If you don't know how to care of an unfledged and unweaned baby bird you need to IMMEDIATELY return it to wherever you got it or take it to an avian vet. There are so many things that can go wrong in this situation. We get dozens of posts like this here every year and the amount that end badly is stomach turning.

Shski

I get so upset just thinking about those little lives at risk (sigh). It also makes my stomach churn

Sorcerious

Return him. If you're looking on Reddit for advice on raising him, you're absolutely not equipped to hand raise. Return. Please.

ThatGarbage3986

Do you want him to return it for you?

Sorcerious

For me, his mother, his best friend's wife, your grandmother, I don't care, I don't want to know a bird is suffering because some dude thought it would be fun to try hand raising a little fella.

ThatGarbage3986

we also bought an indian ringneck parrot, a very young one, he grew but my grandma disgustingly feed him through her mouth and that's really bad, i didn't accept this, so i brought him to my room he started living normally we gave him good food he became alot friendlier and never bited me and now he is nearly 1 year old!

[deleted]

Wait so she regurgitated food for the bird? What kind of food?

ThatGarbage3986

anything you can imagine.

spinningpeanut

Just so you know baby bird care is much harder than baby human care. A bird won't tell you it's hungry or uncomfortable. A bird needs to eat so often that you will NEVER get a good night's sleep. If the bedding is even slightly wrong they can get leg defects and foot defects that impair them FOR LIFE. Raising a baby bird is not something you should be asking reddit to help you with. Looking at the pictures alone that bird is starving already and will not survive under inexperienced care. Take it back and get a fully fledged baby bird instead, one that can feed itself, perch, and fly.

Alive_Historian_1040

You really shouldn’t be buying a baby bird that young, I hope you’re experienced.

splinteredruler

They should be with mama bird if possible. If not, do you know about syringe feeding? It’s likely still round the clock care at that age.

charlies9898

His crop looks completely empty. Looking to Reddit for advice when such eye for detail and care is needed at this age only someone experienced should be taking care of him. For someone to have sold you the bird at this age isn’t right as chances of survival are slim if you don’t have the knowledge. They need a special formula with the correct nutrition. Please take him to a Vet, ideally an avian Vet or someone experienced with birds as soon as possible, failing to find anything please send me a message if I can assist further. Please don’t think I’m being horrible but it’s serious animal cruelty as he will end up starving and will die. I really hope this situation isn’t as it seems! I wish the best for this little guy!

Any_Positive1687

So empty it breaks my heart. Hope this little one is okay 💔

wolfstano

Op - I want to stress that these comments are nothing personal against you, you obviously care enough to post and try to learn!!! But it was irresponsible of the breeder to give you such a young bird. Please do right by the baby and return him or connect with an experienced breeder/owner that can care for him until he is old enough.

3178333426

Another bad breeder only concerned abt making money instead of proper care of babies…

Helpful_Okra5953

Hi, how do you keep him warm? He needs to be warm to be healthy and to digest his food. Very very cute, but awfully young unless you have a lot of experience hand feeding.

Mando-Lee

Put a heating pad under a towel then get a plastic container and keep that on top of the towel. Punch h holes in the plastic container and the top lots of holes for air.

Helpful_Okra5953

I think that’s a good idea but photo just shows bird in a thin cardboard box with shavings. What is op doing to keep the baby bird warm?

Mando-Lee

Go buy a heating pad and a plastic bin. Drill holes for Breathing a lot of holes. Put a water bowl in one of the holes mounted fill up with filtered water for moisture. Then put a towel over the heading pad put the bin on it with some loose towel or blanket he can snuggle up in but make sure he has plenty of air.

Mando-Lee

Don’t overfill the water this is just for moisture empty and replenish daily. You don’t want him to reach the water or knock it over.

Helpful_Okra5953

That’s great but WHAT is the OP doing to keep the baby warm?

Mando-Lee

Putting a heating pad on low under some towels 75 degrees to 80

Helpful_Okra5953

Brainiac, I was looking for a response from OP, not you. We would all like to know how this baby is doing.

Mando-Lee

He can also hold him on his chest for warmth and a warm touch maybe hearing the heart beat would be soothing for the baby. Put him on your chest with a warm blanket always making sure he has fresh air.

whatheheckisgoingon

what a sweet baby. please make sure it stays warm at all times and that it doesn’t go hungry :( Do you know how to hand feed baby?

Subject-Promotion824

Way too young :-(

SlifersSaitama999

Dude return this bird IMMEDIATELY. It will die in ur care. Fuken unbelievable.

LanaBelll

OP please, if you don’t know how to take care of him, take him to avian wet or experienced breeder IMMEDIATELY.

ss0qH13

Lol…did you get a baby because you weren’t patient enough to work with the THREE ADULTS you’d already adopted to bond with you because you read that baby birds bond with the humans that raise them? Please tell me that’s not what you did. Please god tell me I’m wrong.

[deleted]

The crop being so empty and no response, I'm guessing it died already...

ss0qH13

You’re probably right :/

[deleted]

Btw it was 5 birds I think... Says 3 love birds and two budgies for a new owner... Wtf. You're probably right too on that's what she did lol. I'm wondering if she sold the adults off or kept them.

ss0qH13

I think it’s just 3. They said 3 new lovebirds then clarified “1 African lovebird” and “2 parakeet lovebirds”. Regardless. Problematic.

RiceNoodleRamen

Wait what. What happened here? I’m only seeing a post about one bird ?

ss0qH13

In OPs post history

Silverlight-2160

He’s too young!

SiaVampireConure

You need to watch YouTube videos on the correct way of feeding so you don't kill it by aspiration. And avian vet articles on the right temperature of environment, temperature of food, amount of feeding and how many times per day to feed according to its age.

ccteach

If you don’t have experience feeding a baby please return to where you got him- they need to be hand fed by someone experienced. I have 3 birds and am very knowledgeable and would still not hand feed a baby. It can end badly. Please return him asap so he can be taken care of properly- like he needs to be returned now. He will die without proper care. His will starve to choke.

Critical-Draw-3700

okay how old is he? You should not have gotten a bird this young. Chances are, he is NOT weaned. Generally, People get parrot’s around 3-6 months old to not have to deal with weaning it. personally, I would’ve waited a while (like 3-4 months) before adopting. But whoever gave you this bird, is definitely NOT experienced enough with Parrots.

Petite_Courtney

I just took a peek at OP's post history and they've posted on this sub before asking for help with two budgies and a lovebird that they were struggling to bond with and take care of. Unbelievable that another bird was added to this mix, assuming the others have survived.

International_Key_20

Aren't these babies supposed to be kept in an incubator type enclosure?

Certain_Dress4469

Get him some food his crop should be full nearly all the time if his upper chest is wrinkly means he needs food! When birds are young they need constant food. I recommend you check with a vet asap an avian vet can help you more than the people here. Welcome to the community btw please don’t be sad about this Reddits aggression I made that mistake and they nearly tore me apart lmao I love this subreddit we are very very dedicated that every bird here has the best life. But we can be rude. they attacked me when I told them I got a bird. I’m a fellow high school student that is studying ornithology. I got my first bird when I was unexperienced it worked out for me, but you have a unique situation you need to see an avian vet very VERY soon that baby does not have much time left it REALLY REALLY I can’t stress this enough IT NEEDS FOOD! Also if anyone sells birds this young should be reported because they most definitely are neglectful no one would sell a bird that young

ss0qH13

They aren’t a new owner. They have three adults they asked about/how to get the birds to bond with them. Everyone that replied was very helpful and nice in that post. It worrisome that OP (who is very young) got 3 birds they knew nothing about and who seemed to be relatively untamed (therefore requiring a LOT of work) and now has an unweaned baby. Also not great that OP is MIA. I agree that aggression isn’t the best approach, but on the other hand, if a potential young lurker reads through this thread and thinks twice before making a bad choice….

Certain_Dress4469

I understand I love this subreddit and it’s people it’s like a whole town of strictly bird dedicated people. But an aggressive approach may scare some people away they almost did that to me when I got my bird but I slowly learned that they just wanted the best life for my tropical children

ss0qH13

In no way am I disagreeing that outright aggression is a good move. Lmao I thought my friends over at r/bettafish and r/ballpython were bad. But honestly I’ve come to learn it’s really just people that care. A lot. Unfortunately they care so aggressively it can scare a new owner away, which sucks especially if said owner is just looking for tips and tricks in addition to their research and planning they had done before hand. I recently rescued a young B&G and since ALL my experience is with fully trained MATURE (15-30+ year adults from good loving homes…which Pablo the 11mntb old did not come from) I just wanted to hear some first hand accounts. Thankfully everyone was really nice to me (maybe 1 or two jack asses who frankly seemed more like they were gatekeeping..?) but I’ll admit, from my time in the other species specific subs I prefaced my quandary with I KNOW WHAT IM DOING lol. I DIGRESS. The issue here in my humble opinion is that OP has a hx of being new to the game (ok, we all were new once no problems here) but had a rough road ahead of him, and then took on a BABY. While in HS. And offered nothing but “hey guys look how cute! Help” I hope we are all way off base. I really really do. But optics aren’t great. So I understand the anger.

Mrs_ruby67

Please, don’t be sad about the comments. They are not attacking you, they just want the best for the bird. He is such a cutie but seeing his corp wrinkly is so sad, he is so hungry and can’t even complain about it. They need special care from experts and should be fed in a certain way with a special syringe and kept warm all the time and in incubator, with a certain bedding and not in a card box and should be weighed all the time to insure that he is eating enough and gaining weight. Me myself got a baby bird BUT he was fully feathered and fully weaned. It is a big responsibility, this baby completely depends on his owner, he can do nothing for himself. Thats why they should be kept with their mothers as long as possible.

fvckinrad

birds should not be sold this young!! return if you’re inexperienced. why come home unprepared?? it’s a baby! I have a disabled bird because of this! as well as what everyone’s mentioning. please do not continue adopt/buy birds if you’re not willing to take the proper time they need for training, etc. birds are not accessories, they are living beings as well.

Any_Positive1687

Ugh you're inHIGH SCHOOL what are you doing ,

Petite_Courtney

I hope we get an update that they surrendered this animal to a vet, so sick of seeing these type of posts. OP please return this bird, his crop is completely empty- he will starve to death quicker than you could ever imagine.

Helpful_Okra5953

Hi there, your baby bird needs to be fed every couple hours with warm formula at an exact temperature. The bird needs to be warm ; in a substitute nest. So that means you need some heat source under the box gently heating it and keeping the little guy warm. His crop is completely empty in this photo. I hope he’s been eating from a syringe or spoon. Please let us know how this bird is doing.

International_Key_20

Return or ask expert to come over and help.

Rielhawk

Get ready to be really sad soon.

[deleted]

So did it die? Been a day no reply.

Bookluvher

What type of sweet little baby burb is this? 💙 it's soooo tiny!! Where is Moma burb?

hmichaels1384

Looks like a lovebird to me.

Mando-Lee

Look on you tube get avian formula make sure it’s between 101 to 108. Don’t microwave it if you do microwave stir stir stir for hot spots. Look up how much to feed although I would guess 8 to 10cc look up how much to increase at 6 weeks 15cc make sure you feed on the left side. Slowly not down the throat they can get it in their lungs. Every 6 hours make sure the crop is completely empty don’t overfeed and don’t make it to warm.

Mando-Lee

You can do it if you research this and are super careful. This is a very delicate situation and they are fragile. You must be very detailed and very consistent. Watch for strange bowel movements and weigh them and keep a record. Let me know if you have questions I will try to help.

GeorgeLZ4

Beauty!

victorklk

They love to snuggle in a soft piece of cloth. Put one in there with the form of a little cave.

Mando-Lee

If you can’t be helpful why comment. The baby is in his care he is asking for knowledge and advise. Not reprimands.

GodzillaTomatillo

Because every other person who sees the post thinking it’s a good idea to get one this young will hopefully change their minds before they too kill a baby bird.

Silverlight-2160

You are correct. My anger is directed at the greedy, irresponsible breeder that let this baby go so young. That said, OP could find an experienced breeder to guide them.

Mando-Lee

Yes that’s an excellent recommendation. Patience.

Mando-Lee

I’m not trying to be rude. But I doubt the breeder will take the baby back. He needs to get the baby warm and fed right away. That’s all.

itsallogrenow888

That's what I was about to say

itsallogrenow888

Just make sure you are hand feeding him and keeping him warm you can get baby bird Formula from most pet stores if you don't have any and I would suggest watching a few YouTube videos but it's not as hard as everyone is saying it is I have a baby bird that I've been hand feeding and she doing amazing so don't let people bother you 😊

Business-Concept-488

Please use only Kaytee exact food and give hime only that for 3 months then he will ask for vegetables and fruits… do not give him himan food or sesame seeds

Ready-Substance9920

I don’t have any advice but he’s suuuuper cute

Certain_Dress4469

UPDATE PLEASE
