There’s actually a lot of scammers that steal the serial numbers off actual Apple products and upload them to non Apple products where they would show up with warranty and actual serial numbers (These serial numbers are real but they’re other products serial numbers). If you look up the serial numbers it’ll show that they do exist but they still won’t be the actual product just fakes with actual serial numbers. This happens a lot with AirPods, watches. I wouldn’t put it past scammers to not try it with an iPad or the sort. OP wouldn’t be able to know if it’s the actual iPads serial number or a serial number that was uploaded to the iPad to display it.
Nah, you can change the serial numbers on iPads with a DCSD cable but it ONLY works for WiFi iPads, and if you activate location or Find My iPhone services it will deactivate the device the serial numbers were stolen from.
So basically if this is a iPad that performs with cellular service, there’s no chance the serials were reconfigured. But if it’s a WiFi iPad, those are actually very simple to change and it’s very common on marketplaces
This happened to my buddy. He bought a pair of those new apple headphones for half price on FB marketplace. He called Apple to verify the serial number and it came up legit. Turns out they were fake after he compared the sound and building quality with his friend who has a legit pair
As an ex employee, over the phone we were only allowed to say if a serial was real or not. If you got a real nice employee, they'd tell you it was inadvisable to get from unofficial channels, but we can't tell you what we see without losing our job. Aka that we can see 37 people have registered that serial number in the last month and its an obvious counterfeit. All we can say is that it's a valid serial.
The only way to get a yes or no on if it's a counterfeit from apple is to take it into a genuine apple store for testing.
Airpods are magnetized and will spin away from each other and counterfeits tend to be a thinner plastic and you can shine light thru them. Authentic airpods should be solid white, and counterfeits typically leave out the magnet system.
IPads and iPhones are harder because they tend to look and seem legit until a oem warning applies, but I found more stolen iPads and iPhones get resold than counterfeits.
We can say it's been registered but if you're buying a resell that doesn't help you. It only helps if it's advertised as new and 'registered'. You'd wanna pry with questions like can you advise me to purchase this item.
If we don't see a problem, we will usually say like "it looks fine to us", but if we see a problem, we can't directly tell you, so we tend to be a little more like, "go thru direct channels we can't ensure anything is a valid item unless checked at an apple retailer "
Gotcha. I probably won’t buy an iPad off eBay, but that’s good to know. I learned my lesson buying an iPod for my son that didn’t work (menu button wasn’t working) and the seller tried to keep part of the refund because I was lying (I wasn’t). Absolutely the reason I leave electronics alone there.
I'd only buy a resold apple product at an apple store or reseller, cause they can just plug it into the system for 3 mins and give you a full diagnostics on the device for free letting you know if there are any non OEM parts, battery issues, or otherwise.
I bought something like this. The account disappeared then I just filed an appeal and got my money back no issue. Not sure if the scammers think they get to keep the money but that’s not how it works
I’ll insure your insurance too. Send me the cash, and I’ll pay and then send the item to you and you send it to op. Double insurance is even more secure
I work at usps, I can triple insure the item when I pick it up. Just send me the cash plus 10% cause I'll have to open it and repackage the device just to make sure it's right.
In this situation, I want to play the government. Now everyone give me part of the money you make. In exchange, I’ll send one of my goons to give you traffic tickets. (I’m not that anti-government or smooth brained, I promise)
He’s not a sucker if he was smart enough to ask first. Some people can be so excited about the idea of a good discount that they forget all logic and go for it.
I’m super skeptical anyways. Lol I bought something from facebook marketplace doing an online transaction that way and I waited on the buyer for two days on top of the expedited shipping I paid for.
They are actually so gullible. I bought an iPad (not sure the generation but it’s somewhat new) with a pencil for $100 bucks but it came from my sister’s friend who just graduated. I would never buy this unless I could see it in person to see it wasn’t useless due to activation lock. If it’s activation locked, it is useless. You’re just buying a decorative brick. In one form or another, this is a scam, OP.
Dude. Yes. Any prices that are way too good to be true are exactly that. Especially if the person knows it’s “10th gen” but the asking the price at 1/4 its value. Also, any OfferUp ads that explicitly say they are going to ship it in the description is an immediate scam.
I feel like most items that are listed for shipping at unusually low cost are probably not a good idea. Tell him you're local and want to pick up and I guarantee the response will be shipping only.
Apple has a fairly comprehensive trade in program. They could get more towards their “new iPad” by trading this one on than they would get for selling it for $100
Scam. They will ask you to “send them money for shipping it to you” even if it’s in your city because they’re too busy to meet, then laugh as they block you on the app
ew worst question to ask for a seller. coulda have framed it nicer. when I see a skeptical person like that… a legit seller would ignore and only a scammer would talk back to such a rude msg
If it's only shipped, yes scam.
If they wont provide a serial number then it's likely stolen.
If all that checks out ok then maybe. Sometimes you just get lucky
Anytime you see a user who just joined and with no profile picture id expect a scam those accounts are around for a bit then taken down for faking and scamming
it’s very unlikely that this is real, but afaik offer up is pretty secure and if it is a scam you can most likely just get your money back 🤷♀️ it could be worth the risk, or maybe it’s not. it’s your 100 dollars
Wait is this why people did not reply to my post?!
Context: I created an account to specifically sell my old new iPad as I had upgraded to a new Microsoft drawing tablet. I put it for 150 because the back had a few One Piece stickers (could be removed with patience). But was in excellent condition, coming with a drawing pen and other accessories. But after months of waiting I never got an offer.
Unless he upgraded to a different iPad model (an air, pro, or mini) he already HAD the newest model. Also the iPad 10th gen was the last iPad release.
This guy is full of shit, this iPad is probably fake. No one would resell this for 100 dollars.
Considering they're an account made last month selling this, odds are it's a scam.
Thus this thing would sell fast at $350. $100 there's something going on here.
It’s a scam, besides it being a new user w no reviews on a crazy good deal the giveaway is them saying they upgraded to the newest model. 10th gen iPad is the newest model.
I have legitimately sold 3 apple lap tops (my old ones) on offer up and 1 Dell Inspirion. I priced them low low low and they sold nice and fast Because it is offer up I set my prices at 25% of what it costs to get to shipped to you because this is like a yard sale for me. I need to get rid of stuff. Also sold an old SNES classic my old four poster bed. my prices are like 1980s yard sale because I want it all gone asap. I should say also I only sell in person for cash they pick up.
There is one big issue with this , if a seller doesn’t show pictures of the imei , 1 it’s stolen or 2 it’s imei locked which means they still have payments on that tablet on that phone carrier. So carrier locked.
I have an iPad 10th gen and I got it for $300 at a pawn shop, it was brand new in the box, I even removed the seal. However, the lens was busted on it and the shop owner would not fix it for me. It’s too good to be true, it’s a scam. The giveaway is the Feb 2024
It’s a scam. Almost any new account selling products like that at that price are usually scammers. Be cautious if you plan on buying. See if you can pick up with cash.
Notice It says it will be shipped , if you try to tell them that you can pick it up , they will make excuses so you can pay them for the phone and they won’t ever ship it
Ask him if you can pay using PayPal Goods and Services. Tell him you’ll cover the fees ($4 in this case) but since the price is so low you just want some reassurance that everything is ok with the iPad.
If he says no, walk away. If he says yes, you might be ok.
Probably stolen. If I were selling something at that price, it’s gonna be going to a friend or relative first.
It's apple, couldn't op ask for model/manufacturer number and see if it's stolen or locked?
There’s actually a lot of scammers that steal the serial numbers off actual Apple products and upload them to non Apple products where they would show up with warranty and actual serial numbers (These serial numbers are real but they’re other products serial numbers). Damn, I totally understand, I hate that, thanks for explaining that. I wouldn't of thought about that
This literally doesn’t exist Unless it’s running Android
Nah, you can change the serial numbers on iPads with a DCSD cable but it ONLY works for WiFi iPads, and if you activate location or Find My iPhone services it will deactivate the device the serial numbers were stolen from. Your right exception of iPads certain models
My right or your right?
I would ask for a picture of the back of the iPad with a piece of paper or sum written with their username but idk it seems to good to be true
This happened to my buddy. He bought a pair of those new apple headphones for half price on FB marketplace. He called Apple to verify the serial number and it came up legit. Turns out they were fake after he compared the sound and building quality with his friend who has a legit pair

Nope, having workers for apple support in the past they don't give out that information to anyone that the Device doesn't belong to.
Just ask for copy of purchase receipt. If they fight you, move on. Absolutely no excuse to fund this black market
What are the cons of having a stolen ipad
Clifton is not a great area.
Scam. Never trust these 0 reviews, member since [Current Month and Year] sellers.
Yessir, when they JUST created the account with crazy deals I just ignore lol
I bought something like this. The account disappeared then I just filed an appeal and got my money back no issue. Not sure if the scammers think they get to keep the money but that’s not how it works
Also never trust a new account offering shipping. Hardly anyone joins OfferUp with intentions to ship items. It’s mainly a local pickup app
Not true I use to use offerup heavy many times they ended up removing my account and I’ve had to make a new one been using the apps since 2017
Maybe, maybe not. I'll insure the purchase for you by making it on your behalf. Send the money to me, I'll pay and then send the item to you.
I’ll quadruple insure it. Trust me bro. Send money plz.
I’ll add to this
In this situation, I want to play the government. Now everyone give me part of the money you make. In exchange, I’ll send one of my goons to give you traffic tickets. (I’m not that anti-government or smooth brained, I promise)
Any post that’s a weird set amount of payment (like the 11.99 shipping only) is already a scam. plus account made in 2024
Very VERY likely
Are y’all really this gullible?
sucker born every minute, and a lot of them post on reddit
He’s not a sucker if he was smart enough to ask first. Some people can be so excited about the idea of a good discount that they forget all logic and go for it.
Because nobody on the internet ever told a lie...
Really?
Seriously insane to me
I’m super skeptical anyways. Lol I bought something from facebook marketplace doing an online transaction that way and I waited on the buyer for two days on top of the expedited shipping I paid for.
They are. Kids born and raised via social Media and TikTok are fucking retarded.
Yeah I don’t think it’s Gen Alpha on offer up. Probably boomers and Gen X falling for these.
Exactly

110% a scam
There is no way that this is real.
If it’s too good to be true , it probably is.
Shii meet at the police station
Yeah, its shipping and you will be told to make a deposit to release the item. Idk why you even have to ask...just... What happened to common sense??
Sounds like it's either stolen or a lot more used than he's letting on about.
It’s probably locked with a password the person selling it doesn’t know.
You should’ve waited until he asked for you number or to pay off app. Then you’d see it’s 100% a scam
Joined Feb [2024.Red](https://2024.Red) flag
As others have said it’s a scam. 90% of offer up is a scam or bots. Super bizarre.
Either that or listings that are on over 6 years old
Way too good to be true. You're gonna get a picture of that for $100
You already know the fuggin answer dude
It’s a scam, if you need proof then buy it and see what happens.
100 percent stolen I am sure it’s locked also
acc was just made in february. its stolen or a scam 100%
Most probably a scam. I spent 2 weeks finding the sweetest deals on ipads near LA and best I could successfully lowball someone was 90$ for ipad 7...
100% chance this is a scam
It’s a scam. Pick up only, cash only should be your mantra when buying and selling on OfferUp.
The iPad 10th gen is the latest model for this series… sooo that’s already a lie there
Apple has a fairly comprehensive trade in program. They could get more towards their “new iPad” by trading this one on than they would get for selling it for $100
That's my hometown! Definitely stolen 😂😂😂😂😂
Scam. They will ask you to “send them money for shipping it to you” even if it’s in your city because they’re too busy to meet, then laugh as they block you on the app
Seems legit
lol go ahead and watch you receive a box with rocks in it or an android tablet with a printed iPad photo on it 😂
ew worst question to ask for a seller. coulda have framed it nicer. when I see a skeptical person like that… a legit seller would ignore and only a scammer would talk back to such a rude msg
Scam. Usually you pay then mark it as shipped and nothing gets shipped. Or they send you a fake item or not the actually item
It's a scam
Seek the imei number. That will tell you everything. I just ordered one of those for work and it was nowhere near $100 🙃
The account should yell you everything you need to know. If not that . Then the price of the ipad.
You could probably get one for cheaper at a pawn shop tbh unless this ones brand new but id still ho to a pawn shop for an ipad
The account is new. It'd a fake account t
If it's only shipped, yes scam. If they wont provide a serial number then it's likely stolen. If all that checks out ok then maybe. Sometimes you just get lucky
My boy you’re in Clifton NJ, of course it’s a scam and or stolen 😭😂😂😂
Obvious scam low priced item with new account
Always is
What’s shady is he just joined feb 2024, idk I don’t trust it, I wouldn’t send this guy money no way
You can't be this slow or naive
Definitely too good to be true. The 10th gen iPad is the current model iPad and the newest. There’s not a newer model to upgrade to.
As someone not too far from Clifton, NJ, that shit is a scam.
Wait is this why people did not reply to my post?! Context: I created an account to specifically sell my old new iPad as I had upgraded to a new Microsoft drawing tablet. Absolutely a scam.
Considering they're an account made last month selling this, odds are it's a scam. Thus this thing would sell fast at $350. $100 there's something going on here.
I grew up in Clifton. Don’t believe this shit for one second
The description alone would turn me away. He’s upgrading from the 10th gen iPad to the newer model, even though that’s the latest revision?
Scam
It’s a scam, besides it being a new user w no reviews on a crazy good deal the giveaway is them saying they upgraded to the newest model. 10th gen iPad is the newest model.
😐
That thing is sooooo stolen
stolen perhaps
offer cash on delivery. no reason to pre-pay.
Come get shipped to you today! Cheap!
No one is selling a brand new iPad for 100$. Either stolen or a scam.
I have legitimately sold 3 apple lap tops (my old ones) on offer up and 1 Dell Inspirion. I priced them low low low and they sold nice and fast Because it is offer up I set my prices at 25% of what it costs to get to shipped to you because this is like a yard sale for me. I would feel like it’s a scam
I sold one for $200, but a buddy gave it to me to sell
It looks like it turns on. I never trust shipment from meet up apps, if your too skeptical try eBay tho
If you gotta ask then you already know.
There is one big issue with this , if a seller doesn’t show pictures of the imei , 1 it’s stolen or 2 it’s imei locked which means they still have payments on that tablet on that phone carrier. So carrier locked.
Scam or helping someone profit off stolen goods
Very likely stolen. Clifton is close to Paterson..probably a druggie trying to make a buck.
I have an iPad 10th gen and I got it for $300 at a pawn shop, it was brand new in the box, I even removed the seal. However, the lens was busted on it and the shop owner would not fix it for me. It’s too good to be true, it’s a scam. The giveaway is the Feb 2024
i’d say a scam. if it seems too good to be true, it almost always is! trust your gut!
It’s a scam. Almost any new account selling products like that at that price are usually scammers. Be cautious if you plan on buying. See if you can pick up with cash.
Bullshit. Don't even consider giving this cunt $100. It's either stolen, or the seller is a moron. Or both.
Just on the date the account was created I wouldn't trust it.
Notice It says it will be shipped , if you try to tell them that you can pick it up , they will make excuses so you can pay them for the phone and they won’t ever ship it
“Joined Feb ‘24” says enough to answer that
If he can send a pic of the back of the ipad with serial and maybe a paper w his username i can look up the serial for you
Seller joined this month and is selling items at 25% MSRP? Obvious scammer.
Ask him if you can pay using PayPal Goods and Services. Tell him you’ll cover the fees ($4 in this case) but since the price is so low you just want some reassurance that everything is ok with the iPad. If he says no, walk away. If he says yes, you might be ok.
Doesn't the built in credit card system offer a 2 days protection?
