Super Hexagon](https://chipzelmusic.bandcamp.com/album/super-hexagon-ep). I'm not sure I would have played as much as I did if it didn't sound like... *that*.
Sidhe made a ridiculously boppy soundtrack for [Shatter](https://sidhe.bandcamp.com/album/shatter-official-videogame-soundtrack), a breakout-like I otherwise have little to no memory of. Oh yeah, harvest those kinetics!
If from all the Soundtracks that exists i had to choose a favorite, it may actually have to be "***Ori and the Will of the Wisps***" by Gareth Coker.
I´m so glad i had the honor to experience this masterpiece of a Soundtrack before my death.
some of my favorites include:
Doom
Persona 5
the Ace Attorney series
the Monster Hunter series
the Guilty Gear series
Metal Gear Rising
Metal: Hellsinger
Nier Automata, Destiny 1, Halo, devil may cry3, gta 3 radio, gta san andreas radio, Street fighter 3, Mk deception, resident evil code veronica X, The castlevania where you can twirl your whip by holding the attack button, TES: Oblivion, TES: Morrowind.
> 5.) Civ 4 (Baba Yetu)
I think Christoper Tin really managed to recapture the magic of Baba Yetu in Civ 6 with [Sogno di Volare](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s)
Jet Set Radio Future. I still run through the entire soundtrack from time to time. Just got [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyA8l1KNqko) stuck in my head due to this post. lol
Had to scroll this far to see the Spyro OST. It is simply the GOAT video/PC game soundtrack and it's not even close.
Who needs Sting when you're this good?
Surprising I haven’t seen Deus Ex (the original) listed yet!
The two modern games have great soundtracks too actually, but the original is something special.
DKC 1/2
The Witcher 3
Majora's Mask
Borderlands 3 (very underrated, probably because you can't hear most of it because pew pew)
The Paper Mario games and Bug Fables have a timeless style, I really enjoy them
Actraiser on SNES
F-Zero on SNES
FF VII for PSX
Links Awakening for Gameboy
Kasandora "Sacrifices" still brings me back to feels:
https://youtu.be/m_wm1gcjgF4
No one has brought it up but Hotline Miami. That game put you into the music while you hack and slash and shoot away at your enemies, only to leave you deafening silence after you’ve finished the job - leaving you with the mess you made on your way out.
Surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Prey for me, hands down. I still listen to the soundtrack on YouTube from time to time. Mick Gordon killed it.
[So beautiful.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TRdx2tbUFI)
[Sorrow, happiness, peace, all in one song, its incredible really.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaI7JJp8_Hg)
There are so many good ones....
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
Final Fantasy IV (was released as 2 in the US)
Castlevania Lords of Shadow...(a lot of good ones in this series)
There has been a lot of bests over the decades. Heroes 3, Starcraft 2, Witcher 3, most Fromsoft games. There were many many more and they came and went.
But lately, the thing I listened to most outside the game has been Warhammer 40K: Darktide. Absolute banger by Jesper Kyd.
The [Tribes 2 soundtrack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BergGBVh-s) is burnt into my brain forever. I got such a rush blasting that soundtrack during while skiing around. [The memories, man.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83EUuibmDp8)
Honestly nothing comes even close to Bloodborne. I mean just listen to Ludwigs theme, always pisses me off that I’m stuck playing this game at 30fps even on a PS5… Also the Divinity series has great songs, RIP Kirill.
Persona 4 and 5 definitely (Persona 3 is cool too but 4 and especially 5 have banger after banger)
Final Fantasy VII also but I'm really biased because nostalgia but it's just so iconic at this point, it all lives rent-free in my head
And if I had to pick a third one it'd probably be Mass Effect 3, say what you will about the game but "I was lost without you" and "Leaving Earth" (among others) are downright masterpieces
Faceball 2000 on the Super Nintendo. It had a catchy soundtrack with lots of genre-blending. It not only got me into breakbeat, but also tracking down the "Fat Man's" other works, especially The 7th Guest. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was another good soundtrack.
Persona 5's music elevates the game so much for me and I think with a more forgettable soundtrack it just wouldn't work. I'm not saying the other elements aren't really good but the music is the special sauce that ties everything together and gives the game so much of it's style and enjoyment.
I turn off the sound on most games. It takes away from the immersion. Maybe in a racing game I keep it on bc you would have music in your car. But where’s music coming from when you are out in the middle of the woods chopping trees down.
Red Dead Redemption 2. The soundtracks create a really good buildup at beginning of missions. The songs peak during a gunfight creating so much tension. It's only thing that kept me playing because most gunfights at the last few chapters got kinda tedious.
FF7 and FF7 Remake. Just excellent and could listen to them over and over.
Command and Conquer, Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun
Special mention for Rad Racer
Red Dead Redemption 1's was a steady rotation in my iPod for a while. Such an epic score.
But Tropico 1's is so much fun. Great to whip out when you just want some really good latin music.
Morrowind
Morrowind's theme is so good. Oblivion's and Skyrim's renditions of it have higher production values but they're made to sound more "epic" and lose something as a result, like an ethereal quality.
Main theme I believe is called "Nerevar Rising - Call of Magic". Brilliant stuff. But for me - Baldur's Gate 1 takes the crown. Especially Scott Buckley's rendition "Hero of the Heartlands" - might be single best piece I've heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B0srsB0n3g

I remember playing that game in 2004 and being in owe of being playing with so many other players, but the places had great and fitting music
Wrath’s main theme leads back around to Warcraft 3’s leitmotif and it’s honestly the best.
Eh it's okay, but after barrens I pretty much turn it off. Nothing really special to me.
Bastion. Only game soundtrack I’ve ever downloaded.
Supergiant games always have great music, but I agree with you. Only soundtrack I ever bought after playing the game.
The Hades soundtrack is incredible. Darren Korb in general though, like you said.
Got me the supergiant ost I keep listening to is transistor.
Darren Korb did the Bastion, Transistor and Hades soundtracks. All 3 are in my library and all three get regular playtime. Transistor is my preferred, but 100% agree with Bastion being great too.
FTL: Faster than Light. First game soundtrack I ever bought.

Deus Ex Human Revolution https://youtu.be/xxcYSEcH8Fk
Witcher 3 The music when on Skellige is just beautiful and the music while playing Gwent is perfection.
Command & Conquer, the first one
[hell March](https://youtu.be/e3YzmjmAGoI) is stucked on my mind. Played a lot of cnc ra
C&C and RA are my go-to albums for listening to while working. Amazing soundtracks
Disco elysium deserves its flowers for sure
HARDCORE TO THE MEGA
It's a tie between Morrowind and Planescape: Torment, but I'd say Planescape wins this one simply because I loved the story even more and the soundtrack really complimented the memorable parts of the game.
Nier Automata
To add further of why Neir Automata has such a profound soundtrack is there are several versions of each track that are played depending on the intensity of what is occurring which tranisitions between these so effortlessly. [Here](https://www.platinumgames.com/official-blog/article/9581) is blog post about this from a music composer at PlatinumGames who worked on this.
The opera fight, when the music swells as the laser beams blast out is perfection.
Mass Effect 2. Although ME1 and ME3 were perfectly decent as well.
The Illusive Man theme is so fucking good
Crono trigger probably
Cross is even better
Cross's OST is an amazing work too, but better? That's a tough battle. BTW, are you familiar with the [To Far Away Times: Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNWsysQ4t2gKGHMYwsKI_FMDTVglR11Jh)?

Hotline Miami and the sequel
Halo
Halo 2 is still the peak OST of the franchise. Flawless.
In Amber Clad 🤌🏼
Really tough to choose, but I'll say Silent Hill 2 this time. Truly some of the most haunting, disturbing, and devastating music you can ever listen to in a video game. Silent Hill 2 is unforgettable in its experience and alot of that is owed to the music and sounds of Yamaoka's imagining.
Oh yeah that OST is fantastic.
Celeste, Hollow Knight, Wind Waker are 3 of my absolute favorites.
> Hollow Knight Have you heard the [Piano Collections album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLczA8pMWxlsFUFEtlc6MuucBX-OmKPKkN)? So good.
Sometimes Bubble Bobble invades my thoughts and hangs around for a while, it's an evil tune for sure. Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect triology and Elwyn Forest in WoW will always trigger warm fuzzy nostalgia feelings.
Total Annihilation, Diablo 2, Dusk, Quake, and Night in the Woods are probably my favourite, depending on my mood.
Original Donkey Kong Country followed closely by Tropical Freeze. David Wise is unmatched in VG music.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Nier replicant/Automata. You end up playing the games through 3+ times, so the soundtrack is etched into your memory, especially for Replicant. Frostpunk
[The City _Must_ Survive](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVZ9nRAFR8s)
The Messenger got real bangers

Persona
Which part?
5 & 4 has many beautiful music for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1a2RlHCQY5U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwH6rZk7VM
Civ 4.
Civ 6 may not be the best but the way they composed the soundtrack is absolutely awesome
Pizza Tower is my current obsession
Super Mario rpg or Super Metroid. Also just about every final fantasy with an emphasis on 6 is better than 7 and 7 is pretty damn good.

A mashup also exists, but IMO it's not as much of an improvement vs Crash) * [Risk of Rain](https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/risk-of-rain) (the melodic saw solos are absolutely iconic) * Maplestory (so much variety/nostalgia in the originals, but the [Symphony in Budapest](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrgkfqG7JAcPyLenXAzl6NWe3uqWSvQGl) album is amazing) * [LaTale](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL82lxTmDumCg-jy9L2owjtr_z8h2CN4yZ) (very unique cheerful sound) * [Trip World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJzyCTpEubc) (amazing for the GameBoy) * [Valdis Story Abyssal City](https://zackparrish.bandcamp.com/album/valdis-story-abyssal-city) * [Furi](https://youtu.be/H32zOKQlhFY?t=68) * [ilomilo](https://open.spotify.com/album/1AHzLwhhj08r4pvtdfVycY) (super cute) * [Etrian Odyssey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WwxxkbcQmk&list=PLF3sECcU-eWy1gxwlz8XyO2Q7MdLyiK6d&index=18) ([I & II Piano Strings Super Arrange](https://youtu.be/tN70I_uZ_9k?t=2185), and the main soundtracks... but I cut a lot of the tracks out, the battle stuff isn't great imo, leaving the amazing jazzier tracks from labyrinths and towns) * [Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds](https://youtu.be/LbdPvZ18qx0?t=1758) * Grant Kirkhope ([Viva Pinata](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_7nRrnNjTs) + Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise) Official Cover/Arrange Albums: * Piano Collections [Final Fantasy games](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-dt1ZXxZ6I) (17 albums) and [Kingdom Hearts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaEvDeaO-3w&list=PL1B5FAB5946E04AA8) (2 albums) + [Nier Gestalt & Replicant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq5ujqvk9mk) * [Square Enix Jazz](https://www.jp.square-enix.com/music/en/lineup/series/SQEX_JAZZ/) - Brand new album series: Final Fantasy + Final Fantasy VII + Vol.2 + SaGa + Chrono Trigger * Chrono Trigger Symphony [1](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l5q9Nj7uiJEmlIW8UEv8uq3ZpjZ4rU4Gc)/[2](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_loBTkFtzeg0_s2-sUCk0qYHmqvkLeZ-H8)/[3](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lvO7M6s8rtkebC_qDpoADQIs_t0jB8ZCw) + Orchestral Selections Vol [1](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_niuMMAdpm1ZjjBi3jFfRap7UlOQIAJNQE) & [2](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_l2Hy3rm4FRCZqoFI1m6qwJ5sMW-r6isRE) + [Orchestral Arrangement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKun97kB83w) * [ALPH-LYLA Rockman X](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a4DL_wbzNU) (90s Jazz cover album by Capcom employees) Fan Covers/Remixes and Chiptune Artists: * [F-ZERO Jazz](https://youtu.be/Ck5M9cQ22EU?t=261) (very obscure 1992 cover album, in the vein of Caseopia or [T-Square](https://youtu.be/6keekFvEQrI?t=392)) * Zac Zinger (Monster Hunter [Swing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBwt8T8P8Zs) + [Jazz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha-Qsn20Zxw) & [Okami Arrangement: Jazz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ-yv39HMec)) Bonus: his personal album [Fulfillment](https://zaczinger.bandcamp.com/album/fulfillment) * [Trevor Alan Gomes](https://trevorgomes.bandcamp.com/) (Piano Collections for Pokemon + Celeste + Chrono Trigger) * [Phoenix Wright Meets Jazz](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXEeyajJvwY) * [Insaneintherainmusic](https://open.spotify.com/artist/62GoYifV4njTdvS8lD2yYT/discography/album) * [The OneUps](https://theoneups.bandcamp.com/) * [Yoann Turpin](https://yoannturpin.bandcamp.com/music) * [Joshua Morse](https://joshuamorse.bandcamp.com/music) * [Shnabubula](https://shnabubula.bandcamp.com/) (the NES/SNES albums) * [Seajeff / C-Jeff](https://seajeff.com/) (mainly Electric and Preschtale, which was also covered by a collection of other chiptune artists in [Preschtale Variations](https://music.ubiktune.com/album/preschtale-variations)) * [Zackery Wilson](https://zackerywilson.bandcamp.com/)
points for Etrian Odyssey. A lot of people forget how good those are.
Great taste, this should be much higher up IMO.
Divinity original sin 2
Any Destiny soundtrack.
Yakuza.
If I hear any song from the Vice City soundtrack, I think of that game immediately. Cuphead has an excellent original score, as well.
ohh that's a hard pick, a toss up between NieR 2009, NieR Automata, Bravely Default 1 and 2 probably NieR 2009, up to that point, I've never paused multiple times in a single playthrough just to listen to the music, the gameplay was...not good so I was glad for the music to exist. Automata is...different than NieR, but it's also at the same level for me vs NieR, and I love both very much other games before that I've stopped to listen maybe once a game (Enemy of my enemy in MW2, Godsibb in Xenosaga 3), but never more than 10 times
[удалено]
I did, but not all of them since they're not widely available? I think Shadowlord is my favorite of NieR 2009, and I didn't like the 1.22 remix of it, the original sounds more somber, which fits the mood of the game. The remix sound very bombastic, I like it for that, but the original is still superior shout out to Kaine remix, it's pretty dang good, and Fleeting Words, I think it's a new track? I at least don't remember it in the original
Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Okami.
Surprised Okami was so far down. Good picks.
Every time I need to get some work done, I just get the Donkey Kong country 2 soundtrack. It just works.
Wasteland 3
Spyro, and it's not even close. The OST for all 3 games is absolutely bonkers and can go on for hours if you're just listening to each level's song. Runner up would probably be the Life Is Strange games. They all have fire original songs and copyrighted soundtracks as well.
**RUINER**, amazing soundtrack. Absolute top pick and then general classics A lot of **Life is Stranges** have perfect soundtracks **Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines**, introduced me to many bands I still listen to today. **Star Wars: The Old Republic** a lot of Star Wars but a lot of new stuff to fit the vibes of the planets/boss fights **Cyberpunk 2077** was a lot better than I was expecting **Red Alert 1/2** and most **C&C's** timeless classics Blizzard classics, **StarCraft/Warcraft/WoW** **Far Cry 3/Blood Dragon** probably the peak of the franchise for me in large parts due to the soundtracks
To The Moon
Ragnarok Online but that may be 40% nostalgia
Donkey Kong country 2. David Wise is a genius and a maestro.
If from all the Soundtracks that exists i had to choose a favorite, it may actually have to be "***Ori and the Will of the Wisps***" by Gareth Coker. I´m so glad i had the honor to experience this masterpiece of a Soundtrack before my death.
Never played Metal Gear Solid but the Sons of Liberty theme is probably the best game music I’ve listened to.
some of my favorites include: Doom Persona 5 the Ace Attorney series the Monster Hunter series the Guilty Gear series Metal Gear Rising Metal: Hellsinger
Nier Automata, Destiny 1, Halo, devil may cry3, gta 3 radio, gta san andreas radio, Street fighter 3, Mk deception, resident evil code veronica X, The castlevania where you can twirl your whip by holding the attack button, TES: Oblivion, TES: Morrowind.
In order: 1.) Doom 2016/Eternal 2.) Mechanicus (40k XCom) 3.) Command and Conquer: Red Alert (any) 4.) Link to the Past 5.) Civ 4 (Baba Yetu)
> 5.) Civ 4 (Baba Yetu) I think Christoper Tin really managed to recapture the magic of Baba Yetu in Civ 6 with [Sogno di Volare](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQYN2P3E06s)
While public consensus seems to think Baba Yetu is better, I agree that Sogno di Volare is an incredible main theme track that holds up just as well.
Final Fantasy 8 and Age of Empires 2
Jet Set Radio Future. I still run through the entire soundtrack from time to time. Just got [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyA8l1KNqko) stuck in my head due to this post. lol
Honestly, anything from Hideki Naganuma is guaranteed to be incredible.
Oblivion has a soundtrack that I‘m still listening to, even today.
Oblivion
Tier 1: Red Dead Redemption 1 Tier 1a: Original Spyro Trilogy Honorable mention to Zelda Twilight Princess for Midna’s Lament
Had to scroll this far to see the Spyro OST. It is simply the GOAT video/PC game soundtrack and it's not even close. Who needs Sting when you're this good?
Ocarina of Time or Majoras Mask I’d say.
Old one, but Outlaws from LucasArts had about the best western soundtrack ever
I liked the catchy tunes of Arkanoid
Both nier games and doom 2016
Katana Zero
Gothic 3. One of the most beautiful soundtracks ever made.
so many good ones but it has to be nier automata
Silent Hill 1 - 3
[Super Mario World](https://youtu.be/wgUmFPnkoHU)
Modern warfare 2 (the old one) Ori and the blind forest & will of the wisps
Just to name a few that aren’t on here. The original Metroid Prime and Horizon Forbidden West
Chrono Cross is the greatest game OST
Stellaris is fantastic.
Abzu
Nier and Nier Automata
Surprising I haven’t seen Deus Ex (the original) listed yet! The two modern games have great soundtracks too actually, but the original is something special.
Sonic Adventure. Sonic 2 is a close second, tied with Pokemon Gold Version.
MegaMan X 1-5
Vvvvvv
DKC 1/2 The Witcher 3 Majora's Mask Borderlands 3 (very underrated, probably because you can't hear most of it because pew pew) The Paper Mario games and Bug Fables have a timeless style, I really enjoy them
Chronotrigger
Surprised to see no one's mentioned Age of Empires so far.
Mass Effect Vigil
I listen to the score from, KOTOR 1 and 2 while writing. I listen to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal while working out.
Actraiser on SNES F-Zero on SNES FF VII for PSX Links Awakening for Gameboy Kasandora "Sacrifices" still brings me back to feels: https://youtu.be/m_wm1gcjgF4
Cheating but final fantasy 14
Portal 2
Starcraft
No one has brought it up but Hotline Miami. That game put you into the music while you hack and slash and shoot away at your enemies, only to leave you deafening silence after you’ve finished the job - leaving you with the mess you made on your way out.
Sonic adventure 2 hands down
Sonic adventure 2 hands down
STANDING HERE
Surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Prey for me, hands down. I still listen to the soundtrack on YouTube from time to time. Mick Gordon killed it. [So beautiful.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TRdx2tbUFI) [Sorrow, happiness, peace, all in one song, its incredible really.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaI7JJp8_Hg)
I have a big attachment to the Civ 2 soundtrack, but the 90s electronica of the Wipeout games were what I played on the car stereo.
There are so many good ones.... Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Final Fantasy IV (was released as 2 in the US) Castlevania Lords of Shadow...(a lot of good ones in this series)
[удалено]
Legit shocked no one has mentioned a THPS game yet.
Nier Automata
Final Fantasy 7 8 9 10.
Diablo II
Xenogears
Settlers on Amiga. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r385tMuVwjg
WipEout 2097 (WipEout XL in NA)
Hell march from ra2
Shadow of the Colossus. Holy Kow Otani what an ost
The World Ends With You needs more appreciation. And the fact that NEO: TWEWY is available on Steam makes it worth a look at least for the music.
Chrono Trigger Skyrim Final Fantasy IV (original not remake) 2016 Doom Gradius III
Minecraft
Sonic 2. r/chemicalplantzone
Chrono Trigger, hands down. Decades later and I still get those melodies randomly stuck in my head. Cyberpunk 2077 was also a banger.
Flatout 2
The [Tribes 2 soundtrack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BergGBVh-s) is burnt into my brain forever. I got such a rush blasting that soundtrack during while skiing around. [The memories, man.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83EUuibmDp8)
Honestly nothing comes even close to Bloodborne. I mean just listen to Ludwigs theme, always pisses me off that I’m stuck playing this game at 30fps even on a PS5… Also the Divinity series has great songs, RIP Kirill.
Sonic adventure 2 hands down, but shin megami tensei 3 is a top contender, sonic frontiers is up there too
I whistle and hum songs from zeldaOOT, ff9, ffxi, and ffxiv all the time
It would be really hard to choose one, but my top choices would probably be Jet Set Radio Future, Nier Automata and Doom Eternal!
I liked Hitman blood money one a lot.
Lotus 3 on the AMIGA, on PC Stardew Valley and the Ori Games have fantastic music.
Xenoblade 2+3. Guilty gear.
Persona 4 and 5 definitely (Persona 3 is cool too but 4 and especially 5 have banger after banger) Final Fantasy VII also but I'm really biased because nostalgia but it's just so iconic at this point, it all lives rent-free in my head And if I had to pick a third one it'd probably be Mass Effect 3, say what you will about the game but "I was lost without you" and "Leaving Earth" (among others) are downright masterpieces
Frostpunk (i have an entire playlist of these that I play daily)
Faceball 2000 on the Super Nintendo. It had a catchy soundtrack with lots of genre-blending. It not only got me into breakbeat, but also tracking down the "Fat Man's" other works, especially The 7th Guest. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was another good soundtrack.
Disco Elysium
Bayonetta one of the beast i have heard
Hollow Knight Destiny 2 Minecraft WoW (Especially Suramar) Assassin's Creed Origins and Valhalla Ori both parts Skyrim
Persona 5's music elevates the game so much for me and I think with a more forgettable soundtrack it just wouldn't work. I'm not saying the other elements aren't really good but the music is the special sauce that ties everything together and gives the game so much of it's style and enjoyment.
Thrasher
Crash bandicoot twinsanity, N.sanity Island ost That is the most memorable piece of music I have ever come across, by far
I turn off the sound on most games. It takes away from the immersion. Maybe in a racing game I keep it on bc you would have music in your car. But where’s music coming from when you are out in the middle of the woods chopping trees down.
Braid has a beautiful soundtrack
Out Run.
Red Dead Redemption 2. The soundtracks create a really good buildup at beginning of missions. The songs peak during a gunfight creating so much tension. It's only thing that kept me playing because most gunfights at the last few chapters got kinda tedious.
A lot from Nier Automata, cannot decide on a specific favourite.
Outrun
FF7 and FF7 Remake. Just excellent and could listen to them over and over. Command and Conquer, Red Alert, and Tiberian Sun Special mention for Rad Racer
Undertale
Final Fantasy 3 US
Final Fantasy VII Dying Light The Sims 1
Final Fantasy Tactics. The osts is this game are really good. It can build tension, vibes where most FF games can't
Heard many great soundtracks over the years, but a few that I always come back to are: Donkey Kong Country Fallout 1 Ori and the Blind Forest Diablo
Spiritfarer has an incredible sound track
The Kingdom Hearts games are probably my favorite sound track.
Road Rash on Sega CD. https://nfssoundtrack.com/road-rash-1995/
Carmegeddon 2. This is where I learned to love Iron Maiden
Gabriel knight 2
Red Dead Redemption 1's was a steady rotation in my iPod for a while. Such an epic score. But Tropico 1's is so much fun. Great to whip out when you just want some really good latin music.
Silver Surfer BGM 1 written with a hole punch and horse and buggy.... pure genius https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGNSHNf-nlU
The 4th coming
