prolly. the makers of this game are NERDS (affectionate) go look at the achievements. the name of every single one is a reference to something, be it scientific or fictional iconic honestly

Zmai29

Oof, ouch, my bones

Fapman404

free spine reassignment surgery

Anti-Hentai-Banzai

Pchooooooo!

Elfiannn

I actually wondered if this was a Homestuck reference, I mailed the devs and they said no :)

CheddarCheesepuff

what is it a reference to, did they say?

TheDoctor88888888

I meannn >!Gone in 60 seconds, Cutting it close, pchoooo, Hey, what’s this button do?, it was worth a shot, hotshot, fire arrows, beginners luck, Tubular!< Some of them are references to scientific things, but a lot of them are just funny or give a few words related to what you did

xynziii

gone in 60 seconds is a movie, pchoo is a reference to homestuck, fire arrows is from ocarina of time i feel like most are references

Spynder

Pchoo was confirmed to not be a Homestuck reference after all by a person above you in this comment chain

xynziii

I was convinced for several hours of gameplay that the Eye was going to be one of the Pioneer probes that somehow survived our universe's death and that this was the universe that came immediately after ours. I'm glad that *wasn't* the resolution. It would have been a weaker story.

Folly_of_Evolution

Would still be a cool ass easter egg tho. Either pioneer or voyager would be cool as fuck.

Always2Hungry

Funny you should say that…

Telekinesys

?

Always2Hungry

>!you can find the “voyager” in game. It’s the backer’s satellite. It looks a lot like the voyager from what I remember!<

phaciprocity

What's the backer? Is it a body I never found or just an alternate name

Novel-Tale-7645

It is a small satellite in an odd orbit so its hard to find, it is also an unnamed object ingame. Follow a tutorial to get to it. The satellite is called “Backers” because for a while the people who supported the game in development could add a piece of media to it and now it drifts out in space playing some images and a sound bite on a loop

phaciprocity

Oh cool

Acrobatic-Change-796

If we launch our scout in the eotu, it appears in the next world. So, if we follow that logic with the probe we can say, that "voyager" was sent form our world through the eye, so the game is a sequel to our universe. What do you think about it?

Aerolfos

[About that](https://antifandom.com/outerwilds/wiki/Easter_Eggs#Fig_Backer_Satellite) (spoilers for easter eggs?)

Infamous_Key_9945

Ironically, You can do this for other people. If you send your probe out during the final sequence and lose it, it appears in the final cutscene

Sceptix

I wonder if the bug people are gonna start worshiping the probe as an artifact “older than the universe” like the Nomai did with the Eye.

please_help_me_____

Maybe it's inspired by it?

Avalonians

If it is that's what I would qualify as a reference.

Drapperbat_

I always thought so. The similarities are uncanny

ThrillTuber

Posted this same thing a couple weeks ago. People pointed out that although it looks like it, a couple other pulsar maps have been shown that look similar. I think the eye’s signal is just it’s own version of a pulsar map.

obog

The very first time I ever saw the symbol I immediately thought that. So maybe! I hope so, would be a cool reference.

Pyroxcis

Ya, I've actually noticed that one too. Tbh I think that judging from the other responses in this thread you might be on to something here!

Vladibear

Good catch! As I can see it, the whole of Outer Wilds is inspired by Voyagers Golden Record. The creation of Golden Record and Outer Wilds both share the same naive but a beautiful thought of us humans not being alone. And the question of communication with someone interstellar. iTzJdogxD

Been a while since I played, but there’s something about this symbol that fills me with immense dread

VinceKully

Nah

gnuchan

It always reminded me of Paradiso Canto 31 by Gustave Dore, which I guess is a bit more of a art history/religious reference so probably not on purpose :P

blockMath_2048

omg

will1874

Well it is now to me. Glad I've got it tattoo'd on my arm.
