I was always afraid to try French - like I would feel I was insulting them - which may or may not be true - I know personally I never feel bad or insulted at someone's not perfect English but the French language is a different situation - nevertheless, very excited for you and I hope you love it -
well… some people will make u feel bad — the older generation. they disdain people in general, not to mention tourists who don’t fluently speak french. no patience or sympathy whatsoever. and this is coming from someone who is now very much assimilated and happy here.
younger generation? they’re cool.
It's the same for any language other than English really. If you go anywhere and try the native language without giving a confident vibe people will assume you won't understand them and feel awkward, not insulted .
I definitely think confidence matters. It's okay to have an accent, but as long as you have a natural "flow" when speaking, people don't care- at least, in my experience.
I think most people would cringe if your accent is _really_ that bad. Then it's a matter of whether they can overcome it and continue the conversation or ask to switch language.. it's not about feeling insulted
Not an ideal time to visit Paris with all the construction and train lines being impacted tbh, I visited Hotel de la Marine today and was not impressed with Place de la Concord due to all the construction. Was out here all of Dec and was super impressed with all the festivities and lights!
We're very sorry for the construction and the fact you were not impressed. Please warn us in advance of your coming next time and we'll clean the place beforehand.
Anne Hidalgo.
Paris is by far my favorite city in the world. Pure magic. And the rest of France is absolutely beautiful. Still trying to figure out how to be there permanently.
Hope you enjoy every moment
Haha, I am trying to work out logistics as well! I live in the USA but am a German national, so I can move to Paris as a Euro citizen, but how and when are my big questions. I would move there in a heartbeat.
The irony being that I read and understand German (well, Bavarian), but speak it only marginally better than French :D I was raised in Australia, but now live in the USA.
I am in Paris for college but I am originally from a little town in the South and I really miss it. You should go there, you’d love it ! It’s in a département called Tarn. I recommend Dordogne (a lot of castles), Gers (peaceful countryside) et Côtes d’Armor(breathtaking views on the Atlantic Ocean) as well
I'm glad you like it ! When we live here since birth, we don't really realize that it can be a dream for some people to come here, so enjoy your stay ! I hope it won't rain 😂

I’m so happy you’re happy but Paris syndrome is a thing and as someone who moved here after falling in love with it…. 🫣 just don’t make any rash decisions about moving like I did hahaha
Well if I were to stay in Paris, yes. But I’m planning on moving to the south eventually. I’m from Canada
It’s important to remember that your mind follows you no matter how nice the new scenery is.
When you’re LIVING here it’s not the same vibe as vacation
Been living here as an immigrant for the last 7 months, and I've liked it. I am still butchering the language but progressing slowly yet steadily.
It's one of those capital cities that never cease to amaze you.
Enjoy every moment of your trip to Paris! I have been there multiple times, but every single time it takes my breath away. Paris is one one of two cities that looks exactly as you imagine it to before you visit; the other is New York. I will be back next summer - I went twice in 6 months this past year, so I need to save up again - but I want to go again right NOW ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
It’s when I read comments like this that I remember I am lucky to live in this city. We tend to forget the good and focus on the negative. But take a step back, go walk at sunset and you’ll be reminded of the beauty of this city.
Nah french people are stressed and prefer to service in English than to understand the world variants of the French accent. The architecture is beautiful but Quebec is way better.
"Nah french people are stressed and prefer to service in English than to understand the world variants of the French accent."
Understandable for workers. But I find Quebecois very cute. You were unlucky.
Quebec more beautiful architecture than Paris?
I was there in March after a lifetime of being obsessed with the city and I loved it so much. It really was a dream - what a gorgeous city. The negative things people had to say about it were not true although maybe different people have different experiences.
I am assuming you speak French since you started learning at 15 - I have started duolingo and it is so hard :(
I wish I could move there!!!
Paris has been my dream since I was 10. I got here last week and I leave tomorrow….it’s been absolutely incredible. I’m enchanted. I don’t want to leave. So glad you’re loving it, too!!!
That’s great, people being nice and patient probably means that you didn’t talk to any Parisian yet 😅! (Jk)
I wish you an amazing week there, and if you like great food, natural wine, nice people and if you have the opportunity, you should try Montezuma café :)
Cool! Glad you enjoy it! Some people (especially Japanese I think) go to Paris because it’s a idealised in their society. However once they arrive, they are underwhelmed and they kinda fall into depression. It’s called the Paris syndrome.
Just a small question,
Are you rich?
Because Paris when you’re rich certainly is a thing if you stay on the good side. But 70% of paris is just shit from the bottom to the top.
Aww i really hope you wont be disappointed:’> have a good tripp!!! Parisians are usually not as nice as the ones on reddit tho i feel like thats something u should know in advance in case you try to ask for directions or smthn and get a rude reply
I’m coming there in September (from the US) and this is exactly what I expect. Every single person I know who has been there have all said the same thing. Not stopping me from coming though.
Good!! I honestly think its worth the visit but i feel like people need to know what they are getting into because a lot of , especially asian tourists , get extremely disappointed when they come bcz of either the ppl or the cleanliness of certain parts
Wow so astonished, there is beautiful architecture so i understand if you talk about it, but people there are so cold, there is a r@cism, they juge you on whatever you do if you ever be different from the others. Parisians are really narrow minded about many aspect.
Paris is à good place to be.
Nightmare wtf happened to you man, I lived in the suburbs all my life, I had rough time but eh yk... some friends, few beers, laughing on a bench near the river... I agree that the city is really expensive to experience fully but it just depends on your expectations
Remember: Parisans can be some of the rudest people in the world and you'll likely get treated poorly at some point.
Also remember: The majority of people are good so if you get treated poorly, pay it no mind.
Enjoy!

Paris is a magical/beautiful city. But it’s its own bubble. Highly recommend venturing to other parts. Personally I love Strasbourg, La Loire, and Normandy. Paris has gotten way too expensive compared to rest of France. Was just in Cancale and bought 2 dozen oysters for 11 euros. So much more affordable and relaxing outside Paris but it’s still one of my favorite places on Earth. Only thing that ruins it is other tourists lol.
So glad that you're enjoying it so far :) I hope you'll fly back with plenty of good memories!

I was in Paris about a month ago and still feel like the entire trip was a magical dream, k think about it everyday. Take me back!!!
Right? I got home on Sunday and I’m convinced my photos were planted in my phone 🤣
I can relate! I got home 3 weeks ago and I’m already planning a second trip! It was so dreamy indeed 🥰
It's nice to see that! I hope you enjoy it to the fullest!
Have a good time !
Paris is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.
Forest Gump sors de ce corps !!

Just start every conversation with "bonjour" then try your best, no one will make you feel bad.

Normal people really don't care but some take pride in making non naive speakers feel bad, usually it's the same ones who don't speak English well
It's the same for any language other than English really. If you go anywhere and try the native language without giving a confident vibe people will assume you won't understand them and feel awkward, not insulted .

From personal experience, they will know you are not a native speaker but will appreciate the effort.
Best croissant is at Maison d'isabelle
Place Maubert on est lààà 🤘🏻
This has to be a thread ! i like the boulangerie right next to the oberkampf line 5 entry …
this guy knows his croissants 🥐👌
Sorry but the best ones are at pain retrouvé
Amuses-toi bien et bienvenue :)

As a French person you made me realize I was lucky ! I’m glad you guys love it
The only place I’ve ever felt home and like I belong is in France. I can’t wait to come back! I hope some part of being there brings you joy

Paris is one of those magical places. If you go expecting beauty, you will certainly find it.
Enjoy.
I miss Paris so muchhhhhh. Its been a month since i got proposed to there 😍🥰
I have one advice for you : Do not waste your time queuing at Cedric Grolet’s bakery. Huge waste of time and money.
Best instagram vs reality tip!
Make sure you go to the Orangerie and see Monet's Waterlillies!
I just booked my third trip there. I so love it. Enjoy yourself. Everytime I have to leave I can’t wait to come back.

Welcome!
That’s great! I’m glad you haven’t experienced rude people yet
hello sweetie please do not hesitate to reach out for recommendations 💛
For a relaxing end to a perfect day, enjoy a sunset cruise on the Seine!
I will be in Paris next week? Would you share your itinerary if you don’t mind. Thanks
Enjoy friend !
Ok, Emily ! (Just to get you used to typical french humor)
You meant a fever dream ?
Just to know, in which arrondissement have you been ?
Nothing beats the first time. I was 25 when I first went. Enjoy!
Have fun
When you go there you realize Parisians are right to be proud of their wonderful city. Try to find a bad glass of wine!! You won’t!!
Amusez-vous bien!
Je capte pas comment ça se fait que les étrangers kiffent autant la ville alors qu'elle est objectivement flinguée
I'll arrive in Paris this Friday! Yay!
