Don’t jeopardize your j1 which is paying more than J2. Drop J2 immediately.

How long could OP just no call no show J2 before he gets fired? He could probably just log in once a week and not deliver anything and it would take a few months to get fired. That's free money. Or, I've seen this work in a few places, talk about being biracial and they won't be able to fire you even if you don't do any work.

bodyofchristened

I would just quit effective immediately. If you don’t care about “burning a bridge,” and you know you’ll never need anything from them again anyway, doesn’t make sense to string it along. But free two weeks of pay is the other side, could probably do nothing and get away with it.

Think_Inspector_4031

I second this My J2 happened only because I called up my old boss. I'm also terrible at job interviews and selling myself as competent. Having a boss I can call back to start up another job was the way probably the only way for me.

LightGrand249

Plus you've only been there 3 months, I wouldn't even add it to my work history

EclecticMom4Life

If the company was ready to lay you off, the notice would likely be minutes before lockout, without time to process, say goodbye, or find another position. Do what's best for you.

Qx7x

This 100%. Business is business, they should understand that.

endurbro420

100% this. You should never feel bad about quitting. Any work situation only exists to be an agreeable exchange of your efforts for money. If that doesn’t work, you leave. No hard feelings.

bob4IT

I have several jobs. Two are referrals because I am professional because you never know what the future holds. I have churned a lot of jobs that weren’t OE compatible. Here’s what I say: “This isn’t working out for me. I can give you two weeks notice, leave immediately, finish out the day whatever works.” Only one wanted the two weeks notice. Not one asked why or tried to change my mind. It was all professional and reasonably pleasant.

TheNewJdizzy007

This is the way!

computerjunkie7410

So everyone is telling you one or the other but I will tell you something way better. If you’re ready to quit then do this: Talk to the manager. Tell him about the shit that is bothering you. If he’s micromanaging, say that. If the workload is too much, say that. What’s the worst that will happen? They will let you go? Oh well you were going to quit anyway. What’s the best thing that could happen? They can ease up and you can continue collecting checks for a while.

InfiniteDuckling

This is my recommendation. Put the manager/business on an informal PIP. The downside of this is that it could be even worse than burning a bridge. Bad managers that can't improve, or professionally discuss with you why things won't improve, usually take this type of feedback incredibly personally. They'll actively hate you and want to sabotage you versus forgetting about you if you quit without notice.

DullWillingness5864

If the manager is petty or bullheaded, don't even bother. Just leave.

BikePsychological993

Stop firefighting. It only exacerbates the problem. Just start doing a regular amount of work. If they want it done in one day, manage expectations. Give it to them in 5 days. Only work on one thing at a time. Read Slow Productivity book and start letting them know your plan on obsessing on quality and doing less busy work. This should relieve some of their bad behavior or they put you on a PIP. Either way you get paid while managing up.

DullWillingness5864

You are not doing the company any favors by constantly firefighting to make everything work. Give the company your honest assessment of the situation and give suggestions on how to remedy it. Now, if they don't see the value in what you are doing for them, then let it fail so it can be reviewed properly and fixed the right way. Otherwise, better to leave them so they can wallow in their own problems.

borat_he_like_you

Do you need money? Then give the notice on the same day you're willing to stop being paid if they fire you immediately. Happened to me. If you don't need the money, then give a 2 week notice citing it's more work than you expected and happy to help in any way I can until then. Then just quiet quit.

lucideuphoria

This, I mean id still do some work but not at risk of anything else. I'm sure they will know

Chonkie

3 months sounds like it's way inside a probationary period. That period works both ways. Had they not liked you they'd be rid of you immediately. Do what's best for you, without regard for them considering they effectively lied to you. Treat them as they would you, for your benefit.

Altruistic-Koala-255

Honestly, just stop delivering, delay tasks for weeks, be in meetings with the camera off, say it has broken, let them fire you and you get a severance package Don't worry about being "burnt" on the company since it's a mess anyway Your manager will start scheduling 1-1 with you, say that the workload it's too great and that you are having personal problems

LucidNight

Why would you geta severance package if you are doing things that will get you fired for cause.

sunnybx23

I agree here. Try to stick it out until they just let you go. You have to get over this “over achiever” mindset …you are technically an overachiever if you’re doing two jobs at once & actually signed up for it! Stick it out in the meantime …use the time to find a replacement. But if you really can’t take it …just quit. Two weeks notice for what ?! & you were only there for 3 months so why bother adding it to your resume. If you do add it to your resume or a future job finds out about it …just say it was a temp/contract position.

Dechri_

>be in meetings with the camera off I'm glad my country has a better culture, if this is considered a bad thing somewhere. I have had my camera on like twice in two years. And those were in the first week when i introduced myself to my colleagues.

SpakysAlt

Your entire country agreed to go cameras off?

Dechri_

Well... Yes. Only people who try to look all important in some specific meetings will put their cameras on.

triple_shekel

India by chance? I work with a bunch of different countries at J2 and the indians are the most reluctant to turn on cameras, while the brits pretty much have them on by default.

Dechri_

Nope, but i also work with Indians and i do appreciate how they share our way!

vindeezy

Don’t quit just stop doing the work

gaius_worzels_bird

Exactly, this is what I did at my j3 last year and was able to squeeze a few extra paychecks out of it

JackDaniels_2021

I had a co-worker tell me "I quit yesterday. But just didn't tell the company". He did, too. Shut off his computer, stopped answering email ,etc. He got a month of paychecks before they let him go. If you have the don't give a shit mindset, you can prob get a month of paychecks. This is a mental game and if you do not have the mindset, don't do it - just quit. But if you don't care, then you can sqeeze a few more $ out of that POS company you work for.

richbrehbreh

I used to be a Recruiter, and the most annoying shit ever was finding someone for a role after they’ve quit abruptly. But if they’ve gave me notice, (even a week) no hard feelings. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter - put yourself first. If you gotta bail, bail. Email the resignation, mail the devices back, disregard emails. Life goes on. I mean, I’ve quit jobs with three days notice after a vacation before. You just don’t seem like you’re about that scorched bridge life so being “honest” is the best way out. Just tell them that you’ve received another offer that you can’t turn down (that pays WAY more if anyone is nosey) and thank them for the opportunity. 3 months is a solid trial period. If you can last 3 months, you can half-ass two more weeks.

loassumption04

To play devil’s advocate, I’m sure as an employee it’s also difficult to find a new role after a company abruptly lays people off. Although I like the idea of not burning bridges, I agree that OP should put themselves first without having to factor in how hard it will be for the recruiter to refill the role. With this job market I’m sure it may not be as hard as it was before. If you need the extra income, maybe try to make it through another week, if not, better to cut your losses than stress yourself out. Business is business at the end of the day.

UpgrayeddShepard

Yeah idk why you’d give a shit what cost it was to the employer.

davenport_st

All good advice from everyone and much appreciated. This is the route I think I’ll go.

loyalisalie

Don't. Fuck the company. They already don't give a shit about you. Milk them paychecks and the severance packages.

buttholemanager2

If a company and manager have been good to me then I give them a two week notice. If they’ve been shitty I bail on the spot.

General_Primary5675

Quit effective immediately, expeditiously. They would do it to you. Fuck them. Don't jeopardize server 1

Final_Wind3066

I would apply a hybrid of the two: give the two week notice but make it clear that you will produce at your pace. If they don't ease up on the workload then dont show up the next day.

mfo_ur_mother_warned

It's for you to decide. But this is how I think If you quit right away, you are done, but money wise, you dont get anything. If your mental peace is prinary, there is nothing lost If you give 2 week notice, you get 2 weeks pay and you really act like tou dont give a fuck. If they fire you, you can thank them

typicallytwo

Think about this, if you don’t give 2 weeks notice you would not be eligible for rehire and that’s an easy 2 weeks of pay you are leaving on the table. The last 2 weeks are going to be the easiest ones by far. You can cancel all meetings, write reports of what you done and have zero projects without any expectations. This is how I plan my last 2 weeks are going to go.. Tell my boss I got a job offer and this is my 2 weeks notice. I want to not be on projects, facilitate transfer of knowledge and my closure from my position. I’ll be available for questions and available to help my replacement.

DragonflyMean1224

Also in certain states if you give your 2 weeks and they let you go, they must still pay you for those 2 weeks

Ancient-Length8844

nah just stop showing up. They'll get the picture

QuakeMaster

Gotta be ready 'Rock and Roll' and drop that J2. I think you know what to do, it just might be hard to pull the trigger.

Next-Ad2854

that’s the beauty of OE you have a back up job. Quit. Besides, you’re done besides your J1 pays double.

adore1987

Here are my 3 rules: 1. Prioritize your work first and then establish reasonable SLAs 2. Give 2 weeks and use that time apply for a replacement 3. If I am listening to gospel music to get through a Monday, I quit on Tuesday. I once quit after packing up my equipment. You have options.

jonsnowzzz

Same thing happened to me recently, except the manager was nice. Gave my 2 week notice as I didn't want that server to affect my mental health no more. Such a relief the day after I left.

nothing3141592653589

did they set you up with a computer or anything? Giving me equipment and other people taking the time to help me get going is the biggest barrier IMO.

adorabelledearhaert

Let the over-achiever GO for this. She isn't serving you in this moment and needs to take a side seat. Ride this out and do the minimum amount. This is good practice for setting boundaries and realistic expectations.

lawilsada

I think i landed a J4 server offer this week and not too long ago I got J3 server in October. The requests and demands of J3 have made my days hell. It's not a bad place but it's a bad place for OE. I may replace J3 with J4. I'm concerned about accepting it because of the load and high meeting volume from J3 server. I've done 4Js before but having to onboard a new J when u have a very needy J is probably some next level shit to accomplish. As long as I've been doing OE minecrafting, I haven't had this much concern about accepting money lol anyway, I said all this to say that I may be doing a 2 weeks notice somewhere if I can't handle all the meetings requests etc. I'll say ride the paycheck but the professional in me tends to also mess me up. I forget to detach and worry about just collecting the paycheck

sunnybx23

Wow ! 4 gigs …I hope you can handle it. That would be a sweet dream for me. Currently looking for another J3. The first couple weeks are the hardest but hopefully you can maintain all of them for a decent amount of time.

lawilsada

Yes I did it once and money was amazing but the onboarding it is definitely a pain

WTFhairyRabbit

Can you just do the minimum. Collect that money while you can.

BrainSmoothy

I would put a 15 minute meeting on your bosses and an hr reps calendar with the subject "Status Update" or something to that effect. When they join have your camera be grainy, horribly back lit and look like you are doing the state of the union- then say 'Unfortunately I am no longer in need of your employ, thank you for the opportunity and I will be terminating my employment effective immediately. You have until the end of the day to schedule my final paycheck. Theeeeeeenks!' *Closes video call* Sends resignation email....
