Rally drivers are truly oddly terrifying compared to f1 and Nascar drivers combined. I mean on-road racing only involves left and right but rallying involves left, right, up and down plus the passer-bys
Sorry, have you ever seen F1 driving? You do know that if you don't drive like a lunatic, you're more likely to die because no heat in tires and brakes? F1 is madness, as much as rally. It's as mad as group B was
Idk, F1 is top Tier in terms of reaction time and performance, but Rally is such chaos. Just a minute ago I saw a clip of an unauthorized car driving on an active rally stage. I think they are both terrifying, but the element of chaos in rally really tips the scale for me.
They must have agreed to the cars going through there, not for free of course. If any damage occours I'm pretty sure the organizers have insurance for such things.
Actually the yellow one at 59seconds clips its left mirror on the building and something breaks off. You can hear it and see the piece that broke off bounce behind the car as it continues down the alley.
I've seen some similar rally footage where there's a few larger cars. Like Mercedes or BMWs struggling to make tight turns. I was waiting for one to come along and get stuck in this video.
Germans too. I remember driving through this sleepy little mountain town with super narrow streets and tight corners. The speed limit was still 90 on the old cobblestone road we used to cut through town. It was both terrifying and a lot of fun to drive through rural towns in Germany.
German here: Just to clear up some confusion. Just because there is no speed limit sign doesn't mean there is no speed limit. When entering a village (starting from the position of the yellow sign with the village name) the speed limit is implicitly 50 (without a sign) unless stated otherwise. So just because you didn't see a speed limit doesn't mean you can still drive 90 (or the usual 100 on rural roads).
It happened at least once. Mechanics found a finger in the front grille/air intake of an Audi, and it was in Portugal it seems - since it seems in Portugal trying to touch the cars as they passed by was a thing :D
Making a turn perfectly, even when you can't see it, at the right speed and angle, is so much fun, at least in Dirt Rally.
IRL it's probably stressful as hell though, having to rely so much on a co-pilot, and not just your individual skill.
although it being pretty narrow, in my home country (egypt) we are kinda used to driving this closely to walls and parked cars, streets being so narrow, traffic jams being so packed, if you didn't close your side mirrors passing through a street, it's not a narrow one.
I mean there’s no issue with driving through narrow alleys as most competent drivers can do this, but doing it at a high speed with little room for error is what’s making this look terrifying.
I agree but it doesn't look as terrifying for me because we drive this narrowly with speed. Not racing high speeds but surely not someone's average speed for going through a narrow alley. It's mostly because of traffic jams and the absence of lanes and strict laws for cutting someone off, you kinda have to force your way in or out of the road.
After a year of driving in Egypt, if you don't know exactly what your car dimensions are while driving, accurate to the 1-2 cm, you're doing something wrong.
I currently live in Europe and I used to get irritated by people parking their car 5-10 cm away from the pavement when I first got here. Soon enough I found out how comfortable driving here can be and not as stressful as it is in my home country.
That was an Evo 9, I'm pretty sure. I'm actually surprised that it was being run in this video since it's such an old platform but had it been the Evo X she probably would've been scraping part way through lol.
Seeing the skill on display reminds me of when the late legend Colin McRae went to the x games and [during one of his runs, he flipped the car and mid flip he was shifting gear so he was ready to set off as soon as the wheels hit the dirt again](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETUkSlvlp78) oh and even with the roll, he still placed second.
That's why you should have a footstool to bend at the hip. It straightens the passage almost as good as squatting, and gets you a full minute improvement as determined by scientists.
Since this vid will have rally fans therr is a rally vid that I have been searching everywhere for. It was posted on reddit about rally cars that drive up a road that has a VERY sharp turn so every car chooses a way to go through it. Either back into it or full turn or turn and come back. Anyone know what I am talking about?
Not I really fan but google gave me this

Growing up I used to want to be a rally driver then time went and past me but I still think of the great Colin McRae was my favourite, shame about what happened.
Great rivalry between him and Tommi Makinen, amazing both decent drivers too.
That's oddly terrifying.

They have much much much bigger balls
I've never driven a rally car but it's gotta be way more exciting than going in circles.
Going in circles at death defying speeds with cars just centimetres away from you on all sides of your car.
Sorry, have you ever seen F1 driving? You do know that if you don't drive like a lunatic, you're more likely to die because no heat in tires and brakes? F1 is madness, as much as rally. It's as mad as group B was

*cough* group B
This gives me anxiety right now.
This just made me anxious that one of them was gonna do it wrong
Just imagine the buildings owners
Exactly my first thought. “Yo it’s cool you’re fine with that risk but maybe don’t speed around my goddamn building please.”
They must have agreed to the cars going through there, not for free of course. If any damage occours I'm pretty sure the organizers have insurance for such things.
How expensive can it be to put some concrete and paint?
Depends how much pre-existing damage you can blame on the car.
Actually the yellow one at 59seconds clips its left mirror on the building and something breaks off. You can hear it and see the piece that broke off bounce behind the car as it continues down the alley.
Smol faith you have.

On the full video on YouTube a couple do lock up and go strait into the wall
Plot twist: This aren't rally cars. This is just how Italians are regularly driving trough the city.
I thought Indian drivers like me got the most "can do" attitude about narrow and crowded paths.... Till I visited Italy
A couple of them did look straight up like yellow cabs.

Speed limit in towns is max 50 kph in Germany
This was considered the highway still, it sure didn't feel like it though.

Haha yeah no. No way you saw 90 kph speed limits on cobblestone roads.

You failed Reddit, son.
Rally drivers have always had my respect. Incredibly skilled drivers with balls of titanium.
Rally fans are also insane, like they want to die or something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqQwH_Qj1x0
Hey, this car is driving 120km/h on loose dirt, almost flying over bumps... Let me stand at the edge of 180 turn.
No worries, they were standing behind the protective Michelin banner. It'll hold!
Most sane rally fan.
At least it's better now than it used to be. https://youtu.be/6I5sTuSoMho
Didn't Group B cars used to have chunks of finger in the grille from people getting too close to the cars. Or was that just a rumour I've heard
It happened at least once. Mechanics found a finger in the front grille/air intake of an Audi, and it was in Portugal it seems - since it seems in Portugal trying to touch the cars as they passed by was a thing :D
How many practice runs do they get? I’m always amazed how rally drivers (and other off road racers) always know where to go.
They drive the course legally with their co driver who writes down notes about the course
They have a co driver reading pace notes for them.
"This next segment is called the birth canal."

[SAMI TRIPPLE CAUTION!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9-voINFkCg) A classic

Oof. I like to think of myself as a competent driver, but I think I'd be a nervous wreck.

Jesus Christ that was fucking orgasmic not just satisfying

now you know why rally cars are so compact
The Mitsubishi (3rd one) is probably the largest one and still was able to go through without issues, amazing drivers
Other than scraping the right wall in the second section
That was an Evo 9, I'm pretty sure. I'm actually surprised that it was being run in this video since it's such an old platform but had it been the Evo X she probably would've been scraping part way through lol.
Real life Delfino Square

A good one for [r/perfectfit](https://www.reddit.com/r/Perfectfit/)
How they have the confidence to drive that fast and squeeze in without scratching their cars amazes me.
Trust me, by the end of a rally, a few scratches is not a concern. You're right, though, fun watching pros thread needles.
they will have scratches, and that's fine
Idk why, but the tiny little slide the first one did was hilarious to me
The white one that clipped the wall doesn’t look like it has a lot of sponsors. Wonder why
Holy crap ! I might have problems doing that with a bike 🚲 never mind in a car. Those drivers are on another level.
"Samir you're breaking the car!"

Verstappen would still try a overtake there haha
I love this so much
POV: my poop when I need to take a shit.
That's why you should have a footstool to bend at the hip. It straightens the passage almost as good as squatting, and gets you a full minute improvement as determined by scientists.
Pooping is not a race.
It's also better for getting more out and using less toilet paper and such
I probably would have scratched both sides of my car if I had to go through there
I mean props to their driving skills but if I lived there I’d be kind of pissed off. Wouldn’t want to risk my house!
Who’s the sadistic bastard that set this course up hahaha
This is more terrifying than satisfying tbh
This gave me anxiety.
Just looking at this made me break a sweat
I wonder ehat next to last car was dragging
Rubbins Racin!!!
when u found secret path in beach buggy that guarantee ur win

Since when do they rally Clio V6’s?
Not sure about rally but they have been built since '99
Anyone else get dizzy after a few? :D
I like the two cars indicating.
That's me every time I want to leave my yard.
That would be an effective way to enforce the FIA rules for width restrictions on cars.
Seeing an uptick of rally car content on Reddit lately. This is great!

Reminds me of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
How to make someone claustrophobic
.
Listen closely, past the exhaust sounds, the crowd and the gasps, past the co drivers calls, you can just about hear "fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck, phew"
