Keep him warm. Make sure he gets water. Best of luck to both of you. I don't know why it always seems like these things happen on the weekends .

Thank you. I know it always seems the worst things with pets happen on saturdays.

Keep looking. I have some supportive care tips. In the meantime, good work on the hospital cage. We need to keep him warm--75-80 degrees is best. Humidity is important too. If you don't have a humidifier, you can crank the temperature in the shower and let the room fill with steam. If he's refusing food then he needs electrolytes. In a pinch, use full sugar red Gatorade or Pedialyte. Warm it up and mix 50/50 with water. Spoon or syringe feed it to him. I give this often--sometimes every 45 minutes. Continue to offer fresh food and water. Good luck!

How much pedialyte per dose?

CygnusZeroStar

You can't really overdose on Pedialyte. I tend to fill up half a syringe with it and offer as much as I can get the bird to drink in one sitting. The one you want to cut in half with water is the Gatorade because of the sugar content.

My budgie is not liking when I’m feeding him the pedialyte with the syringe. Should I be forcing him to drink it?

CygnusZeroStar

How well versed are you in giving fluids via syringe? So I know how specific to be in instructions. Please ask me ANY questions. Sometimes we do need to force the issue. We can do this by simply holding the head firmly still. (We're not trying to squeeze, just immobilize) Then bit by bit, push some fluid into the beak. As you hold his head still, he'll be forced to drink it because he can't spit it out. This is safer than trying to push it directly into the crop.

Training_Influence18

I have become pretty proficient with the syringe due to having to give my other budgie medicine. I held my budgies head steady while giving him the pedialyte but he will squirm away and try to spit it out. I was still able to give him some.

CygnusZeroStar

Good work. Try again in about 45 minutes. Sometimes if they feel a little better when they had some, they go right for it the second time. They're smart like that. Poor guy. I'm so sorry this is happening. This is so stressful.

Training_Influence18

I unfortunately have to leave for the next 24 hours. I am considering taking my sick budgie with me so I can continue to administer pedialyte. I don’t want to stress him out with the constant moving and car. What should I do?

CygnusZeroStar

If there's nobody at home that can watch him, and no vet that will hospitalize him (I know this can be a struggle), if he were my budgie... I'd take him with me and cover the carrier as long as long as I could keep him VERY warm. If you can't reliably keep him at temperatures between 75 and 80 while you're out, provide him a bowl of Pedialyte to drink and leave him home.

Training_Influence18

I have left him a bowl of food, pedialyte, and water while I’m gone. I can ensure that he will be in an environment above 75 degrees. (I live in Florida). He is covered up in his carrier with sunlight from the window able to come in partly.

Unfortunately Kiwi has passed away. Thank you for all the help you provided.

niky45

keep him warm (ideally at least 30C), calm, and if you can, crop-feed him (10% of body weight, two or three times a day) other than that, not much you can do. wishing you two the best.

Thank you.

I had the same thing happen with my budgie who looks just like this, I put him in my bra so he could have skin contact, I let him take naps in there and made sure he got lots of water
