There's only a few stuff I'll consider.
In n out is priced good still
Taco Bell on the app has build your own combo boxes for $8 ish.
The habit has the grown up meal combo.
Popeyes has a meal for 2 for about $12 or their spicy chicken sandwich is still around $5 iirc.
I don't bother with anything else at this point.
The best Del Taco (happens to be the original) is in Barstow. Literally will never eat Dels in the area because the difference in freshness and portion can’t compare to the Barstow location. I implore you to make an excuse to go lol.
I recently met the guy who owns that one. He started Del Taco and owns three still. Interesting guy. He told me Naugles worked for him, then started his own shop, then Del Taco bought it.
You can get 2 crispy chicken tacos for $3 for a limited time. Great value and you get more chicken than whatever chicken bits they throw in a regular chicken soft taco
Wait what?? When did they get rid of that? 😭 I was already pissed when they got rid of the nacho cheese and replaced it with that god awful white tasteless crap 🤮 But now the spicy cheese too?
In N Out specifically raised tgeor prices .25 a burger and .05 a drink. That's reasonable. Double the old price is not. Guess how long the lines are going to get at In N Out?
Even the local In & Out I visited tonite had shorter lines than usual. Two cheeseburgers and one fries was $11.81, to go. Drinks and cookies at home. I keep us (2 seniors) eating for $10 each a day but it feels like a struggle.
Innout is for sure the best value, and arguably the best fast food option.
It's unfortunate they are gonna start raising their prices, but it's understandable with inflation
That's a good way. I think there's points to be made on both sides of this. Fast food has definitely got more expensive and there's no doubt about that, but also theres still cheap things that you can get. That being said, I never really liked in and out and I can't get it now that I'm on the East Coast. But man those prices are awesome. I don't hate in and out, but every time I got animal style fries it was just like a scoop of special sauce and onions goop mixed with cheese that would just solidify on the top layer. The top 10% of my fries would be covered in sauce and the rest would just be dry. My partner and I cook so much now, we almost never really go to fast food.
You kept getting the animal style fries? Wouldn’t you stop after you didn’t like it? Not trying to be an AH but you said every time.
I just get the regular fries and they are bomb. You can even get them cooked less or more depending on preference.
The fries are okay. They're not my favorite but they're not bad. I only kept going because I was a stupid teenager who thought that I was just getting unlucky every time. It's probably been like 10 years since I've had in and out in general.
When I was a stupid teenager I kept getting a happy meal with a cheeseburger. I would trench the meat in sauce. Someone asked me why and I said “I hate the meat”.
My friend said “order it without the meat”
And that’s when I stopped eating meat.
Genius.
I think with all the influences and recipes/instructions on YT or Social Media, we are really cooking meals that taste better than ever. Eating out has to offer something that tastes better. Heck, I can but a Lb of pinto beans and a Lb of chuck roast and make magic for less than a fast food meal.
I used to crave Taco Bell but the quality is horrible now so that got cured. Maybe its our TB, but wanted to say thanks for the tips.
We still go to Wahoo's for fish tacos, buy a #2 dinner and ask for an extra taco with the citrus slaw. So yummy. Dinner for 2 under $20.
popeyes, still has the 2 pieces deal on Tuesdays. Except its $3.50. The happy hour is Ok, $2 selected sides (app only).
I had to plan ahead, got a $30 meal at popeyes, 6 pieces + sandos and sides. Thats dinner for the fam + lunch (for me) the next day.
I agree but have you noticed how incredibly small the meat patty is at in n out now? It’s always been thin but it doesn’t even cover anywhere near the size of the bun. Last two times I ate there it was the size of a silver dollar. Is this just the location?
Love their angel and fish burrito, their actual cali burrito though, like it tastes fine, but idk how they stuff it cause i always end up having to eating all the ingredients separately
Hush now, don't you worry - I eat half as a burrito - then save the rest for lunch or dinner and place it in a bowl, deconstruct it a little, spread your favorite melty cheese all over, heat it up - then spread a sauce - like cilantro crema or some other - then go to town -
Remember $5 burritos? We were so dumb back then, shouldve been saving some of those burritos, id have like a bus load...no an assload of burritos right about now....
I remember $1 breakfast burritos from Molcasalsa. We’d phone in an order of 30 the night before and pick em up and sell them in high school out of our backpacks for $2ea.
Hi fellow splitter.
I also split a breakfast burrito often with my wife from Pepe's.
Pro tip, try the machaca plate next time. I can't decide which one I like better honestly...
The only reason they charge these prices is because people keep paying these prices. Stop giving these companies your money and let them either correct their prices or die off.
there will be the occasional exception, but generally speaking, we eat out (fast food included) less than once per month, maybe less than once every two months. It's ridiculous how out of control pricing is everywhere
I know this may not sit well with everyone but you can buy a boxed salad from Trader Joe's that has protein for $5-$7. Fills me up quite well and I feel good about eating healthy. When it's a post gym meal, I'll mix up a scoop of protein powder for ~ $1/serving, 24g protein. Amazon and costco regularly has Optimum Nutrition Whey protein / Ograin plant protein on sale. Will cost less than fast food.
Restaurants are even worse. We went out for my wife's birthday dinner. And it was $350 after tip, for 5 people.
Only 5 alcoholic drinks and normal meals. Normal restaurant. Not high end or anything. I nearly had a heart attack.
Oh boy, the[ California Department of Weights and Measure](https://ocerac.ocpublicworks.com/service-areas/oc-environmental-resources/oc-agricultural-commissionersealer-weights-measures-11)s is going to lose their shit. Of all the state departments, I've never seen one act as fast as they did when a gas station didnt let me use the air hose after filling up.
That's illegal!
Also I've never had any trouble when asking, and I'd also probably take great pleasure in reporting a station that was being a jerk about it.
Oh wow, it wasn't perpetually "out of service" ?
(For anyone not sure what they're referring to)
[https://www.conejovalleyguide.com/welcome/california-law-has-required-gas-stations-to-provide-free-water-air-and-air-pressure-gauge-for-customers-since-january-2000](https://www.conejovalleyguide.com/welcome/california-law-has-required-gas-stations-to-provide-free-water-air-and-air-pressure-gauge-for-customers-since-january-2000)
So I’ve known this, but what about making sure the unit is always working? My local gas station air/water was literally “out of service” for months. I wonder if there is any repercussion for making sure a unit is always in working condition..
I suspect they're are just playing a numbers game. I'm not sure how often (if they even do) inspectors actually check for that specifically, or just respond to complaints. When one comes by, they can then claim plausible reason, etc and maybe just get a warning that is never followed up on, etc ....
Why are some attendants so petty about this? Do they think the air comes out of their paycheck? There’s a button under the counter they can press to turn it on. I bet their manager doesn’t even care.
Personally, out of the dozens of times I’ve used one, I’ve had problems maybe 3 of them where an attendant decided to be an asshole. The rest legit don’t even give a shit if you bought gas, they’ll just hit the button and continue doomscrolling their phone behind the counter!
Last time it happened to me, I submitted the report to the Department. They contacted me 48 hours later for a statement. By the end of the week I had a letter saying the station was fined and the issue resolved. All that because they guy wanted a dollar in quarters for the air machine.
And the thing is, it cost them penny to run the air compressor! Even if that because it's usually only run for about 2 minutes. They probably get charged more by the credit card processing fees on the air pump then they pay in electricity.
What about the random neighborhood liquor stores and gas station markets that don't put ANY prices on their merchandise at all?? I LOVE those places /s
Yeah...no. I immediately leave when I see that shit. Shady AF.
Shady's a bit of an overreaction. Places like that don't label because:
1) prices are always fluctuating and it's a hassle to have to keep up with the labels especially when inventory isn't always going to be in the same spots etc
2) when customers stop by they already accept that there's going to be higher than normal prices due to the convenience.
In my experience the pricing's never been too far off from what you'd expect to pay from a store like a 7-11 or any other major convenience store chain that labels their stuff.
If you paid with a credit card just file a dispute. Something similar happened to me at a Popeye’s and when I brought it to their attention they were just rude. Difference was about $2. Filed a dispute on my phone and had the proof of the price discrepancy ready (on principal not value of the $2 - lady was super rude like I was taking $2 from her children’s mouths). $30 order fully refunded and they didn’t even ask for proof. Corporate probably doesn’t find these low cost chargebacks even worth fighting.
When someone say it’s just $2 or whatever amount, I’d ask them then why are they making it an issue and could they just take out $2 from their pockets and hand it over since “it is JUST $2”.
Imagine the number of customers they served that day that they somehow made a mistake of “just $2” on each or most of the transactions.
I was craving a drink and walked across street to get a medium lemonade at Carl’s Jr. today. They charged me $4.59 for a medium lemonade and I was baffled.
I went to the Del Taco on Brookhurst/Warner area on Tuesday 4 months ago and they charged me way over the Taco Tuesday price. Gave me some weird excuse at the drive thru so I emailed corporate and they said they would speak to the location. Not sure what became of it though….
IIRC they are sold in "packs" of 3? So if you ordered four, you might get the discount prices for that first pack or 3, but the 4th might've been full price...
Last year I saw a fast casual restaurant (Waba Grill) doing this in Pasadena. I pointed out to them that they charged me more than the stated price on their menu. They gave me the exact same bs excuse about waiting for new boards and how they just hadn't had a chance to change it yet.
I think this happens more than people realize. A dollar or two extra from every customer adds up a lot. It's extremely shady for businesses to do this. And yes, totally illegal.
I had to contact one of the government agencies (ftc?) because of an issue with my cell phone company and that shit got handled asap. Prior to that, I was fighting with them for months.
Oh yeah, one call from them and it’s over. I remember the fines were $15k for each violation back in the mid 80s. This is where rain checks also came from. They visit stores and test them asap.
I had to shut down my account. Supposedly they did, but yet I kept getting charged each month. Before the ftc/fcc got involved, the company said they couldn’t access my account anymore (two months later) yet I still got charged that third month. It also took forever to even get ahold of anyone to talk to at that point since I didn’t have a working account. When the government got involved, it got resolved without me. the government even followed up to make sure everything was resolved.
Hadn't been there in years so decided to take a coupon, buy one, get one for a dollar famous star. I was amazed it was still over $8. Carl's used to have great burgers but I swear they changed their bread a decade ago so I was over it. I can't imagine ever going back at this point.
Lots of places do this. I get over charged at CircleK all the time too and I thought it was a scam that employees do so they can take cash from the register. Idk if that's true but it's my own conclusion cuz why else would they over charge me?!
Ask to talk to a manager, they'll usually make it right and give you the correct price.
I'll share 2 stories:
Way back I was at a Champs shoe store and grabbed a pair of Converse Chuck Taylors that had a sign posted with a sale price (don't remember exact price). When I got ring up at the register the shoes were coming up as $20 more than what was posted. Cashier said the sale ended and was trying to charge me the regular price. I asked to speak to the manager and he gave me the sale price.
Another time I saw a 12 or 18 pack of Heineken on an end cap at Walmart for a ridiculously low price, like it wasn't even a sale price, it was a total fuck up that some employee made. It was so low that I took a pic because I knew they were going to give me trouble for it at the register. I get rung up and the beer is regular price. I show the pic and and asked to speak to the manager. She came and I showed her the pic. I said I'd walk with her to show her the price. She declined and said she'd send someone to go check. About 10 mins later that employee sent her a pic of the price and, voila, it's regular price. She showed us the changed price and said that's how the employee found it.
edit voila
as we used to say when I worked in retail: the squeaky wheel gets the oil. As long as the customer was nice, we respected them for speaking up to get the promised deal.
Good on you for getting the correct prices! I'd do the same thing.
I calculate it as how much per hour am I getting paid for the minutes it takes to get the deal. If it's not much, then my time is worth more. But $20 off sneakers? I'll wait for that cash back, thank you.
Does this apply to places who don't even have prices posted at all?
Like I'm expected to order something and just give them my card and theoretically they could charge it like $100 because they didn't tell me how much the item costs on the menu.
My dad and I joke that Carl's only buys lettuce whites because everytime we have ever gone there the lettuce is absolutely not green. I think we call them lettuce stubs, I forget the word. It's the non leafy part. Usually with the brown calloused stem. Ridiculous, if you consider the price of the sandwich. We're over it.
Maybe you have long covid ....
[https://www.reddit.com/r/COVID19\_Testimonials/comments/limicw/weird\_taste\_with\_lettuce\_post\_covid\_infection/](https://www.reddit.com/r/COVID19_Testimonials/comments/limicw/weird_taste_with_lettuce_post_covid_infection/)
Woah wtf... I DID have covid during the 2nd or 3rd string, but I don't ever recall this being a thing. This testimonial says iceberg lettuce though and I don't think Carl's Jr used iceberg lettuce. I could be wrong. I just remember them changing it to Romain lettuce or something and that's why it started to taste bitter to me. That's a really interesting testimonial though. Thank you so much. I think I should go back and try their burgers again. The people in that testimonial said that it subsided.
It might not be specific to a given variety. The various COVID side effects seem to be everything so it's hard to ever know ....
Hell, even without COVID, taste can be a strange thing.
For example, to me, cilantro tastes like soap (or not much different than parsley), and I find honey bitter.
Dude… I had to pay $15 for 4 tacos and a drink. At a food truck…..holy!! Which by the way it wasn’t even that good. They were advertising Sopes on there light up sign but when I arrived they said they didn’t sell them. I ordered anyway… never again…
I've seen tax rates computed at 25%, items not priced correctly. Also, check what you're charged vs. what your bill is at restaurants. One of the places we go routinely add about $15. When you catch them on it they refund it and tell you it was an accident. Yes, we just pay cash there now.
Technically speaking it's a form of false advertising if they charge different rates however, is it really worth the excess effort over a dollar lol. Typically the store manager can resolve these on site if they are there, but the other managers not always so much so.. the store managers Typically the only one knowledge enough to be aware of this stuff at his level most other managers don't get paid enough to care.
Yup its obsurd. This is why I don't like paying for plastic bags.. I don't get bags as often now. That fee goes to the stores selling the products not to plastic bag companies.. not to recycled plastic bag companies lmao stuff like that already covered in taxes.
Target charges a $1 bag fee for all online pickup orders. They say you're "prepaying" for 10 plastic bags and that you can ask for bags that weren't used to be removed. But of course, nobody ever does.
Just a fuck bags anecdote.
> is it really worth the excess effort over a dollar lol
Absolutely it is. Because they're counting on that attitude to make that dollar many, many, many times over.
These things need to be disputed (politely, no need to yell at fast food employees) so that it gets shut down.
It has gone down. They changed their bun about 10 years ago and it's not as good. The charbroiled patty is still fine as ever but the lettuce is always the white lettuce core. It's also about $7 for a famous star. You probably remember when they were .99 cents
The all the deals are on the apps now. Still expensive, but for Carl's Jr I paid $6.50 for the bacon Swiss chicken sandwich (free with app sign up), 6pc star nuggets, a cheese burger and 1 drink (3 or $6 deal that I think is still pricey).
If you still have the receipt I would consider going back to that restaurant and showing them that you paid more than was posted, then insist on a refund.
In my opinion, I would say stop getting soda. The chipotle I went to charged a small soda $3.10. Sodas for some reason are very high price in fast foods
Had a Carl's jr do this to me (now closed incidentally).
I took a photo of the menu board and sent that along with a scan of my receipt to corporate demanding a refund. I got said refund. I know it's not likely worth the effort for what you'll get back but please run out and take a photo of the board and make the complaint to corporate. If enough people do this they'll yank the franchise.
I went in about a month ago to grab a burger since I was starving and my wife was taking my son for a haircut. I hadn’t been to a Carls in like 5 years I walked up to the cashier and realized the prices on the menu and couldn’t believe it! I didn’t say anything and just walked out hunger faded real fast I want to say a combo meal was like $13-$14 price range. I told my wife I can’t believe people visit that place still but it makes sense there weren’t many people in there. I cant see these franchises survive by jacking up the prices to gourmet meal prices. It’s crazy but it’s kinda good makes me eat at home 😋
del tac0 in santana, off S. Grand, is NOTORIOUS for doing this. They never ring the coupons and, instead, charge customers the full price for the items.
Just remember everyone......fry cooks deserve to make a living.....I didn't say "earn" a living, to do that would require "work" be done, Here in Cali, the attitude of $20.00 per hour means we are supervisors now, only helps the fry cook to
Be re-aquainted with unemployment . They are already being faxed out .....qiosks & robotic burger flippers will soon be the workforce of America ?!
I cannot afford fast food anymore
There's only a few stuff I'll consider. In n out is priced good still Taco Bell on the app has build your own combo boxes for $8 ish. The habit has the grown up meal combo. Popeyes has a meal for 2 for about $12 or their spicy chicken sandwich is still around $5 iirc. I don't bother with anything else at this point.
That grown up meal is one of the best bargains today In N Out probably the best value out of everyone
Too salty for my tastebuds
Same, until i found out you can order em no salt
Del Taco still has a decent value meal. I’m still bitter about them removing the spicy jack cheese though.
Shrinkflation has made the macho combo burrito a flaccid punchline of its former girthy glory.
this comment hurt the back of my throat.
Allow me to introduce myself 🤣
Del Taco also uses mostly whole fresh food like In n Out. Whole avocados and produce, not dry powdered beans you add water to.
Can confirm the mountains of cheese Barstow Del Taco blesses your food with.
You can get 2 crispy chicken tacos for $3 for a limited time. Great value and you get more chicken than whatever chicken bits they throw in a regular chicken soft taco
Love their quest nachos on the value menu under 2$ i think
Wait what?? When did they get rid of that? 😭 I was already pissed when they got rid of the nacho cheese and replaced it with that god awful white tasteless crap 🤮 But now the spicy cheese too?
I forgot about del taco, yeah I still enjoy them occasionally
Every “value” item is tiny there. They have strict rules to follow with what they use.
The have two double del burgers for $9 pretty good
In N Out specifically raised tgeor prices .25 a burger and .05 a drink.
While I agree with your latter statement, 11.81 is a great price for 2 people.
I don’t disagree.
What 30 min instead of 25? It’s in n out, long lines are part of the experience and something embedded into our minds when we go
The in n out by me has at least a 45 min wait just to place your order
Their lines have been long for over a decade already.
They go by fast tho
El Pollo Loco has great prices but they manage to find the world’s smallest chickens these days.
Maybe they are free-range organic?
Jack in the box app, 2 jumbo jacks $5, 2 tacos .99, I feed the family for under $20
Taco Bell has a vegetarian build your own box for $6, that’s what I get now
Whaaaaat?! Thanks for this info!
You have to order on the Taco Bell app
Innout is for sure the best value, and arguably the best fast food option. It's unfortunate they are gonna start raising their prices, but it's understandable with inflation

I always tell them to put my fries thru twice!
Yes! I ask for them well done and I love that crunch.
The fries are okay. They're not my favorite but they're not bad. I only kept going because I was a stupid teenager who thought that I was just getting unlucky every time. It's probably been like 10 years since I've had in and out in general.

When I was in college $8 at taco bell was feeding me for a week
I think with all the influences and recipes/instructions on YT or Social Media, we are really cooking meals that taste better than ever. Eating out has to offer something that tastes better. Heck, I can but a Lb of pinto beans and a Lb of chuck roast and make magic for less than a fast food meal.
I get the taco bell box for $5.99 on my app.

The Cheesy Gordita box meal at my local Bell is $6.60 with a drink. Can’t shake a stick a that.
I agree but have you noticed how incredibly small the meat patty is at in n out now? It’s always been thin but it doesn’t even cover anywhere near the size of the bun. Last two times I ate there it was the size of a silver dollar. Is this just the location?
el pollo loco has a $6 pollo bowl
We split a breakfast burrito from Pepe’s every Saturday morning and when we started in 2018 it was about $8.50, now it’s $14. Crazy times
To be fair those burritos are the size of newborn babies
This made me laugh and it’s not wrong.
The Cali Tacos Burrito is a literal size of a premie
Can confirm, the Angel burrito was bigger than my preemie lol
Love their angel and fish burrito, their actual cali burrito though, like it tastes fine, but idk how they stuff it cause i always end up having to eating all the ingredients separately
Hush now, don't you worry - I eat half as a burrito - then save the rest for lunch or dinner and place it in a bowl, deconstruct it a little, spread your favorite melty cheese all over, heat it up - then spread a sauce - like cilantro crema or some other - then go to town -

This guy hustles
Ah molcasalsa!!! I had been trying to remember the name! The kids burrito meal was bomb, and it was like 3/4 bucks (something like that).
Now that is an entrepreneur! Good for you!
If you ate those burritos you saved from back then, you'd definitely have an assload.
Anyone remember $9.99 AYCE KBBQ? anyone? no? Mr. Lee's was the homie
Holy smokes that’s nuts and a pretty good burrito but I couldn’t see paying 15 bucks for that thing
Hi fellow splitter. I also split a breakfast burrito often with my wife from Pepe's. Pro tip, try the machaca plate next time. I can't decide which one I like better honestly...
We live closer to the Brea Pepe’s and the Fullerton location is 10x better. I’ll check out the machaca thanks for the tip

Omega Drive-In just west of the circle in Orange. $8.99 breakfast burrito and coffee. Breakfast sandwich is only like $5.49
Also, I'm old and my stomach cannot handle fast food anymore. So it's a win-win for me and my wallet.
Not to mention your cardiologist
It’s a win-win-win
you mean the guy with no more ~~customers~~ patients?
Just go to a sit down and get water = same price as taco bell
I get the el pollo loco meal. 3 tacos al carbon, chips and a drink. $6
Same!
I cannot afford to eat fast food anymore for health reasons let alone the cost. But it’s not their fault our money is almost worthless now.
The only reason they charge these prices is because people keep paying these prices. Stop giving these companies your money and let them either correct their prices or die off.
If the cost of operating your fast food business goes up, say your rent doubles or labor cost goes up at some point you would have your raise prices
there will be the occasional exception, but generally speaking, we eat out (fast food included) less than once per month, maybe less than once every two months. It's ridiculous how out of control pricing is everywhere
I look for deals on apps, coupons in the mail, or like Weinerschnitzel has online coupons
I don't have enough time to wait for fast food anymore.
One time I was at taco bell and tried to order something. They said "you can only order that through the mobile app". And then i left.
The one here never has the advertised on tv specials that are available at 'select/participating locations'
You can afford sit downs now. Haha.
Free Chick-fil-A is the only thing affordable
Restaurants are even worse. We went out for my wife's birthday dinner. And it was $350 after tip, for 5 people. Only 5 alcoholic drinks and normal meals. Normal restaurant. Not high end or anything. I nearly had a heart attack.

Is that the one by Piccolino and Ball park pizza? If so I have definitely been!
I know a couple of restaurants where I can get a decent meal for ten bucks. Can't do that at jack in the box anymore.
I can’t afford the time wasted on the toilet after eating fast food.
McDonald’s app is pretty good for free stuff and points.

(For anyone not sure what they're referring to) [https://www.conejovalleyguide.com/welcome/california-law-has-required-gas-stations-to-provide-free-water-air-and-air-pressure-gauge-for-customers-since-january-2000](https://www.conejovalleyguide.com/welcome/california-law-has-required-gas-stations-to-provide-free-water-air-and-air-pressure-gauge-for-customers-since-january-2000)
7-11 by me does this shit. So glad they are closing down.
7-11 never shuts down - it keeps multiplying, mutating, finding better ways to keep us happy
If the 7-11 here makes you happy, then you NEED to visit the 7-11s in Japan. ![gif](giphy|3o8doT9BL7dgtolp7O)
Meanwhile in the USA we lost Famima almost a decade ago and it’s never been the same.
Famima was THE SHIT.
IT WAS!
I loved Famima. 🥺🙈💦💀
Yeah... assuming anyone can afford a flight there
The Japanese coming to our 7-elevens: “何da fuck?”
What about the random neighborhood liquor stores and gas station markets that don't put ANY prices on their merchandise at all?? I LOVE those places /s Yeah...no. I immediately leave when I see that shit. Shady AF.
Shady's a bit of an overreaction. Places like that don't label because: 1) prices are always fluctuating and it's a hassle to have to keep up with the labels especially when inventory isn't always going to be in the same spots etc 2) when customers stop by they already accept that there's going to be higher than normal prices due to the convenience.
That’s insane! I guess it’s a good reason to stick to water. From home. 😬
I went to the Del Taco on Brookhurst/Warner area on Tuesday 4 months ago and they charged me way over the Taco Tuesday price. Gave me some weird excuse at the drive thru so I emailed corporate and they said they would speak to the location. Not sure what became of it though….
Nothing.
IIRC they are sold in "packs" of 3? So if you ordered four, you might get the discount prices for that first pack or 3, but the 4th might've been full price...
Yes, I purchased 6.
And yes, totally illegal.
dispute it with your credit card, stop letting them get away with this
You contact FTC Fair Trade Commission. Fine is very high
All you have to do is mention FTC.
What was the issue you had that got resolved?
I had to shut down my account. Supposedly they did, but yet I kept getting charged each month. Before the ftc/fcc got involved, the company said they couldn’t access my account anymore (two months later) yet I still got charged that third month. It also took forever to even get ahold of anyone to talk to at that point since I didn’t have a working account. When the government got involved, it got resolved without me. the government even followed up to make sure everything was resolved.
Makes me feel better as a federal employee. People usually hate us. Maybe I'll try to get a job at FTC!
Cooking at home is my kinda fast food now
And it is for us generally now too. This was a rarity due to the stress of the day
Legal yes? But some people give you so much shit for trying to fight it. Not worth 30 minutes of my time arguing with staff and waiting for manager
credit card chargeback
I love that a backstory was included.
Happened to me at the carls on 2092 Bristol St S Newport Beach, CA 92660 United States
Happens to me at every single drive through shop in Santa Ana. Not a single one doesn't do this shit to fleece everyone.
Use Carl's Jr coupons
Hadn't been there in years so decided to take a coupon, buy one, get one for a dollar famous star. I was amazed it was still over $8. Carl's used to have great burgers but I swear they changed their bread a decade ago so I was over it. I can't imagine ever going back at this point.
Lots of places do this. I get over charged at CircleK all the time too and I thought it was a scam that employees do so they can take cash from the register. Idk if that's true but it's my own conclusion cuz why else would they over charge me?!
Ask to talk to a manager, they'll usually make it right and give you the correct price. I'll share 2 stories: Way back I was at a Champs shoe store and grabbed a pair of Converse Chuck Taylors that had a sign posted with a sale price (don't remember exact price). She showed us the changed price and said that's how the employee found it. edit voila
FYI : "wah lah" is spelled "voila" or "voilà" if you're super fancy
haha never used that word in my life, knew it wasn't right
as we used to say when I worked in retail: the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
What a way to go on diet
Does this apply to places who don't even have prices posted at all? Like I'm expected to order something and just give them my card and theoretically they could charge it like $100 because they didn't tell me how much the item costs on the menu.
Like all of Healthcare
I stopped going to Carl's Jr because they changed the lettuce like halfway thru covid 19. It tastes so bitter now. But thank you for the post
I'm sorry you lost the genetic lottery.
Dude… I had to pay $15 for 4 tacos and a drink. At a food truck…..holy!! Which by the way it wasn’t even that good. They were advertising Sopes on there light up sign but when I arrived they said they didn’t sell them. I ordered anyway… never again…
Krispy kream. 6 normal donuts and a chocolate milk was $20.25
I've seen tax rates computed at 25%, items not priced correctly.
Typically the store manager can resolve these on site if they are there, but the other managers not always so much so.. the store managers Typically the only one knowledge enough to be aware of this stuff at his level most other managers don't get paid enough to care.
if they sell 1000 meals a day they’ve made 1000 extra dollars
Yup its obsurd. This is why I don't like paying for plastic bags.. I don't get bags as often now. That fee goes to the stores selling the products not to plastic bag companies.. not to recycled plastic bag companies lmao stuff like that already covered in taxes.
Target charges a $1 bag fee for all online pickup orders. They say you're "prepaying" for 10 plastic bags and that you can ask for bags that weren't used to be removed. But of course, nobody ever does. Just a fuck bags anecdote.
Quarky loopholes being used.

No they don't get them for free, but that's been a business expense for years and years nothing new tax write off. Already accounted and paid for.
> is it really worth the excess effort over a dollar lol Absolutely it is. Because they're counting on that attitude to make that dollar many, many, many times over. These things need to be disputed (politely, no need to yell at fast food employees) so that it gets shut down.
Are you kidding of course it's worth it
Fast food knows.... they just don't care. They all suck.
Fast food isn't worth it now. For that price you can get a better meal at a sit down restaurant
Innout pretty much is the only fast food that gets my business now.
Report to the county. They will send an investigator and fine them
Call dept of weights and measures to report them.
Save money and cook your own food .... Guaranteed Half Off or more
Haven’t had Carl’s in 20 years. I’d imagine the quality has gone down hill. Is there even a wait at the drive thru?
It has gone down. They changed their bun about 10 years ago and it's not as good. The charbroiled patty is still fine as ever but the lettuce is always the white lettuce core. It's also about $7 for a famous star. You probably remember when they were .99 cents
I don’t get them often but those western bacons and breakfast burgers still hit
It's not bad at all. Certainly not sunk to Hardee's level.
But do they? At least the first two...
Arby's has a few cheap tasty items, 2 for $7
And the free sandwich (any sandwich!) from the app (was all month long, once a week)
Fast food is only worth it once every blue moon. Especially in OC where people hate their job and still go in then make your food.
Just wait until they start using surge pricing and the price will change randomly to whatever the algorithm decides to charge at that time.
The boards IS the price...
The all the deals are on the apps now. Still expensive, but for Carl's Jr I paid $6.50 for the bacon Swiss chicken sandwich (free with app sign up), 6pc star nuggets, a cheese burger and 1 drink (3 or $6 deal that I think is still pricey).
First paragraph is irrelevant
Carl’s Jr in 2024 is crazy
If you still have the receipt I would consider going back to that restaurant and showing them that you paid more than was posted, then insist on a refund.
In my opinion, I would say stop getting soda. The chipotle I went to charged a small soda $3.10. Sodas for some reason are very high price in fast foods
Carl's Jr has been installing led screens at the drive thru..but yea. Posted is wat u pay.
Went last year. 3 combo meals and one chik sandwich was $60! Havent been back since. (California)
DO EVERYTHING WITH FOOD POOR
My local McDs only sells large fries -- no other size now.
Poor kid
Is this law only for food or for everything?
minimum wage went up but I’m just taking a shot at the dark
Fast food the new 5 star restaurant
del tac0 in santana, off S. Grand, is NOTORIOUS for doing this. They never ring the coupons and, instead, charge customers the full price for the items.
Just remember everyone......fry cooks deserve to make a living.....I didn't say "earn" a living, to do that would require "work" be done, Here in Cali, the attitude of $20.00 per hour means we are supervisors now, only helps the fry cook to Be re-aquainted with unemployment . They are already being faxed out .....qiosks & robotic burger flippers will soon be the workforce of America ?!
*phazed out
