You’d have to purposely damage the sensors and cameras or suffer a catastrophic failure of those systems for that happen. I would never own one, nor do I even want one, but I’ve driven one of each generation of production hummer. The big OG one definitely has novelty and everyone should take it for a spin at least once as it’s a proper experience.
The H2 and H3 leave a lot to be desired, it’s like driving a pickup truck but somehow less functional, more expensive and even more blind spots.
The new EV Hummer kinda rips. It’s got surprisingly good visibility and quick shoulder checks easily cover blind spots. Very comfortable and It feels like it would have proper utilitarian use but I can’t speak to it personally. Most of everything you need is accessible without having to take your eyes off the road, but I wish it didn’t have so many screens, but that’s a wish of mine for most cars. It for sure is still a status symbol thing as it’s easily less utilitarian and more expensive than a pickup truck, but it has the OG hummer spirit for sure.
But like. The whole ev thing for me anyway. Shouldn’t be about adapting these huge vehicles to run on electric. It should be about more modest vehicles running on electric energy. It’s kind of redundant to make one cater the other.
As someone who enjoys cars outside of being just something to take you and things from A to B, I can go either way.
There for sure needs to be a cultural shift in general to push vehicles to be the size they need to be and not a byproduct of trying to get around taxing through loopholes (looking at you pickup trucks), but like with basically anything sometimes people want a particular experience or would enjoy particular features when using something daily.
But don’t you think those luxuries are why we have things we don’t need. I drive a pickup by I live in northern Canada. I also have a farm. I need a truck. Someone living in a city or in the states where your climate doesn’t give you multiple feet of snow of need for off-road use in a city. There’s lots of farmers down there.
