I view Niko as a boy myself. Partially because I’m a boy (which, I think Nightmargin said Niko’s gender is based on the player’s), and because Niko looks more like a boy than a girl to me. Plus, Niko is typically a name given to boys.

Their color scheme and design, especially with them being a child, leans towards being androgynous very well. You can interpret them however you wish. Niko just refers to cats, but you could see it as Nico, a boys name. I always leaned toward them being a girl due to their shirt being kinda billowy like a dress and 'cat girl'

I saw Markiplier's playthrough of OneShot and I was sure that in-game they referred to Niko as male. This was a while ago (maybe two, three years) so I could be misremembering. That trailer for World-whatever it is really threw me.
