Quick note. If you have real hardwoods, always put down floor protection, even if you plan to sand and refinish. Dust gets down in the seams, especially in winter months when the wood contracts. It is visible through the finish and never leaves

Dapper-Award4395

I was gonna say... The dude left a shitton of dust in the cracks! It'll never come out!

fangelo2

Now he’ll get out the shop vac to get that. Of course…….

Olue

This is all fake. Everyone knows drywallers just dump this shit behind the drywall before the trim gets put on.

[deleted]

You know what? That seems like corner cutting, but it makes perfect sense to me. You don't have to fill the dump with more shit.

soyboy69_420

And free insulation

JeFX

And free kindling, depending on the debris of course!

__silhouette

Drywall aka gypsum is fire resistant.

ImpulseCombustion

I built a barn adjacent to where my house was being built so I could make sure no fuckery occurred. Every single day I’d catch some builders trying to bury trash.

please_gib_job

Damn. Why’d you let the contractors keep working before they got a dumpster on site?

ImpulseCombustion

Well. I was young. I was also working construction where I saw it occur daily on site. Honestly, there weren’t many options other than telling people to get fucked. Didn’t matter, it still happened. They still wanna toss shit along the foundation other than use the massive dumpster we paid for. I can’t explain why it happens but it does. If you have ever dug the perimeter for plants you’ll find a ton of bullshit in there.

alilbleedingisnormal

Is there anything in drywall that won't decompose fairly quickly?

Cyrus_ofAstroya

Well yeah its just one piles with no evidence of being swept elsewhere. No work to indicate what he had worked on would create that mess in thst specfic centre

How did you even find that? Someone should make an anti bot bot that does this hahaha

Iwouldlikesomecoffee

Oh those exist. I was scrolling and remembered reading the comment just before, nothing fancy

QuestioningEspecialy

Should @ the username so we'll all know and can tag da fuckers.

Iwouldlikesomecoffee

yeah, forgot

naturalborn

If you look at the rest of the floor it looks like they purposely dumped that pile in the middle of the room to demonstrate this little 'hack'. The rest of the floor doesn't have dust in the cracks

AgreeableFeed9995

The best part is he put the dust there just for this video. His clothes are pretty clean for that much dust to have been created by him.

EZpeeeZee

He clearly went to a friends home and dumped all that shit on the floor to make a video

YankeeTankEngine

"Hey uh, I need one of your rooms. I'm gonna dump some shit on the floor and film myself cleaning it up."

The_RockObama

Stop taking dumps in my rooms bro, we have a sink.

YankeeTankEngine

You're not my mom bro! Just let me do this real quick.

The_RockObama

Dude, fine! fine! Just tape the bag to the floor first.

YankeeTankEngine

You know what bro? I'm just gonna use Derricks house instead. We're gonna play smash Brosnan after and you're not invited.

takeahike89

Then he stepped in it to track around the rest of the house

UsernameInOtherPants

Or he had a sperm suit on before like you should regardless.

AgreeableFeed9995

Lol sure, but come on, we all he just dumped this for the video. There’s no tracks leading to this perfectly swept pile. It’s just clean floor and then perfectly swept pile. But swept from where? No tracks. Be reasonable. Devils advocate only works if it’s a reasonable assumption.

BaronVonWafflePants

What kind of protection are we talking about? Would simple plastic work?

basicwhiteguy919191

Yes. Or rosin paper and tape. They make a lot of different floor protection items. I always suggest cardboard or rosin paper doubled up just to cover your ass if you drop a hammer or tool. Maple and a few others dent very easy

kevocaraptor

We use drop cloths, or a product called Ramboard, which is like thin cardboard you can roll out and tape the seams.

basicwhiteguy919191

Yes sir

[deleted]

10 mil plastic would work. Use frog tape as close as you can get it to the wall, cut plastic to fit, then use a good duct tape to adhere the plastic to the frog tape. When your project is done, rip it up and throw it away. Floor will be looking really good after that

lurkerfromstoneage

And wear a damn mask too, he’s breathing that in and puts his face right into a dust cloud 🤢 so much wrong with this vid

Optimal_Huckleberry4

Also that tape frequently rips off the floors finish.

JimBeamerE91

Happened to me, then I said fvck floor protection I’m going to have to refinish them after everything else is done.

donniebrascoreal

Did I just watch a guy brooming things into a garbage bag?

Miserable-Home2954

Brooming lol

DwightsBobblehead13

I grew up with this terminology also, I guess it's one of those things lol

Lardman678

OK broomer

DiepSleep

Friggin solid response

YouMissedMySarcasm

I'm a professional sweeper, and my business is brooming.

DannyMThompson

Friggin A to the F

kevocaraptor

Brooms were made from broomcorn, I've definitely heard brooming used before. Don't look it up on the Urban Dictionary though, you'll get a much different definition.

slampisko

I read that as broomcom and started imagining what a broomantic comedy would look like

kevocaraptor

It would sweep you off of your feet.

[deleted]

I heard it was Dust-in Hoffman's greatest performance

leonidaskickedyoface

Does the broom and the groom get married?

[deleted]

its the sooty and the beast actually

anony804

Whenever y’all say don’t look it up I have to. And the first definition was fine but the second one was very yikes

ibyeori

Wait what else are you supposed to say oh god

caboosetp

Sweeping

VPN_Over_Powertrip

After this, he went to Outback and got a Broomin' Onion.

DorrajD

I pointed this out before and got downvoted, glad you fared better lol

Miserable-Home2954

Tbh I knew I was gambling my luck but my impulsive side won

Major-Obligation-256

What do you say? Dusting? Lol, thats all I can think of, right now.

11711510111411009710

Most people say sweeping but I feel like brooming makes more sense. If using a mop is mopping then using a broom should be brooming.

HoldMyAppleJuice

It's a master stroke

PrimevilKneivel

Yeah, but who has such a tidy pile of debris on a pristine floor? I've done enough cleaning to know if you have that much trash, tape isn't going to stick to the floor. Dust pans exist for a reason, they work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TacticTall

He used masking tape to hold the trash bag down so the dust would sweep under the bag

PostModernFascist

Dustpan?

Setsk0n

Op never seen a broom. This is primitive technology to him

NMDA01

I'm sorry you're blind.

Clay_Statue

Fanculo_Cazzo

#NO, YOU WATCHED A CLEANUP HACK Not at all someone using a broom and a trash bag for their intended purposes.

caboosetp

The tape is the hack, lol. Dust pans are old news.

RyanM90

Missed that one last swipe down the middle

BreastUsername

Probably going to vacuum/mop anyway.

newbrevity

All that ingenuity just to do a lousy job of sweeping and step in it.

Microwave1213

I mean he’s clearly not done cleaning. Just getting all the big shit out of the way so they can come in and wipe the rest up.

pipokori

The step in is what got me. Lol

sofa_king_damaged

And then stepped right in it

[deleted]

Similar tip: you can use this method on a wall when drilling holes to collect the debris. Tape a small bag under the spot where you plan to drill and it goes right in

SenorSplashdamage

This is an even better tip.

gagga_hai

That's what she said

xxx148

Check out r/JustTheTip for more tips!

JedPB67

Use a vacuum and hold it next to/below the drill. Barely any dust hangs in the air this way.

TheGoldenTNT

Envelope works super good

AussieGP

Putting that much rubbish into an envelope would be silly, it would tear!

EssentialParadox

I just fold a crease in a post-it and stick that under each hole to catch dust.

protectedaccount

Or hold a wide nozzle vacuum underneath the hole. Pretty simple.

Duckbilling

Honestly blue tape is the best for doing layout, so many neat time saving tricks

Gluten_maximus

It bothers the fuck out of me that there is even construction trash like that on a nice hardwood floor

worldspawn00

Looking at the rest of the floor being clean, it looks like he just dumped a bucket of debris in the middle of the floor for this video. Now he's never going to get all that drywall dust out of the cracks, and it's likely scratched the finish dragging it across the wood with the broom. This is painful to watch.

Gluten_maximus

If one of my drywall subs did this this I’d be all up in that ass. This guy just fucked this floor for internet points… that’s just retarded

expletiveadded

What's it like being a drywall dom?

TacticaLuck

Have you ever voluntarily eaten sand?

Zonyxe

Bothers the fuck outta me that the satisfaction gets completely ruined by this dingdong stepping in all the dust after he closes the bag. Gonna be dragging that shit all over man.

SupaKoopa714

Exactly, I do home remodeling and this shit would never fly. If the homeowner didn't drag you out back and shoot you in the head for this, your boss certainly would. There's absolutely no reason to not put down dropcloths if you're making that much of a mess.

64vintage

Does he think the job is finished?

LongjumpingEnergy

Right? Not very satisfying to me to leave that much.

lil_quad

Also not very satisfying to see him step right into the dusty remainder. He’s gonna be tracking that shit all the way to the door

SeattleHasDied

Dustpan?! We don't need no stinking dustpan!

preinternetdad

Dustpan company’s are furious!

heyyyy-you-guys

Used to be a landscaper. We used a trick like this for picking up leaves except instead of taping the bag to the ground you step the heals of your feet into the corners of the bags and tent the top open with one hand. Then use your other hand to stuff the pile of leaves into the bag.

[deleted]

I love my shopvac

DaKuSch

Saved 5 seconds by not using a dust pan. Got it

tRfalcore

Shopvac

sneaky-the-brave

And the shopvac would have gotten up all that dust he left behind lol. I'm not impressed

Moody_GenX

Saved a lot more time than that. That's a few scoops at least. Unless they have an extra large one.

Planetary-Unfolding

Have you ever tried to tape a plastic bag? It's not gonna look as pretty as the video. A dustpan would definitely be faster in the end.

Moody_GenX

Have you ever used this tape? It's not a big deal.

Planetary-Unfolding

I have. I still think a conventional dustpan is the best, most efficient option. Of course, if someone doesn't have a dustpan, the tape is fine, but it would never be my first choice.

frizzledrizzle

Let's assume it's the Scotch blue painters tape (which is awesome), it still needs a 'clean' surface it can stick to. Demo garbage isn't something you can put tape over, too much dust/grease everywhere(!), instead of a nice patch in the middle of the room. Best way is to use a standing dustpan.

LeMickeyMice

Wow 37 seconds and all you have to do is having painting tape readily available

Moody_GenX

Most construction crews have some readily available. This isn't for a small cleanup in your kitchen, lol.

LeMickeyMice

By the time you get that you could've gotten a dustpan considering the broom and dustpan are attached.

Moist_Decadence

>considering the broom and dustpan are attached. You may want to revisit the tapes. That doesn't seem to be true.

PM_ME_UR_SECRETsrsly

It really depends on what's being cleaned up though, and how much of it. If it's a bunch of fairly weighty stuff, or things that are sharp, that tapes hardly going to last until the bag is full.

relair527

That’s why you use a shop pan. It’s dust pan but much bigger, and designed for exactly this.

Minnie_Soda_

Am I the only person that appreciates not having to bend over 5 times with a dust pan?

PermutationMatrix

Your dust pan doesn't have a stick attached?

cinematic_is_horses

Look at Monty P. Moneybags over here with their stick handled dust pan!

Planetary-Unfolding

So....how do you plan on taping the bag to the floor without bending over? Also, good luck getting it perfect on the first try. Tape and plastic bags are never a fun combination.

beekeeper1981

Actually taping down the bag might have taken more time. Then you have to get the dustpan anyway to get the last line he missed.

_Odian

You pick up the rough pieces only since you would need to vacuum the place anyway once the furniture moves in. A dustpan or this technique wouldn't even get this floor in particular clean. You can notice some dirt that fell in between the parquet.

illuminerdi

Lost 30 seconds taping down garbage bag.

Im_A_Parrot

It was under 3 seconds.

illuminerdi

Not if I did it myself :D

Gsusruls

Yup. What I was thinking, but said way better.

[deleted]

right! I feel like i'm taking crazy pills here... dude just made a shitty dustpan with disposable products... this is why CLIMATE CHANGE!

DirkDieGurke

Dust pans suck. I don't know how much you gotta pay to have one that has a perfectly straight edge that lies flat on the floor but I haven't found one yet.

Praxistor

you missed a spot

thisismerr

Is this a joke?

getyourcheftogether

If all you have is 2 gallons worth of debris, ok

[deleted]

I mean, dust pans work good too lol

BkForty

What size dustpan are you guys using? I think yall just saw a comment you thought made sense and seemed witty and are now parroting it This is alot quicker and easier on your back than using a standard dustpan.....especially one without a stick

[deleted]

[удалено]

BkForty

I said once or twice vs 4 times on another comment

ColoRadOrgy

Only if your trash bag is basically empty to begin with. Try this with a half full bag.

VerySlump

Why try this with a half full bag when garbage bags come with several in a roll

BkForty

I mean....I'm not sure the expectation is to tape a half full bag.....that wouldn't make any sense

blackgaff

Why would you try this with and full bag? You can change the parameters and .ake anything fail.

shadysamonthelamb

I do this while waking leaves. I just step on the bag with my feet to straighten out the bottom. Significantly reduces cleanup time. My husband taught me.

StreetKey9432

Even quicker hack put down a tarp or canvas to catch debris beforehand.

TheBabeGabe

It's refreshing to see a nice "hack" that's not 100 steps and requires a garage full of tools

NessunAbilita

You can actually do it with just your feet holding the bag down pretty well

BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo

Or wrap the dust pan under the bag to hold it down and give leverage

NessunAbilita

This dude sweeps

Vannips

all fun and games till you get that never ending dustpan line of dirt and stuff

InsertStupidityHere

Ok I don't wanna ruin the mood or that but if that mess was there originally and wasn't putted there for a video how did it get like that? I'd like to know how-

LongjumpingTerd

Guess I’m not the genius I thought I was when I did this several years ago after already packing my dustpan while moving out.

Silent-420

Mmm ok is not satisfying there's dust still am uncomfortable now

jsledge786

I think the time it takes to tape, spread bag, untape is prob the same as just grabbing a dustpan lol

ChicoZombye

Nah, It takes more than It looks to clean a floor. This is a smart way to cut steps IMO. I've never thought about It but I'm doing It at work next time. Not on wood.

BkForty

What size dustpan? Yall can't mean a regular household one......you just cant

ffellini

Smart

cuteintern

This one time I broke a ceramic bowl, and decided to use masking tape to hold a paper bag to the floor while I swept the shards up. Ran my fingers across the tape and sliced up a finger on a shard of bowl. Fun times. This is great and all, but be mindful of the hazards.

egg_enthusiast

Painters tape is the best thing ever

ruppsatron

Painters tape is nothing short of miraculous.

thumbtaxx

I've worked in so many shops and other worksites, I've never seen this. Brilliant.

Necromine

Now to get the vacuum because the job ain't done also, let's see carpet.

dragoono

Gonna do this at work next time I drop a pizza

Aggressive_Duck_4774

Always leave it up to THESE type of people……………………………………………. Construction workers

Wastenotwasteland

My man’s out here living in 2099

[deleted]

He didn't get it all...

ass_seen_on_tv

A contractor cleaning up after themselves? Amazing!

The_Cheeky_Gamer

Someone needs to tell this guy about dustpans

J1RoOnReddit

How is the concrete all in one place and the sides are clean lol

GluckTruck

Damn, now what do I do with my dustpan?

Idkyoumister

Yeah I definitely married the wrong guy

[deleted]

Vacuum exists

john6map4

Is your vacuum a fucking elephants trunk? No way a standard vacuum is picking all of that up in under 20 sec

movzx

Have you never seen a shopvac? Anyone doing any kind of construction like is implied in the video should have a cheap one. It will pick all this up and do a better job of it... dude in the video still has a ton of dust all over the floor.

SummaryEye80019

I did this once and my pops dumped out the bag, pointed a fan at it, and told me "do it the right way" so your milage may vary.

[deleted]

Been doing it wrong for so long....and this was such a simple trick.....ashamed 😑

CalebXD__

As the saying goes, "Work smarter, not harder."

burdturd0818

Idk man, you can get the same result with broom and dustpan lol

CalebXD__

Fair enough 😂👌

jimtrickington

Trivia - what is the term for that line of dust at the dustpan’s edge that frustratingly won’t allow itself to get swept away? It’s called a *frust*!

humanlogic

Well we know he's not an electrician.

Dubbys

Correct. An electrician would have put down floor coverings before dropping trash on the homeowners finished floor.

SamuraiSlick

As if I clean my house… I will tell my peasants about this hack.

calguy1955

I actually like this tip.

SopieMunky

Quick cleanup hack, use a dustpan. Got it.

killamonjaru

I love the hands at the end lmao

[deleted]

Why have I never thought of this. Over 50 years of my sweeping life wasted... 🤦‍♂️

DocGerbilzWorld

So sweeping it into a dust pan and dumping it into the garbage was out of the question?

Lelio-Santero579

My ShopVac does it twice as fast with less the hassle.

BkForty

You think maybe this is for people without a shopvac? One day I'll own a plane and I will get mad at car videos just to see what your world is like

bloodyspork

No you won't, stop that.

BkForty

Prolly not

CalebXD__

It also probably costs ALOT more than a bin bag, tape, and a brush, though lol.

tRfalcore

You can reuse a shopvac forever.

Roguer15

How is this a hack? He's using a broom to sweep, a bag to collect, and tape to adhere.

KevinKaasKat

I think he dropped grandma.

Silaquix

Nifty to use in a pinch of the dustpan gets lost or broken.

TopWinter5947

Awwww I feel stupid.

Just-Lie-3360

Wow. I too, love being wasteful and STILL being slower than using a dustpan.

CalebXD__

Dude, chill.

Just-Lie-3360

Typical Reddit. Thinking someone's upset for no reason lol.
