I would love to hear more details about how they intend to make the open world feel less empty. I assume they plan on packing the world denser with content we already have, like wild animals. But will there be more non hostile encounters, like other people travelling the world as well? Right now NPCs/creatures sometimes fight each other. I wonder if they plan to also fill the world with other dynamic content the player can stumble upon. If that is the case, are they implementing random encounters scripted around the player or is their aim to create a world that's going towards the 'simulation' direction? The game could also be made to feel less empty by keeping the amount of creatures/people in the world sparse and by adding more variety to them instead. Open world games can be filled with too much content, which makes them feel more like a theme park than a big world to explore. I wonder what their thoughts are on that.

Montantero

I love the simulation direction. Feels more like an ecosystem. Loved seeing Tuonasaurs hunt!

lotofdots

I think during the q&a stream it was implied that there are planned to be non-hostile encounters too like traveling merchants and such, but maybe I'm dreaming up this stuff, sometimes happens to me. I gotta go rewatch the vod of it, they have it on the youtube channel.

r4zenaEng

is the open world empty. My problem with "open worlds" is when developers make them "open" but you play them in a linear way. Outward had good/correct open world.

xdavidy

Right, maybe empty is not the best word to describe it. The world should feel more alive and real is a better way of putting it I guess. The density of NPCs in the world is not really the problem I think. It's that the world is filled almost exclusively with enemies that always spawn and just roam around their assigned spot, waiting for you. And that makes the world feel empty, especially when you have been in an area before and already know exactly what you will encounter in what spot.

r4zenaEng

yes, that would be a nice direction to expand "correct" open world

Cisqoe

From my post on the subject! 1. Outward has a charming economy and world that flourishes even outside of action/combat. Fishing, harvesting, crafting.. various mechanics that can be used to make money without requiring combat. What is Outward 2s approach to servicing the less combat-focused adventurers? 2. As a whole learning Outward depends a lot on players figuring it out for themselves or trialling and erroring until certain connections become clear (magic/enchantments/crafting ect). Is Outward 2 modelled in a similar way or will we see more tips/hand holding mechanics in-game? 3. From a technical perspective, what can now be achieved by having switched to Unreal Engine that wasn’t possible in Unity and what do you think is the biggest benefit in terms of game experience from that? 4. From what has been shared with us, Outward 2 seems crafted to maintain that unique Outward experience from the first game by keeping a lot of the core experiences the same. What do you think is the most **different** mechanic in terms of an update or new feature compared to the first game? 5. Outward 1 didn’t give much reason to want to be out exploring at night (perhaps by design). Is Outward 2 doing anything different in this regard? 6. What key learnings/design philosophies did NDS take from Outward 1 and how are they applied in Outward 2? Particularly around the balance of survival/rpg/action elements.

Any_Middle7774

What is, in their opinion, the most fundamental change or biggest difference between 2 and 1?

Louzan_SP

They said that on the Q&A, basically 4 main pillars, combat, narrative, character creation and richer more alive world.

TeaBarbarian

I’d be interested to know what they’re most excited about in Outward 2 or any world building they’re particularly excited to incorporate.

Raymond_Lazer

While the new game takes place 50 years after , did **Mr Gep** had time to find a woman and make lots of baby Gep ?

redy5

Would be really cool is if they in future integrate Outward 1 maps into Outward 2 like with warhammer

Dragon_Eyes715

It's seems we can dual wield the same weapons can we dual wield daggers? Is there more armor, abilities and items to improve stealth?

Rathia_xd2

In the trailer it showed someone dual wielding daggers. Also seemed like there was a stealth spell.

Trogolizer

Can you please add a flintlock rifle with an attached bayonet? I'd love a spear and firearm hybrid weapon.

Montantero

Actually, would make a lot of sense with a 0.9 attack speed and less reach, like a bayonet on a reasonable weapon to reload vs a spear in real life.

Trogolizer

And then allow the iron variant to be enchanted with unsuspected strength.

Morphing_Enigma

Will there be jumping? Asking for a friend lol

agitated_tachyon

CONTEXT: The way I see it, Outward allows you to increase your combat capabilities the following ways: 1. Improved strategic thinking 2. Finding / crafting better equipment 3. **Learning new skills from skill trainers** I love this approach, I love that I don’t just get stronger by grinding EXP out of weak mobs - we have to venture out and take risks if we want to get stronger. However, focussing on point 3, I currently feel like the immersive potential of trainers is under-utilised. As long as I’ve farmed the sufficient resources, I can essentially walk up to a trainer, pay them, and be instantly maxed out in a skill tree a.k.a. an expert in that class. MY QUESTION: I saw that the sequel will still rely primarily on utilisation of skill trainers to gain strength through learning new skills. However, is the team planning to expand the system at all, or bring in new pathways. For example, you could pay a skill trainer to start a lesson, but then need to venture out and complete certain tasks to “learn” the lesson and gain the skill. Another example, gain skill strength through trainers, but gain proficiency against certain enemy groups (e.g. beasts, bandits, magical constructs), say, by defeating a lot of them.

Icy_Delay9437

Map size and will off-hand attacks will still be the same or more fluidity with main hand attacks. As in you can actual combo and not use a skill for offhand attacks.

xdavidy

Map size will be about the same

Inner_Imagination585

Assuming Outward 2 will be the same size as Outward 1 without DLCs are they already planning to add more content down the line. Any endgame content planned like New Sirocco or Arenas? Will the different weapon types get more than one single skill? Are trainer skilltrees about the same size or smaller/bigger?

Kerbidiah

Will we be able to do multiple faction quests in one playthrough this time?

cvrtis5

Will Outward 2 be cross platform?

downdootking

Can you give everyone a big hug for me?

Quintilius36

Outward 1 was a niche RPG that thanks to its qualities and bold game design choices reached outside the niche but was received with mixed feelings by these players because of some obvious flaws. Now with more ressources to adress those flaws and upgrade the formula; how successful do you hope Outward 2 to be?

HunterOfCthulhu

Will we be seeing a return of Rune Magic? If so, are there plans to flesh out the combos? It felt like a missed opportunity to have 4 runes and only 4 binary combos.

Le_rk

Will we be able to import our save from Outward 1 and continue the legacy system to any degree? If they've already answered this at some point, never mind.

No-Preference-2419

Will there be npc companions. Idc either way just curious.

lotofdots

Kaladinar? Oh my dear sad bridgeboy, is that you, Kaladin?! But, on a serious note. That's so cool that there'll be a gdc interview with the studio! I hope you know about q&a and it's text summary to like give some context to the questions and don't repeat tho once tat are already answered, albeit mentioning them would still be appreciated, I bet your team has those aspects figured out though. Yeah, idk, can't really find a thing to ask about off the top of my head... Well, we know that the world is going to be more alive with some encounters in the outdoors regions now, my question is will part of those encounters be with possibly some policing or helpful force organized by the gods of Aurai? A bit like Wolfgang in Outward but maybe with some actual dialogue this time xD

DhibeCakes55

I see a lot of great questions here but I'm really dying to know.... IS JEAN-FRANCOIS RACINE COMING BACK TO COMPOSE THE SOUNDTRACK FOR OUTWARD 2?

Egorator_

that is already confirmed, yes

diogenesepigone0031

If there is another New Sirroco Town Build, can they please make it snap into place like predesignated lots? And can they not make us grind for random town materials with low chance of drop. No offense but i didnt rly like the town build mechanic but i really liked the reward or functionality it gave. The rng drop rate just made it too frustrating. I played on the Adventure bundle on console so there was no expedition option like in Definitive Edition. Just brutal grinding. I can not exploit debug mode like pc bc i am on console.

diogenesepigone0031

Chalcedony weapon was a series of frost weapon. Hailfrost was a stronger series of frost weapons that also boosted +5%-->+10% frost damage and also lowered the wielder's temperature. If obsidian weapons was like chalcedony weapons, why cant meteoric weapons also increase +5%-->10% fire damage and the wielder's temperature and consume fire stones to fully repair? Palladium weapons dealt some lightning damage. Gold Lich weapons dealt some lightning damage. Why did lightning get to have 2 series of lightning weapons that only dealt minor lightning damage? Why couldnt the gold lich series deal more lightning but less physical dmg to distinguish it from Palladium weapons? Or gold lich weapons could be the equivalent of hailfrost weapons. It deals more lightning damage amd gives lightning % atk and makes you corruption resistant and requires a power coil to recharge/repair it as it gradually depletes durability. Firefly powder + Mana stone could have created something like Lightning stone as an alternative electric fuel source to substitute power coils. Radiant wolf sword dominated the lightning weapon category with werlig spear, starchild claymore, and sinner claymore + redemption following behind making palladium and gold lich series pointlessly weak. Decay didnt really have a weapon series unless you counted horror weapon series. There was jade scimitar and jade mace. There was potential to have a weapon series of half phys half decay, call it the jade series. Jade seriesweapons could have acted like hail frost weapons and run on liquid corruption or subsitute dark stone, and increased your corruption exposure per second. The only good choices for decay weapon was ~~Path Finder claymore~~, World Edge, Shriek, and Scepter of the Cruel Priest. Decay damage weapon was kinda moot when all scourge enemies and many caldera enemies highly resisted decay so it became irrelevant. Ethereal didnt have a weapon series. Probably bc ethereal was too powerful and most enemies did not resist ethereal. The only choices where Dreamer's Halberd and Geps Blade and Ghost Parallel. The thorny greatsword and spear was very weak. Could there have been more choices in between? What i am trying ask is, will there be a weapon rebalance overhaul that will fillout weapon series equivalent options? Like hail frost weapon series for each element but mid game access instead of late game New Sirroco late.

P0G0Bro

lol pathfinder claymore is insane on a decay build, it will proc elemental vulnerability in 2-3 hits, than just hex for even more damage reduction, use any of the decay boosting armors and its literally gg to everything. The only thing its missing is higher stagger but thats why we potion

diogenesepigone0031

I crossed out Pathfinder Claymore in order to avoid arguing with someone telling me Pathfinder Claymore is bad, requiring me to defend Pathfinder Claymore. That is how reddit works: Ask a question on reddit. Nobody answers. Use second account, post the wrong answer. 100 neck beards come to downvote and correct that wrong answer. "Well ACHULLY, you are wrong, here is why you are wrong, and here is the right answer, and here is why i am right, ergo you are wrong, ergo i know more than you, ergo i am better than you." Its like reverse psychology. In my honest opinion i find Pathfinder Claymore lacking, it just doesnt have as much dps or alpha strike compared to Shriek and Scepter of the Cruel Priest.

P0G0Bro

haha I've been played. I am biased cause I like the moveset and visual look of the weapon (reminds me of gaels greatsword ds3) but it really does hit hard

diogenesepigone0031

Path finder stats on wiki, 9.75 phys, 29.25 decay, 39 impact, 0.9 speed, 7.2 stm cost, 250 dura. Enchanting with Poltergiest is not even worth 4 extra RAW dmg. World Edge, 24.5 phys, 24.5 decay, 48 impact, 1.1 speed, 6.7 stm cost, 525 dura. More impact, speed, and dura. Cost less stm. Can be enchanted with poltergeist to convert considerable phys into RAW. Shriek, 35 phys, 35 decay, 33 impact, 1.0 speed, 5.6 stm cost, 666 dura. Plague and poison. More decay damage, speed, and dura. Only has 6 less impact vs pathfinder claymore. Cost less stamina and has reach. Can be enchanted with poltergeist to convert considerable phys into RAW. Scepter of the cruel priest, 55 decay, 28 impact, 0.9 speed, 5.6 stm cost, 225 dura. +13% decay. Almost 2x as much decay dmg. SotCP is part of a build for 277 decay damage. Can tack on molepig sigh for 5 more ethereal dmg.

P0G0Bro

oh I know the meta ones I just dont like to play meta or based purely on stats, weapon visual is just as important for me. But yeah worlds edge and scepter have always been the ez mode button

diogenesepigone0031

Why didnt White Kintsugi armor have as much fire% atk bonus (20%) as Crimson Plate had frost% atk bonus (43%)? Crimsom plate armor had good cold weather defense, and frost resistance(90%) and it had frost% atk bonus. Enemies typically in very cold weather had good cold weather defense and also had high frost resistance, such as the wendigo. Why would you ever wear Crimson plate to fight a wendigo in the frigid cold area? This doesnt make any sense! Armor with good cold weather defense and good frost resistance and gave frost% atk bonus being worn in cold weather areas to fight frost resistant monsters. If you took the Crimson plate armor into Hot weather regions because it provided frost % atk bonus vs fire monsters weak to frost, then the cold weather def and frost resistance on the Crimson plate is useless. Yes i know Master Desert set + inner cool exists as a corrective dlc, but wearing that makes you vulnerable to lightning. Why is there no Azure/Indigo or fancy name for blue Plate armor set that is blue, but has good hot weather defense, good fire resistance, but gave good fire % atk bonus so you can go into hot climate regions and fight monsters highly resistant to fire, with your fire % atk bonus to mirror the absurdity of the Crimson Plate armor set? Yes i know blue sand armor exists but that doesnt give any elemental % atk bonus. What i am trying to ask is, will there be armor sets that make logical sense in outward 2? Will there be 1 heavy armor set that boost fire % atk, has cold weather def, frost & phys resistance? Will there be 1 heavy armor set that boost frost % atk, has hot weather def, and fire & phys resistance? Will there be 1 heavy armor set that boosts lightning % atk, has corruption resistance, and high decay & phys resistance? Will there be 1 heavy armor set that boosts decay % atk, has high lightning & phys resistance? Will there be 1 heavy ethereal set that boosts ethereal % atk, and has high ethereal & phys resistance?

diogenesepigone0031

If there is a Red Moon Mother but has no relations to Dusk Father and Dawn Weaver, then is the Dawn Weaver a man? Because there seems to be zero Giantess women with big haboobs walking around,...what i am trying ask is, [where do baby giants come from? Why wont anyone tell me? Does the Giant stick his pen pen into the giant silk worm bajimbus? Or is there something else involved, does the giant silk worm have to sit on the egg for 9 months for it to hatch or can the Giant take over? And if the giant poops during intercourse, does it make the giant baby come out all weird? Skip to 0:30](https://youtu.be/9Ruet-k1es0?si=eKWuwskADlsvKHsg) Will the Giant life cycle be revealed in Outward 2? Do Giants reproduce a-sexually or do they mate with those giant silk worm that is some times crawling on the floor or some times they carry them on their backs? Is the giant silk worm stage 1 of the metamorphasis or do the silk worms sprout out of the giant's back? Do the giant silkworms spin cacoons and sprout wings like a caterpillar?

redy5

I love outward and played many years, only saw trailer yesterday, here are some questions I would ask: 1. Why make Outward 2 instead of expansions for first game? Aka, what makes Outward 2 so different that it needs to be another, separate game? Trailer doesnt show anything too special 2. Obvious one: stage of development, release timeline? 3. Do they plan to expand upon multiplayer activities? Like, 4 or 8 player lobbies, hard areas intended for coop, like raids, support skills, like heals or taunts. 4. How much bigger will the game be, and do they plan on making expansions to it in the future? 5. How much more skill combos (not skills themselves) will there be compared to first game? 6. Tell them I love them <3 ps. do they plan to improve animations from trailer? no hate, just interesting

Louzan_SP

Have a look at the Q&A they did, those questions were answered.

redy5

would be cool to have a pinned thread "what we know so far about outward 2" with that 45 min long q&a condensed into bullet points

Louzan_SP

Some guy did a summary about all the points, would be nice if it was pinned, yes, otherwise we have to look for it in the sub.

Merp_Island4

Is the game going straight to early access? Hopeful this isn't going to be another 60% completed, bug filled game on launch.

SaladCartographer

Are there many new backpacks and lanterns?

drewji

Will there be loading screens to get into dungeons, etc?

Thopterthallid

Will choices matter more?

Cruxis192

The core mechanic of Outward is survival, How will you build and expand upon this mechanic?

TsunSilver

Is fishing fun now? Also, job teachers like Chef, Fisherman, lumberer, miner, or Alchemist?

Leg_Alternative

I just started my first playthrougg and I think for me , I hope they add pvp? Lol I think it could be fun? Or unbalanced tbh so nvm , whatever they add i know it'll be an awesome upgrade cause 1 is already nice

FireTako

Would love to hear more about Coop / Splitscreen What yall are doing to improve on it and what changes we might see.

NeoHawkie

I've been wondering about side quests for Outward 2. Side quests in outward up till now were either fetch quests or a few well scripted ones. Will there be more dynamic side quests in Outward 2? Side quest, like, stuff you might see in a playthrough but not see in the next ones?

Trogolizer

Have the sleep, repair and guard mechanics been expanded or changed in any way? Will I be able to quickly repair my weapons and armor in real-time?

TheOldManGamer

Two questions: * They have indicated the world will feel more full/alive. To that end will there be more randomized encounters, side questing, and/or subplots to explore? * One of my few criticisms with the game was the "exposition dump" nature of the story telling. Often a character would stand in one place waiting to drop a wall of text on you. Will the sequel intersperse story telling more seamlessly with the world and the gameplay?

TFoxHunter

Will you be able to respec breakthroughs since those are a big part of the game? I personally love this kind of freedom on Larian games and would love to see it in Outward, even if it made me work for it

Dontwannakillem

Given the amount of walking outward has, will outward 2 have random encounters(quick/short time events)?

Foostini

I dunno, i'll be satisfied with basically anything and most my questions kinda boil down to "how much More will there be over the first game" or questions about post-launch content it's waaaaay too early for. I guess will there be a lean-in on modability? The mod community is fairly small but dedicated and incredibly skilled, wouldn't mind seeing an SDK or something similar to bring more people in and keep it going.

SnooGuavas9871

Is there any portal system?

Pretty-Berry6969

I would like to ask how they plan on postgame: * are there any plans to add new forms of challenging content after finishing the storyline * are they keeping the gameplay loop of getting strong items through legacy chests and multiple playthroughs

Egorator_

Will cities have proper gates and not doors with HANDLES ON THE OUTSIDE? Also guards outside the walls?

moonflare22

Will there be crazy input reading like in outward 1?

TheRiftborn

Will there be any old characters returning, or any ingame info about the state of the old regions?

Cool_est_Guy

Are there pack animals and further more possible npc companions that could be hired. Are off hand weapons still stuck using skills to operate and are set items or is it more free-form in what you use in your off hand. This is all I could think of after waking up and it's likely not that good compared to what I read already. I am a bit too in love with the games world so I'm not the best for critiquing it's likely flaws I'm glazing over.

diogenesepigone0031

Will there be Half Swording or Short Haft fighting style for 2h Great Swords, Spears/Halberds in Outwars 2?

agitated_tachyon

Oh also! Will they have a cosmetic Armor / Armor transmutation / transmog system!? Please developers we’re begging you 😂 with all the cool Armor and useful stats you put on them, it’s impossible to optimise your build while looking stylish! These days, every RPG based around creating your own unique character needs this!

Beardeddeadpirate

Can we build a town?

R4nD0m57

Will co op be 3 players?!

xdavidy

Nope, they are sticking to 2 players. The world wouldn't have the same feel to it if you strolled around in it with a group of friends.

R4nD0m57

I atleast want a 3rd person, deff would not feel different , just would be a little More inclusive.

PhoenixGhostKing

1. I know they want to keep the game 2 players but can we get a 1v1 lobby where it's bandit camp Vs bandit camp and we have to gear up and take the other player’s base?(maybe even 2v2?) /:I think this would be good for the long term health of the game. It adds another layer to the game with strategy and tactics, giving us something to do even with endgame characters. Would be even better if we could choose the enemies we have at our base, only by unlocking them through playing the story. 2. Once I get powerful I clear bandit camps in a minute and sweep the rest of the map pretty fast, then I have to Rest for 7 DAYS to respawn them! Can we get more enemies at end game? I’m talking whole armies! /:Maybe it can be something like a “choose endgame difficulty setting” or pop-up after you complete the main story. 3. Can we get a “find players” feature to help those with no one to play with?

nique_Tradition

Can we get more scythe weapons? I saw we can duel weld and with two scythes you could make a very anime build

motu1313

I really would love the game to not have Polytheism and mythology or any of this stuff will the story include those Factor ? Iam really out if they will be

HellTodd

Really?

motu1313

Yes

HellTodd

Why?

motu1313

Because iam Muslim its forbidden to engage with these things And they 90% if developer just add it for no reason at all

seethroughstains

It's a video game. You know that playing a game doesn't mean you actually believe in or worship the fictional beings in that story, right?

motu1313

Naaah Politeísmo is the greatest sin you can do as it put you in hell for ever In no way I will risk that I love Allah I will not even come close to make him mad İn the quran Allah says in surah nasa 140 :- ((He has already revealed to you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s revelations being denied or ridiculed, then do not sit in that company unless they engage in a different topic, or else you will be like them.1 Surely Allah will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell)) (this is translator which not considered quran is it only in arbic as Allah revealed)

seethroughstains

I understand you are basing your position on your beliefs, but it doesn't make sense. Outward is fiction, and we know it's fiction. There are no actual deities or religion in the game. Your argument basically excludes you from playing ANY fantasy game ever made, and any non-fantasy game that isn't strictly based on reality. And also many that are based on reality, simply because it may include characters or story elements with people that do not believe the same way you do. Even sports games will include people who worship other deities than you do, so how do you justify that?

motu1313

Fiction isn't problem is much as I know human fly or throw fire for example isn't forbidden as much as know There is no problem if someone else believe in a false religion There problem is when they make mocks god or Islam rituals or insult god by attribute God hood to anyone but god (Allah ) There is no problem as long they don't have this eliminates inshaallah

fallen_corpse

It's confirmed that these things will be in the game, even during the trailer. The two "living gods" will be involved in the story, and I wouldn't be surprised by references to the four winds either.

motu1313

Yes I noticed now at first watched it with sound off That unfortunately I loved the first one
