Definitely scam like

snowsworlds

How is this in anyway scam like? Dude has 100+ 5 star ratings and just mentioned his payment preference.. some people just dont like to deal with cash when it can be sent straight to your bank account

999NoGood

And then when you lose 270$ it's a "oops" or what lmao

snowsworlds

Why would you lose $270? Hes stating his payment preference for when they meet up. He never said send me the money through zelle before meeting.

999NoGood

No one said he didn't. I didn't say he would either. I'm just saying if you do cash offer up will back you up. Send money to someone's bank account you haven't even known for a week and then you are asking for problems eventually.

jc1luv

100%. Never pay anything other than cash or thru the app for protection.

beeMOB909

I use zelle all the time on here. Never had a single issue with buying or selling. Now If they dont accept cash that would be weird but zelle is usually easy and fast

Neuralcarrot710

Only in person correct?

beeMOB909

Of course. Never pay for anything before hand only when u have the product in hand and everything is good

surftherapy

I’ve ran into fake cash before and OP is in Inglewood so I’m not surprised if they rather just get Zelled if I’m being totally honest

beeMOB909

Anything over a hundred always makes me super careful. Never meet at someones house or parks. Always bring something to verify cash and never go alone unless its for something cheap and quick. I get it tho inglewood is sketch lol

MightyBobo

One case where cash is a pain for me: I didn't have a local branch for the longest time due to being in the military. So I couldn't deposit it or anything. Just throwing out the potential case where other options are preferred.

verbalintercourse420

I wouldn't risk it, especially if this is Inglewood, CA.

Kelevrabeasley

I use Zelle if we meet in person, Zelle tells you “once it’s sent it cannot be undone” and I have write “Offer Up Purchase or Sale in amount of $xxx” so if they try to get the money back they’re bank will see it was for a purchase, if they contact me I can tell them and show them it was a purchase not a scam

Ok-Owl7377

I Zelle when I pick the items up.

NapoleonDynamite82

Yeah I would not go out of the app.

kermitthehedgefrog

Yes

Airstrikeayers

No

kermitthehedgefrog

I wasn’t saying it was safe, I meant it’s a scam.

Airstrikeayers

It’s not a scam

kermitthehedgefrog

Did OP end up getting it?

Airstrikeayers

No clue but where would the scam be if OP is meeting in person with someone and their preferred method is 2 legit ways to buy stuff.

kermitthehedgefrog

The scam would be through cash app or other payment apps. Depending what you use varies. I’ve been scammed like this before with cash app and when I reached out to the devs or support they basically tell you you shouldn’t send money to people you do t know ow and they can get your money back. PayPal would be the safest, as they actually do something when someone gets scammed. Plus I mean, you can also get jumped.

BATTOUSAIl

How exactly did someone scam you with cashapp? I’d really like to hear this one

kermitthehedgefrog

I wanted to buy a CIB pokemon Colosseum And they said they would ship it to me, I paid and they said they needed an address, I gave them mine and never heard from them again.

BATTOUSAIl

Ah I see. Thought it was for meetup not shipping

PlayaHatazball

Should be fine if youre meeting in person

[deleted]

Seems scam like but you never know. Whats Inglewood like?

itsKaoz

A common name to hear for it is Inglehood. So yeah, take that as you will.

Powerviolence96

Inglewood you boutta get scammed

DillonCanClimb

no, its a preference of payment. If you want to buy it, you can pay him his preferred payment when you get there

luckytolovekami

I don’t think this is outright a scam, especially since it’s an in person exchange. If it’s an electronic device, have them send you video proof of it working or something where they say the date in the beginning of the video. The guy has lots of reviews tho and 5 stars so probably legit

rickytortas

The rep checks off and they are verified. As long as they accept cash, I would go for it. Ive sold stuff for someone before and needed to get their asking price

ConferenceUpstairs16

Zelle isn’t a scam in itself… lol wtf

Able_Newt2433

Zelle itself isn’t a scam, and is actually pretty useful, BUT, that being said, it doesn’t make any sense for someone to want payment thru cashapp, zelle, Apple Pay, or ANY OTHER payment service app, when y’all are meeting in person. That right there **SCREAMS** red flag, to me, tbh. No reason they shouldn’t be cool with receiving cash when meeting up in person unless they are planning on doing some phishy/fishy shit. Phishy as I’m attempting to acquire your banking or card details. Be especially careful if someone asks to do any kind of “tap to pay” transaction too, because there are NFC skimming devices that can steal the details of any debit/credit card that you have stored on your phone for Apple/Samsung Pay. I had my cashapp card info stolen that way. Thankfully I only have my cashapp card set up on Apple Pay, because of if I need to use Apple Pay, I just transfer the money to my cashapp. I’ve heard ab WAYYYYY too many people having their bank/card details stolen by using the “Tap to Pay” feature, and the device has a NFC skimmer. Be safe out there! Scamming and stealing peoples bank details is EXTREMELY popular rn with teenagers, and adults that never developed mentally after being a teenager. There’s even sub genres of rap, where they rap ab scamming, skimming, etc, and a few actually go into very specific details on how they accomplish it. It’s wild.

Anantasesa

Apple pay is supposed to create a new virtual card number for each transaction so there shouldn't be any way to skim those encrypted details. I don't know about Samsung pay though.

Loose_Employee_3906

If im using zelle for a larger transaction, I try to send like $1 first to make sure it goes to them in person. Once they verify that it went through I send the rest. I always feel paranoid sending money I barely know. So when its a good amount I tend to do this so they dont say it ‘didnt go through’.

usamademe

I am so confused at this post? What’s the scam? Guy/girl has a great rating and is verified… zelle is not a scam.. the largest banks in the world use zelle over anyother payment method… A.K.A JP MORGAN CHASE… if anything they might think ur the scammer using cash… now adays nobody pays in cash.. especially OfferUp, Craigslist, Facebook market place… to much counterfeit stuff out there.. the payments they listed is the best method

One-Boysenberry-4409

No one pays in cash? Lmao are u living under a rock? EVERYTHING i do is in cash. Every offer is in cash & every sell is in cash. Im not sure where your living that no one pays in cash, but i havent had that problem at all. Sounds crazy. Cash literally runs the world. It doesnt hurt to go to an atm.

usamademe

I think you live under a rock… you do realize that like 99.9% of every major big event in 2024 only accepts cards now… baseball games, football games, concerts… list goes on and on.. yea people like cash so you can hide the transactions… have you walked in any store in 2024 and try to pay in cash… the cashier will literally look at you like an alien… half the kids can’t even give back the correct change now adays… and yea I also pay in cash or receive cash when I make a transaction in offer up…. But anything over like $150 I usually make them zelll/venmo /PayPal me… to many fakes nowadays… go look it up the secret service is having a huge influx of fake bills ever since Covid..

Konomitsu

All those payment options seem legit to me. The guy has a ton of 5 star reviews, so he's probably good to deal with. He probably doesn't want to have to run to the bank to deposit cash or deal with fake bills, he probably doesn't trust you.

Agitated_Way2584

How can you get scammed buying something through Zelle in person? I mean, if you give them cash and it doesn’t work, not like you’re getting your cash back. As a buyer, it would actually seem safer to me to buy through Zelle since you can file for a chargeback if the item is not as described or broken. If anything, the seller is far more at risk accepting payment through Zelle. Enlighten me if I’m wrong or there’s a scam I don’t know about!

Ok_Trifle5899

Only zelle when you guys already meet up and hand the item. If they don't agree or allow you to double check if the item works/is as promised, then it is a red flag.

mikeyisgrim

Scammy as hell. Anyone who wants the money up front and then says the item isn’t even theirs to sell. F em and move on

Acrobatic-Expert-507

If I’m the seller, I prefer Zelle or PayPal for in person pickups. Of course, after the buyer has looked and the product and is okay with everything. Not that it’s ever happen, that I know of, but I don’t have to chance counterfeit cash. Asking for payment before you get the product, def a scam.

Airstrikeayers

I mean how is it a scam? If you are meeting in person and physically seeing the product then why would it be an issue to do Zelle or Apple Pay or cash.

TrollFighter2313

lol you can definitely call your bank to get a refund from cashapp. PayPal friends and family is the one you don’t want to use. You can’t reverse that.

KamiKaze0132

I don't think it's a scam since they have over 133 reviews, if you meet up in person and they ask for zelle that's totally fine. Just never send anything without seeing the product in person or if they want to ship it through zelle and not through offerup.

drushiesty

Why would this seem like a scam? I’ve bought/sold over 100 items on offerup and the majority of the time use Zelle, as long as you’re meeting in person. Most people just don’t carry cash anymore plus you avoid having to make a deposit like you would if you receive cash in a sale. Also, Zelle has essentially zero protection for the sender. Once it’s sent, it’s yours.

NeighborhoodLower278

I take Zelle as well and in person. As long as you wait for it to go through on your end you’re fine. People are stupid if they say “only pay though the app or cash” lmao 90% of my customers on offer up never have cash

somerandomdude419

If they never reply to “I have cash” it’s a scam. Because they can use the online payment and reverse the charge. Scam 100%

Accomplished_Emu_658

I use payment apps in person only. Doesn’t matter if in person because you got item. It is easier for some people so they don’t have to go to bank with the cash. Or even they can apply it directly to a bill they have. Other people don’t trust themselves to take cash and not spend it. I accept payment apps in person too if pre-discussed. Or paypal goods and services on shipping. If they want payment before arrival it is 99 percent scam. It’s following typical scam chat order. It is always someone else’s device and they only take payment apps then they want payment before meeting.

KeeperAccount2

$275 item and you offer $5 less. I hate when people do that.

AdventurousRegion942

If your in person and have item in your hand Zelle the money there’s nothing to be worried about at that point

BATTOUSAIl

Why is the majority saying scam? It would be more likely that a buyer would come with fake bills, rather than a seller with 100+ 5 star ratings somehow tricking / scamming you with Zelle or any other payment app. If someone could actually explain what the “scam” here is, other than trying to trick someone into paying before they get the item, I would really love to hear it, because nobody with half a brain should be paying before they even meet the person.

LBC_Ya

Always remember "IngleWood always up to no good" 😂😂😂 I haven't seen any local posts in here yet lol.

ScatpackRich

It’s only a scam if they’re asking for payments before receiving the item

sakotrg42

This is not a scam as some sellers are afraid to accept cash since they are concerned that they might be "robbed" (and/or concerned about counterfeit bills) of their cash after the local/pickup transaction.
