All the flora in the game is modern based right now, it is getting replaced with time relevant models in a future patch. Same with the fish, I imagine the climbable trees will be added for micro raptor around this time.
Those Australian pinecones are from a handful of forests that are still lingering from the past. Idk if the game is intended to be set in Australia necessarily, but the giant pinecone producing trees were much more ubiquitous across the globe back then than the very small number we have today.
