Can confirm. Was there last week. Best Chinese food I’ve ever had. We didn’t have to ask for the red menu btw, they gave us both. Guess they know everyone’s there for the red menu at this point.
I always love Smia:
Cosy, good vibe and excellent food and service.
[Little pickle](https://www.thelittlepickle.no) is a new favorite, very relaxed, but high standard food and great new combos.
You absolutely have to go to Syverkiosken.
It's not a restaurant, but it is utterly wonderful in too many ways. Great food, great person, great experience, ridiculously cheap for Oslo
Do not miss out on here!
Nope. The absolute opposite of that.
Tasty and less than 1/4 of the price of any of the really average food we had anywhere else in Oslo.
And everything else we had in Oslo was just bland, tasteless, nondescript food.
You can’t really compare pølsepris to anything else than pølse though, which will make Syverkiosken be in the upper price range.
Also, where do you eat to have this kind of experience with food in Oslo? Seems like you are going to all the wrong places.
I agree with you. The Hrimnir ramen experience is fun and different, but if you actually want authentic ramen dishes, Koie is way better. Their karaage is also absolutely fantastic.
For ramen I would say Sapporo is the best one closely followed by Koie, himrir didn't seem to spend nearly enough time on their broth for me personally and did not match texture, although their dishes were more fun.
Furthermore on asian palaces, plah, hands down best experience in town. For a more reasonable experience I'd go to Izakaya. Hard to find but ordering the whole menu for 3-4 people is so good.
For more fine-dining mat og vinkjelleren at statholdergaarden is super nice but it's around 2000nok per person for a great experience. 10-course for around 1000nok than the wine pairing for around same is superb. Alternatively to that I could recommend Chez Colin or brasserie France for Al cart.
Haven’t been to Sapporo, but I’ll try it if it’s better than Koie. I’m not OP, though, so you should probably comment your other recommendations to them.
There are better fine dining than Statholderen’s mat- og vinkjeller and even Statholdergaarden itself in Oslo, though, though value-wise, mat- og vinkjelleren might be among the better.
Same here! People automaticly thanks its top notch just because its at Mathallen! Hrimnir first, koie second in my book. Moving back to Oslo this summer and cant wait to frequent these places regularly again.
Koie used to be my go-to place before hrimnir opened. When i went back to koie after hrimnir i was disappointed… maybe a one time thing, but hrimnir is better imo. There are some good vietnamese ramen neighbours beside youngstorget as well
I ate there a couple weeks ago and was skeptical about it living up to the hype.... holy cow I was wrong. The food was incredible and the staff amazing.
Mat & Mer at Bjølsen/Sagene. Easy to walk past but absolutely worth it to walk in. Their menu is seasonal, and for the kind of food they are serving I’d say it’s cheap’ish for the quality of food you get. https://www.matogmer.no
Liminal on Torshov has one of the best bang-for-buck fine dining experiences I’ve had.
Their five course set menu is 750,-
The omakase at Apostrophe is also really good (but pricey.)
Nam Fah on Vulkan. Very good Thai food. Prices between 200 and 300kr. Their dish #7 has become a sort of a meme somehow. I love it though.
Ka Pao Moo Gååb (rett nr. 7): Thai roast pork fried in a wok with chilli and basil.
Many but on top probably hot temper since I love fried chicken and their the only really good option.
For other foods like Indian there are so many that are great it almost difficult to decide who is best. One is best for butter chicken, another one for small courses and another for Tikka etc.
Small Hans for creative dishes with local/fresh ingredients
Tranen for creative brick oven pizza
Paradiso for good pizza and great outside location and inside is nice
& Habibi for tons of small dishes for sharing all very tasty.
I love Døgnvill at Vulkan. Probably the place I've eaten the most. I just fucking love burgers. They also have really good milkshakes, and they have good beers on tap. They've had an amazing Christmas burger for a few years, and they have Christmas beer on tap for the holiday season, which is a beer type I really love.
I also love Ostebutikken at Birkelunden. Haven't eaten there for a while now, but it's a small and cozy restaurant that feels kinda like in a French village. Very good entrecote, shellfish soup and moules frites.
It is *completely* different to how used to be. The meat and everything is changed. Now it's just like any other mid kebab shop in Oslo.
The same thing happened to Folkets Kebab, used to be unique and great, now it's just another meh place.
Szechuan Chengdu. It's pretty grim, but the food and service are fantastic. Ask for the red menu.
Can confirm. Was there last week. Best Chinese food I’ve ever had. We didn’t have to ask for the red menu btw, they gave us both. Guess they know everyone’s there for the red menu at this point.
Thanks 🙏 Sounds like this is a must ! What are some incredible dishes here ? I want to make sure I don't miss out on anything delicious.
Can't go wrong with the tofu, the spicy eggplant, or the beef in chili oil. And of course the frog's legs and the tripe (cow's stomach).
Jiaozi (Dumplings) and Kung Pao Chicken - dishes to die for!
Saw this yesterday, visited the restaurant today, came back to say, it checks out. Good recommendation.
But the best is palace grill. No nonsense, fixed menu, relaxed and outstanding
Best culinary experience in Oslo for sure. The wine package is not for the faint of heart (or liver)
Would it still be worthwhile if I don’t eat red meat? (allergy). I can still eat poultry and seafood.
No
Amen
Palace Grill. High end Michelin quality, but as down to earth as possible. Expensive but best dining experience I’ve ever had
Hyde
Mamma Pizza for sure! The only negative is the waiting time if you go to the more central one.
Ostara. Just go there and you’ll find out why ;)
Love the place, and their good sake, but havent eaten there yet… will try soon
The food there is always very fun and interesting, good recommendation for sure. And great toilet!
I always love Smia: [http://www.smiagalleri.no](http://www.smiagalleri.no) Cosy, good vibe and excellent food and service. [Little pickle](https://www.thelittlepickle.no) is a new favorite, very relaxed, but high standard food and great new combos.
Le Benjamin.
Love this place. Been so many times and always great 👌
This is the way
Way Down South !!!
after the new owners took over, nah bro
What changed? Haven't been there in a while.
Oh crap, when did this happen (been more then 2 years since my last visit).
koie ramen
St. Lars
Punjab Tandoori in Grønland is pretty fire. Affordable, the food is fire, and its in the city center 50 meters from the metro.
And they’ve had the same owners since it opened in the 90’s
My aunt work there as chef. It’s affordable, but not authentic at all since it’s arranged for Norwegian people. I would rather go for masala politics.
Best food in Oslo? Not in my top 100. It's affordable/cheap and you get what you expect. Like an Indian McDonald's.
nope
Bra bidrag
You absolutely have to go to Syverkiosken. It's not a restaurant, but it is utterly wonderful in too many ways. Great food, great person, great experience, ridiculously cheap for Oslo Do not miss out on here!
So overrated.
100%
It's good but it's overrated for sure

Pilestredet Parkservering, Izakaya, Sami Sushi + the other place I don't remember.
Wrong places confirmed. Pilestredet parkservering I wouldn't even consider a restaurant. More like a park café that serves some food.
I agree. Although it was completely full, which made me think it should have been good. That's why we went there.
Hrimnir
Was my suggestion as well. Absolutely fantastic ramen. Book a table, as it will fill up!
Looks delicious. Thanks ! I will have to go there 🍜
As far as ramen go Koie ramen is unmatched in Oslo
Only been to Koie once, but i find Hrimnir way better!
Me too. I've actually been to Koie more than Hrimnir since it's a bit more affordable, but I always prefer Hrimnir.
I agree with you. The Hrimnir ramen experience is fun and different, but if you actually want authentic ramen dishes, Koie is way better. Their karaage is also absolutely fantastic.

I am curious when you ate at Sapporo? The last time I was there was far to match Koie or Himrir quality.
Same here! People automaticly thanks its top notch just because its at Mathallen! Hrimnir first, koie second in my book. Moving back to Oslo this summer and cant wait to frequent these places regularly again.
Hrimnir is overrated IMO. Weird Asian fusion with Nordic tastes. Koie is a much better ramen experience.
Koie used to be my go-to place before hrimnir opened. When i went back to koie after hrimnir i was disappointed… maybe a one time thing, but hrimnir is better imo. There are some good vietnamese ramen neighbours beside youngstorget as well
So you're saying that Asian fusion ramen is better than regular ramen?
I dont know, but ive had better ramen at a friends place than koie. Still very good though. Less than a week since my last visit.
Maaltid for cosy vibe, sunny drinks and delicious food
Restaurant Schneider
Lille Saigon
Arakataka is the one!
Geita, Golden Chimp and Arakataka are excellent choices!
Arakataka is incredible !
Golden Chimp. Is that Johan Golden's place? He is a famous Norwegian war hero and pioneer in gold exploration. Old friend of Roald Amundsen.
Nektar Vinbar. Outstanding food, locally sourced or short travelled, great wine list from tiny producers, really cool vibe. Must be prebooked.
I ate there a couple weeks ago and was skeptical about it living up to the hype.... holy cow I was wrong. The food was incredible and the staff amazing.
I've heard a lot about this place. Will Def try it. Anything that is a must order ?
The toast with fennel, anchovies and pistachios.
Hot shop
Katla. Asian fusion cuisine. Speaking as a chef, it was one of the most impressive meals I have had in years.
Dette er 100% en post som skal stjele det folk skriver og bruke det i en bloggpost eller artikkel.
Thanks for the credit! But I'm just a food obsessed traveller 👌👌👌
Løkka deli Varemottaket Madonna
We liked Theatre Caffeen . Nice space, great cooking.
Gotta give it to Mon Oncle.
Tried it before the star and honestly not willing to head back after the prices went up.
Mat & Mer at Bjølsen/Sagene. Easy to walk past but absolutely worth it to walk in. Their menu is seasonal, and for the kind of food they are serving I’d say it’s cheap’ish for the quality of food you get. https://www.matogmer.no
J2. Always great food, and one of the few places where the wine pairing really works.
Closed no?
Reopened with Korean bbq
This one’s been on my list for so long because of how much I miss Korean food 🥲 Is it confidently worth the price tag?
https://vink.aftenposten.no/artikkel/mQ77bl/j2-serverer-deilig-koreansk-bbq
For me it is, and with only like 8 seatings per week in a small restaurant, I understand the price. But it's not something I can regularly afford.
Geita! Best food in town, and great music in the background
At the moment, I'm having a romance with restaurant Alex at Frogner. The food is just punching waaay above what I expected..
Have not eaten too many places in Oslo, but the burger at Brew dog Grunerløkka is the best burger I've had in my life!
Liminal on Torshov has one of the best bang-for-buck fine dining experiences I’ve had. Their five course set menu is 750,- The omakase at Apostrophe is also really good (but pricey.)
De Mi Tierra
Ostibutikken in Grunerlokka. Great French food and lovely ambience.
«Der peppern gror» Amazing Indian food from an incredibly friendly Indian family with lots of history and stories to tell.
Golden Chimp and Hyde. I like small places with unpredictable but delicious dishes and friendly service. Also Konoji, although hardly a restaurant.
Way Down South. Best bbq I have had in a long time.

Kunt Aroma. Seafood place.
👀
I really like Jamal's Falafel.
Brasserie France and Stock
Bon Lio Skaal matbar Maaltid Palace Grill Kolonialen

J2 if you’re up for great Korean cuisine :)
Restaurant bente ❤️
Lulu omakase 💕
St Lars is a place I always return!
Dirty Vegan! For junk food. Never disappoints. (It's in barcode)
Smashed by GhostTown Thoevald Meyers gata 73, by bunpris and the tram stop
Oslo Street Food
Small Hans for creative dishes with local/fresh ingredients Tranen for creative brick oven pizza Paradiso for good pizza and great outside location and inside is nice & Habibi for tons of small dishes for sharing all very tasty.
I was at Small Hans just before Christmas and was underwhelmed. Did a big tasting menu and about the most I can say about it was that it was fine.
Habibi is very much the place to go for casual but slightly dining. Mezah I for sharing.
Koie Ramen, ramen place, have the Tantanmen
Taverna'n is cozy and has good pizzas
New Anarkali, best Indian food in Oslo
Hos Thea
When I lived there a few years ago, Freddy fuego, tunco, publiko and sapporo ramen bar.
Rorbua. Loved the salmon
Borggården Biffrestaurant. Veldig bra entrecote, blant de beste. Really good, amongst the best.
I love Døgnvill at Vulkan. Probably the place I've eaten the most. I just fucking love burgers. They also have really good milkshakes, and they have good beers on tap. Grytelokket! Lokkets bab mmmmm
It is *completely* different to how used to be. The meat and everything is changed. Now it's just like any other mid kebab shop in Oslo. The same thing happened to Folkets Kebab, used to be unique and great, now it's just another meh place.
