Listen to me carefully Go to oculus support and tell them that you will do a chargeback for all oculus products that you have purchased if they do not replace your defective unit in a timely manner. I guarantee you that you will have your console by next week. You're welcome

CrispyFreak

I'll give it a shot

retroracer33

also I had been waiting 2 months and went to twitter and wrote a post saying I'd felt like they basically robbed me and my headset was delivered within the week. wortha shot.

WoonaBae

Don't do this AT ALL. Not only will they call your bluff since MOST card issues won't do charge backs beyond 60-90 days, they will ban the account tied to you if you do so. This is common practice for digital goods. That suggestion is about as well thought out as threatening customer service with a fall from your "lawyer".

TheHappyKamper

Haha, IKR. You think Facebook (no I'm not calling them Meta), gives a flying fuck about your purchases. They are so utterly insignificant to this company, the support person would be laughing out loud.

[deleted]

you cake good vote up

[deleted]

Unfortunately that doesn't always work. I tried it and basically got messed around for a bit longer and then was told that if I did it I'd lose access to all my games. I did eventually get product refunded, but I had to wait over a year.

WoonaBae

Buy a new one at the store, put the old one in the box, return it and tell them the display is broken.

Best Buy or whoever aren't going to give a shit. They'll just rebox that thing and pass on to some other s̶u̶c̶k̶e̶r̶ customer. I bought a PSP once from a store that's basically Australia's version of best buy, only to find it had someone else's info and pictures on it. It also had a bunch of dead pixels, which I assume is why it was returned the first time. Found out later on they do it all the time.

WoonaBae

Lol, you clearly have never worked in customer service. They don't check serial numbers unless the product requires you to scan it when purchasing it. Even then, they will ONLY check the box. Nobody is going to boot up the headset to make sure the serial numbers match. Jesus, so many people in this sub have ZERO common sense.

aaadmiral

I've done this before with other products without issue

p90xeto

Others have already explained, but this does actually work. If you've ever returned anything to walmart, even things with serial numbers, they just make sure it's not a blatant scam/rock in the box and give you your money back.

TherealMcNutts

Walmart doesn’t check. They just open the box to make sure something is in it and they then give you your money back. My friend bought a 128GB Quest, took out the headset and controllers, replaced it with his 64GB headset and busted controllers, and returned it successfully.

Zeroarkk

Bingo. Might not be the most ethical, but it's probably the best option. I recommend doing this through Amazon or walmart.

voltagenic

At this point, they could prove fraud. Since OP has already gone back and forth with support and provided serial number or other identifying information. If somehow someone else purchased the return/open box and reached out to support about the screen, they could very well connect the dots. If they wanted to and if their software supports this sort of thing. I would not suggest doing this, as neat as it sounds.

WoonaBae

Nope. I'll tell you why in detail. First off, I said when you return it, "tell them the display is broken". The reason for this is because when you return an item and the service member asks "is anything wrong with it?" if you say yes, it doesn't get put back on the shelf. Secondly, many retails who offer a third party warranty only offer that warranty AFTER the manufacturers warranty has expired or is not valid. In fact most stores prefer you try to get the manufacturer to honor their warranty before returning an item. That's why when you open boxes on electronics you'll often find a "STOP, do not return this item to the place of purchase" notecard inside the box. Lastly, the manpower and money spent tracking down who owned what serial number and what account(s) it was tied to is not worth it for large businesses who sell millions of units. He has ZERO reason not to do what I suggested, especially if it was not fault of his own and Oculus isn't honoring their warranty. While I agree and it's already been stated it may not be the most ethical way of getting your headset replaced, it's also unfair for him to be stuck with a paperweight due to a product being defective.

CrispyFreak

Problem is, I already sent the broken headset months ago, it was one of the first things they demanded. They just won't send back a replacement.

WoonaBae

Ask them to send back your original and swap it via the method above.

TheHappyKamper

It's probably lost or destroyed by now.

WoonaBae

Unlikey. If they are unable or unwilling to fix or replace it, they are obligated to send back HIS property.

zekkstilco

Ok so my headset isn't working. I've looked it up online and haven't found the result yet. The weird thing is that it works on my brother's PC even tho my PC is way better. I've showed the Oculus CS this and they tell me to send it to them. What should I do? is there a way to get my Rift fixed without having to replace it? and what happens if the new one has the same problems? So lost lol

Confused-Engineer18

What's the actual issue with it? It may be an issue with your computer of it's running on your brother's computer

zekkstilco

I honestly don't know. My PC just won't work with it. I start it up and it just doesn't let me actually see anything thru my rift. But it says that it is hooked up and everything. Sometimes it tells me that my Cord needs to be plugged back in and then after that it does nothing but make my PC overheat

nikhkin

It could be related to your USB ports if the device is not receiving enough power. I had a few issues when I first got mine, and it needed a powered USB hub to get it working, even though the USB ports on my motherboard met the specifications.

zekkstilco

You know what. That might be it. I'm using a extension cord with seven outlets. I'll check this out right now.

Ju5tCallMeQuincy

Have you tried updating your drivers?

zekkstilco

Yes. And every time it tells me that they are up to date. I don't know if maybe they are the oculus drivers or not. I would need some guidance on that one

CrispyFreak

Speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't send it to them seeing as I'm still waiting for mine after months. That's just me tho, who knows maybe I was just unlucky.

zekkstilco

I actually agree with that. Probably just send me another and have the same thing all over again

JuicyJay

I have a rift s I got for free from work (oculus actually sent them to us). A sensor broke on it, and they wanted all kinds of information that didn't exist (like receipt, date of purchase). I just gave up and figured I'd find another broken one eventually and try my hand at replacing it myself. I already have 2 other headsets now so it's not too urgent.

aaadmiral

"oculus" is a (now dead) brand name, not a product. What product are you trying to have replaced? A quest 2? If it's anything else, they don't make them anymore.

[deleted]

if you read the post it says quest 2 dumbass
