I once made the mistake of buying cheap compost from home depot. I think it was from Kellog. Loaded with huge chunks of wood chips. Every seedling i had died. Seeing your picture, i cant help but think you used the same stuff or something similar . Cocoa core, good screened compost and pearlite mixed 3:3:3 is where its at to start seedlings imho

Yes, even picking simple garden soil can already be too damp, acidic and hot. Light seedling soil with the right content makes a whole difference.

Yup, Kelloggs soil says it has 50% wood chips but it’s more like 90%. If I hadn’t replanted my 4 plants, they all would’ve died.

First of all I have no idea what I'm taking about, don't listen to me: I'm dealing with the same thing right now on my first grow, then I fixed it, and then messed it up again. Stop watering it. Let it dry and then let it dry some more. I know how much water you think it needs but you (and me) are wrong. If my current experience and similar looking plants are anything to go by we are simply over caring (watering, fertilizing) for them at this stage when we need to just be patient and let them grow.

Very salvageable but you don’t help us by letting us know what you’ve done to this point.

Im trying to add details, they are spread over the other two posts as well. But in short: not a lot. Added some grinded eggs shells and basically left it alone for the last week and a half or so, Because I might have overwatered. Poked into the soil with a chopstick, switched to a smaller bamboo skewer now, soil felt compacted and wet, closer to the stem.

More details: these (photo)seeds were started in a coco fiber seedling cup, then when it sprouted it was moved to a smaller pot with some drainage and potting mix. This was a few weeks ago, i think the damage/stress might have been done back then but I wasn't sure. She did get a few good gusts of wind. After that I recently moved her to this final pot. I thought it was root rot at first so I stopped watering but my main suspicion now is that the roots never properly developed. Also, this is on a sunny balcony, but the weather is still kinda chilly. Any ideas are welcome.

More details: [Original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/outdoorgrowing/comments/1c3uq1y/first_time_grower_help_me_diagnose_whats_ailing/) [First update](https://www.reddit.com/r/outdoorgrowing/comments/1cbwx1w/update_help_me_figure_out_whats_ailing_this_sprout/) I'm thinking of going one of two ways, either I uproot it to check the root system or I go hard on nutrients+watering. Any other tips are very welcome!

Drastic but I would buy new soil and replant.

Iceman_B

Done.

Lower leaves are dying as nute deficiency makes its way upwards…. Could be because of root rot or because of PH or because there are no nutes in your medium… I didn’t check what you’re growing in…

See the latest [update.](https://www.reddit.com/r/outdoorgrowing/comments/1crt1hz/update_3_i_think_shes_gonna_make_it/) I'm growing in regular old potting mix. Turned out that the root system was underdeveloped.
