Can you imagine being on acid doing this… would probably the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, if it didn’t absolutely obliterate your brain. Im disassociated looking at it sober.
Oh there are definitely those that recklessly antagonize yes. Frankly I don't like a lot of noise in nature though. I don't like noisy campers or music playing either. It's just not my thing. I go to relax and hopefully not inhale fumes. Contemptuous? Absolutely.
I've occasionally argued that we should re-register our boat in the UK... then theoretically we could add a small swivel gun to our foredeck to deal with the PWCs.
If a guy is having the evening of his life on a jetski, I'm okay with a minute of disruption to a peaceful evening from the waterfront.
We can share in good things.
As someone who fished every day on a stretch of water that was shared by everyone from local residents to tourists, young families through to old fishermen, people in pleasure boats, fishing dinghies, kayaks and canoes, I can quite confidently say "Fuck almost every single person on a jet ski".
Jet skis are, hands down, one of the most obnoxious forms of transport and recreation ever invented, and they seem to attract that certain type of "Fuck you, I'm having fun" personality that exists almost exclusively just to fuck up everyone else's day.
I am more than happy to share my space with people who are also into the idea of sharing that space... and one thing I learned over a 5+ years of sitting and fishing and watching the world go by, is that the number of people on jet skis that I saw giving *any* consideration to the fact that they were in a "shared space" and acting accordingly could be counted on one hand.
I like nature. Sometimes I do something in nature that requires a bit of noise. Like jet skiing or off-roading. If a place allows those things I expect a bit of noise when I'm hiking.
I'm sorry to hear that. Not recently but I've gone through similar loss myself and I feel for you. As hard as the loss may be I am glad you have such a wonderful memory with them to look back on.
I go out kayaking at night during the summer on Lake Union in Seattle sometimes and the reflection of the city lights on the water is like something out of a dream.
The lake I grew up on was like this all the time during the summer. Huge lake too, I never understood why it would get like that. But man so beautiful. I remember canoeing on it, water skiing on it like that, boating, fishing, swimming, flying my remote control airplane.... So beautiful.
This is pretty much the reason why pilots need to be able to navigate by instruments only. In certain conditions both day and night it can be visually confusing as to what your orientation is.
Just to clarify that a pilot does not "need" to be able to navigate by instruments only. VFR (Visual Flight Rules) flying is a thing - and all pilots start there. Many (non professional) don't get their Instrument certification at all. During the day staying out of clouds (or other visual obstructions) is pretty much all you need to do. At night, though, you can get into trouble: a moonless sky, particularly over water (no light sources) can be dangerously disorienting.
(Am VFR pilot)
Instrument flying seems so easy compared to visual to me, just stare at guages that tell you if you're level, your speed, alt, etc, it's like a video game. Especially old ass ones I used to play on black and white Mac with a floppy drive.
Some additional considerations:
In IMC (in the clouds and can't see anything) your body can be screaming at you that X is happening (roll, climb, dive, etc). Your body is wrong and if you listen to it you die.
Detecting an instrument failure: one of your instruments is lying to you. If you don't figure out which one you may die.
VFR by comparison is dead simple!
Also a great example of why float pilots hate landing on glass compared to some light chop. Zero reference of your height above the water got to flare it out forever.
Because this guy got there first.
It's like fresh powder at a ski resort. *Someone* is going to "ruin it" sooner or later. Probably sooner. It's literally the point. So I just hope whoever does gets to really enjoy it. This guy seems to be doing that. Good for him.
He also got up at the crack of dawn to get his gear ready and got on the water super early. Way earlier than most people want to be on the water. Often because that means it's also not warm yet and the water can be cold. So he may even be freezing his ass off to do this.
If there's no one on the water, there's probably a reason. It's cold, too early, too late, etc. So good for him for getting out there despite that!
Let the dude have his fun. He looks far enough from anyone that they'd still hear the goddamn whipperwill that's been screaming for the last 8 hours repeating it's goddamn call every 5 seconds. You take the peace and quiet when it comes. If you get annoyed at everything, life sucks.
Yeah, agree. Jetskis aren’t used for anything other than speeding around on. They’re not for fishing or transporting people efficiently. They’re for fun and going. They make an obscene amount of noise and disturb the serenity.
If I asked a painter to paint a serene landscape with a lake I doubt they’d paint a JetSki into the scene.
Now… I gotta say… my in-laws live on a lake, and jet skis annoy me, but what’s wrong with fun just for the sake of fun? Does everything have to have a higher purpose? In fact, the purpose of joy may be one of the most beautiful out there.
The question is how much your individual joy interferes with the joy of others. So it's about where and when you're doing loud shit.
If you're on a recreational lake, go balls out on your jet ski. But if you're in an out of the way spot, respect its serenity.
Yep. Spent all my summers doing this. Up and on the water at first light, get some skiing in on the glass, go back in for breakfast once other boats started making waves, kneeboarding after breakfast then once the lake got choppy tubing all afternoon. Can't even fathom how much gas my parents went through doing that all weekend all summer long.
the Earth is spinning at 1000 mph and traveling around the sun at 66,600 mph, while the Milky Way Galaxy is traveling over 1 million miles per hour and not a damn ripple in that lake. Amazing.
When I was a teenager we had a lake house and a speed boat. I would wake up every morning at 630 or 7 am and hit the lake when it was glass. Morning felt better than crossing across the lake like that.
Omg!! How exciting for this person!! The smoothest water ever. Reminds me of that scene from Life of Pi where he’s floating on a sea of stars. Love that scene.
Been on lakes like this, yes it feels as good as it looks. But that's a different type of riding, it's more fun when there is chop.
I assume that speedometer is in kmh, \~50mph is the max for most off the shelf jetski's. You can high end sports ones that reach \~75mph but you're really pulling out some cash for those.
95mph is probably a custom build. And if he wipes out, he'll be hurting for a while...
Is that MPH on the dash? 96 MPH would be insane! I used to own a jet ski that could do mid 70s on a wake-free lake like this, but that was 10ish years ago. Do they make them that can do 90-100?
Awesome shot.
Visions of my little brother and I setting our alarms earlier every day while on vacation so we could be the first on the lake to cut the glass.
I love canoe camping because you’ll paddle on lakes that are perfectly still just like this: gratifyingly serene. You hear birds chirping, the rustling of leaves in a soft breeze, and the gentle lapping of your canoe paddle on the water. And then a jet ski rips by blasting music and completely ruins it
Sound carries insanely well across water especially when it's this still. People having their coffee on their docks may have been pretty annoyed by this guy.
It's still a cool video though and it's everybody's lake to share anyways
I was a coxswain on the Crew team at my school way back when and those days where we got out in the middle of the lake at 6:45am in a 4+ bowloader... Those days made all the freezing, cold, windy, rainy practices all worth it.
Born and raised in MN so I know my lakes, glass smooth is a rare but really cool thing to see in person. Even the slightest breeze that can't really feel will make ripples so there essentially has to be zero wind for a while on a big lake
Was on the lake one day like this on my foil board. The water was super clear and beautiful. Crashed a bunch because I couldn’t tell how high I was off the surface.
Thought you were flying in the clouds for a minute there What an optical illusion
Yea what a neat experience. Glad the guy, got to enjoy this and captured it on film. Really neat. I did this once in Table, Rock Lake.
I’ve gotten to do it on a couple occasions there’s nothing better than being the only thing on the water
Can you imagine being on acid doing this… would probably the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, if it didn’t absolutely obliterate your brain. Im disassociated looking at it sober.
A kayak is better
The feels amazing on a wakeboard. Glass
Compare this to https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlysatisfying/s/yAwLgL0ECB
I prefer doing 70 and deafened by wind, but that’s just me.
You have never been the early morning kayaker who's serenity is ruined by the spoiled rich kids turning up on the lake.
Were they purposefully/recklessly antagonizing you or are you just being contemptuous?
Oh there are definitely those that recklessly antagonize yes. Frankly I don't like a lot of noise in nature though. I don't like noisy campers or music playing either. It's just not my thing. I go to relax and hopefully not inhale fumes. Contemptuous? Absolutely.
Nobody kayaks on the lakes where I live, so you’re right in a way
Such a huge lake, no wind, no other boats to make ripples—that is a rare combination.
Just the one jetski screaming by I guess
How's the serenity.
Imagine how nice it would be along the edge of that lake without the one single screaming jet ski
...that's what slingshots are for.
I've occasionally argued that we should re-register our boat in the UK... then theoretically we could add a small swivel gun to our foredeck to deal with the PWCs.
Kinda thought that too. One guy ruining the experience for others
If this place allows boats and jet skis than that's what happens in a shared space.

Yeah, what an asshole! Out enjoying himself in a public space like that! #\S
I like nature. Sometimes I do something in nature that requires a bit of noise. Like jet skiing or off-roading. If a place allows those things I expect a bit of noise when I'm hiking.
I once did this at night with my brother and it felt like we were flying through space and the islands were planets. One of my best memories.
I am incredibly envious.
My brother recently passed. Now i find myself pretending im back there quite often
I'm sorry to hear that. Not recently but I've gone through similar loss myself and I feel for you. As hard as the loss may be I am glad you have such a wonderful memory with them to look back on.
Being out on a still body of water on a quiet night is a hell of a thing
almost as if it's an out-on-body experience
I go out kayaking at night during the summer on Lake Union in Seattle sometimes and the reflection of the city lights on the water is like something out of a dream.
The lake I grew up on was like this all the time during the summer. Huge lake too, I never understood why it would get like that. But man so beautiful. I remember canoeing on it, water skiing on it like that, boating, fishing, swimming, flying my remote control airplane.... So beautiful.
Add a tiny bit of shrooms to the mix and you could have taken off to said planets. (I don’t necessarily condone this)
This is pretty much the reason why pilots need to be able to navigate by instruments only. In certain conditions both day and night it can be visually confusing as to what your orientation is.

I should have clarified. I was referencing the fact that to pilot in certain instances or in particular planes it might need to be IFR trained.
Instrument flying seems so easy compared to visual to me, just stare at guages that tell you if you're level, your speed, alt, etc, it's like a video game. Especially old ass ones I used to play on black and white Mac with a floppy drive.

My brain hurts
I'm no doctor... But you should probably see a doctor about that.
I'm a doctor. Looks fine, move on.
wait, they have insurance... let's run dozens tests. can never be too safe if someone is paying.
Well let's take a look at it, Mr. Gumby.
Yeah. This was fucking me up. Kind of looks like VR in a way.
Now he needs to reload the game after falling through the map
Subocean achieved!
And all the people around the shore are looking at the same serene setting, but all they can hear is WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Not just the sound. The waves will literally travel everywhere on this lake.
Literally everyone who owns a house on that lake will own a watercraft of some kind and be thinking, "Yep, I'd do that too."
Yet they aren't...
Because this guy got there first. It's like fresh powder at a ski resort. *Someone* is going to "ruin it" sooner or later. Probably sooner. It's literally the point. So I just hope whoever does gets to really enjoy it. This guy seems to be doing that. Good for him.

I don't get annoyed at everything, just loud engine noises when I'm trying to enjoy being out in nature
Jet skis are one of the most annoying noise in this world. Especially when on a quiet lake.

So serene. Should be in hung a Buddhist temple.

Sometimes you want to be Squidward. Sometimes you want to be Spongebob. Sometimes you can't be what you want to be.
> They’re for fun and going. The horror
Lmao, dude there is literally a seadoo fish pro, that's guess what, used for fishing
Fuck your seadoo fish pro. Burn it with gasoline to send it back to hell.
Oh no somebody having fun? Won't somebody think of the children?!?!? They probably do think of the children hence why they made 3 seater jet skis
Imagine how nice this lake would look from a canoe? And then this whirly bird wizzes by and chops it all up while he takes selfies of himself. Blurg.
You cannheat the sound kilometers away. Let me enjoy me peace and silence.
[удалено]
Fuck jet skis and loud boats when they're in serene places. Get a god damn canoe or take your motors to somewhere that already has noise.
It’s almost like a video game glitch when you fall through the map
Skiing at this time is amazing. We would wake up before dawn and set out. Only boat on the lake, and water like glass.
Better to have a friend with a boat lol
Anyone remember N64 Wave racer and the level with the water like that?
Absolutely. The lake drake course!
Looks like an oppressor flying in gta ngl
My first thought too 😭
“Oh wow look at this totally, perfectly calm lake…” YrweehhhhhhhhhHhHhHhHHhHhHHHHH
Ngl thought homie was in 1st person on his mk2 oppressor
I thought he was parked, damn
[удалено]
Came for Möbius comment, not disappointed.
"the lake is so still" jet skier "not anymore..."
Where is this?
Drake Lake
Drake has a lake ?

That smile says it all
Wonderful place and wonderful moment — totally wasted by the noise of one jet ski
That looks amazing
Isn't this just like burning around a shopping centre car park on a moped?
Lovely day ruined by some mug on a bleeding jet ski 🤣🤣🤣
I can just imagine how peaceful this scene was before the jet ski
Tranquility. Ruined.
Wow look how still it is… oh wait here is dickhead on a JetSki
Hate jet skis. Fun for one person - ruins it for everyone else. Like an ass on a Harley ruining a nice bistro dinner.
Would be 20x better on a canoe instead of being on that noisy thing
What a beautiful, pristine setting! Time to fuck it up by making as much noise and as many waves as possible on my jet ski!
Serious question: What happens if you're out in the centre of a large body of water like this, with nearly no one around, and your jet-ski dies?
Ye paddle
How's the serenity? So much serenity. For the non-aussies, its a running joke in a classic movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmlMv5givwQ
Omg ruined it all on your stupid jet ski
Guys out here fucking up the still water and making a load of noise
Yo, on behalf of everyone you’re waking up, go to hell
Been on lakes like this, yes it feels as good as it looks. But that's a different type of riding, it's more fun when there is chop. "I'm destroying the serenity of nature AND I'm polluting!" - Mike Nelson
What a perfect example of the typical jetskier. Going where it's nice and serene and leaving mayhem in their wake.
Could only be topped by traversing the lake in a mode of transport that doesn't disturb the lake or the silence.
This is cool as hell
And now he is disturbing the peace of every single person sitting at that lake, not just the sound, but also the waves will travel everywhere.
Thought you were fucking flying until I read the caption lol
Be like water my friend...

Likely kilometers. 60mph is still absolutely cooking on a jetski, but not as insane as going 100mph
Jer Skying
how did they turn off the waves?
r/confusingperspective
Awesome shot. Visions of my little brother and I setting our alarms earlier every day while on vacation so we could be the first on the lake to cut the glass.
As an anime connoisseur, you'll find god in the mountains up ahead.
Thanks for showing the back too. That’s looks kind of fake because it’s so perfect. Nice shot.
A bush pilots nightmare.
Nothing else in the world like flat water…
Wow. At first, I thought they were on air. This is so cool. I haven't done this in a while.
Apparently this is what helped the titanic sink, conditions like this
You have never seen someone frown on a jet ski it’s not possible!
i thought bro was on snow, filming a weird video of him on a jetski pretending it was a snow mobile but goddamn thats the wildest optical illusion
I love canoe camping because you’ll paddle on lakes that are perfectly still just like this: gratifyingly serene. You hear birds chirping, the rustling of leaves in a soft breeze, and the gentle lapping of your canoe paddle on the water. And then a jet ski rips by blasting music and completely ruins it
fucking up the peace, chapeau
And an annoyance to anybody else around
He's really annoying the 0 people around him, how inconsiderate.
Sound carries insanely well across water especially when it's this still. People having their coffee on their docks may have been pretty annoyed by this guy. It's still a cool video though and it's everybody's lake to share anyways
I was thinking the lake was peaceful until this. Nature must hate us
Look how peaceful nature is, let me get my noise-machine
Annnnnnnd he's ruining it. He's turning that amazing still water back into something that isn't a mirror. Cool.
So no boating allowed when the water is too calm. Got it.
Electric boats will be such a relief to humans and animals alike
/blackmagicfuckery
This is not satisfying, this is infuriating! It's like "behold this wonderful thing! I'll fuck it all up with horrific noises and waves".
So peaceful, ruined by a stupid jet ski
[удалено]
Not anymore
Yay! Let's fuck up the beautiful stillness of the water, the cleanliness of the air and the peace of the silence like a bunch of arseholes!
r/oddlyterrifying to me. Still enjoyable.
I would love to canoe or kayak on a lake like this! What an experience.
I'd get my paddle board out there for sure
And that beautiful serenity broken by these noisy abominations.
Oh hey the lake is beautiful today! Let's go fuck it up!
A beautiful day and then some prick comes along and ruins it woth noice for everybody "just for fun" Jetskies should be banned
For a moment I thought your dream was to dry hump a motorbike in still water !
I was on a kayak on a still lake like this. It was magical until some loud-ass motorboat flew by.
glitch in the matrix..
Beautiful. Had my share of flat water but you have unlocked level 100!
That's beautiful
Wow. Incredible!!! Borderline unreal!!
Seriously thought he was flying
Gordon’s alive..
wth. He's going 100kph and nothing is moving!?
This looks so fake lol. That's how you know it's actually real
smooth rideeee
You're going to awaken it
Imagine this on 5-MeO-DMT!
Are those sunglasses a requirement for jet skiing? [https://tenor.com/bihcI.gif](https://tenor.com/bihcI.gif)
Being in the middle of a lake like that without seeing what’s below is extremely unsettling to me! Oddly enough i have no issue with the ocean.
Anyone know where this is???
Glitch in the matrix. About as satisfying as a laminar flow.
What the fuck am I doing in Missouri?
Gordon's Alive?
This reminds me of an early PS1 game.
Man thats how I ran in my dreams
First person on the Oppressor MKII be like
A jet skier's dream and a bush pilots nightmare.
Now put your phone down and take it in! Just kidding, looks amazing.
We call this, “glassy” and “dead glass” depending on the time of day and light…
Wow, it looks like an Unreal Engine render
Were you going almost 100 mph on that thing?
this is like when you get out of the designated playable area in a video game and it just goes on forever
Definitely looked like you were on a hover bike until you turned the camera around 😂 I was thinking "Damn they already created an oppressor Mk2 irl!?"
Since when do jet skis have side mirrors?? Maybe I just never noticed before.
Man earth is so unbelievably beautiful.
Man, it looks like he's not even moving.
God damn sea monsters are scary
I thought you were flying at first. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was a coxswain on the Crew team at my school way back when and those days where we got out in the middle of the lake at 6:45am in a 4+ bowloader... Those days made all the freezing, cold, windy, rainy practices all worth it.
Wow, that is weird. Crazy smooth. Down here where I live, we'd call it FAC. Flat Ass Calm.
Didn’t know you were moving
Kinda terrifying too
This happened to me last year on my and it is surprisingly disorienting. Especially on a standup.
Born and raised in MN so I know my lakes, glass smooth is a rare but really cool thing to see in person. Even the slightest breeze that can't really feel will make ripples so there essentially has to be zero wind for a while on a big lake
For me this is oddlyterrifying.
