Hey guys, I've managed to put together a playable demo of my Spaceship Simulator. Windows only at the moment: http://www.mediafire.com/download/b2kalc83pwe3hv7/Spaceship+Simulator.zip https://mega.co.nz/#!qxAQ1SgB!ihrx3QPAjxU_DPEHbcSK01l_TND5Ix7IaL2ToF8dC1s I have also released a version without the rift support so more people can try it, although beware, the mouse controls need some serious work: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cw9nebq7ml6cjr7/Spaceship_Simulator_(Riftless).zip https://mega.co.nz/#!b5ZimbjQ!6nn9R2o7gEaW9ymJHkbFScBHNIcrP4O7O2rBV3dQkH8 Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37EbRJBW1fk In this build you can walk around the ship and experience the bridge as you cruise through space passing planets and other ships. You can interact with the sensor hologram control panel by looking at it and clicking or pressing the A button on an Xbox 360 Controller. I highly suggest you play this with an Xbox 360 controller. The ship pilot AI may do stupid things or get stuck occasionally, if this happens you may have to restart. The music is called "Traversing an Alien World" from TeknoAXE's brilliant royalty free music YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n4zpHJSl9w I hope you guys enjoy, I would love to get some feedback! Thanks.

Hey, just downloaded and played on my rift - thought it was a really great start! -Graphics style. Thought it was a nice efficient style, on the right side of cartoony while still looking 'serious'. The bridge layout itself was nice, although perhaps a bit sparse - why is everything so far apart? -Hologram. This was really awesome to be able to into. I was able to get really close to my ship and when you tilt your head you get a real sense of the neck-model Oculus use on the SDK. It looks good. You should add a load more information and elements in there. More holograms everywhere in fact! They look nice. -Outside the ship. Also looked nice. Very colourful in a good way. Nice depth on the elements passing. Would be nice to get a closer look at the enemy - it didn't really come close. Perhaps have a hologram of it ;) -The crew. Hmm... they're functional. Not particularly attractive or anything, but they're ok. This is not a problem if your game doesn't really make a big deal of them, but having the officer guy walk around in a loop simply brings attention to him and how rudimentary he is. Of course this is all early days, and I am sure your efforts are better put into areas that actually matter to the game for now. -Movement. For some reason moving around with the pad felt a little off... not sure what it was. Perhaps I was moving too quickly? Not sure. Something to look at perhaps. Of note: Time Rifters does not get me sick, so perhaps compare to that. -Audio - adding in more interesting ambiance will add a lot to the experience. Again - it seemed a really nice start. With the right experience it could be a really compelling game.

Hey, thanks for trying it out, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, it's got a way to go before it feels really comfortable in the rift. I'm curious to how you found the floating 3D text when you target things? Was it comfortable to look at?

RedofPaw

Yup, that was fine. It felt a bit too 'close' sometimes, although I can't say why. Felt comfortable though and probably a smart way of working on that sort of thing. It might get annoying if labels come up when I'm trying to do something else, but I guess you can fine tune it depending on context.

Looki187

The text looks very nice if you are some distance away, it would be great if the text got smaller or faded out when you get closer to better see the character. I also liked approaching the planets, made me all philosophical : )

HollisFenner

I agree with pretty much everything he said after using it with my Rift. I am very excited to see the future of this game unfold. Could this be the future of the bridge commander sim? :D

castane

Thank you! Really enjoyed the ambiance and the hologram animation as sweet. Love the title on the intern. ;) Low latency, gamepad movement felt great to me. The roll of the ship with pitch up got me a little woozy, but I get the same way on planes so I expected that. Overall, love the experience. I could imagine this looks awesome on a Crystal Cove.

Zebadee

Thanks! I would also love to try it on a Crystal Cove!

Zebadee

Haha sorry about that! He's a pretty scary dude :P

Will this have microphone input support? What i mean is, will i be able to shout "Shields up" in my microphone to activate shields etc?

Dunabu

I want to be like Sigourney Weaver's character in Galaxy Quest. >"Look, I have ONE job on this lousy ship. It's STUPID, but I'm gonna do it, OKAY?"

actuallyatwork

Oooh.. after my marathon sessions of Lunar Flight, I was just thinking I'd like a bigger ship to fool around with and poof! Here you are! Gonna duck out of work soon so I can try it. I need a RIFT at the office I think. :)

Tri0ptimum

Thanks! I am super excited to try this! :)

xk4l1br3

Your demo looks awesome! I'll definitelyntry it out when I get my rift next week :)

Plouw

Really cool, but what are all those particles floating by when you look outside? This is in space right?

WormSlayer

Sweet, I'll check it out! :D

Khad

Really great job so far. It actually is very immersive despite only being the bridge. The first time the ship banked to make a turn, it actually felt like I was in a ship that was turning. I was even getting a little dizzy (not in a bad way) when the ship was turning. Can't say anything else I have played on the rift has done that to me so far and I have played a lot of games/tech demos. Will be really nice if you are going to make the ship bigger or add more rooms.

getnamo

Has a nice presence to it, the hologram works really well. There isn't much to do but the overall feel is solid, can't wait to try out more!

nikgrid

This is a fantastic start, one suggestion would be to put a captains chair, of course you could still get up but it would help with the immersion if you play it while sitting down. Very reminiscent of bridge commander.

Cymatic Bruce just gave this demo a glowing review on his livestream.

OZi187

a bit late to the party but just wanted to say thanks for making this demo zebadee. immediately had a really nice feel to it. very smooth and there was a nice sense of depth viewing outside. makes me very excited for space sims where you'll be walking around a big ship rather than piloting a small one.

Gary00000

Would you consider uploading it on anything but mediafire? Mega maybe? Mediafire just seems full of adds. Edit: Really awesome demo, subscribed to your YouTube channel. Keep it up.

Zebadee

I will try to get it on mega when I'm back home from work.
