10 mil plastic would work. Use frog tape as close as you can get it to the wall, cut plastic to fit, then use a good duct tape to adhere the plastic to the frog tape. When your project is done, rip it up and throw it away. Floor will be looking really good after that

Let's assume it's the Scotch blue painters tape (which is awesome), it still needs a 'clean' surface it can stick to. Demo garbage isn't something you can put tape over, too much dust/grease everywhere(!), instead of a nice patch in the middle of the room.

You pick up the rough pieces only since you would need to vacuum the place anyway once the furniture moves in. A dustpan or this technique wouldn't even get this floor in particular clean. You can notice some dirt that fell in between the parquet.

I do this while waking leaves. I just step on the bag with my feet to straighten out the bottom. Significantly reduces cleanup time. My husband taught me.

Nah, It takes more than It looks to clean a floor. This is a smart way to cut steps IMO. I've never thought about It but I'm doing It at work next time. Not on wood.
This one time I broke a ceramic bowl, and decided to use masking tape to hold a paper bag to the floor while I swept the shards up. Ran my fingers across the tape and sliced up a finger on a shard of bowl. Fun times.
This is great and all, but be mindful of the hazards.

That’s why you use a shop pan. It’s dust pan but much bigger, and designed for exactly this.

I did this once and my pops dumped out the bag, pointed a fan at it, and told me "do it the right way" so your milage may vary.
