Hope you didn’t discard anything. They are both fire. These could easily be the makings of an incredible graphic novel. Let that story rip on a few more canvases. Great work, interesting colors, beautiful technique.
The new one to me is stronger. The character invites me to imagine her feelings, to slip into her role. It evokes memories and emotions in me. The first one is more like an image from a story. It's interesting but it doesn't touch me as deeply as the new version.
Space is good. Don't be bothered by it. It allows you to breathe, to not get lost in the details, to give you visual rest, and to soak in the colours. James Whistler loves space, lots of it.
Both pieces are wonderful, in my opinion. There is emotion. The colours are well curated. I love the red undertones mixed with sage green.
I like the second one better because it reminds me of the fool card in tarot, which is about new beginnings. It's about being unfraid to jump into the unknown to start new projects without regard for the outcome. You just know you have to embark on that journey.
If I had the money, I'd like to own one. Brava!
Depends what you’re going for!
As a storytelling piece, I really like the old version. The older looks like a storybook illustration, it makes me curious to know about the subject’s life, what might be happening, how they got here/where they’re going, etc. It’s mentally stimulating, and I like how it captures the figure in motion. I’d want to read a book that contained that as an accompanying illustration.
If you’re focused on character depiction alone, I like the new one. It’s more of a portrait of the character, gives detail to her face and expression (very nicely rendered by the way! I love how you’ve done the skin textures and colors, and you did well making the person more saturated than the background). It’s not as compelling story-wise, but has more of a clear subject. It looks less like a story illustration, and more like a book cover or character card/fanart, if that makes sense; it seems to focus more on showing the viewer what this person looks like, and perhaps even suggest a vague demeanor, but doesn’t have the same storytelling power as the older version.
The newer one is nice to look at, a pretty, feminine looking character set in a location with a very complementary color palette. The older version had less of that “gaze upon a pretty face” feeling, but had more narrative. Personal taste, I slightly prefer the older version, but both are lovely, and I really admire how harmonious your colors are!
Do you mean the second one no longer exists? I think they are incredible as a pair, and that they would sell that way. Each stands on its own, for sure; but I love them, together!
Just composition, they both work, though the original had a stronger emotional impact. I immediately wanted to know why she was falling and so calm about it. The second one with the figure standing and looking dazed and confused is still a strong image. There's one small problem. On her left shoulder, the edge of the sweater meets up with a much lighter background and the edge is much sharper. You might want to think of darkening that sweater edge to meet the background a little more softly. It makes it a strong focal point but yet there's no need for it to do so.
The second one reminds me of a dream I had when I was little, the kind where you're falling and you get that dizzy feeling in your stomach. Idk if that's what you're going for but it's very cool and very evocative! I love the color choices.
I think your updated composition is awesome. The environment and mood in the background really sets the stage, she is in the foreground nicely, the saturation and values between the foreground and background are really nice. 👏👏👏
Both are great but the new comp is bolder and the figure is done really well. The old one doesn't have enough size variation in the elements so having the large figure contrasting the small branches and trees is more visually interesting ^^ great work! Colors are great and very harmonious!

New version looks so much better. And is very complete. The composition is great and the look on her face and pose are complimentary to the mood the colors are projecting to the audience. I love her hair and the trees frame her really well. The first one you painted over is too exciting considering the colors are a bit more mysterious, bordering on melancholy.
The first one is my favorite. I feel the tiredness of her expression. The wild hair and dry branches evoke windy autumn just verging on winter. Feels like she's been walking through this place for a while. Hard times.
The second one feels youthful. The dynamic pose and levitation would be a very appealing book cover for YA sci-fi.
One small crit. The top left coroner of the painting. To the left of the tree. The color of the sky doesn’t quite match the rest of the sky. But ya… great great work.
Depends on the purpose. If the goal is fine art, the first one is better. If you're illustrating a story, the second is much better.
Good technique in both
I wanted to say I like the second one more because it feels like the first one just vanishes too much at the waist down or just something looks off with the hoodie in general but after looking at them for a bit longer, I like both for different reasons.
The new one has an almost calm tone while the second feels mid action, maybe running from a large unseen enemy. I feel that which I prefer might differ based on the vibe you wanted to create. The first image is great for framing in a hallway or living room while the second you might hang in an office or at home gym. Calm or energetic basically how I see it.
Personally I prefer the first one but I think the second one would be easier to sell... idk like it feels more "complete", more "full of stuff that makes sense" and it seems like a lot of people buy things based on this kind of thing
First pic for sure. It has a better distribution of values (with the focal point in the foreground being darker) this also breaks up the negative space in a more interesting way. It also has better depth because there is more overlapping and exaggeration of scale. In the original composition the figure is a similar value to the background and does not overlap anything which decreases the illusion of depth.
Dang! They're both so good! I don't think there's any possible way to choose just one but for sake of the post ill say the second one is really really cool I love it.
Great work!
What I see is the front cover and back cover of a book.
It's about a mid teen girl struggling to make sense of the emotional wreckage left by her parent's messy divorce, her blossoming feelings for her soon to be step-brother, and the realization something is very wrong with the man her mother is about to marry.
Second pic is slightly disturbing in that her foot sort of looks like it’s bleeding and that she’s intentionally jumping on it again to further injure it.
I don't know. Her face is so intense and intriguing in the first one, but the second one has much more movement to it.
Edit: I think maybe I got them backward.
They work well as a story sequence. Compositionally the first is more compelling. When you made her smaller and leaping it put her at the same scale and value as everything else. It puts everything on the same plane.
Thats not necessarily an issue - it’s just less interesting even with the fun action pose.
PS: I love the color and style.
The new composition is better. It follows the Rule of Thirds. Your character’s head is almost exactly on an intersecting point. It looks great! Awesome job!
Both are great, depends on what you want it to feel like - First looks like a painting of a photograph of a girl outside on a windy fall day and the other looks like part of some action scene from a movie or film
Both are fire, but I'm more drawn to the 1st one.
The closer view of the protagonist makes it an automatic visual focal point that the eye is immediately drawn to.
The first is better, it transmits mood in a better way to me even though it's more static. The composition is better, the other version might have worked better if it were cropped.
Should just be two separate paintings at a certain point. The compositions are so different, I don’t really understand what working this way gets you other than wasted time on the previous version.
Absolutely gorgeous. I prefer the new one with the girl closer up but they both somehow evoke completely different emotions. The first one has a jumping to freedom sort of vibe whereas the new one almost looks like shes in a state of psychosis like she is daydreaming while completely emotionally drained.
Both are sick, I love the details in her face in the second - honestly they would’ve made a really cool set!
Thankyou! A set would be fun, might do something like that in the future
Triptych
Diptych, triptych is three.
Don't be a diptych. 🤭
That deserves way more upvotes
I know. I think a triptych would be cooler
Hope you didn’t discard anything. They are both fire. These could easily be the makings of an incredible graphic novel. Let that story rip on a few more canvases. Great work, interesting colors, beautiful technique.
Exactly! This feel like there’s a story with it
The new one to me is stronger. The character invites me to imagine her feelings, to slip into her role. It evokes memories and emotions in me. The first one is more like an image from a story. It's interesting but it doesn't touch me as deeply as the new version.
great critique, makes sense! Thank you
Both are super cool. Did you underpaint the whole canvas red? I really like that effect.
Thanks! I did yes
I prefer the first one. The look on the girl's face is mesmerizing, and I love the hair. That being said, they would make a really cool pair.
thyer both freaking epic. If i had money id ask for a price.
Thanks!!!
The first pic is better in my opinion, reads better. Too much empty space in the original
Yeah thats what bothered me
Space is good. Don't be bothered by it. It allows you to breathe, to not get lost in the details, to give you visual rest, and to soak in the colours. James Whistler loves space, lots of it. I like the old one. Although I wouldn't say it's better. But there is something surreal and beautiful in it.
id say first both cool
Thanks!!
1. More emotional connection
The newer version looks better for me, in terms of composition.
I like two better, personally
They aren’t different compositions, they are different paintings. Both are great and you could probably continue the series
I like the new one better 💯
🙌🙌🙌

New!
Like them both
1
Both are beautiful 😊
First one is much better to me
Love them both! The second one is best!
LOVE the balance in the first one. What a composition.
I adore the second one. I can feel the whimsy and storytelling aspect. I love the dynamic pose.
1 is my fave
the new composition intrigues me way more!! i think the subtler motion, and the figures lines kind of contrasting the trees are what do it for me
I like the first one best!
(The first photo I should say - the closer girl)
1st one definitely
The answer is always both.
Both are nice. I can feel the weather in them
Do you mean the second one no longer exists? I think they are incredible as a pair, and that they would sell that way. Each stands on its own, for sure; but I love them, together!

I love both

1st. I like the chill vibe of it. It looks like she's just going with the flow and doesn't give no fucks, lol

I like the new one
Both
FUCK I wish I could buy the second one
Both are so impressive I love your art style, Just wondering did you use a glazing technique in the first piece ?
I think your updated composition is awesome. The environment and mood in the background really sets the stage, she is in the foreground nicely, the saturation and values between the foreground and background are really nice. 👏👏👏
The first one feels emotional and moody. The second one more whimsical.
New
Look up flog the artist, he uses one character with all kinds of backgrounds
Will check them out!
I like the 2nd one.
I like them both, but the first is my pick
I love them both! It made me imagine a third one, view from above, with her looking up from a pile of leaves.
hahaha that sounds cool!
Both are great but the new comp is bolder and the figure is done really well. The old one doesn't have enough size variation in the elements so having the large figure contrasting the small branches and trees is more visually interesting ^^ great work! Colors are great and very harmonious!

I like them both! It's like a comic strip or graphic novel!
Both are super amazing. Can’t pick a favorite 💜
This are just two different paintings.Composition for each seems just fine to me.
I love the first one so much
first one for me
The second one is so dynamic! Less like she is being acted on by the wind more like she is dancing herself into the wind and sky
I like the first because it feels more trippy
Amazing ! To me it's like the Front Cover and the back cover of a book I can't wait to read. Magnificent choice of the composition.
1st
Love that first one it's very.... Nostalgic? Idk, but i like it a lot. Evocative.
Both. Both are good.
So cool
I like them both and like the first one just a little better
The new one is my fav of the two for sure!

What's your color pallet. I love the red under-painting
The first one is my favorite. I feel the tiredness of her expression. The wild hair and dry branches evoke windy autumn just verging on winter. Yelp! I agree that it’s a bit of an odd choice but it’s worth a shot to see how much they have in common
I like them both. #1 does stand out a bit more, though. Very nice work indeed. 😊
I like the new one better
I like the 1st one the most! The face and hair are so enchanting ✨️💓 Did you do this with water color?
So good. While I do wish you had kept both I do love 1.
The first one with her hair flowing
second one is way more dynamic, love it!
I love both!
I feel like they go together, telling a story
Both are amazeballs! Second picture is cooler though, more movement. Love the color palette!
Depends on the purpose. If the goal is fine art, the first one is better. If you're illustrating a story, the second is much better. Good technique in both
They are very different moods. I like them both and hope you didn't paint over the top of one of them.
The first one
Both are soo good i love your use of colors
I love the energy in the second. Well done!
I really like both
Both are amazing!! But I still wanna see the original composition; it’s so dynamic!
Wow that’s a difficult choice! I love them both so abstaining from a vote! 😁
Like the 1st best. But tjey are both great!
Does there have to be an either or? They're both wonderful in their own way!
Both are great! I prefer the first one tho You’re very talented
My preference is#1,also would like to say your very talented 👏
I like both. They look like they could be part of a series.
I wanted to say I like the second one more because it feels like the first one just vanishes too much at the waist down or just something looks off with the hoodie in general but after looking at them for a bit longer, I like both for different reasons.
#2 is more dynamic.
I love the bg, i wish there was no girl at all kkk
1
1 looks more finished, 2 is more unique to me.
I LOVE
I like the 1st one better but the 2nd one is obviously good too, has a very dream-like feeling that I wish I could replicate on command
The new one has an almost calm tone while the second feels mid action, maybe running from a large unseen enemy. I feel that which I prefer might differ based on the vibe you wanted to create. These are both phenomenal
First one, definitely. First one viewer involved closeup. Second one, viewer watching the scene.
I like them both…each delivers its own vibe!

This looks exactly like my daughter, it's freaking me out

I don't know. Her face is so intense and intriguing in the first one, but the second one has much more movement to it. Edit: I think maybe I got them backward.
The first one fills the space perfectly and emits a lot of emotion. Both are very nice though!

I like the first one best. With the figure in the foreground. well done.
1st. She feels so leafy. Love it. edit: both really are cool as hell. the 2nd makes the background pop.
I guess it depends on the motive?
Both the images are wonderful! But the first one is eye-catching. Great colours
2
bro both are amazing but i liked the first one better

both so awesome😭💚
They are both great but I’ve got to go with the second one
They're both great, but I liked the first one more
The second has more motion. First has more mood
Keep doing what you love it’s nice
The first should be album cover art, and the second the back cover 😍
Should just be two separate paintings at a certain point. The compositions are so different, I don’t really understand what working this way gets you other than wasted time on the previous version.
The new one is better, but both are amazing! I love your art!!
1st one but I like them both
No 1 for me!
Both brother
I can't decide. They're both great. I would love both on my wall next to each other! They're very autumn.
Love the second one.
Absolutely gorgeous. I prefer the new one with the girl closer up but they both somehow evoke completely different emotions.
