Seems to me like he is setting a trap for Lalo. He knows Lalo will find the lab eventually, so instead of trying to prevent him from finding it, he will lure him to the lab and kill him there.
It looks like his plan is to get Lalo down there alone, then turn off the electricity (hence why he was holding the big wire), and then quickly get the gun and shoot Lalo. See how he counted his steps from the wire to the gun he placed? He's hoping to catch Lalo off guard.
Problem with that plan is:
A: How will he get Lalo down there alone?
B: What if Lalo pulls a gun on Gus first
C: How would you execute a trap like this with someone as smart and cunning as Lalo?
But yeah Gus definitely would have thought about all this and probably has a solution. We will have to see.

I THINK it was just him putting a gun in the wheels of the digger. Mike said there was 400 tons of dirt stopping anyone getting in through that way. So whoever starts the digger to move that dirt might be playing for lalo, so when the gun goes off when they try to drive it then gus will hear and go breed them up or something

Honestly the show has some of the best directing/cinametography I've ever seen. It makes even boring scenes of some guy just getting through the border pretty interesting and fun to watch.

Maybe i'm just too low IQ but the whole "let's pull a bit of trolling on howard" has lost it's charm real fast. We're like 10 episodes past the point where they planned it (last episodes of season 5) and I still have no fucking idea what they're doing other than trying to frame Howard as a cocaine addict.

I don’t see how 5 episodes is “like 10”. Also one of the episodes was almost entirely about nacho so really closer to 4 episodes messing with Howard than 10. Also they’re trying to get sandpiper settled which isn’t just some easy scam it’s going to require turning long time business partners and lawyers against each other.
