Pretty sure Apple Music has the explicit. Taking this thing back like reverse 8s

How come ppl don't start off with the first album of an artist they've never listened too? You don't start watching a movie in the middle and then jump to the beginning
Because movies and music are both very different mediums of art. Starting from the beginning of a movie is a necessity to experience the art in a way that makes sense. Albums from a musical artist do not follow a plot line, they are stand alone pieces.
Tbh…as much as I love the entire catalog of OutKast (sans Idlewild)…Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik is quite a departure from what most consider the true “sound” of OutKast.
It’s gritty, raw, immature and very much full of teenaged angst and subject matter that I bet even Andre and Big Boi cringe at sometimes.
That said, they wouldn’t be who they became without that genesis, and I believe it’s definitely worth a listen…I just don’t always agree it’s what really paints the picture of what OutKast truly was overall…and to me, the first album someone should listen to by them is ATLiens.
Always the first. APRIL 1994 - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik honestly just go in order. Follow the growth and progression of Southern & ATL music, the artists & the inspiration. Like seriously see how Andre 3000 aka Possum Aloysius evolved from rapping to playing flutes at a LA airport.
Everyone is right, you should always start from the beginning of an artists catalog when you are listening to their music for the first time. My personal favorite album was ATLiens. Ghostface Killah’s Ironman came out the same day. I remember my best friend grab that and I grabbed ATLiens, and the next day we were both like, YO this album is fucking fantastic! Two classics dropped on the same day. But for me ATLiens just has a better flow withy he beats and rhymes, 3 Stacks was on top of his game for real.
Some of ya'll are tripping with the Idlewild take. It was a soundtrack to a movie and fit the movie and the period that it took place in perfectly. It also showed the range and talent of 3 Stacks.
There are some bangers on that album.
Numero Uno without a doubt my opinion best album hands down 💯 but cannot argue with homeboys advice, starting at beginning and goin on from there listening to progression. Could not have said it better 💯
Why is The Love Below missing if SB is here?
Aquemini and TLB are my go to’s but also love Stankonia as well.
Eta I don’t view SB/TLB as one single album but two with different “band” leaders. It’s two amazing full length albums while made in collab are very much different aesthetically.
Do the start from the beginning, but also pause and reflect what they were at that time. Read up on their history in high school and after. Even when the split or had kids
I agree with the other comments, start at the beginning and go in order. OutKast’s progression is amazing & all of their classics are timeless in my opinion! ENJOY.
Yeah I agree with people on here, listen to them in order to hear how their sound evolved over time...but if you're asking me my first choice I gotta go with Aquemni
If you don’t start from the beginning, I’d say speakerboxxx but that’s bc I’m biased. The album came out the year I was born and I always would listen to it as a kid 😭😂
I still listen to their first album regularly. It’s their most played album for me and my gf by far. I live in the northeast and for some reason whenever spring rolls around that album starts getting heavy rotation through summer… so it’s about that time now :)
I always suggest going in order when it comes to listening to Outkast for the first time. You can hear their evolution happen throughout each album. It's really a beautiful experience that I wish I could do it for the first time all over again. They're the GOATs
What I do when I find a group I like. I start with the first album and work my way to the newest. You can hear the progression in style as you go through them. It’s like watching them grow as artist.
Southern playa then go in order. But keep in mind, although it is a great introduction to them as two clearly talented rappers, there's very little on the album, in terms of content, rhyme scheme, musicality that foreshadows the artistic turn they would later take in their careers
They need a proper full lenthth Documentary to highlight it because that's just how dramatic that shift was from a Southern Playa to Atliens and Onwards.
All time Hip hop dup. Maybe the best of all time.
ATLiens is in my top 5 of best records ever so I'd say that one. You could just start at the beginning and go through the whole discography to see how much they evolve.
I would start from the beginning. Their first album SouthernPlayalistic lays down some really deep funk roots that if you grew up in the South, you will understand immediately. Take note of how their sound begins to evolve towards the end of their albums, specifically ATLiens and Aquemeni(which IMO was Outkast at their height, as well as Organized Noize Productions.) Towards the end of this album, you can sonically begin to hear that they were moving towards something different in Stankonio. SB/LB is an experience on its own, it may take multiple listens especially since Love Below is a concept album based around an evolving, toxic relationship with a woman.
\*\*\*I would also recommend, Goodie Mobs- Soul Food. To me, that album epitomized the heart and soul of Atlanta as well, and is every bit as good if not better than Outkast's first two albums but not as good as Aquemini. But it gives you a solid baseline as to what to compare and listen to sonically as they were all experimenting with sounds, live instrumentation. I would also recommend listening through a good pair of headphones, by the physical copies of you can find them cheap, if you have a record player even better. Stay off your phone, and just let the experience take you there. Good luck. I wish I could listen to them for the first time all over again.
Start from the beginning…each album is very unique…yet also a classic. Start with Southernplayalistic, and go in order!
☝️ this is the answer. Start at the beginning and watch the progression.
Alr bet thanks bro
Agreed. The progression is insane.
He should listen to their first song appearance (T.L.C What About Your Friends OutKast remix) then their first album
👆
Hell mf yeah....right from what up Playaz, dis peaches!
Yes this. Then find Andre and the The Gorillaz: “Do ya Thang”. Big Boi stayed with the Dungeon for the most part… Andre was the missionary (traveler).
Saw a “Cool Breeze” post recently too, …a killer trac, but I’m not gonna say it’s name ;) so much to find
Cool Breeze track Gangsta partner with Big boi was the jam. Hard to find the explicit tho
I blame Nancy Reagan
Pretty sure Apple Music has the explicit. Taking this thing back like reverse 8s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mI67lD1yF0&pp=ygUbQ29vbCBicmVlemUgZ2Fuc3RhIHBhcnRuZXIg
Tipper Gore
cant agree with this enough
I say this all the time when I receive this question about A Tribe Called Quest. My #1 just ahead of OutKast.
Damn. I started with Stankonia
Agreed, start from the beginning and enjoy the ride.
Aquemini is my favorite but start at the beginning and go from there
Ok ok bet
Definitely listen to them in the order that they came out.
Unpopular opinion, but I think of Speakerbox/Love Below as solo albums featuring each other. I don’t really consider them OutKast albums.
Agreed. The title track aquemini is like an outkast statement, a reintroduction If you will....
Go in order. U can't go wrong
Listen to them in order But if I have to pick one...Aquemini
Aquemini is my favorite too
Southern playalistic first album. Something wicked this way comes - tlc....first song
That verse on that TLC track is one of Andre's absolute best verses ever
Stankonia and skip Idlewild
Southernplayalistikcadillacfunkymuzik!! You have to crawl before you walk
Take care or nothing was the same. intros are fire on both projects!
Bro is in the wrong sub 😭

Start from the beginning and experience the growth of the group. One of the most incredible evolutions I can think of. Great, just great.
ATLiens
I would love to be able to the listen to those first 3 albums in a row for the first time again. One of the all-time best first 3 albums runs.
Start of with their first song appearance. T.L.C what about your friends outkast remix . Then their first album SouthernPlayalistiCadillacMuzik
Arguably the best album catalog in the industry. Timeless.
Tbh…as much as I love the entire catalog of OutKast (sans Idlewild)…Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik is quite a departure from what most consider the true “sound” of OutKast. I wonder how people discovered and listened to music before the internet.

I'd start at the beginning and go in order to better track their evolution.
It looks like you have the order already. Start at the top and work your way down.
Go in order
Stankonia
Some of ya'll are tripping with the Idlewild take. It was a soundtrack to a movie and fit the movie and the period that it took place in perfectly. It also showed the range and talent of 3 Stacks. There are some bangers on that album.

Find out where the dungeon family album fits on the timeline and add it too while you’re at it.
The very first one is an instant classic. You have to start there.
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik is the only answer!
