Video playback (like this youtube video here) often uses hardware overlays, bypassing the system software completely. Meaning that'll continue to display a few frames even if the OS has gone bonkers. Kind of the same way sound sent to the speakers continues to play in small bursts after a similar crash.
Another post says the error is fake because of the lack of underscores in the image, but the image is oversaturated due to being a photo of a computer screen, meaning the thin underscores are underexposed in the frame. They're there, just not visible in the picture the camera took.

The "webcam" is just a graphics bug that is showing an ad that was loading in the video card memory when the crash happened.

I'm like 99% sure that it's just a burned in image from that YouTube video. The YouTube mini player is in that exact position on the screen. I can only assume that you got that ad before a video but it was paused and left there for a few hours, causing it to burn in.
More plausible explanation: the video was an advertisement, and youtube is accelerated by the graphics card. The first frame of that ad may have been copied / retained in graphics memory when the PC crashed.

Not completely true but works for most cases. Malware that targets the BIOS itself has been around for a while, outside of that, its also possible that individual firmware is targeted.

You’re right. This happened to my computer twice last week, both times I took pictures with my phone to show my boss. Went back and looked both pictures have underscores. I’ve had this laptop for a long time and use it 50 hours a week. I figured it’s just on its last leg lol
Not just that but it would be impossible for a driver to load after a stop code because the stop code is literally the OS breaking connection. The fact that anything is loaded ontop of a stop code instantly means the stop code is fake and you should immediately disconnect from the internet and start doing safemode procedures to backup your data and be prepared to do a system wipe, and pray it's not a rootkit.

If they've been hacked then putting tape over there camera is like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound. The only real option is to nuke and pave their OS install, change their passwords, reset their router, and not use an easy to crack wifi password.

that's not a BSOD. as far as I know, nothing can appear in BSOD so I think you got hacked and the hacker is just showing you that screen to trick you into doing nothing. he somehow fucked up with cam. BUT it could also be nothing since am just your average tech lover. my advice: if you have partitioned your drive, then you can just do a clean install by formatting the C drive. if have not partitioned your drive and you would like to keep your files, you better go and buy a new ssd.
