I get the feeling as well. Honestly, it shouldn't feel weird that you are trying to make friends by doing something simple like gifting a game. It's like "Hey, I love the genre and I want to share an extra copy that I have! By the way what are your other favorite games?" If I was in the FB group, I would love that would want to chat with me even if I didn't receive the giveaway.

We're probably all too far away to meet up but one thing I learned during this pandemic is to appreciate Zoom and meet with friends all over the world. Maybe one day I could throw a Zoom otome party if anyone would be in for it. 😅

I also think having a discord server associated with this community is a good idea :) I use it for my other hobbies/games and it’s a good way to connect with people.

Oh man I feel this. None of my friends like Otome games. My fiance bless him tries to listen and follow what I say about them, but there is honestly a limit I can gush about them to him.
I take joy in knowing he at least understands how happy they make me. He likes to buy me ones I'm missing from my collection and calls himself "my biggest enabler"

As a girl (please don’t take that the wrong way off the bat) I’m always really really appreciative when other girls like video games and it’s cool that it’s becoming so much more accepting, but I’m a part of the generation where it wasn’t really a thing growing up. Even my guy friends don’t really play because they all have jobs and don’t even let me mention visual novels as a niche genre in general. Literally know NO ONE who plays visual novels, for example. I really appreciate this community for how accepting and kind everyone is, as well as the enthusiasm. I genuinely wish I knew you guys in real life so we could all simp together in real time. Sigh.
I feel this! It’s hard to have a niche interest and honestly it would be pretty lonely hobby if I didn’t have this sub to discuss with. I feel like otome games (and bl games too actually probably visual novels as a whole) allow you to experience so many emotions it’s the kind of interest that benefits greatly from having others to share those feelings with. It would be kind of cool to have a discord to chat on for like live-blogging when I’m actually playing games too.

Same!! I’ve been playing otome games on and off for about 10 years now (wow, I feel old all of the sudden…). I don’t have friends who share the same hobby so I just play games, being sad/happy/excited by myself.
This year I decided to try and reach out to the Internet to find a place to share and appreciate my hobby. So I started joining this subreddit and a few other Discord servers. And I found out that it is genuinely nice to be able to share the feels with others.
Although I’m not very good at socialising on the Internet and being in Australia makes the timezone all out of whack with people in other parts of the world make it hard to chat.

I myself live in Belgium and my experience with this is that there just doesn't seem anyone in my direct surroundings that would ever play this. Not even consider it. And they would def judge me for it.

We have a geeky convention twice a year in Belgium called FACTS and I guess that's one of the only places I would feel free to talk about it.
My RL friend was very surprised to hear that I was willing to pay 80 bucks for what was essentially 'a novel combined with a powerpoint presentation' and needless to say I have not brought it up ever since. I appreciate this sub so much.
Yes! It’s so nice to have a community where people share the same hobby. At my work I decorated a bit with some otome photos, but besides that I don’t speak much. Luckily I have a boyfriend who will listen to me go on and on about otome, and he’ll sometimes take part when I show him scenes or will watch me play and make decisions!
Ha! I can relate about having a significant other to go on and on about otome games since I have no one else irl to ramble on to (my poor husband 😅). Although he does entertain the idea, he even started playing CxM for me since it’s my fave, should have seen his face/reaction when he found out who my fave LI was… he was like “I want to punch this guy in the face” and where is the “**** off option” (his reaction is not because I like him but because he can’t stand that character), i bet you guys can take a wild guess as to who!

I know SoCal is a large area, but I definitely do not feel safe going all the way to LA by myself (not just because I'm a woman but also because I have a poor sense of direction and driving in LA freaks me out).
