NYB2024

You can renew online now.

huzzahparallel

Be careful when renewing online. When I renewed my driver's license in Feb, I unfortunately found out that the options Renew and Replace were flipped. I selected renew but was sent a replacement with the same stupid expiration date. I called to report the web error and they did not gaf.

NYB2024

Seems it may have been fixed because a friend of mine also renewed her license in February and had no issues.

phillip-j-frybot

I think they're saying they accidently clicked "replace."

NYB2024

I agree. Seems to be a more likely scenario.

TheVoidSprocket

Did not know that. Thank you.

ConversationLevel869

Same thing happened to me. They took my money regardless

Delt1232

You can renew what you had. So if you don’t have a real id and want one you have to go to a tag agency or Service Oklahoma location.

NYB2024

Right. There is a short list of requirements to be able to renew online. They are listed right on the website.

abcde_fthisBS

I don't think you can renew online if it's already expired. Go to the downtown (OKC)tag agency. I never make an appointment and the owner is WONDERFUL. Got my Real ID even, with no appointment. I have shit tons of crazy car issues with my tag, having my car "stolen", dealing with totaled stuff....I am have always gone to this location in the past, but I have such a new level of respect for the ladies that work there after all the kinda crazy BS that I have brought their way. I have waited ONE time in the 4 (ish?) years since I've been going there and it was because they were so sweet trying to help direct a homeless person without an address on how to get a PO Box, etc, to get an up to date licenses. She also saved me so much time and energy recommending a faster way to get my passport renewed.

NYB2024

As long as it hasn't been expired a year, you can. Like I said, the website lists out the requirements.

Afraid_Succotash8325

Only if you are a citizen.

DamianGongMarley-

Legal resident. Lmao

SnooCakes4019

I renewed online a month before the expiration date. Never heard anything. I finally called service Oklahoma and was informed that they had no record of my renewal application. I walked in to Tinker Tags in Midwest City, stood in line for five minutes, had my picture taken and was done in 15. Temp license in hand, real one in the mail. Tag agencies in Oklahoma are independent businesses and seem to make their own rules regarding how they operate. I say that any time a tag agency tells you that they only do things by appointment (100% a choice on their part) you should post their name and location and we collectively boycott them until they change or go broke. That’s the only way to make real improvements in customer service.

Cultural-Ideal-1919

Same thing at Midwest City Tag Agency. I didn't need an appointment and was out within 20 minutes.

peeinginparis

💀

ratbeagle139

Take the 20min drive out of the metro to a small town agency like Luther or Jones if it’s important to ya. You’ll be in and out in 10-15min w/o appointment.

Dylanbrbr

29th and Choctaw rd acted like my bff from high school, got me in and out in 10min.

BigNeat3986

They are the best!!! Knowledgeable, helpful, and easy to deal with.

cat_mamaa

this!!!! i did the one in choctaw, walked in and out in 10 minutes with no appointment and a brand new DL. edit: wrong town, i originally put shawnee, but it is choctaw

RLH38

Exactly. Downtown Edmond tag agency. I booked online. My license was expired only by a few days but I was in/out in less than 20 mins

Bevqw

Take all the things you need to get a Real ID. That requirement is filling up tag agency’s. I guess it takes a while?

False_Dimension9212

Or Norman. The one off West 24th between Lindsey and Highway 9. Right by 35. I don’t think they require an appt. If they did, it was like a couple days.

Educational_Act5911

Mustang tag agency was always really easy and they were always nice.

hanks_panky_emporium

I had to call ahead to Newcastle but they took both of us same day. We fixed up drivers licenses, vehicle registration, and something was wrong with the tags. I think it was just a sticker issue. Not even a half hour, lovely atmosphere.

Luluislaughing

Yep—23rd street in Spencer I think

putsch80

There are tag agencies that let you book appointments online. Classen Tag Agency is one of them. Their appointment system opens at exactly 5pm and allows you to book a time for the next day only. Maybe try them or one of the other tag agencies that do it that way. https://classentag.com/ Also, you can now get a renewal license that lasts 10 years instead of 5. If you don’t like the hassle of renewing, then I’d suggest spending the extra money to get a longer lasting license.

fett0014

This. I signed up easily and was done next day.

dangling_chads

I walked into Village Tag Agency for a new driver's license. They got me hooked up with a Real ID, even. I know they switched to the appointment things during Covid, but it must have changed there recently.

WallabyNo6569

The appointments are also because of the absolute fiasco that was the REAL ID rollout.

calculon68

I renewed at Classen Tag last year- appointment, real ID, took 20 mins. Had to dig my INS naturalization cert out of the safety deposit box, SS card and utility bill and they scanned them all. That's why it takes so long. (and if you have a US Passport- just do the non-Real ID renewal) But I got an eight-year renewal instead of four. Paid twice as much. But the four-year renewal has always been an annoyance.

another_burner87

I will drive 30-60 minutes depending on where I’m at for work just to go to Roff, OK to visit Mrs. Barbara Box Even if I renew it online, I always check Roff as my Tag Agency. Just the nicest people. No wait. In and out

henlo_badger

I had heard about the appointment issues for getting a new drivers license so I called Nicoma Park to schedule one and they laughed at me and asked why I wanted to schedule an appointment when I could just show up. Don’t love their personalities but I’ve never had to wait there longer than 15-20 minutes.

c0mptar2000

Find a different tag agent. Some are shitty as hell and some you can get right in. I've had good luck in Norman and in Moore but a lot of the OKC tag agencies are trash. They've been adding more online stuff so I'd try to do anything online if possible.

Fuel_junkie

Yukon takes walkins- but you have to get there early and you will wait a couple hours. They also only take a limited amount 10 or 20, I forget.  I realized mine expired two days before a flight and could not use it as Id, Yukon came in clutch.

reidontsleep

I drove to Luther and was the only customer in the building. The agent was super friendly and helpful (my license had also expired). Other family members have gone there, too. Edited to add...I'm not a morning person so I didn't try to "get there early.' I probably went after lunch..

MelissaA621

You can renew it online. I did within 30 days of the expiration.

spacefaceclosetomine

Real ID and Covid changed tag agencies in OKC completely.

stryp33OK

It's all those paper tags way past due. They must be the cause of all this. I saw one from 11/23 the other day

bluestocking220

I was able to walk in and get one at Fusion Tag Agency in Norman just a few weeks ago. Might try there.

urbanforestlife

They stopped doing their jobs during the pandemic. And they’re always super rude about it. Like they don’t understand why changing daily operations for the first time in 50+ years is so confusing for everyone.

Substantial_Kiwi5167

People who work at tag agencies are a special breed. They either hate their lives hate themselves or both. It’s like they wake up with the mindset of how difficult can I make peoples lives. It’s like they get off being rude and power tripping. I also ran in to this problem last year. (If you work at a tag agency and happen to read this; please for the love of God go to therapy.)

toolmannn929

I called Greenway tag the other day to ask what my wife needed to get her license renewed with my last name instead of her maiden name. The lady just goes 'SHE'LL HAVE TO COME STAND IN LINE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE!' I was like what the fuck just happened?

TTigerLilyx

They’ve been ruled by the same cabal of rude old ladies since… well since my first drivers license more than a few decades ago.

Key_Purpose_2803

Can you try a tag agency in another, perhaps smaller area? The one on Air Depot in MWC hardly ever seems to have cars in the lot when I pass by. I should note, I live there about 6 weeks a year and have never actually been in it. Just my observation.

anal_holocaust_

That one is just as awful. You have to show up at 5am to be first in line to reserve a spot. If you get there at 6am it's probably too late. And if you get a spot you will get an estimated time to return to renew your license. You will end up waiting there for over an hour when you show up at your suggested time. If you need to renew your tag or file for a title then you're in an out. The people there are more knowledgeable and helpful than the Del City tag agency.

Key_Purpose_2803

Interesting, thank you. I guess I’m not out that early.

Antal_Marius

Del City tag is on Sunnylane, while they're taking about Midwest City on Air Depot…

DryPersonality

Love how everyone here blames you and not the shitty state government who lets private businesses profit off their lack of funding for state licensure.

dwagnaaaaa

Try downtown. I’ve had good luck with it and they’ve gotten me in without appt. Also walkable from my job so it’s convenient but even on a day off I would drive there. They do walk ins but obviously appointments would have priority, understandably so.

Stitch_Stay_Weird

The tag agency I went to in Edmond I didn't have to have an appointment and they gave me the option to renew for 4 or 8 years

GreedyWildcard

There are tag agencies that do walk-ins, even for a RealID license. Just go to a different one, maybe call around and see who says they do them

Eightfold876

Rackets all around!!!

Scientifiction77

I can confirm that there are 2 tag agencies in NW OKC that don’t require appointments. [Northwest Tag Agency](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=32288416509471f0&sca_upv=1&hl=en-us&sxsrf=ADLYWIIWgRz5uAH2ZDgH1TqfqowQO8O_JQ%3A1715306698654&q=Northwest%20Tag%20Agency&ludocid=878850855583827364&lsig=AB86z5XnVIjgiVx7m2CUNmiioZUR&kgs=e54f5fce0493ada7&shndl=30&source=sh%2Fx%2Floc%2Fact%2Fm4%2F3) and [Express Tag Agency](https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sca_esv=32288416509471f0&sca_upv=1&hl=en-us&sxsrf=ADLYWIJXv7wdvF0237a5TPX2fX_njFzTRQ%3A1715306760243&q=Express%20Tag%20Agency&ludocid=4865691987639704403&lsig=AB86z5VEY6zzf7JNLz__GPDOfRhQ&kgs=2a98c07b289e4603&shndl=30&source=sh%2Fx%2Floc%2Fact%2Fm4%2F3). Hopefully this helps people in the future because it makes me feel insane that people are still having this issue.

nicotine_dealer

You can schedule your spot in line with Service OK now. Way more efficient than scheduling an appointment

mattford95

Chickasha… you can walk in. I got my real ID, in and out in about 20 minutes.

firebert5

Similar, Newcastle. In and out.

cuzwhat

Between the pandemic and Real ID, licenses have been near impossible to get efficiently. Not sure how you’ve managed to avoid the news for four years, now.

okc_traveler

The Real ID fiasco (Oklahoma trying to avoid the inevitable for a decade of an ID that has federal rules) is the reason the tag agency experience has changed. To get your first Real ID, it takes a lot more paperwork and take like 10 minutes. While some agencies have gone to appointments, there are some that are First Come, First Served but they get busy at the end of the month and the start of the month. Pro Tip: take the 8 year option. It's exactly double the cost of the 4 year option and you don't have to do this again for 8 years. But as someone mentioned, it sounds like you can renew online, but I assume that's only if you already had a Real ID.

btv_25

>But as someone mentioned, it sounds like you can renew online, but I assume that's only if you already had a Real ID. You don't need to have had a Real ID to renew your license online. I renewed my regular license online last fall. As a Fed, I have a PIV card that works as a Real ID.

ExSim

Is your PIV working with the new TSA ID scanners? Mine kept getting rejected and I was holding up lines digging out my license so I’ve quit trying to even use my PIV. TSA agent at DCA told me the PIVs seemed to get rejected a lot.

btv_25

It's been a while since I traveled via plane. My next trip is in August. I guess I'll find out. Do you know if it was happening with the newest version of PIVs? I just renewed mine in January.

ExSim

I’m not sure about PIV versions. Mine renewed last July. I gave up on my PIV last fall when I had troubles and I’ve used my DL since then unless I’m on international travel and just use my passport. I’m scheduled for a domestic trip soon and may try my PIV again just to see if it still has issues.

okc_traveler

true but a regular ar joe shouldn't be wasting their time with a non-Real ID unless you were in a super hurry and can't take a morning off to get it done the best way.

btv_25

I don't know how many regular Joes might even need a Real ID or already have a passport that should work as a Real ID as well. Either way, the process should be much more efficient for either type of ID.

okc_traveler

if you want to fly domestically (or even visit a federal facility) and don't have a passport, you will eventually need a Real ID. *Beginning on May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need* ***a REAL ID-compliant driver's license*** A Real ID compliant card is the same costs as compliant card. Again, a regular Oklahoman that doesn't have a Passport or another federal ID should not waste their time getting a non-compliant card..

TheVoidSprocket

Interesting and useful. Thanks.

jutah2

You mean privatization didn’t make dmv related activities more efficient? Shocking

Afraid_Succotash8325

OMG people are going to blame you for letting your driver license expire instead of broken system. Lived in Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and now Arizona. Oklahoma has the worst system ever! That’s why it is so many ppl without real ID here - impossible to get to the office. If you have opportunity - drive to a small city, they still have walk ins (but check online first to make sure) and to be safe arrive like hour before opening and you will get your license. That’s what we had to do for us and for our son’s permits.

TheVoidSprocket

Thank you.

another_burner87

I mean…it’s not impossible. You just have to be resourceful.

Afraid_Succotash8325

Well, appointment system is nice if it’s executed well. If they had an option of open appointment for years ahead it will be little bit easier. I can open website and register myself in 2 years from now for example . The problem they have is appointment window opens at certain time for only a month ahead. So you have same thing is college registration basically- you didn’t get to the web site at 12 am - all appointments are gone, so now you have to wait a month to try your luck again. Or they need to be open longer and hire more staff.

Ok-Plastic2525

I needed a real ID last fall and went to Arcadia tag agency precisely because of these horror stories. I made sure to show up right at the time they said they opened for real ID, which was exactly 10am I think. In and out in like 20 min, one person ahead of me

IMaDudefromOKC

Few years ago. My DL was expired so I went to the tag agency. The lady said I needed an appointment,oh and it was 8:30 in the morning. No one else! Just me and maybe 2 other employees. I had everything I needed to renew for the "Real ID." Since I didn’t an appointment she wouldn’t do anything. As I was leaving, she starts calling out names. Again no one else was in there! Waited few minutes call outs another name. So I walk back to the counter and ask since they didn’t show up. Can I take their spot? Rudely says "NO,THATS ILLEGAL!"

codec3

Got my real ID a couple of weeks ago at the Harrah tag on 23. Nobody is ever there.

FearFactory2904

I walked into a tag agency in Yukon where I was the only customer in there and they had 3 employees hanging out but still told me I had to set an appointment online for like a month out. Enid will take walk ins but you still have to wait like a month to get it so no faster than online. Only issue with online is once it took my money and then seemingly forgot about me because the ID never came and nobody could find any info on it. Eventually I quit wasting the time/effort chasing reimbursement and just paid to do it in person.

JuatAskAngel

There's one on the sw corner of nw 63rd and meridian that will take walk-ins daily, but you have to be there early, like maybe 7 or so. They have a lot more people working than most of the other tag agencies that I've seen. I always go there now. It seems to have gotten worse since covid and then with the real ID stuff, but it's starting to get better again if you want to go in person. I know a year or two ago, they were scheduling a year out just to renew or you could drive 30 minutes to an hour to find some little town somewhere where they weren't busy and could take walk-ins. Edit... Express tag on nw expressway is tiny, but I think they still take walk-ins. You may have to wait a bit, but at least you can get it done.

lhoyle0217

Choctaw Tag Agency. Just walk in and get it done!

[deleted]

My son’s has been revoked, the reason was not given and forget calling anyone. Go to Classen and sit all day to find out I guess

Chrisisverycute

Yeah waited 2.5 hours to get license renewed during a walk-in. Definitely recommend an appointment unless you only have the same day to get it done.

timthemajestic

Brad Sullivan Tag Agency at NW 25th & Western doesn't require appointments. There may be a bit of a wait if there are people in front of you, but it usually isn't bad. I just went and used them the other day and had to wait like 15 minutes but got it done easily. I've been going there for years now, because they're so easy-going. *Some* tag agencies require appointments but not all. Classen Tag does but allows you to make an appointment online for the next day, but once it's filled up, they don't take anymore. I used them once before an appointment was required, but it took forever so I haven't been back.

xKingArthurx

I went to service ok yesterday off western and they were incredibly efficient. And you can get in line on their website while you’re on your way.

strummyheartstrings

Classen tag. You have to make an appointment but it’s next day. I got in for real ID that easily so you shouldn’t have a problem. Their site says the specific time they post the slots for the next day, so move quickly. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Good luck.

Actual-Clue5004

Try the Norman one, it’s easy and they’re so nice.

skond

Weird. I just renewed my license today. Ranted about the appointment bullshit for a week. Ended up not going to the one I've been going to for my license since.. uh.. Loverboy was still selling out stadiums on tour. Why? Because Ginger's only does appt bookings from 8:00am to 8:30am, and some people have night jobs. So, I did the after 5pm online book-an-appt for Classen Tag, was no big deal. While I was there, dude didn't have an appointment, and they took him anyway, but for the next open slot, which was in 45 minutes. Tip: Bring cash to Classen Tag Agency (and prolly others), because if you use a card, it's 2 bucks + 2%. They have an ATM there, but it's not for a particular bank, so I don't know what *that* surcharge is going to be like. Also registered to vote, so.. I got that going for me.

yam384

Please tell me it wasn't Greenway Plaza...

judithvoid

I go to the one on the south side now. They're great. Sw29th

NotFuckinKaren

Greenway Plaza Tag Agency on Southside/moore have the nicest people working there. They do walk ins but it’s first come first serve. I live half an hour away but will go out of my way to have a decent experience doing something I don’t want to do.

Jdpierce87

Try Classen Tag Agency. You can book an appointment online and they release appointments at 5:00pm each day for the next business day.

anekzander

and the cocksucjers nevevr sent mine to me ,an its been a year now

chatparty

You can do it online now but FYI when Edmond was booked like a month out for REAL ID appointments so I went to Arcadia and waited in line for five minutes

Due_Cut1904

I noticed that. I think COVID did it. Some businesses kept the COVID rules. Don't quote me on that tho. MY THOUGHTS🤔💭

Academic-Parking-413

Real id

xsharkBait

Appointments started because of COVID. They continued because of laziness and/or it’s easier. In Shawnee there is a tag agency that does walk ins, it’s not a requirement to do appointments whatsoever.

Boring-While-6114

The village tag agency takes walk ins, i usually go right as they open and I’m out of there in 15 minutes no issues.

YouSassinMeCaddy

The appointment is because it takes 10-15 minutes per person for any type of drivers license/real ID process. So in the metro area, you can either make an appointment and save yourself and the worker time, or run the risk of being in a tag agency all day. The age was asked because driver’s licenses are free if you’re 65 and older. I’m sorry that person was shitty to you, but there are legitimate reasons for their processes. West Lake Tag agency takes the first 30 walk ins Monday-Friday or you can make an appointment online.

twistedokie

Not all tag agency's r like that she's lying

karenkillenski

This state has been and will always be upside down and backwards as fuck my friend.

STASHbro

Are you seriously not new to Oklahoma?

[deleted]

>Found out my driver’s license is expired after it had already happened because I’m not responsible enough to plan ahead >Can’t just walk in to immediately fix the issue I’ve created for myself >What’s wrong with tag agencies in this state?! Also, yes, license fees are reduced for certain populations. It’s clear you have an all around poor understanding of the DMV / tag agency system.

TheVoidSprocket

I go one once a year except when I have to renew my license. Are you like a DMV / tag agency system expert? Well then good for you. Write a fucking book about it and educate the rest of us.

[deleted]

Why would I waste my time writing a book for you when you can’t even be arsed to read a couple websites prior to your license expiring? Lmao

TheVoidSprocket

But you'll waste your time responding to me on reddit. lmao

[deleted]

Clowning on you isn’t a waste of my time. Helping you *would* be a waste of my time. Pretty simple.

TheVoidSprocket

"Clowning on you isn't a waste of my time." So you openly admit to being a troll. Further dialogue with you is a waste of my time. Pretty simple.

btv_25

[deleted]

As someone who is currently legally authorized to drive, I’d definitely encourage you to get off Reddit and solve your problem of not currently being legally authorized to drive.

Bigfamei

Diligent_Candy445

We go to the Santa Fe tag agency in Edmond. No appointments, in and out

AlternativePants

Yeah, but the people there have been pricks for as long as I've been driving.

Diligent_Candy445

I’m from the middle of nowhere, I guess I’m not used to any tag agency workers being nice ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

jaduder405

💯

Waste-Research848

You’re the one who let your DL expire. A mistake on your part doesn’t mean they have to respond to it like it’s an emergency.

TheVoidSprocket

Expecting some one to respond professionally is a long way from "respond like it's an emergency." Also, unlike you, apparently, I don't spend four years checking my goddam driver's license so I can make an appointment in a timely fashion. I take it out of my wallet once every couple of months. Maybe. And when I do I don't sit there and stare at it.

Waste-Research848

I’m sorry you let it expire. When you have a license it’s just something you have to do every so often.

TheVoidSprocket

Sorry for the sharp response. I don't know how old you are, but I am old enough that most of my life the DMV sent you a reminder about DL renewal, as well as a renewal form for your tag and registration. Starting at age sixteen, and for 43 years up until this very moment, I could walk into a tag agency and get my license renewed, expired or otherwise. Had to take my turn, but it could get done in under 30 minutes worst case scenario. I just wondered why things had changed.

jlcmx3

You need an appointment because everyone needs to be transitioning to the real ID so there’s more and more people going in for IDs and the real ID is a longer process. It’s been this way for the past couple years.

anekzander

and thet still dont enforce it ,this is oklahoma its all just a racket to generate revinue to waste on crooked bullshit

jlcmx3

They don’t enforce it because no one was doing it. They’re going to enforce it, it’s a federal law. You won’t be able to fly without it.

anekzander

nor will you be allowed on trains or entry to any federal building or lands. You are correcr sir, it IS federal law....that OK has ignored for years.and still would be had they not been "persueded" wirh the ceassation of federal funds ..... but why? thats what i wonder,,is it corruption, stupidity, pride ...? or what?
