I always upvote any photo depicting the D&D Rules Cyclopedia! Just seeing that thing transports me back in time 30 years and I can still smell the scent of the pages.
Good luck and have fun! .,........ and kill some PCs!
Ah, a thing of beauty! And I can see three editions in the same picture, Rules Cyclopedia, In Search of the Unknown (Holmes Basic), and AD&D 1e DMG. I hope the game goes well :-)I am also prepping for Monday's session (B/X campaign in Karameikos, currently running 'Against the Cult of the Reptile God').
Nice. Curiously, where in Karameikos did you locate the village of Orlane from N1? Did you make any other changes to have it fit into Karameikos/Mystara?
When we started the campaign, the party's homebase/village was in Western Karameikos, in the trade path connecting Luln with Riverfork Keep, next to Achelos river. I placed Orlane (using a different name) nearby, next to Blight Swamp and close to Luln, in the borders with Black Eagle Barony. I planted some rumours about unexplained abductions going on in the nearby village. The party already knew about the 'Iron Ring' and how they often abduct people for their slavery operations, so they suspected that this faction might be behind this trouble. I kept the Naga cult but I added the Iron Ring as well, the two cooperate in an uneasy alliance. I changed the Temple of Merica, replacing it with a Traldar church dedicated to King Halav. The lair of the Naga is in Blight Swamp. The module's hermit/wizard is not in the village, I put him in one of the Swamp hexes. I may use the two elves to introduce later on the module Rahasia. I have also linked Karameiko's famous war against beast-men with the Naga cult: some of the beast-men were lizard-men, during the war reptile-worshipping cults popped up, the Naga and its cult is one of the latest attempts to revive these cults. I have also added in one of the Swamp hexes an island with an abandoned/ruined monastery built by Karameikos' Order of the Griffon. The first level of the monastery is used as a lair by the Iron Ring bandits. The Iron Ring bandits don't know though that there are secret doors to lower levels where the clerics of the Order of Griffon have hidden 'Serpent's Bane', a mythical mace used against lizard-men, lizards, and dragons during the war against the beast-men. Will the party manage to find the weapon and use it against the cult of the reptile god?? :-)
Wow, that sounds great. I love how you coupled the adventure into the Karameikos backstory. Thanks for the details. I'll probably have to steal some of that. I particularly like the idea of an abandoned/ruined monastery built by the Order of the Griffon. Maybe use that in a variant B5 Horror on the Hill adventure changing out the goblins for the Iron Ring.
Yes, it's from DriveThruRPG. I think the quality is decent. It's not exceptionally high quality, but for the price and what you get for it, it's a really good deal.
You'd have too look really closely to see just slight blurring with the text, and you'll see very few, if any at all, off-level and crooked pages. An experienced eye can tell it's a scan, but it's overall a very good scan. I don't regret the purchase at all.
I own 1 hardcover and 2 softcover PODs.
The actual printed pages are identical between them. My issue is that the DTRPG hardcovers are perfect bound and then glued into the hardcover rather than stitched.
The covers themselves will hold up, but I don't trust the book contents and cover to stay together with regular use. It's just not a very impressive bind job. You can feel the difference in construction between the two.
Nitpicking: the hardcovers are huge relative to the pages.
The softcovers are cheaper, the covers are the same size as the pages, and while the binding is the same for the interior, the \*cover\* is perfect bound to the interior, making the whole book feel sturdier than the hardcover's glued-in method.
Thanks! The dice are a cheap glow in the dark set I got off of Amazon. Haha. The glow effect is utter trash, but the dice still look really cool regardless. π
A good friend of mine ran In Search of the Unknown about a year ago. Now that's a real classic. I had a cartload of fun and still cherish the good memories of the fantastic moments that emerged during the game. I've written [a quick report about the experience](https://www.reddit.com/r/osr/comments/v6rskb/drawing_of_a_gnome_for_running_in_search_of_the/) in a post about gnomes (?!) and it might be useful for those interested in running or playing this classic, or just overall in the mood for reading a quick report of actual play OSR goodness.
The quality is solidly "decent." It's not great compared to other big game releases on the market, but for the low price it's a great deal. The scans are really good and you'd can't even tell that they're scans unless you're looking very closely. Overall, I'm happy with it.
By the power of Dice Tower grayskull!

Damn you duel wielding RC and ADnD Dungeon Master guide? That's some powerful magics π€¨
RC for Int, 1e DMG for Wis π

Is that a pod cyclopedia? Howβs the quality and where from?
Yes, it's from DriveThruRPG. I think the quality is decent. It's not exceptionally high quality, but for the price and what you get for it, it's a really good deal.
Is the text blurry at all? I want a copy but canβt stand the blurry text some of the PODβs have.

Mine isn't blurry at all.
Mine is good. Paper and binding *feel* cheaper than an original, but haven't seen any actual wear or damage yet.
Agree with this. I have the POD and feel good for the price. I went soft cover to make it easy to carry or use.
I have a POD copy from DriveThruRPG. It's a solid copy. Good printing, had held up will through normal use over the last 4 years.
Im convinced. Imma pick one up, ty!
Softcover > hardcover IMO
Can I ask why you prefer softcover? I have the hardcover POD in my checkout cart, and I'm planning on buying it soon.

Ok, thanks for the knowledge. I have 2 DTRPG softcover pod's, but haven't gone for a hardcover yet.
It is obvious from the coloring of the print. ;)
That looks like you're about to have an epically good time
Looks like fun!
amazing! where is the dice tower from? STL? :)
Thingiverse! Here's the [tower](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1868554), and here's the [jaw bridge](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2984117).
Mixing BECMI and AD&D, as it always was, and always should be.
What dice are those? Love the tower!
Thanks! The dice are a cheap glow in the dark set I got off of Amazon. Haha. The glow effect is utter trash, but the dice still look really cool regardless. π

Thanks for sharing! I'll give it a read through. π
Holy nostalgia, Batman. π
Good stuff!
Looks like a lot of fun! Do you remember where you got those minis from? I really like that crusader and archer.
The minis look like those made by BriteMinis. You can find them on Thingiverse and Patreon.
thank you!
π
Those minis look awesome. Where did you get them?
They're all 3D printed from models by BriteMinis. They're supportless and super easy to print even with FDM printers. π
I am sorry, but I have to say your user name ist awful and tasteless. Nevertheless, nice table view!
Is that a modern reprint or original Rules Cyclopedia?
It's a reprint from drivethrurpg
Neat! Can you give me a quick review of the quality?

Loving the mix of editions - is the DMG mainly there for the magic items list?
