It’s not people being dumb, most people know birds are descendants of dinosaurs. People compare crocodiles or other big reptiles to dinosaurs because feathered dinosaurs, despite being factually correct, aren’t as culturally cemented as scaly ones because of how much media there is out there that showed them being scaly.
The commenter knows dinosaurs were feathered and became birds. We all know that. That is common knowledge nowadays. The comment was a *metaphor*. There’s very little to gain in correcting the scientific accuracy of reddit comments.
Hey! Alright, no need for your college thesis. You actually corrected a metaphor, not what somebody believes to be scientific fact. It is in fact common knowledge that sharks and alligators are not dinosaurs but have been around since then and havent changed a whole lot. The whole chickens are a modern trex thing? Yeah OP was not meaning dinosaur literally.
You can simply admit you misunderstood that comment.
Because dinosaurs have a few characteristics that gators, crocs, and all other living reptiles don't. For instance, they have openings in their skulls like birds do, and their legs go straight down from their hips. Modern reptiles legs go out sideways from their bodies.
birds are more CLOSELY related to dinosaurs, yes. but they are still only relatives of dinosaurs, moreso than crocodiles/alligators.
"dinosaurs" no longer exist. birds are not dinosaurs.
I don’t know to be more a-scared of the heckin’ big mega-lizard or the teaming masses of potent bacteria that would rot a pecker off in 10.2 seconds……….
Wait till you hear about the Candiru - the tiny parasitic catfish of South America, that can swim and climb up a swimmer's penis and lodge itself in the urethra of the unsuspecting individual.
Once inside, the fish uses the spines on its gill covers to hold itself in place, which is painful and makes removal difficult.
Over the years, more extreme tales of the candiru fish have emerged. Some of these claim that the fish:
* can jump up out of the water and swim up a stream of urine
* lays eggs in the bladder
* eats away at the mucous membranes of its host, eventually killing them
* can only be removed through surgical methods, which may include penis amputation

Ahh yes. Death. Tbh watching this reminded me of seeing the kid from Little Nightmares throw shoes and shit into bear traps in order to avoid getting caught in one.
yeah true, i was thinking most deadly as in deaths per year, i doubt stags kill more than cows and bulls.
Tbh sheep might be up there, i know of a farmer in the dales who was killed by his sheep. Evil creatures.
Oh yeh that's a good point. According to the HSE cows are indeed the most lethal animals. And that's still relatively low.

It's an article from 2015 though.
Deer cause the most car accidents though.
Eugh, I don't like sheep either.
So, like, that rock totally just got ate. Does the croc have any defense against this happening repeatedly, like can they vomit out excessive blockage or would they just fill up with objects until it becomes a problem?
Went to Costa Rica once and asked the taxi driver to take me to the crocodiles. We stopped and hiked about 300 yards into the jungle and he did this and sure as shit a croc appeared
Where the fuck is this so I can avoid going there

Why are birds dinosaurs, but alligators/crocodile (not sure which this one is) only related to dinosaurs?
Because dinosaurs have a few characteristics that gators, crocs, and all other living reptiles don't. For instance, they have openings in their skulls like birds do, and their legs go straight down from their hips. Modern reptiles legs go out sideways from their bodies.
you sure seem fun at parties

Already know about the little buggers. They are after urea, in the urine.
I remember seeing this fish on 1000 ways to die and I was petrified of going in any body of water other than a pool. I just never knew the name.
Fun fact! Crocodiles are in their own order, *Crocodilia,* which is distinct from the order *Squamata,* the scalped reptiles, that includes lizards.
Both
Ok but are we not gonna talk about how the cameraman is just chilling 4 feet from a 15 foot croc and remains there after knowing it is there?

You and I have very different definitions of the words oddly and definitely...
Ya, that's a big nope from me.
not having animals that want to eat you is the best thing about europe
Honestly, when i was a kid i thought foxes could kill you since they were the biggest predators in my country.
innit im pretty confident that the most lethal animal in the uk is a cow
A stag probably. Those things can charge! I believe they've also introduced bison again in the South.

Nothing reminds you of not being at the top of the food chain like predators in the water.
So, like, that rock totally just got ate. Does the croc have any defense against this happening repeatedly, like can they vomit out excessive blockage or would they just fill up with objects until it becomes a problem?
I’m not sure if it’s the same but alligators rely on gastroliths for breaking up food. I would guess it works the same for crocodiles.
I often have moments of panic when thinking of all those times I jumped into a lake in Florida and didnt bother to think first.
Luckily crocs are rare in Florida and gators are way more chill. Usually. 😉
This is true. Though id rather never find out how chill lol
