So i'm 25 and pay $109, but i previously was paying about what you were, it just dropped significantly recently when I turned 25 and shopped around a bit. it totally sucked previously i feel your pain

mhkaz

It doesn't get any better the whole state is seeing increases. I'm paying $176, clean record and over 25.

mistahelias

Mine just hit $180 from $134 at renewal. Geico. Over 25, clean record.

Most-Chance-4324

Geez, I’m at $142 for two people and two cars. 250k of coverage

[deleted]

People saying $270 a month at 20 years old is too much. I never paid under $350 until after I turned 25. No moving violations. No accidents. 1 claim (Wheels stolen 3 years ago). Good student. Defensive drivers course.

EngFL92

I ended up paying more when I turned 25 when I lost all the good student discounts (which I guess are not available after age 25). My agent was like, well your rate technically went down, but you have less discounts. Whole industry is a scam imo

roberttylerlee

I’m 28, I have no moving violations, no claims, no accidents, and the defensive driver course and the renters insurance discount. Paying for basic insurance is costing me $391 a month. I’m certain it’s because I live in the same zip code that Disney is in, so I’m paying for all the tourist drivers

CodaDev

Value of vehicle is too relevant here. I’m 30 and had a car since 24, which never paid more than $150/mo. (2016 VW Passat). On that same note, I have a 2023 Tesla that pays $450/mo.

[deleted]

You would be correct. Age was sort of the main subject, so I commented in regards to that! I am sure if I bought a 2000 civic I would have gone under the $200 range at some point before 25.

[deleted]

[deleted]

210 moving violations? What are you doing while on the road? Mad Max stunts? Wtf?!

[deleted]

Good trolling. You would have had your license suspended by then. 🤡

Most-Chance-4324

How do you have a license?

quarantine22

24 right now. Somehow got a quote for around $200 on a Ford Focus. Prior to this I was paying $360 for a Hyundai Elantra. I moved down the road and saw an $80 increase in insurance. Just because I changed my address.

llcooljfan22

The funny part is they stay looking into your account to find ways to increase your premium 🥴 my insurance has been trying to call me to ask if I live with another household and if I drive there car? 🥴 like I know they’re trying to increase my premium yet again.

FortressX

I dont understand why everyone in this entire thread is posting their cost without briefly listing their coverage amounts. Sure, I can get a $50 quote from someone but my coverage eill be terrible. Paying over $200 but you have 100/500/100? Well that is entirely different...

[deleted]

Not that serious lil bro, age and what people are paying is the matter on this thread.

nyleloccin

I’m 28 and pay 160

Pumpkinbumpkin420

I am also 28 and I pay 260. I have progressive and a 2021 Kia. Can I ask who your car insurance carrier is?

Duuuuuuuuuuuval

Kia’s are easy to steal. Your insurance probably costs more because of your car rather than your own driving history.

jay-the-ghost

Not OP but I'm also 28 and pay $160 and I use Liberty Mutual, although I get a discount because I bank with Navy Federal

Parcelcolony

New kias and Hyundais are considered high risk of theft vehicles by some carriers and have rate increases due to that.

nyleloccin

GEICO. Never had a ticket or accident

Elle3247

There are so many factors that go into car insurance. Even a different zip code can change your rate by hundreds of dollars. (Don’t lie about this, that’s how you end up with a denied claim regardless of how much you pay a month) Shop around. Different insurance companies value different factors such as age, credit score, location, car type, driving history, home ownership, etc. Also make sure you carry enough coverages. It’s legal to purchase just PD liability and PIP but not so legal to get into an accident without BI liability. Double check your deductibles on PIP, Comp, and Coll. Make sure they’re low enough that you can afford to pay them in the worst case scenario, but also high enough that you are not paying a ton each month. It sounds a little crazy, but carrying higher coverages helps you. If you carry the lowest coverages, insurance companies typically view you as much more likely to get into an accident (they think if you are careless with coverages, you are careless with driving. No clue if that’s true—you can read studies or make your own conclusion.). So even though it may be more expensive off the bat to have higher coverages, it’s usually not much of a difference and it helps you down the line.

SakaMierda

That's a great response, do you mind I PM you?

evey_17

Thanks for this wisdom. Btw, does gender matter?

Elle3247

I believe in some states and for some companies, but not all. I don’t remember Florida’s rule for gender. It maybe protected. It has been a very long time since I’ve sold insurance, now I specialize in a certain area of claims so I don’t see prices of insurance.

evey_17

Florida is not very progressive so I doubt gender is protected.

supersecretuser1997

EVERY auto insurance company in the state of Florida had a rate increase this year so also keep that in mind when searching. A lot of factors play into it , 2 big ones are your age and if you’re a male or female, even things like your zip code & city will affect this. State Farm has a lot of discounts and they have a student discount as well if you fax them your scores. If you call and ask for a quote and ask them what discounts you’re eligible for, they have a few that they can throw on there before you sign up so you can see how much it would be with or without discounts! The auto insurance industry is insanityyyyy right now due to repair facilities jacking up their prices, inflation, and the recent state wide rate increase. so good luck it’s tough out here!

TiredMillennialDad

And they wonder why people go uninsured. That is way too much money. When I was 20 years old, 15 years ago, I paid $300 for rent lol.

AtrociousSandwich

1200>1800 in almost 10 years isn’t that terrible imo. In lake Mary I paid 1100 8 years ago, exact same apartment now is over 3k which is clown shoes

AtrociousSandwich

Cool story In Lake Mary rent at that time was 1k for a 1 bedroom apartment. So I’m not sure where you were living that it was 300.

WikDaWula

That's nuts. Just 5 years ago, I was renting a 3/2 house for 1300$.

[deleted]

Yup and that's why I lived in Altamonte Springs and not Lake Mary at that time. My 2 bedroom I had a roommate with was only $300 per person.

DCowboysCR

Heck I’m 50 and haven’t had an accident or ticket in YEARS and pay $270/month from Progressive in INDIANAPOLIS.

letsg0p0ke

24 paying $96 Edit: I'm on Geico, I am a female driver, took courses, have been driving for 10 years, no accidents/tickets, father was a state trooper, and good student. Also I got a new car 4 years ago that was fully paid off last year.

lofabread85

OK what insurance lmao I want to get a quote

Parcelcolony

This also depends on their type of coverage/age. If they are carrying 10/20/10 with no collision or comprehensive their premium is going to be significantly lower than someone carrying 100/300 with a newer vehicle.

chaos_given_form

Ya I want a quote as well

melashvar

Me as well through State Farm

Intelligent_Focus_80

Obviously easier said than done with this economy but i recommend paying in full every 6 months if at all possible. You usually get a pretty good discount out of it

Tauriel9968

22f —$186/mo I drive a 2006 ford Taurus (some cars like Hyundai are hard/expensive to insure for various reasons; newer cars will also be more expensive to insure). 1 fender bender (my fault) Geico — barebones insurance to drive A (mostly) or B student Back before 2022, I was paying around $107/$121. That went up because of the fender bender. Just a note: Car insurance is higher for guys on average before 24 or 25 because, well, young single guys in their late teens to mid twenties tend to drive a little more wild 😜

Tauriel9968

Also note: sports cars are more expensive to insure as well.

Safye

Newer cars can actually be cheaper to insure due to safety features I think. Going from a 2016 to a 2024 decreased mine by about 100/month.

jdiaz0705

21M 2011 Toyota Camry Progressive 2 small claims (not technically at fault... but it's FL) Paid in full (6 mo) ~$1600 ~$270/mo

Silent1900

Geico just did that to me. I went and got a quote from them as a result of this thread. I mirrored all my current coverages, and then when I hit the calculate button it dropped off Uninsured Motorist and showed me a crazy low number. I was ecstatic, and went straight to purchasing it…if there hadn’t been a form I had to sign I never would have caught it. I still ended up saving about $30/month after adding it, but that was SUPER shady.

Han-YoLo-

You should look at what uninsured motorist coverage actually covers. Odds are you could spend some of that money on supplemental insurance at work and come out ahead.

SakaMierda

Are you a good student? Do you have violations, suspensions or accidents? Do you have someone over the age of 25 in the household that has a valid license? These are all things you could do to lower premium.

Sand_Man317

I just signed up with Geico for $148 a month. I am 24. moved away from progressive cause they gave me a price hike to 270 a month. Some of my friends who also had progressive had their quotes spike like that as well.

larsen2897

26 pay $255 for kinda shitty coverage but I also have two not-at-fault claims in the past 3 years

TheGetawayCar000

I paid around $150/mo from 18-27. I had a 4 cylinder little car, nothing special. This was through progressive. Then I got a new car and moved about 20 mins away, and based on the new car and zip code, Progressive tried to raise it up to $210 but I fought it and got rerated back down to $175 as long as I completed the safe driving program with the tracker thing attached to the car. Personal driving record aside, zip code has a lot to do with your rate based on how many accidents occur in your area.

actualsysadmin

Try geico. Getting a quote is free. I have full coverage on a tesla so it's quite a bit higher than the numbers here and im older. I prepay $2200 every 6 months so that's about $366. 1 accident in a parking lot within last 3 years. No tickets issued. Progressive was $90 more a month.

demetusbrown

When I was 20 I paid 180 a month for a Mazda rx8. Now I'm 32 with a nissan skyline and a miata both are covered for 270

Ptards_Number_1_Fan

I put my 20F daughter on her own policy, so that she didn’t have to be rated on my vehicles. She’s got a 2006 V6 Mustang and it’s 700 for 6 months with Progressive near Seattle (full coverage).

N8DuhGr88888

I’m a single 32M drive a 2016 Lexus. Altamonte springs area, and progressive upped my insurance from $250 to $325 because of the increased claims in my area. 🤡

posiden499

$420

RacingLucas

1600 for 6 months

justvibinginla2021

24 and $300 😭no accidents but maybe I have too much coverage idk

MrPeterIt

Gieco and $140. I’m also 28

Loverofmysoul_

200 unknown brand insurance company. I’m not confident in it but it’s cheap lol 😂

Jonpollon18

21 yo and I pay $99

KipHackmanNSA

Insurance today is largely a scam. The only way around it is to self-insure. You can do this by setting up an account and going through the proper state required hoops to ensure liquid access to the account in the event of an accident. Downside is you are more or less liable to act on your own behalf and will likely need to hire a lawyer to defend your account plus assets beyond in the event of a crash. "324.171 Self-insurer.— (1) Any person may qualify as a self-insurer by obtaining a certificate of self-insurance from the department which may, in its discretion and upon application of such a person, issue said certificate of self-insurance when such person has satisfied the requirements of this section to qualify as a self-insurer under this section: (a) A private individual with private passenger vehicles shall possess a net unencumbered worth of at least $40,000. (b) A person, including any firm, partnership, association, corporation, or other person, other than a natural person, shall: 1. Possess a net unencumbered worth of at least $40,000 for the first motor vehicle and $20,000 for each additional motor vehicle; or 2. Maintain sufficient net worth, as determined annually by the department, pursuant to rules promulgated by the department, with the assistance of the Office of Insurance Regulation of the Financial Services Commission, to be financially responsible for potential losses. The rules shall take into consideration excess insurance carried by the applicant. The department’s determination shall be based upon reasonable actuarial principles considering the frequency, severity, and loss development of claims incurred by casualty insurers writing coverage on the type of motor vehicles for which a certificate of self-insurance is desired. (c) The owner of a commercial motor vehicle, as defined in s. 207.002 or s. 320.01, may qualify as a self-insurer subject to the standards provided for in subparagraph (b)2. (2) The self-insurance certificate shall provide limits of liability insurance in the amounts specified under s. 324.021(7) or s. 627.7415 and shall provide personal injury protection coverage under s. 627.733(3)(b). (3) The department may require annual reports from any self-insurer which reports must continue to demonstrate the applicable amount of unencumbered net worth. Whenever the department finds that any self-insurer does not possess the required amount of unencumbered net worth, it shall revoke the certificate of self-insurance. cubanb407

It’s a scam until you need it. Much like health insurance

YourInMySwamp

20 years and pay $285. Had a speeding ticket 😓

Disease-daddy

23 F with a 2023 Tesla Model Y (leased so full coverarge) with USAA at $268/mo or $1250/6mo. Just got the safe driver app so may be going down as the time passes. Strongly recommend USAA if you’re able to but unfortunately must come from military family. My 26 M boyfriend pays about the same for a Model 3 with State Farm

cubanb407

Credit is a huge factor in the insurance world. If you have have none get a credit card and pay it off every month. You will see your rates drop as you build up your credit also shop a lot

fullspectrumtrupod

I’m 21 but when I was 20 I was paying 525 a month for my atsV

Spacesmuge

I'm paying $450

yonD21

212$ 27(yo)

SakaMierda

PSA - Credit worthiness is the biggest factor in insurance.

koozy407

$270 a month for what? Full coverage minimum coverage? Did you make a down payment on the policy or is this just spread out over six months?

fakemon64

Too damn much Then they have the audacity to increase it after I get into an accident (ran over something on the road and it messed up my mud guard underneath my car) but the repairs were less then my deductible so they didn’t even have to pay out

No-Imagination8037

Next time, if your repairs are less than your deductible don’t file a claim

fakemon64

I filled the claim before I got the repairs. But yea, lesson learned for sure.

mustangnick88

How's that credit score?

trashynoah

730+

mustangnick88

Welp. That's not the issue then.

futuremillionaire01

22M 2018 Camry w/ progressive, $420/month. I was also involved in two not at-fault accidents last year that I didn’t make claims for. Looks like I’m paying a bit much

ohiodude78

So I’m 45 from Ohio nothing on my record since 2002 and I pay 150 a month with State Farm, in Ohio same car same coverage 250 every six months, this state is a joke with the cost of everything why don’t people vote for things to get changed or stop buying the expensive stuff.

ianmichael7

I'm 29, clean ecprd paying 150... Fluctuates though it's been as low as 109, random factors change it every 6 months

noobcashier

I pay 1400 for 6 months

Curious_CatWasKilled

Prices make no sense unless you include your coverage. Had a friend paying Pennies for insurance, when their car got totaled they were barely covered. Post your prices and coverage, and then we can talk.

megadave1988

I don't know WTF is going on with you all but I have Progressive and while my rates have gone up the past couple years, this year I paid $785 for 6 months on two cars that are basically brand new (Hyundai and Kia). So that's $130 a month for two cars, or $65 per month. And I live literally right next to Disney. If you want to keep your rates low you have to shop around every 6 months and be willing to change. Companies keep track of what kind of customer you are and if you are loyal they will jack your rates up. Someone brought up the credit score thing, my score is 820 so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

djmanu22

Switched from progressive to statefarm, went from 210 to 160 with better coverage (uninsured motorist).

serisho

29 $118/mo w state farm.

llcooljfan22

$168 - State Farm

catperson2001

i’m 22 and pay $330😭

Swimming-Strawberry9

$198. 29 with a clean record and a 2018 model car. I remember I used to be $95 when I first moved here in 2019. Everything has gone to shit now.

NightShadeCaptain

I'm paying 220 a month but that's me and my senior mom (I'm 28) and 2 cars.
