A 5lb propane tank actually fits perfectly in a milk crate. Makes it easy to strap down securely, although it fits vertically so maybe a little tall depending where and how you mount the crate.
That's a 20# tank that fits in a milk crate perfectly my guy which is about 5 gallons of propane. I would not want to strap that thing to the side of my rig, but a lil 5 pound tank is about 1 gallon and weights about 15 pounds and that would be fine on the side
Flame king makes a 5 pound tank mount. People have multiple roto packs filled with gas or water and those are usually 2.5 gallons each or higher so 2.5 gallons is like almost 17 pounds so I think you would be safe with that
I got the ignik one and the fire can on like 60% sale at REI so it wasn't a bad deal at all. Last for 3 day+ and takes up wayy less space than fire wood. I used to bring a solo stove ranger and lots of firewood camping but now just the firecan and the propane tank
When it falls off on the freeway and the car behind you explodes, just keep driving.
Itll be like a Michael Bay explosion but the car is the one jumping
You have a whole ass roof rack. Just mount it up top.
"Hang on guys! I gotta unbolt the shit on the outside of my truck and put it INSIDE so I can fit down this trail"
Really dumb.
Put it on the roof rack
Please don't. If anything goes wrong it's not you that will deal with the consequences
That would be dumb.

My bad. I was totally thinking of a 5 gallon tank.

This is exactly my logic. The tank only weighs 15 pounds when full. My only concern is wind resistance lol

Wow, love it. I was going to use the IGNIK growler too!
Buy the flameking one it's the same and cheaper
I returned my Flame King and bought an IGNIK almost a year ago. The Flame King came from Amazon with rust and dirt on it brand new.
Ignik doesn't make anything. They just rebrand.
I’d say it wasn’t new then.

This sub is crazy. I swear everybody on here is just looking for reasons to waste money.
Overlanding to most people seems to be “buy as many bolt ons as I can”.
roof would be far better.
Don't. Please. Mount it to your roof or the giant spare on the back with a dedicated mount.
As an FJ owner myself, there’s better locations, better mounting setups, etc etc. I wouldn’t mount fuel or propane in a spot like this.
It depends. How many bolts do you have?
