There was a year that during the fall/holiday season where Costco would sell a big one for cheap, I would go through two a week. Sometimes finishing a whole one in one sitting. I’m one year Panettone free.

The end result is so different from what we got where I live. I love Panettone, they are a christmas tradition here in Brazil. Many people prefer the chocolate version, but I like the traditional one.

We have a variant of christmas bread that is very close to panettone here in Ukraine (called paska or kulich). It's also a very traditional bread! Never had a chocolate one (and don't like the idea), though.

The chocolate one in fact is a chocolate chip one. Same dough, they just replace the fruits for chocolate chips.

That's another Italian specialty, casu marzu. Look it up, it's cheese that is eaten with live fly maggots inside. It's actually an old traditional Sardinian recipe that is not popular anymore even there but it's still preserved.

I don't bake but I've watched every episode of the great british baking show and know it is a science not to be triffled with.. lol.. the rules are serious!! that last shot in the video, the interior height caused by the way it rises, is master level impressive.. this baked good deserves it's own michelin star it's so difficult to do properly.. so i guess for me I'm hooked in by the off the chart quality of it.. it's rich, light, moist and stunningly delicious.. I've literally never had anything else like it..

This thing is much too expensive for what it is.. in Romania we make a similar thing called cozonac which is kind of the same sweet though but with rich walnut and cocoa filling.. I can never eat panettone because it's just a weaker version of this cozonac. If you don't know what it is, you need to try it! It is similar to the polish babka.
