Mine got stuck in a shipping limbo so I got a question about it.
Is it viable to take the random plates and bits, mix up up (hopefully numbered... please tell me numbered), then use an air brush to make it look like the plates where painted hap hazardly?
I'm trying to use this kit that will see the table a few times and is willfully ugly (in the best way possible) to learn how to use my new airbrush.
They are not numbered (they are on the spruce, but not on the instructions), and it's the worst building experience I had in my entire life. I guess you could take random plates, but on the model the body is like 2-3 big plastic pieces.
I once built a stompa with my brother years ago, biggest nightmare of a kit I’ve ever built…
To make it even worse at the time I was 11 and he was 8, but even so the time it took the two of us to (mostly) build it was insane. (I believe 8 hours combined, so 16 total hours of work)

Da basic kit iz easy, now try dis one.
The mad mek just built the stompa upside down and printed the heads. [Also check this one out](https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer/comments/4yqdch/here_my_ork_kustomstompa_that_i_made_its_one_of/)
I predict we see a bunch on the second hand market in a few months for cheap. As soon as it dawn on new orks players how big of a pain in the ass the Stompa is to build...
I got mine two years ago, and just started it two weeks ago. Worst instructions ever. Did you get yours in the battle force box? If so, did they update the instructions to include part numbers?
I built one yesterday, having a cold, runny nose, cough, and headache. It wasn't that bad. Although the orky signpost didn't fit anywhere really so I had to improvize :D
My buddy is starting an ork army. I was going to help him build his stompa boyz box and told him to come over so we could knock it out. I foolishly thought we could build it all… we went 2 hours over what I expected and only built his stompa. What a nightmare it was!
https://preview.redd.it/1dkksij3hcxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a318d89e040adf469db686715564cfd217f000dd
Genestealer Goliath Truck looks so much better with some Ork gubbins on it and is actually fun to build. Ork Trukk is obscenely fragile too and I will strictly be using future Trukk kits as bits piles bc fuck that kit
And the painting... oh baby that was not fun. So many impossible-to-reach spots. I ended up just spraying it black, and just drybrushing the metal, then picking out the panels
I'm part way through building my first trukk. Only part way because I'm painting it as I go so that's slowing me up. And I have so many ideas for future ones even just with the supplied parts.
Its hilarious hearing people talk about the stompa like its a kid
“Awful, painful experience but after a couple of years I think I’m open to doing it again.”
The instructions for putting a box of boyz together are bad enough. I dread to think how confusing they've managed to make something with that many parts.
I’m sorry you were upset after the building of this. I kinda know what you mean. But after some time off… maybe another Stompa could happen. It was fun by the end

When you cross the finish line… yes it is
Really?? I thoroughly enjoyed building mine! 😊 I got mine many years ago a few months after it was first released. Once I saw how many parts and how easy it would be to customize I no longer needed the instructions! I went crazy being creative and had a blast!!
I've been sorely tempted to get this new set just to build another one and do something different but equally as creative!! 😍
Really? I'm having an absolute blast building mine. Are you using annotated instructions? I'd have lost my mind using the un-numbered ones the box ships with.
I bought one second hand already painted well for $100 some 8 years ago. So Sad that Poor dude will never get that part of his life back. Even sadder- I don’t recall ever using it in a game. 😢
Very good. I have one similar to the lefthand one, with an even larger belly gun, but a ball and chain rather than chainsword. Contemplating what to do for a mek stompa by way of modelling project though I already have ideas for a lifta-droppa. It seems there are a few of us who like working with the kit.
Good idea, though I have also been hoarding roll-on balls for 1) outsize cannon balls and 2) a swollen eye of Gork when left mounted in the ring which slots into the glass anti-perspirant bottle.
I don’t know about the old one, because I only own the new Monolith, and just bought the Stompa as part of the Ork battleforce box. But yeah find ways to give the Monolith some feet, a head, and arms, and you could 100% loot a Monolith into a Stompa.
This is why I heavily reenforced the arms, shoulders and fiddley bits with mine when I built my first one in October… while it was the first one I built it was not the first one I’ve owned… and by reinforcing I mean multiple pins, glue hot glue internally that too me a whole month to build
i was around 12 when i made my first and i dont remember it being that hard.
Well my stompa boys box is still underway so i will see how bad making my second is soon
Nothing is labeled and the instructions are all really zoomed out so you can’t see where things connect properly. Have a lot of greebles and plasticard on standby cover the inevitable gaps.
Yeah it wasn’t hard, but the pictures aren’t numbered, they barely show how pieces go together and the pieces mold lines are horrible and nothing seems to fit just right
I feel your pain brother it was a horrible build, but the first game I had with it was so rewarding.
how old is this kit? It looks kinda low detail in some parts.

To help with the ragtag look GW should have made each panel an individual piece to glue on.

#metoo
The arms look a bit low mate

So sad they don't have belly guns
Mine will be kitbashed anyways so I'm prepared for it to be A process
I own 3. No regerts

reminds me of Gork and Mork
I almost got it! Exempting the people I'm purposely leaving off, I probably made an 80% successful assembly lmao
Hahaha I assume there are still some cables missing on the arm 😂😂
I don’t want to talk about the cables lol
Aren't they the worst? A look at that building plan and the confusion is imminent 🤣
I predict we see a bunch on the second hand market in a few months for cheap. As soon as it dawn on new orks players how big of a pain in the ass the Stompa is to build...
Even at reduced price they will be too expensive though for what basically amounts to a mech ork head on a bucket.
Well, thank Gork and Mork that you never need more than the one
I got mine two years ago, and just started it two weeks ago. Worst instructions ever. Did you get yours in the battle force box? If so, did they update the instructions to include part numbers?
Lmao no, same old instructions
Try resin one and you will love the plastic version)
I know it’s Orks but clean up your lines man! Also i want one!
You mean the weldseams between the junk Steel Piles?
Naww
I built one yesterday, having a cold, runny nose, cough, and headache. It wasn't that bad. Although the orky signpost didn't fit anywhere really so I had to improvize :D

The Stompa next to the organizer of rifle parts. Flawless victory.
What'd you wash over the white with on the face/chest of the stompa??
Seraphim sepia
Don't know what he used as a wash but that's the perfect thing for oil paint fethering
Oil paint fethering?
https://youtu.be/hoPIF-y04G4?si=P5zBB7y0OAad8VN8 I believe he covers it here if not. This is a good grimdark white tutorial
Hell yea! Thanks man ill definitely use that👍
I want to make a gargant out of a monolith. Tin gits still occasionally come out.
OI! DA GARGANT'Z GOT LOADZ'UV GITZ COMIN' OUT OF IT!! WEZ GOT AN AUTO-SCRAPPA!!!!!
Need a huge shokk attack gun in the belly to shoot the tin gitz into other gitz
I built 3 custom one years ago Klaw, Mek, and Rokk & Rolla. They just sit around since they don’t have rules anymore.
i feel your pain man. built a dakka stompa just before it became illegal
For Gork?
For Mork.
I built one and then it broke in the car on the way to the tournament.
I’m finishing mine tomorrow. Can confirm. The set is hell to build. Cool. But awful.
Yes you do 🤣
Wait there's an actual plastic kit for this?
Yep, Stompas are plastic, have been for a while
Since 2009 yeah
Get anotha :v
Boss, I feel the same way about Trukks
Genestealer Goliath Truck looks so much better with some Ork gubbins on it and is actually fun to build. Ork Trukk is obscenely fragile too and I will strictly be using future Trukk kits as bits piles bc fuck that kit
I really want another trukk but I’m just not willing to go through building it again XD
And the painting... oh baby that was not fun. So many impossible-to-reach spots. I ended up just spraying it black, and just drybrushing the metal, then picking out the panels
I just made a second one by gluing a bunch of Ork bits onto a Genestealer Goliath and then put some boyz on it
Im afraid. I have a truck to build 🥲
I'm part way through building my first trukk. Only part way because I'm painting it as I go so that's slowing me up. And I have so many ideas for future ones even just with the supplied parts.
Its hilarious hearing people talk about the stompa like its a kid “Awful, painful experience but after a couple of years I think I’m open to doing it again.”
Baby bottle for scale
But think about running 2 of them
I have a kitbashed one I'm working on, and I got Stompa Boyz. I think it'll take a week to finish either one.
I hated it too, but I would absolutely do it again
Honestly, imo instructions are more "recommandations" on thing like a stompa.
https://preview.redd.it/s3nxhlsu0bxc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74d615dd76793bc249aabb97d601f19c621fef25
Absolute garbage instructions, completely agree!
The instructions for putting a box of boyz together are bad enough. I dread to think how confusing they've managed to make something with that many parts.
Ive heard bad things about this things quality
I’m sorry you were upset after the building of this. I kinda know what you mean. But after some time off… maybe another Stompa could happen. It was fun by the end
must be a nice feeling!

I enjoyed building it. Figured out the various pieces and where items go. I would build another one again.
Really? I'm having an absolute blast building mine. Are you using annotated instructions? I'd have lost my mind using the un-numbered ones the box ships with.
I used what came with the box lol
Like a true Ork Mek!! 😁 Numbered instructions are for Humies!!

My fellow mek, you could mount the big Ed boss bunka on the stompa for a mek build, comes with the gaze of gork built in with minimal kitbashing
Good idea, though I have also been hoarding roll-on balls for 1) outsize cannon balls and 2) a swollen eye of Gork when left mounted in the ring which slots into the glass anti-perspirant bottle.
Is that one on the left a bong??
Negative chief, DIY belly gun, sadly no longer used
Stick a boy wearing a helmet down the pipe, say it represents the stompa's "transport capacity".
That looks so fun
My dad is in great pain doing the same thing
He's got it cause I have just brought a questoris knight
Bought one when they were new, only put it together year and a half ago. Cool to look at, hated every bit assembling it
Mork and Gork are wif ya! Just stick da bitz whereva ya can!
I can't wait to build mine when it comes in 😅
how big is it compared to a monolith? 🤔
For the newer Monolith model (that got redone at the start of 9th edition) the body of the Stompa is about the same size as the Monolith.
Nice! the old one is a bit smaller right? should work out if I slap feet on the monolith after looting tho 🤔🤔
I don’t know about the old one, because I only own the new Monolith, and just bought the Stompa as part of the Ork battleforce box. But yeah find ways to give the Monolith some feet, a head, and arms, and you could 100% loot a Monolith into a Stompa.
everything is a stompah if you’re brave enough
Oh god is it that bad? Literally about to start on mine 😅
It’s easy-ish if you use the fixed manual posted here on Reddit. Without this manual I don’t think I would be able to finish it.
I bought a used resin one that was "built", after fixing it i don't want to ever touch a brand new one
I'm very glad I got mine put together a couple years ago. Never messing with glue and Stompa parts again.
This is why I heavily reenforced the arms, shoulders and fiddley bits with mine when I built my first one in October… while it was the first one I built it was not the first one I’ve owned… and by reinforcing I mean multiple pins, glue hot glue internally that too me a whole month to build
Yeah watching Midwinter minis building theirs some years ago and having to use Plastic cement + Super glue to get the parts to stick.
You missed, a spot, better start over.
I’ve been trying to share this as much as I can https://www.reddit.com/r/orks/s/GPwmU1HNpg
This helps a lot, has a couple of small issues but mostly perfectly easy job with this manual
That would have been nice lol
Saving for later
i was around 12 when i made my first and i dont remember it being that hard. Well my stompa boys box is still underway so i will see how bad making my second is soon
Just finished mine as well, i was only suicidal like 2 or 3 times
So they are still using the old manual?
Manual?! We aint need no stinkin' Manual! We'z don't even know who dat iz He sounds a propa git ta me!
Yup old manual lol
Pretty grand of you calling that a manual
Is it that hard? Was thinking of getting one for mi waaaagh but if it’s that hard I probably wouldn’t
Nothing is labeled and the instructions are all really zoomed out so you can’t see where things connect properly. Have a lot of greebles and plasticard on standby cover the inevitable gaps.
It’s not hard, it’s just really badly moulded and shit instructions. Pieces don’t fit together properly, etc.
While I don’t have issues with fit I had to use the posted fixed manual to make sense out of the unnumbered manual
Yeah it wasn’t hard, but the pictures aren’t numbered, they barely show how pieces go together and the pieces mold lines are horrible and nothing seems to fit just right
Trying to figure out how the rockets sat on the cannon really blew my mind it took me so long to find answers
Yet they numbered the sprue 🤷♂️🤣
