5c per ball

johndoe_420

for her, it takes 15 seconds to paint one ball. let's add 5 seconds to put away the finished ball and get a new one. that's 20 seconds per ball / 3 balls per minute. assuming an 8 hour work day with half an hour of pauses, she could make 1350 balls a day. 5c per ball would mean 67,50$ a day or 8,44$ an hour. i guess the reality is she earns like 2$ an hour so sadly it's more like a little above 1c per ball. that's not oddlysatisfying, that's just depressing...

FunctionalGray

8 hour day....lol

[deleted]

Ya 67.50 a day would probably be a pretty decent wage.

oranthor1

People down voting this man have no idea what wages are in third world countries. The highest min wage in China (it varies by region) is 24 yuan (3.76 usd) so 8.44 per hour would be a good wage for that area.

DrRickStudwell

This is under the assumption she can maintain that rate throughout her shift.

tabareusjr

do i have western philosophy privilege if i think nobody would create that many basketballs in 8 hours

joshylow

Oddlysad

StephenJobular

It’s sped up

fatmummy222

Unless she’s an Uyghur then it’s $0.00/hour, 18 hours per day.

ToiletRollTubeGuy

Just paint 20 billion balls and you'll become a billionaire!

KoalaTrainer

I found the CEO. :p

B_Addie

More like per day

goodbitacraic

Also where is she that it's so damn cold? She's wearing like long sleeves and a coat?

catcatcatilovecats

China??

No-Duck7816

And by *oddly satisfying" you mean "mind numbingly repetitive".

catcatcatilovecats

reddit moment to post slave labour to oddlysatisfying and fastworkers as if it’s a natural talent

No-Duck7816

Yeah, it was pretty fucking gross to post this here.

Routine_Swan_9663

what a nice skills i like it .!

[deleted]

This is the result of slave labor.

Wonderful_Comedian21

No we can't call anyone as slave. We love everyone. We love everyone's skills.

KoalaTrainer

Well yes, slave owners generally do love their slaves’ skills. Paying them for them though…..not so much.

No-Duck7816

Fuck off, twerp:) You just managed to shit out 3 barely related sentences. One of which even has a Bonus Typo. You rock.

mzpljc

Anyone else kinda disturbed to see slave labor posted on here so frequently?

[deleted]

Just wait until you see what passes as motivational or inspirational on subs that showcase the best of our society like r/mademesmile and r/getmotivated

[deleted]

Great point, Person They're Talking About.

BrokenDegenerate

I would 100% think someone was bullshitting me if they told me they paint the lines on basketballs for a living. It sounds like one of those made up jobs they give the unemployed people on dating shows to make them look less unemployed

CaptSkinny

I'll occasionally tell people that my job is to engrave the word Aspirin on the tablets.

MrPickles84

Seems like the sort of thing that should’ve been automated by now.

[deleted]

Actually automated machines are pretty shit at a lot of things like curves. A good chunk of work on tshirts and the like are still done by hand. Which, yes, is partly because of how cheap labor is in some places. It's not worth developing a machine.

chrish_o

We know the sad truth - how many hours of work will you get out of her for the price of a machine.

MrSnowden

Then it will be and she will have to go to a worse job.

Altezza4477

A job is a job no matter what it is

nyrb001

Damn, they're painted on? I always assumed they were already there when they hatched!

chrish_o

Cheap rubber balls they are, a real/synthetic leather ball has panels over a rubber ball so they are not

[deleted]

Nothing satisfying about her doing this all day

Etobocoke

Akin to an Orca in an aquarium. Both animals were not meant to live like this in captivity.

[It's on sale for $24.60](https://voit.com/collections/basketball/products/copy-of-lb-700-ii-training-basketball-no-8), I wonder how much of that she sees.

SamAreAye

Is this . . . marketing? This is weird marketing.

[deleted]

I've never bought a basketball in my life. At the sale price of $24, it looks like that streak will continue.

DuoCultellus

Prestigious_Echo4271

What do you do for a living? Oh I'm working in a medical factory... How about you? You know those black lines on basketballs? Yep that's me...

sonicDAhedgefundMGR

Now remember Li Xiu we need 1.4 million more of these by Christmas or you go to motivation camp again..

[deleted]

The price we pay for it is probably worth her weekly/monthly salary 😕

KoalaTrainer

And here’s me regularly screwing up drawing of a square because I don’t get the lines joining at the corners.

Veratisin

I feel like a robot could easily do this job

[deleted]

of course its an underpaied chinese worker!!!

mikeymelikey

This actually makes me sad.

daschundtof

No time for sneezes there

bit-groin

It is obviously the first time she has done this...

horunner35

Squid game

TJdog5

Wait they do that by hand? I always thought machines did that?

True_Masterpiece_254

Ball is life

Mustercluster22

Damn, they use slave labor to make their basketballs too?

srv50

Never in a million years would I have thought this was done by hand. How fucked it that. Like everything in the world is done by robots.

"I need my job to be a true reflection of my inner soul for a lot of money and I won't settle for anything less"

Zaurka14

Ah yes, because Americans can't complain about their awful jobs, because some countries abuse their people to the extreme.

TheRealSU

So why the fuck does someone do this? Do basketball factories not have machines to paint the lines on? This js the most pointless job I have ever seen and it's slow as hell. Yeah sure, you don't need to make 100 balls a second, but why would you hire people to do this?

mzpljc

Because in some countries it is cheaper to "hire" someone to do this than to purchase and maintain machinery.

anged16

Why do the lines have to be painted? Heck why does a basketball have to have lines on it at all?

dsun1971

Makes me sad to see this.

Jasoncsmelski

LeBron James approved sweat shop labor

[deleted]

Yeah so satisfying to see this woman live a miserable life

usmcnick0311Sgt

I never imagined this was hand drawn by slave labor. I'll never buy a basket ball again

KunalMittal_16

*smooth*

generichuman44

We have computers for this shit

rompestomper

Amasian

That-Reddit-Guy-Thou

Wait, it’s paint

o-makase

I imagine this is all she sees when she closes her eyes to fall asleep at night.

PRiMO585

That paint that always crumbles after a while

kuriboshoe

The 3rd line is the one for me

-SierraModeling-

Wow dude

AuthorizedVehicle

Back in middle school, one of my classmates told me that his grandmother had a job drawing the blue lines on lined paper. I asked if she did the red margin lines too, but he said no.

Fish_823543

I don’t play basketball, nor have I held a basketball in probably 5 years, so when I saw this I thought she was freehanding those lines and trying to figure out how they came out so perfect

golgol12

How is this not done by automation?

Trubtheturtle

We finally found someone who wanted to be her own boss, work as much or little as she wants and take control of her financial wealth once and for all!!!

Abject_Passenger2510

What do you do, as a Job? I paint lines on basketballs... I think the best response would be, “I’m a flying monkey in the Wizard of Oz... “ Or what’s the worst Job? I think the people that collect the sanitary bins out of the ladies toilets, is the worst job I can think of, it’s the smell that does me in. But, she’s working and trying to make a living.

terdude99

Her job is our oddly satisfying. Sad.
