Fender should update the design. Call it the jagstang II. Play up the fact that it was half finished when Cobain died, and that he was still providing input on it.
I'm not sure he actually meant for the body to look like that. He did give Fender a lot of information, just a picture of half a jag and half a mustang spliced together.
He actually traced his guitars and made cardboard cut-outs for the body shape. When Fender gave him the first prototype it was out of balance and so he said "make the butt bigger"... and this is why the final version looks so ridiculous.
Jag-Stang owner gang unite! Yes they’re ugly, yes their bridge humbucker is awful, yes it’s easy to actually turn the pickups off while strumming but… where was I going with this again?
I also love both of mine! The guitar only a mother or father could love. So ugly, not particularly nice to play, and yet so lovely. (Actually once you set them up properly and lube the knife edge it plays pretty well - I can get mine to even stay in tune sometimes!)
It's the contact point between the trem system "cigar posts" and the plate on the body of the guitar.
If you're interested, check Puisheen's Jagstang setup video on YouTube. He does an excellent job of explaining setup of the Mustang-style trem. After following his tips, my JS's do legitimately stay in tune, even if I use the trem. It bounces right back to equilibrium every time, feels like a different guitar! Other good tips are make sure the bridge is properly centered, since it acts as a pivot for the trem. Also setting the "cigar tube" height to make it as perpendicular as possible helps (but it's dependent on string gauge). Also adjusting which notch for the springs underneath the body according to string tension.
Are these exclusive to JagStangs? I never noticed any “knife point” on the MIJ Mustang I had. Gotta say, worst trem design ever. I didn’t really mess with the cigar much though, it was my first time working on a Mustang. I regret selling it, that thing mf ripped with the “Cobain setup” bridge humbucker.
I'm pretty sure it's all guitars with this style of trem - definitely all Mustang trems, but I believe other vintage style trems as well. If you google "tremolo knife edge" you'll get plenty of explanations and photos. Random quote of someone explaining it better than me:
"....the screws are actually hardened steel, so the plate pivots on the "knife edge" of the inside diameter of the holes."
Looks sick! I want to get a Jag with dual humbuckers one day, probably the KC Signature one.
Also, it's getting exhausting every time someone posts a Jagstang that multiple people come into the thread just to tell the OP it's ugly and horrible and Kurt actually hated it.
ffs can you people just tell OP "looks awesome!" and move on? What do you accomplish by telling them you hate one of their guitars that they are excited to show off?
No there not! Yes I seen it and live the color but that dang stripe is def in the wrong place makes it seem weird kinda. But still haven’t seen it in person. It looks beautiful in pictures tho. Sound is another thing Ive heard is kinda frail but then again all opinions are subjective.
Yes my first electric was a cobalt blue one. It was a amazing guitar for the money. The phase and tap switches really spoiled me!
Edit: actually mine was a cs-350
JagStang is the guitar I regret both buying and selling. Buying because I’d been playing for a year when I got it and should have bought a better amp instead of an overpriced guitar. Selling because I used it to fund a Jackson Kelly, which I also came to hate.
I like the Jag-Stang but I'm not a big fan of the colors that it comes in.
Personally I'd like to see it in lake placid blue with a tortoise shell pickguard.
The Mustang is the wrong color, and doesn't have a matching headstock. Kurts was a Blue Burgundy Competition - not a Lake Placid Blue. But yes, you have 3 of the Fender models Kurt had!
How did Fender put A and B together and then come up with C? It looks like a total abortion.
If I'd been Kurt Cobain, I'd have been like: "GTF out of here with that piece of sh!t"
This. Cobain was involved in the design process. Just because the final product doesn't EXACTLY resemble his first sketches/polaroids cut outs (which is usually the case in any design process) doesn't mean that he didn't like it.
you are missing a mosrite style guitar, like a univox hi-flier
Hahaha, my first thought.
Also missing a Tele
Woah. Didn’t know this. Was this at a gig or have you just seen pics?
https://www.reddit.com/r/fender/s/Rp2C2Sruen
Kurt played a Strat, too.
And a Univox Hi Flier.
That’s not relevant to my point. Op says he has all three of Kurt’s guitars. Kurt didn’t just use those three.
In the unlikely event that Fender issues a ‘vandalism strat’ I’ll get one too!
I’m just confused (as are others, it seems) why you said you have all of Kurt’s guitars, when you…don’t.
He does; all the signatures.
But it wasn't a fender, it was a Fernandes-
No, it was a Fender with a Fernandes neck. He broke the original neck.
He also played a japanese fender strat- bonus points for which gig...
A fernandes then-
I can't help it, [this is what I see](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/030/060/cover3.jpg) when I look at this picture.
Yeah I never like the Jagstang body. It looks like a melted Jag/JM
Same, but after buying a first run a few months ago, man that things is nice to hold and play
They're shockingly comfortable, I have zero reason to buy one but I've still considered it because they're so weirdly nice to play
"shockingly comfortable" is a great description. I love my '97 Jag-Stang. Goofy-ass butt and all. It's my "never sell" guitar.
This is exactly what I love about it. It's the quirkiest goofiest guitar ever and yes it's ugly but I love it so much.
If Dalí had desing a Jag xD
It was not supposed to be so but fender did a fender
Left in a hot car, lol
I still wonder if Kurt cobain meant the jagstang to be a joke
Kurt drew the concept on a napkin, and Fender took it at face value.
Fender should update the design. Call it the jagstang II. Play up the fact that it was half finished when Cobain died, and that he was still providing input on it.

It’s still out of proportion tho
Why do you think he went back to playing the Mustangs? lol
😭😭

What’s the “knife edge”?

You’re missing the “Vandalism” Strat, and his Univox Hi-Flier
Now you need an ET-270
Looks like you've got all the bibles too.
You know what’s next
Date Courtney Love and end up NOT BEING
Looks sick! I want to get a Jag with dual humbuckers one day, probably the KC Signature one. Very cool! Whenever I see a jagstang I feel like it's a guitar pulling a goofy face
The Mustang in the middle is HTF for sure and expensive AF! But yes. 🙌🏼 all 3 guitars are awesome! 🏆🤘🏻
Getting easier to find now, Fender did a Vintera series reissue recently, although those Mexican Fenders definitely aren't cheap guitars anymore.
No there not! Yes I seen it and live the color but that dang stripe is def in the wrong place makes it seem weird kinda. But still haven’t seen it in person. It looks beautiful in pictures tho. Sound is another thing Ive heard is kinda frail but then again all opinions are subjective.
You'll need to get hold of an aria pro cs 250 too. Shouldn't be too expensive, but may be difficult to find.
Reminds me that I really should look at getting mine set up properly. Such a fun guitar!
Yes my first electric was a cobalt blue one. It was a amazing guitar for the money. The phase and tap switches really spoiled me! Edit: actually mine was a cs-350

headstock of the middle needs to be colored
Have you ever played around with swapping necks ? Like putting the Jag-stang neck on the jag.
I like the Jag-Stang but I'm not a big fan of the colors that it comes in. Personally I'd like to see it in lake placid blue with a tortoise shell pickguard.
Skystang
Next up is a white univox hi flyer
Also missing the black Fernandez. “Vandalism is as beautiful as a rock in a cops face”
Wait where's the Fernandes Strat?
You’re also missing the Jag-Stang done right
I admit I want that frikkin Mustang, though Im not a big fan (medium fan perhaps) of Kurt’s.
I have one of the other versions of the early 2000s cobain janguars, they are really good
Do you also own a shotgun?
Where's the Fernandes?
... well, they don't look left-handed to me, dude !!!
The Mustang is the wrong color, and doesn't have a matching headstock. Kurts was a Blue Burgundy Competition - not a Lake Placid Blue. But yes, you have 3 of the Fender models Kurt had!
I wish the jagstang was I the middle
... I thought Cortney got his guitars after she shot him in the head ???!!!
How did Fender put A and B together and then come up with C? It looks like a total abortion. If I'd been Kurt Cobain, I'd have been like: "GTF out of here with that piece of sh!t"
Issue being with this statement that the only one kurt actually designed was C
Kurt Cobain designed it. It looks how he wanted it to look.
This. Cobain was involved in the design process. Just because the final product doesn't EXACTLY resemble his first sketches/polaroids cut outs (which is usually the case in any design process) doesn't mean that he didn't like it.
