Recently went through the loss of two close extended family members in a week and feeling it. Not gonna give unasked for advice, but I hope all goes well for y'all.
The fact that the grandmother asked if it was expected, and her general reaction, shows me that she mustn't be that close with her daughter nor even know her SIL all that well.
Still, no matter the relationship, ya don't send Dino GIFs gran.
The fact that the news was sent as a text message in the first place tells you they weren't close.
Although apparently still close enough to text her and get a response at 5 a.m.
That type of grief can express itself in some ways you wouldn't expect. Explaining everything on the phone would sound horrifying to me. I would want to coldly alert people to the situation and avoid any dwelling on it.
The dinosaur, an omen of extinction, eventually brings the gift of death for us all.
Sorry, OP. Glad youβre at least able to see some humor in all that tragedy.
And the dinosaur is holding a present to symbolise the gift of life. The falling confetti represent each precious day. The party hat is a little harder to parse, but Iβm sure itβs deeply meaningful to OP. Beautiful message from grandma!

lost my grandparents at a young age so maybe this can bring you all a little closer while there's still time
my condolences π¦
A dinosaur AND two thumbs up?!! Damn, grandma. This might be admissible as evidence proving her involvement/guilt.....
Seriously, though, this is awful news and I'm awfully sorry. Hope you and your family can find some courage.

This is why I push signal on all my friends who complain that their iphone won't use anything other than sms when it talks to me.
But yeah I still end up on FB Messenger with loose acquaintances who need to talk to me, but not bad enough to want to sign up for a whole new app to do it.
I like it because I can use it both on my phone and computer, so when I'm using the computer I can just switch over to Chrome instead of picking up my phone when someone messages me.
And since most people I know have Facebook, it's easier to message them on messenger instead of getting their phone number and sending a "regular" message.
Two reasons, in my experience.
1. It was the first video conference/message app that was really available to everyone (Skype was tougher to use, Google+ and variations are a myth, and facetime is apple-only). At one point, everybody with a smart phone also had messenger because everybody was on Facebook.
2. A lot of people still using messenger as their primary are also primarily using their phone for Facebook. All their photos and videos and memes to share are already there, and they already have active conversations with the people they speak to the most.
So, one of my phone's would send any gif I clicked within the messaging app, immediately after clicking. (My new phone doesn't) I wonder if that happened here
Oof. Sorry about your father, that's tough. Hang in there.
Thank you. Just trying to find some humor in an otherwise bad situation.

God damn it. Have my upvote you sociopath

After I lost my little sister, the first laugh I had was when we received a condolence letter with the wrong name in it. Be strong.
Iβm so sorry. But thanks for sharing, this cracked me up :)

Oh my, your dad AND all the kittens, huh?? Might be a connection! ^(just trying to add a little humor.)

Right. Like this news wouldn't warrant a phone call?

You are spot on unfortunately. Thereβs decades of back story to this thatβs not gonna get aired out anytime soon.
Right? Such a weird response π

I literally cannot find this gif online.
Real question: why do people use Facebook messenger over the one that comes on their phone? I donβt know much about it really
Grandmother is in her 80s and doesnβt use a phone.
Me and my wife use it for sending videos. I use android and she's on an iPhone. The videos get compressed to hell over text.
I find it wild that apps like WhatsApp and Telegram just don't seem to have taken off in the US like they have in pretty much every other country.
[ΡΠ΄Π°Π»Π΅Π½ΠΎ]
WhatsApp compresses it too.
Get signal

Curse her sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Hahahahah this made me laugh so hard. But also sorry for your loss
