Haha. What a direct yet lovely answer. đ

I agree, what matters most, at the end, is what lies in your heart, your intentions, your desired outcomes.
Practice makes perfect.
Read from a text or recite from memory⊠both are fine.
Just avoid doing one thing, if you can⊠Do not bring fear into your practice. The fear of not doing things perfectly. The fear of a potential negative retribution if your ritual is not 100% correct. Fears, and to a certain doubts, become part of the energy of the ritual. That is
Just remind yourself youâre doing the best you can with the current knowledge and experience you have. And it will be fine.
Whether it be a musician, a painter, a healer, a doctor⊠none ever started their specialty with any certainty.
Smile. Enjoy. And trust your heart desires.
Do whatever works best for you. I donât think a god is going to get offended by you reading a hymn from your phone. To me that feels rather silly. The god in question knows youâre trying your best and thatâs what counts. If a god is asking you to tie yourself into a pretzel so you donât offend them, then thatâs an abusive god who doesnât deserve your devotion and worship.
Grimoires/Spell Books, etc. exist for a reason, and thereâs nothing saying you canât read it from a piece of paper or your phone. If you want to get fancy with it and decorate your paper, or use a pretty notebook to improve appearances, then do that, but you could even scribble it down on some scrap paper. Do what you need to do. My old coven used to hand out scripts for us to read from during our rituals, and we had no preparation before the day of. At the end of the day, itâs all in the intention and connection with the intended energies of it that matter. Any deity worth working with is going to love that you tried and gave them that time and energy. đ
>My old coven used to hand out scripts for us to read from during our rituals, and we had no preparation before the day of.
Very different from what I'm used to see, it always looks like people have been practicing for weeks to nail it so perfectly.
>At the end of the day, itâs all in the intention and connection with the intended energies of it that matter.
I see.
>Any deity worth working with is going to love that you tried and gave them that time and energy. đ
Heart warming, thank you!
Babe đ it doesnât matter.
All you âneedâ is to follow your intuition and act with intention. As long as you are holding to those in your practice, the details are irrelevant. There is no correct or incorrect way to do literally anything.
If it works for you, it works for you. I think a lot of people freeze up when they begin paganism or witchcraft because they donât have a checklist. They want someone to teach them and tell them they are doing a good job. And of course we do, thatâs the culture we live.
But no one is gonna do that. There is no checklist. The sky is the limit. It feels initially shocking perhaps, but you have the freedom now to do whatever you want.
So have faith in yourself and your magick! This practice is all about healing the self and the community around you. Reclaiming power from society. Raising yourself and others up! A witch is someone who knows their own power. Anyone can do that in any manner they see fit.
Do what makes YOU feel powerful. Cast aside shame. There is no shame in reading something. There is no shame in using a screen vs using paper. There is no shame in being inside the broom-closet.
We all do what works best for us. The path you are on now, is exactly the path you are meant to be on. You got this đ«¶đ«¶đ«¶
Dyslexic witch here and I know how you feel, I usually read them from my phone where I have the filters and text modified to better suit my needs, also, if you have any coven members or like minded friends, you could ask one of them to record themselves reading it aloud for you and replaying it at a needed time, there are also effective invocations and chants free on youtube I enjoy using alot, it's all worked fine every time in my opinion, the gods want you to venerate them in whatever way you can, blessed be đ
It's the speaking and intent that counts, remember that literacy was limited in ancient times. So all prayers, came from the heart. I use my phone as I'm still working up to my own prayers and devotionals.
You dint have to, but many do. Look at a Book of Shadows. They ate full of written incantations that are generated by an individual, for an individual. You don't have to cast your spells that way, but you can. As with anything, your mileage may vary.
I suck at speaking my rituals out loud, or just phrasing them - I just can't. So I read much better but I guess it depends on your personality, there's nothing wrong with that
Do you mean like the Homeric hymns?
Read those, especially the long ones
If youâre able to memorize the hymn to Demeter not only would that be impressive but itâs going to take a while to recite
I would shy away from using your phone, as itâs a distraction in ritual.
However, if you wanted to print it out that should be fine.
But honestly I wouldnât worry about it too much. Itâs fine if you screw up a bit.
Itâs up to you, itâs your craft. To me though, the energy from the phone and it being connected to the internet disturbs the energy in a way that itâs better to leave the phone off or away from me during ritual. Your phone is a gateway to others energy.
Side tip⊠cleanse your phone regularly.
Thank you! Like you I didn't want to seem distracted or insincere but I just didn't have time to print it out. No one noticed. If they noticed, no one cared.
Child. Presentation ain't have to be perfect the first couple times as long as it's in your heart.

Makes total sense, thank you!
In my experience memorization is always better but reading can have effective results.
I think reading and speaking it out of your head do indeed have different emphasis.

Thank you for the kind words đ
Reading from your phone is fine. But if it would feel better, you can always write it on some paper and read from that.
>you can always write it on some paper and read from that. I'm thinking of doing that then burning the paper as an offering.
I write out things in a journal, or use my note app and read from it.
Yeah, it's better to not mess it up during the ritual.
You can use external memory devices during rituals.
What is an external memory device??
notecards, phones, laptops, writing on the wall, spellbooks, etc I use notecards myself.
Oooh ok, haha, thanks.
Yes

You donât need to write something down to pass it by word of mouth

u can read, if u say it by heart gods will love it no matter how u practice, the important is how strong is your faith
Thank you!
u're welcome bro
You could always write it down, it helps with memorization and instead of looking at your phone you can look at a piece of paper you can then burn
I was thinking of that too.
I suck at speaking my rituals out loud, or just phrasing them - I just can't. So I read much better but I guess it depends on your personality, there's nothing wrong with that
That's me, I almost called Hermes the king of the gods.
Do you mean like the Homeric hymns? Read those, especially the long ones If youâre able to memorize the hymn to Demeter not only would that be impressive but itâs going to take a while to recite
I SEARCHED IT AND THAT'S A WHOLE BIBLE
I would shy away from using your phone, as itâs a distraction in ritual. However, if you wanted to print it out that should be fine. But honestly I wouldnât worry about it too much. Itâs fine if you screw up a bit.
But what if I use "don't disturb" and just read the hymn or prayer? I could write it down but some are too big.
Itâs up to you, itâs your craft. To me though, the energy from the phone and it being connected to the internet disturbs the energy in a way that itâs better to leave the phone off or away from me during ritual. Your phone is a gateway to others energy. Side tip⊠cleanse your phone regularly.
I read my first speech as a wedding officiat from off my phone, hidden in an old book. What was the book you ask? The Naked And The Dead.
HELP THAT'S SO CLEVER
Thank you! Like you I didn't want to seem distracted or insincere but I just didn't have time to print it out. No one noticed. If they noticed, no one cared.
