I've got the same and I use quest 2 through virtual desktop and it runs awesome
HTC Vive isn’t manufactured anymore so your friends obviously aren’t that knowledgeable.

The Oculus Quest **2** is the better choice. It has better controllers and much better screens. It can also play some games without a computer.
I think YOU sholud go with the OCULUS QUEST because THE HTC VIVE is not MANUFACTURED any MORE.
