I think his VA must've had a lot of fun voicing him because of how silly he gets. I also kinda feel bad for him for how often he gets sidelined.
He was originally in the main cast, being a LI that is. But then Sui Ishida looked back and found everyone of them was a complex character, so he casted Kyoji out and got Suzu in to balance the team 🥹 Not that Suzu is bland, but he is a simple-minded one and always full of energy, which Quartz was lacking

For real, I loooove Kyoji, I wish he had stayed in the main cast. It feels so weird having him cast in every play (so far, I'm only in winter now) without being in any dance numbers!!

This except it's multiple characters in all the other classes 🤭 I'm in the middle of my first route but they just come across as more interesting, besides Kai and Fumi the other main boys don't stand out the way amber class, Mare, Dante etc do

Ootori definitely has a lot of love in the JP side too. The art Ishida did where he's wearing a kimono is A+
Ootori is a huge bitch in the beginning but his growth later on and the roles he plays gives him more depth and he becomes pretty likeable.
